“In the same way that Jerusalem is the navel of the world, is Nurnberg the navel of Germany” is how Matthäus Dresser described the city in 1581. The astronomer Johannes Regiomontanus moved to Nurnberg in 1471 because there" ...one can easily associate with learned men wherever they live. Because of the cosmopolitanism of its merchants, this place is regarded as the center of Europe”. How did this city grow within 200 years from an imperial castle far from the main transport links, without a harbour and on famously poor soil into one of the three most important urban centres in Germany whose merchants were well regarded in all corners of the world, whose printers published the works of Europe's leading intellectuals, whose artists were and remain of global renown and whose engineers produced breakthrough after breakthrough.Let's find outThe music for the show is Flute Sonata in E-flat major, H.545 by Carl Phillip Emmanuel Bach (or some claim it as BWV 1031 Johann Sebastian Bach) performed and arranged by Michel Rondeau under Common Creative Licence 3.0.As always:Homepage with maps, photos, transcripts and blog: www.historyofthegermans.comFacebook: @HOTGPod Twitter: @germanshistoryInstagram: history_of_the_germansReddit: u/historyofthegermansPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/HistoryofthegermansTo make it easier for you to share the podcast, I have created separate playlists for some of the seasons that are set up as individual podcasts. they have the exact same episodes as in the History of the Germans, but they may be a helpful device for those who want to concentrate on only one season. In the book, Responding to the Mormon Missionary Message, Paul addresses LDS Missionary Lesson 3 called, The Gospel of Jesus Christ, from the missionary manual Preach My Gospel. For LDS, eternal life includes doing: faith, repentance, water baptism, the gift of the Holy Ghost given by LDS priesthood, and various laws kept and temple ordinances performed as well as enduring to the end to try to reach the highest heaven (Celestial Kingdom). There is no assurance of eternal life in this life in the LDS gospel. Paul brings up some great questions. If LDS argue today their salvation is by grace, then what is the function of the LDS temple? Can anyone go in or do you have to do something to qualify? The Reformation came about when the Catholic Church offered the paying of indulgences for special privileges. Since tithing is required to enter an LDS temple where ordinances are required to strive to reach the highest LDS heaven, isn't this practice similar to what the reformers fought against? Staircases and ladders? Another difference between the LDS gospel and the gospel of the Bible is that the LDS Holy Ghost leaves someone when they sin, although his role is supposed to give one the strength to obey the commandments. But, how can a Latter-day Saint have the help of the Holy Ghost to strive to reach the Celestial Kingdom if he abandons them when they sin? Isn't that when one needs him the most? Paul discusses the LDS Holy Ghost's lack of omnipresence in Episode 46 of the Outer Brightness Podcast. His chapter in the book gives a number of dos and don'ts for witnessing to missionaries and offers scriptures they may use to teach the LDS gospel.

After his mission, Paul poured into books and journals like the Journal of Book of Mormon Studies that supposedly demonstrated evidence for the Book of Mormon. He found there wasn't really any. Looking online for a good LDS spouse, he met Angela, a new convert from the Cincinnati area. Paul soon moved to the Cincinnati area, found work, and married her in the temple. While working in health insurance, Paul tried to convert Charlotte to the LDS Church. She later returned the Book of Mormon to him and gave him a stack of papers her pastor had given her with reasons to question the LDS faith. Paul read them, began researching the various topics, and his “shelf broke.” Now not sure he even believed in God, Paul decided to simply focus on Christ but remain LDS. While driving, he began to listen to Christian radio hosts such as J. Vernon McGee, David Jeremiah, and Chip Ingram and tried to reconcile their teachings with Mormonism. He says his wonderful Christian father-in-law patiently “poured into him." Then, Paul secretly read In Sacred Loneliness about the plural wives of Joseph Smith. Angela read it as well, her shelf broke, and she longed to return to the grace-filled relationship she had known with Jesus in the evangelical church before she joined the LDS. Paul was ready. His first experience worshipping in an evangelical church made the differences between LDS and traditional Christianity palpable. Jesus was clearly the focus; Joseph Smith was not part of it. Paul was baptized unto Jesus in August of 2011 and then baptized his own son. Find him as co-host on the Outer Darkness Podcast.

Paul Nurnberg returned from his LDS mission (1997-1999) to Hungary with questions. Several Christians he met on his mission showed him that what he preached was a system of works, not compatible with saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone as the New Testament taught. Ephesians 2:8-9 especially impacted Paul and he recognized this was different than what he had always understood the gospel to be. Paul came home dreaming of one day becoming an archaeologist who would find the evidence to prove to the world that the Book of Mormon and the LDS gospel was true, but was it?

It's been another whirlwind month of games in Germany and we've been feeling the pressure.Last episode, we were each given five games to salvage our careers in Germany. Eight points were required from those games and Shane got off to a flyer with a 3-0 win over Stuttgart followed by a 1-1 draw with Mainz before our live play to close out episode 117 saw him hold on to beat Arminia Bielefeld 2-1. After coming off bruising defeats to PSG and Hertha, both at home, Ken's also had a positive start with a 1-0 win over Koln followed by a 4-0 thrashing of Schalke that included a first Bundesliga hat-trick for Dion Drena Beljo. You would think that safety would be guaranteed. Shane needs just one point from two games, and get needs two from three games but the first of those is against Bayern, with Union Berlin and RB Leipzig waiting in the wings.Shane's also got basement side Nurnberg and Hertha to deal with as well, but there's always a twist somewhere along your Football Manager journey and no matter how much you think you're doing right, there's always a club board somewhere that finds a way to get the digs in.Robbie and Koln still exist in the world too and while results haven't been going well, he's yet to be sacked. Oh, and we've got a January transfer window with a little bit of activity for both clubs in a bid to try and salvage something out of the trainwreck that has been life in Germany. Is it over yet? Previously, Max was a strength and conditioning coach at Nurnberg and St Pauli in Bundesliga 2. in Germany, with a previous background as an acting coach. We're going to learn how Max made that jump through the ranks, starting with his time as the owner of a gym where St Pauli's players came to train. Following his move to Bundesliga 2., he talks about the times he had to create full training programmes with minimal access to facilities, identifying the gaps in a training programme and plugging them, followed by when it's time to leave a role once you feel you've fulfilled your potential. Subsequently, Max then tells us how he then made the big transition from S&C coach to the Earthquakes' Director of Performance. In his current role, Max discusses the influence he can exert over training programmes, and the particular processes and systems he prefers to put into place to achieve certain results. From his now more senior position, he also offers insight into how management and leadership differ, and how undertaking an MBA has impacted his day-to-day life. Grab that mimosa, spiked or not, and join Gail as she interviews Sandra about travel in these challenging times. People are ready to board the plane and travel to their favorite spot for some rest and relaxation on the beach, a cruise ship, or enjoy their family in Florida. Sandra shares the top five locations that people are frequenting.  Sandra's Bio Sandra Preston-Rogers was born in Nurnberg, Germany. After 15 years in Corporate America and 11 years working for non-profit organizations, Sandra finally found her passion in travel. She started her travel business, JLP Travels, in 2017, naming it in honor of her parents, especially her father, who loved to travel. After his untimely passing, Sandra vowed to continue his promise to travel the world.  She now helps clients in all areas of travel from groups to cruises to honeymoons and more, and trains other travel agents as a Certified Travel Ambassador.  What should we be looking for when it comes to travel? Sandra tells us:  Travel is still happening! It should be about you having an amazing trip without anxiety.  The kinds of provisions that the travel industry has made to increase safety.  How flights, hotels and resorts have accommodated people travel during this time.  How COVID testing and social distancing plays a role.  Many people never stopped traveling. And travel has opened up for many others.  It's important to know that the people in the industry want to keep you comfortable and as safe as possible.  Gail asked about specific kinds of precautions in the cruise industry. How are they dealing with people who are or are not vaccinated? Sandra talked about the stance they are taking.  Sandra also mentioned some ideas for “Girlfriend Trips.”  Ideas for Mother's Day and how to surprise Mom How to travel with your girlfriends again and have something to look forward to, especially the all-inclusive resorts  Different places you can go right now and find excitement (and even enjoy a mimosa on the beach!). If you miss cruises, you might consider an all-inclusive resort with all the same advantages on land. What are the top 5 all-inclusive resorts from around the world, whether you're going with girlfriends or as a couple?  Sandra shares her top picks and explains why they are so amazing. She also discusses the different concerns you might have, how to determine what's safe and what is the best choice for you, whether singles, couple, or family.  Some other ideas Sandra covers:  Family-friendly destinations How to add some luxury to your trip Turnaround time to acquire a passport (less than you think!) and destinations that don't require a passport  Typical prices for many of these packages (spa packages especially) What to look for in a house rental to be sure they follow best practices  How to find safe and reliable services to come to your rental (such as chef, massage therapist, and so on) Finally, Sandra relates the many benefits of using a travel agent compared to doing it all yourself when you plan a trip.  Don't miss Gail's Merlot Mimosa for something a little different!  Don't forget: Gail is giving out gift cards during the month of May to the first 5 people who submit a mimosa recipe! Armenian-Australian singer Natalie Aroyan is one of the country’s leading sopranos, having taken on some of the biggest roles in the opera repertoire. But it wasn’t always her dream to be an opera star – instead, she had singers like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Tina Arena in her sights. In this fascinating conversation with Lyndon Terracini, Natalie reveals her journey from budding pop singer to centre stage at the Sydney Opera House. She talks about making her professional debut as Mimì in La Bohème, tackling the enormous demands of the title role in Aida, and learning her craft from opera world royalty. Natalie’s roles at Opera Australia also include Desdemona (Otello), Micaëla (Carmen), Amelia Grimaldi (Simon Boccanegra) and Eva (Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg). The conversation finishes with a special performance of ‘Krunk’ a song by Armenian composer Komitas, accompanied by Opera Australia’s Head of Music, Tahu Matheson.

Hi listeners! In this weeks episode of the Warships Podcast we discuss an assortment of new premium ships coming to the game in the near future. Breaking down ships that we are currently testing and reviewing, as well as a bit of speculation on three ships that will hopefully make there appearance soon in game. Getting into our show discussion we start off with USS Kidd, a Fletcher class Destroyer that has been slotted at Tier 8 instead of 9. The reasoning of this is that it has one less torpedo rack, trading torpedoes for improved anti aircraft capabilities. We discuss at length our current experiences with the ship and give our thoughts on how it could be improved as well as its current standing in the random meta and possibilities for competitive play. The next ship we are testing is the French Cruiser DeGrasse. A solid cruiser that each cast member believes is a solid premium that we feel, is ready to ship to the public right now. We talk about its strengths and weaknesses and talk about French Cruiser play in general. Moving on from the current premium ships that we are testing, the cast gets into the big and highly anticipated ships, and by big ships, we really mean ENTERPRISE! We talk about the Big E and carrier game play, matchmaking, and how even non CV players will be getting this ship just based on the fact that its the Enterprise. The cast also talks about Admiral Markarov which is the Nurnberg but as it was when sold to the Russians and HMS Gallant is a Royal Navy Destroyer. Which is a ship featured in an upcoming movie about the massive evacuation at Dunkirk. We discuss these ships and move onto our final topic for the show. The Sink the Bismarck campaign discussion rounds out the podcast with the sale of HMS Hood which is now available via a staggered bundle system. Much like how Graf Spee was handled, players who were familiar with that will understand this system and campaign. We talk about the merits of the sale and remind players that you have 19 days to complete this run. The 100 dollar bundle is brought up and debated as we go over the pluses and minuses for making such a purchase, and break down what the bundle contains.
