Breaking in our waves with a special two-hour round of genre-busting floor hoodoo, here comes Luxemburg-via-Germany's one and only Ogazón. Nimbly walking the tightrope between sensuous house folds and more rugged, up-for-the-jugular techno on a deep, dubby tip, Ogazón treats us to a hi-NRG vinyl workout flush with immersive, cinematic motion and proper low-slung club-oriented extrapolations. The result is a mix that swings the pendulum between sheer blazing functionality and an escapist mindset, sparking off the inextinguible will to go out and rave your night away from the daily hassle, and you can trust Ogazón for she certainly knows how to teleport dancers to a whole cozier, comely dimension in the twinkling of an eye. Merry Xmas to all!

Nimbly combining the tools of art and science, SETI Institute Artist in Residence Xin Liu expresses what it means to be human through a diverse body of work that includes frost-coated sculptures, a bubbling fountain of crude oil, and a performance in outer space. In a new body of sculptures exhibited at Pioneer Works in New York City, the artist considers her fears around having her eggs frozen, creating warped, skeletal, frost-covered sculptures that propose a human body transformed through a cryogenic process. Through art, Liu centers the human experience in the face of technologies and developments motivated by efficiency, productivity, and optimization. The Department of Homeland Security's top official is calling for DHS to quickly and “surgically” prioritize areas where the department can adopt artificial intelligence, as DHS rolls out new policies on the acquisition and use of AI, as well as facial recognition. DHS' new policies come as leading AI executives and members of Congress point to the need for regulations and other guardrails in the quickly progressing field of generative AI and related technologies. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas sets out new requirements in a policy statement, “Acquisition and Use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Technologies by DHS Components.” The memo was signed out Aug. 8 and released Thursday. The policy was required by the Fiscal 2023 National Defense Authorization Act. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Is the universe infinite or just really big? With this question, cosmologist Janna Levin announces the central theme of this book, which established her as one of the most direct, unorthodox, and creative voices in contemporary science. As Levin sets out to determine how big "really big" may be, she offers a rare intimate look at the daily life of an innovative physicist, complete with jet lag and the tensions between personal relationships and the extreme demands of scientific exploration. Nimbly explaining geometry, topology, chaos, and string theory, Levin shows how the pattern of hot and cold spots left over from the big bang may one day reveal the size of the cosmos. How the Universe Got Its Spots: Diary of a Finite Time in a Finite Space (Princeton UP, 2023) is a thrilling story of cosmology by one of its leading thinkers. Learn more about your ad choices. In her scintillating new book, The Beauty of the Houri: Heavenly Virgins, Feminine Ideals (Oxford UP, 2021), Nerina Rustomji presents a fascinating and multilayered intellectual and cultural history of the category of the “Houri” and the multiple ideological projects in which it has been inserted over time and space. Nimbly moving between a vast range of discursive theaters including Western Islamophobic representations of the Houri in the post 9/11 context, early modern and modern French and English Literature, premodern Muslim intellectual traditions, and popular preachers on the internet, Rustomji shows the complexity of this category and its unavailability for a canonical definition. The Beauty of the Houri is intellectual history at its best that combines philological rigor with astute theoretical reflection. And all this Rustomji accomplishes in prose the delightfulness of which competes fiercely with its lucidity. In her phenomenal new book God's Property: Islam, Charity, and the Modern State (U California Press, 2021), Nada Moumtaz charts the historical continuities and disjunctures as well contemporary paradoxes shadowing the intellectual and sociological career of waqf or Islamic charity/endowment in modern Lebanon. Nimbly moving between layered textual analysis, riveting ethnography, and formidable historical inquiry, Moumtaz demonstrates the secularization and sectarianization of waqf in Lebanon premised on the attempted state separation between the spheres of the public/private and religion/economy. While exploring the workings of waqf historically, intellectually, and as part of everyday life with meticulous detail, Moumtaz constantly connects the details of her study to its broader argument centered on critiquing the secular promise of separating religion and economy as distinct domains of life. This beautifully written book will be widely read and taught in multiple disciplines including anthropology, Religion, Islamic Studies, and History. Today, I'm talking with , the CEO at where he and his team help SaaS businesses increase revenue through Revenue Operations, or RevOps. I'll be honest, before preparing for this interview, I wasn't so sure what RevOps actually was. Even as I dug into it, it seemed like something only megacorps needed to care about. After talking with Jason, I've completely changed my mind on this. While you probably don't need a dedicated RevOps team in the early days of your startup, you do need to be thinking about and acting on the principles driving this movement. In our chat today, Jason gets rid of the jargon to explain what RevOps actually means and how to implement these concepts in an early-stage startup.

In her fascinating and path paving new book, Indian Muslim Minorities and the 1857 Rebellion: Religion, Rebels and Jihad (I. B. Tauris, 2017), Ilyse Morgenstein Fuerst, Assistant Professor of Religion at the University of Vermont reorients our understanding of the 1857 rebellion in India, while offering a nuanced theorization of religion, religious identity, and questions of violence. The title of this book announces the key terms and conceptual pillars that sustain it throughout: religion, rebels, and jihad. The brilliance of this book lies in the way it raises and addresses a number of critical questions regarding memory, formations of religious identity, and conceptions of religion as a category through the close and energetic reading of a single event. This book is intellectual history at its fiercest. Nimbly written, it will also make an excellent text for undergraduate and graduate seminars.
