We're back on the albums again! Part Nine, 220-211. This week features The Magnetic Fields, Grace Jones, Fugazi and seven other artists to continue this massive undertaking. Hmm, who else could there be? ;) I did ev thing I could, but there was so much in this week! Both to listen to (our longest album so far!) and to talk about. Alas I purposely let go of Poetry Time again, but I always choose one as a part of the structure of the show and I still want to share (it's another untitled): _______________________________ HAVE A BUNCH OF FLOWERS DELIVERED TO THE PLACE WHERE UNEXPECTED HAPPINESS MOVED THROUGH YOU by Darby Hudson _______________________________ ****I also said I'd mention more of the songs that were noteworthy to me from a particular one of the albums, which you're already aware of if you're here looking for this. I'm not going to give the title or the artist so as not to ruin the surprise for those who may read the description in advance of listening to the album. No extra spoilers! Here's a few additional tracks from that one to consider: -Punk Love, really fun -Parades Go By sounds like a 70s classic ballad -Sweet-Lovin Man has one of my favorite instruments again, the flute! Have fun with it ;) - Oh it's a major endeavor, alright. I'm going to try to listen to at least 10 albums a week for the rest of the year! Yeah, I'm not joking. Media, art, and entertainment publication Paste Magazine came out with a list of the 300 best albums and we're going to go through them all! Well, I'm going to. And then we're going to talk about it! Great tracks, themes, history, info, related artists, cultural context, personal experiences- they're all going to play a part in these reviews. Totally stoked because I love music. (And a little intimidated! Because this is a lot to process) - If we keep up with an episode per week featuring 10 albums each, we'll just about finish by the end of 2024. We're doing this! Yay!! Thrilled you're along for the ride. I'll see you Monday, C

EPISODE 1617: In this second KEEN ON interview with Julian Barnes, the distinguished British writer, Andrew talks to Julian about growing up in England, his lifelong romance with Europe and that "golden" generation of British writers Julian Barnes was born in Leicester, England on January 19, 1946. He was educated at the City of London School from 1957 to 1964 and at Magdalen College, Oxford, from which he graduated in modern languages (with honours) in 1968. After graduation, he worked as a lexicographer for the Oxford English Dictionary supplement for three years. In 1977, Barnes began working as a reviewer and literary editor for the New Statesman and the New Review. From 1979 to 1986 he worked as a television critic, first for the New Statesman and then for the Observer. Barnes has received several awards and honours for his writing, including the 2011 Man Booker Prize for The Sense of an Ending. Three additional novels were shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize (Flaubert's Parrot 1984, England, England 1998, and Arthur & George 2005). Barnes's other awards include the Somerset Maugham Award (Metroland 1981), Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize (FP 1985); Prix Médicis (FP 1986); E. M. Forster Award (American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, 1986); Gutenberg Prize (1987); Grinzane Cavour Prize (Italy, 1988); and the Prix Femina (Talking It Over 1992). Barnes was made a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1988, Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1995 and Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2004. In 1993 he was awarded the Shakespeare Prize by the FVS Foundation and in 2004 won the Austrian State Prize for European Literature. In 2011 he was awarded the David Cohen Prize for Literature. Awarded biennially, the prize honours a lifetime's achievement in literature for a writer in the English language who is a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland. He received the Sunday Times Award for Literary Excellence in 2013 and the 2015 Zinklar Award at the first annual Blixen Ceremony in Copenhagen. In 2016, the American Academy of Arts & Letters elected Barnes as an honorary foreign member. Also in 2016, Barnes was selected as the second recipient of the Siegfried Lenz Prize for his outstanding contributions as a European narrator and essayist. On 25 January 2017, the French President appointed Julian Barnes to the rank of Officier in the Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur. The citation from the French Ambassador in London, Sylvie Bermann, reads: 'Through this award, France wants to recognize your immense talent and your contribution to raising the profile of French culture abroad, as well as your love of France.' He was awarded the 2021 Jerusalem Prize and the 2021 Yasnaya Polyana Prize, the latter for his book Nothing to Be Frightened Of. Also in 2021, he was awarded the Jean Bernard Prize, so named in memory of the great specialist in hematology who was a member of the French Academy and chaired the Academy of Medicine. Julian Barnes has written numerous novels, short stories, and essays. He has also translated a book by French author Alphonse Daudet and a collection of German cartoons by Volker Kriegel. His writing has earned him considerable respect as an author who deals with the themes of history, reality, truth and love. Barnes lives in London. In addition to presenting KEEN ON, he is the host of the long-running How To Fix Democracy show. Hate writing show notes? Me too. In this episode, I'm breaking down how I use Capsho to generate the show notes for Clipped. Capsho is an AI copywriting software for podcasters. To get started using it, simply upload your audio file. Then Capsho will get to work generating marketing copy for your podcast. Capsho's AI only takes 10 minutes to start pumping out content for an episode. Capsho's Outputs Episode Titles Show Notes Transcriptions Social Media Captions Email Marketing Copy Blog Posts LinkedIn Articles Episode Quotes YouTube Descriptions I mainly use Capsho to speed up my writing workflow and assist me in coming up with ideas for my show notes and episode titles. In addition, I also use Capsho's transcriptions, email marketing copy, and blog posts. Capsho Tips It's important to take the copy that's generated and add your secret sauce to it. This is the case with any AI copywriting software. Do not copy-paste what Capsho generates for you. Google knows the difference between AI-generated copy and human-written copy. It could harm your podcast and website ranking if you copy things verbatim. Plus it won't sound natural, and won't sound like you. People listen to your podcast because they like YOU. Keep it that way. Capsho is a tool. Take what it gives you and get to work personalizing it. Make edits, and put things in your own voice, vibe, and style. Additionally, check that the copy Capsho is generating is accurate. With a little practice, you can start using Capsho to accelerate and improve your podcast marketing machine. In This Episode, You Will Learn The Following 1. Discover how to turn your podcast episode into multiple pieces of written content with AI-powered copywriting tool, Capsho 2. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 14th of February 2023. This is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.“For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.” Titus 3:3“And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?” Matthew 7:3People who live in glass houses do not throw stones. We have got to have patience with those who are not of the faith. We have got to pray for them. We can't compromise - no, no, no. We keep the standard, we keep the faith, and no bending of the rules, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Do you know that some of Jesus' greatest champions of the faith were absolute reprobates, unprincipled persons, people who say, “anything goes.” Who am I talking about? Well, I am talking about the one the Lord said He is going to build his church upon, the one who is going to lead the church, Peter, the big fisherman. He was a blasphemer, he swore like a trooper. He never kept his word. He denied Jesus no less than three times and yet Jesus called him to head up the church. What about Paul, an accomplice to the murder of an innocent man who was simply telling people about Jesus, his Friend? His main mission in life was to get rid of Christians and yet Jesus used them both as giants of the faith. You know, Derek Prince was a Bible teacher but he wasn't always a Christian. He took a Bible with him to the desert in the Second World War to read so that he could prove that it was a lie, and he got saved through the Bible and became an incredible man of God. What about Nicky Cruz? Nicky Cruz was a gang leader in the ghettos of New York City until that skinny preacher by the name of David Wilkerson preached the Gospel to him and he got gloriously saved and has become one of God's main instruments in evangelism. Never write off anyone. Pray for those who don't know Jesus, pray for those who persecute you, and love them. There is a turning point and it will be sooner than you think. I was also one of those reprobates, let me tell you, and yet Jesus Christ saved me. He can do it for you too. Have a wonderful day,Goodbye.

Your podcast is your platform. But it shouldn't be your only platform. In this episode, Michael DeLon explains how podcasters can amplify their leadership position by creating a book without writing a word. You speak on your podcast and you should use the same process to create your book. As a thought leader, you need to stand out in the crowded podcasting space. Being an Amazon best-selling author of your own book is the fastest way to accomplish that. But doing it on your own takes a lot of time, effort, and know-how. Make the process as simple as possible by speaking your book, instead of writing it. It's the fastest, easiest, and most enjoyable way to become an author!More: https://PodPros.com/189

I review all the ways in which the Aumann Agreement Theorem can fail that I know of - including failures based on indexical information, computational-complexity obstacles, divergent-interpretations-of-evidence, Hansonian non-truth-seeking and more. While I try to tackle a wide variety of subjects with equal interest, it's easy to tell which subjects really excite me. Just look through the archives to see how many times I revisit a subject. I just came across these 2007 episodes and realized that I'd done a total of 6 episodes (3 guests doing 2 episodes each) on Jewish humor. I don't believe there are any more, but I still have a few more old cassette tapes to digitize and upload. So enjoy, why not? Joyce Antler is our guest. She authored the book "You Never Call You Never Write." And keep in mind that this isn't just a collection of jokes. Joyce takes a serious look at how Jewish women impacted American culture. But there are a few laughs along the way.
You know you want to write a book. But so do the many other people. What's the difference between those who become authors and those who never start actually writing a book?
This week we're talking about Bigfoot's super frosty kin that live high up in the mountains of Asia. And remember, Bumbles bounce!
In this week's episode, we interview New Yorker staff writer and principal contributor to the Q. & A. interview series Isaac Chotiner. We begin by discussing his challenging interviewing style, which has led to many notable and controversial moments. Seeking controversy himself, David asks why Isaac has seemingly interviewed every Yale Law School professor other than him. Isaac also describes the mission behind his interviews and why he thinks a Q&A format is best for bringing academic ideas to light. Beyond Isaac's own interviewing and writing styles, we talk about the state of journalism overall, including the role of public intellectuals and the effect of nationalized media coverage. Lastly, we get Isaac's takes on a variety of topics, including the lack of India coverage in American journalism, the media coverage on Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan, media coverage on the War on Terror, and SubStack! Referenced Readings: Isaac Chotiner, “LeBron James's Agent Is Transforming the Business of Basketball,” The New Yorker (June 7, 2021). Isaac Chotiner, “V.S. Naipaul on the Arab Spring, Authors He Loathe, and the Books He will Never Write,” The New Republic (Dec. 7, 2012). It can be tempting to cut corners and write your own will. Here are at least three reasons why that's a bad idea...
I don't know about you, but I really struggle with writing a book without a plan. With a plan I get clarity and when I can tick things off I can see progress. Every step of this process needs some thought and planning. Naturally, we need to think about how we like to work and how we do our best work. However, everyone I work with and every time I do this the best books are those that are planned.
