LIVE FROM SAN FRANCISCO Florida Governor Ron DeSantis gained power over Reedy Creek Improvement District, where Walt Disney World is located. Disney has controlled it since the 1960s. DeSantis targeted the district when Disney opposed a bill he supported, known as the “Don't Say Gay” bill. The bill's core is the appointment of a five-person state board to oversee municipal services, such as fire protection and road maintenance, where Disney World operates. The board can raise revenue to fund services and pay off Disney's debts. DeSantis stressed that under the new structure, Disney would still be responsible for its municipal debts, and local governments would not raise taxes. Is this corporatism reigned in or government tyranny? Also... voting machine manufacturer Dominion is suing Fox News for $1.6 billion over allegedly false reporting on its software. Recent testimony from Rupert Murdoch, founder of the conservative news network, revealed that Fox hosts like Sean Hannity and Jeanine Pirro "endorsed" the claim that the 2020 election was stolen. In text messages between Fox News employees, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham insulted and mocked Trump advisers Sidney Powell and Rudolph W. Giuliani. The messages suggest that even Rupert Murdoch, Fox Corporation's chairman, thought Trump's voter fraud claims were "really crazy stuff." Will Fox have to pay?
Dave Rubin of “The Rubin Report” talks about Mike Pence explaining why he thinks Ron DeSantis' ending of Disney's Reedy Creek Improvement District was a mistake and how he would have dealt with Disney as a limited-government conservative. A new Florida law amounts to a state takeover of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the government body that has given Disney unique powers in Central Florida for more than half a century. It allows the governor to replace the district's existing board – mostly people with ties to Disney – with a five-member body that he hand-picks. “Today, the corporate kingdom finally comes to an end,” DeSantis said Monday at a Reedy Creek fire station in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. “There's a new sheriff in town and accountability will be the order of the day.” Bill Gates has acquired a minority stake in Heineken Holding NV, the controlling shareholder of the world's second-largest brewer, for about $902 million. Chicago Mayor Lightfoot becomes the first Chicago mayor to lose a bid for reelection in 40 years, when former mayor Jane Byrne was ousted in 1983. Lightfoot's loss sets up former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas (D) and Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson (D) for a head to head faceoff in the runoff election on April 4.

Yesterday, Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law legislation that puts the State of Florida in charge of a reconstituted body known The Reedy Creek Improvement District. Positioned at a firehouse down the way from Disney Springs, the governor put into law this legislation. It occurs on the same day his new book came out, The Courage to Be Free, Florida's Blueprint for America's Revival. Now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, it still functions like a county government and takes care of things like roads, construction permits, fire services, building codes, water and waste collection, among other infrastructure concerns. But in this instance it will be led by individuals the governor has chosen to put in place rather than those elected by its district, namely the Walt Disney World Company. Why does this matter, and what are the consequences? Moreover, what messages is it sending to Disney, its fans, and importantly, the citizens of the state of Florida? We will look at how all this came to be, and importantly, why the State of Florida should probably not be in charge of Reedy Creek. Note: I mention Walt Disney's concern about spending $100K on building out Walt Disney World. I meant to say $100 million.
The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 4: On Monday, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill that removed Disney's “special status” in Florida. Caroline Downey, of National Review, writes: “The bill gives the governor the authority to appoint all five governing board members for the Reedy Creek Improvement District, a departure from the previous arrangement in which Disney was able to appoint all board members, allowing the storied entertainment company control over services and development within the special district.” You can read Downey's recap at: https://www.nationalreview.com/news/desantis-signs-bill-to-take-control-of-disneys-special-district/ While speaking with Brian Kilmeade, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush endorsed Ron DeSantis for president in 2024. Does DeSantis really want Bush's endorsement? Can President Joe Biden unilaterally cancel $400 billion in student loan debt? In 2021, even former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi stated, “it would take an act of Congress, not an executive order, to cancel student loan debt.” On Tuesday, the United States Supreme Court will hear oral argument in Biden v. Nebraska and will ultimately decide if the Executive Branch possesses this authority—or if it's exceeding its power. REPLAY: Congressman Guy Reschenthaler—Representative for Pennsylvania's 14th District and Serves on the House Appropriations Committee & the House Committee on Rules—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Pennsylvania resident Marc Fogel's continued detainment in a Russian prison. Why hasn't the Biden Administration prioritized Fogel's safe return? Rep. Reschenthaler also discusses the U.S. Energy Department's conclusion that COVID-19 likely originated via a laboratory leak in Wuhan, China.
The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (02/27/2023): 3:05pm- According to a Wall Street Journal report, the United States Energy Department “has concluded that the Covid pandemic most likely arose from a laboratory leak, according to a classified intelligence report recently provided to the White House and key members of Congress.” Michael R. Gordon and Warren P. Strobel note, “[t]he Energy Department's conclusion is the result of new intelligence and is significant because the agency has considerable scientific expertise and oversees a network of U.S. national laboratories, some of which conduct advanced biological research.” You can read the full report at: https://www.wsj.com/articles/covid-origin-china-lab-leak-807b7b0a?mod=hp_lead_pos2 3:20pm- Congressman Guy Reschenthaler—Representative for Pennsylvania's 14th District and Serves on the House Appropriations Committee & the House Committee on Rules—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Pennsylvania resident Marc Fogel's continued detainment in a Russian prison. Why hasn't the Biden Administration prioritized Fogel's safe return? Rep. Reschenthaler also discusses the U.S. Energy Department's conclusion that COVID-19 likely originated via a laboratory leak in Wuhan, China. 3:45pm- In a new opinion editorial in The New York Post, George Washington University Law Professor Jonathon Turley argues that one of the most important stories associated with the COVID-19 laboratory leak theory is the media's desperate attempt to censor it. 4:00pm- Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) remains voluntarily hospitalized and is receiving treatment for clinical depression. What is the status of his health? His aides say he is doing well and “on a path to recovery.” 4:10pm- Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs & White House Spokesperson John Kirby addressed the press on Monday—defending the Biden Administration's decision to continue to support gain-of-function research despite revelations from the Department of Energy that COVID-19 likely spread via a laboratory leak. 4:15pm- FLASHBACK: On February 8th, National Institutes of Health Acting Director Dr. Lawrence A. Tabak told a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing that the viruses being studied at a laboratory in Wuhan, China, bore no resemblance to the one that is responsible for the worldwide pandemic. 4:20pm- FLASHBACK: The Daily Caller put together a montage of notable personalities and government officials dismissing the “lab leak theory” as a Donald Trump-initiated conspiracy theory. The montage includes Joy Reid, Joe Scarborough, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the New York Times' Maggie Haberman, and several experts from CNN and MSNBC. Will anyone admit they were wrong? 4:30pm- While speaking with Martha Raddatz on ABC, journalist Terry Moran stated that he believes President Joe Biden should visit East Palestine, Ohio as the community continues to deal with a toxic chemical spill resulting from a February 3rd train derailment. 4:40pm- When asked by White House press if he plans to visit East Palestine, Ohio, President Joe Biden said he already did a “Zoom” with the community and expressed no interest in visiting in-person. He also hilariously said the video conferencing application “Zoom” reminded him of the Aretha Franklin song, “Who's Zoomin' Who?” 5:00pm- “The Drive at 5” is BACK: Why did the media completely dismiss the possibility of a laboratory leak being responsible for COVID-19? FLASHBACK: In April of 2020, NPR claimed that science had “debunked” the theory. For months, media members claimed that anyone suggesting there was a possibility that COVID-19 originated via a laboratory leak was conspiratorial and xenophobic. Those lines of attack were initially iterated by a Chinese Ambassador attempting to shield Chinese leadership from criticism during an interview with Face the Nation in February of 2020. Why did American media do exactly what China wanted? 5:40pm- According to a report from Fox News Digital, the House Oversight Committee has learned that Hunter Biden considered one of his business partners a “close confidant and counsel” to then-Vice President Joe Biden in 2014. 5:50pm- Actor Woody Harrelson hosted this past weekend's episode of Saturday Night Live—joking about a film script he was given where drug cartels forced citizens into lockdowns until they take certain drugs. Unsurprisingly, the monologue ruffled feathers. 6:05pm- On Monday, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill that removed Disney's “special status” in Florida. The US has denied these allegations. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said in a Monday briefing that "It is also common for US balloons to illegally enter the airspace of other countries. Since last year, US high-altitude balloons have illegally flown over China’s airspace more than 10 times without the approval of Chinese authorities." https://rumble.com/v29bau8-rep.-mike-waltz-i-hope-this-wakes-the-country-up-to-the-cold-war-that-were-.html - Play Video According to the Associated Press, Wang did not give additional details about the alleged US balloons, how China has dealt with these balloons, or whether the balloons had military or government links. Wang said the US should "first reflect on itself and change course, rather than smear and instigate a confrontation." The allegation came after the US shot down a Chinese spy balloon that traveled across North America, targeting it off the coast of South Carolina. Additional unidentified flying objects later identified as balloons have been shot down since then. China has claimed that the balloon shot down off the coast of South Carolina was an unnamed airship created for meteorological research, and that this balloon was blown off course. China has accused the US of overreacting by shooting down the balloon, and has threatened to take action in response. US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said on Monday that claims the US has operated surveillance balloons over China is false. https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/microsoft-newsmax-conservative-media/2023/02/13/id/1108447/ Microsoft Removes 'Negative Flags' for Conservative Sites Microsoft removed its "negative flags" for conservative media outlets on a "secret blacklist," including Newsmax, that were blocked from getting key advertising dollars, the Washington Examiner reported. As part of its series on "disinformation" tracking groups, the Examiner reported internal data showed Microsoft was doing a review, and suspending its subscription to a tracking group devoted to defunding what it sees as "disfavored speech." Microsoft-owned advertising company Xandr previously abided by a "secret blacklist" of conservative news put together by the Global Disinformation Index, a British organization with two affiliated U.S. nonprofits, the Examiner reported. Microsoft now appears to be taking steps to distance itself from GDI, and has deleted flags such as "false/misleading" and "reprehensible/offensive" for right-leaning websites, the Examiner reported, citing the internal data it obtained. "I just checked in Xandr's platform again and can confirm that all rejection flags have been removed from domains," an unnamed executive in the ad industry told the Examiner. Xandr had labeled 39 conservative domains as "false/misleading." Townhall, whose publisher is Salem Media Group, was flagged as "reprehensible/offensive," the Examiner reported. The Examiner also noted it was among those flagged as "false/misleading," along with Newsmax, the Daily Wire, RealClearPolitics, Drudge Report, Breitbart, the Blaze, the Washington Times, Judicial Watch, and the Media Research Center affiliate MRC.TV. An internal Xandr dataset showed all those websites no longer have a designation, though it's unclear if they are getting ads from certain brands without an "approved" classification. "We try to take a principled approach to accuracy and fighting foreign propaganda," a Microsoft spokesperson told the Examiner. "We're working quickly to fix the issue, and Xandr has stopped using GDI's services while we are doing a larger review." According to the Examiner, Xandr informed publishers in September 2022 it would begin to adopt GDI's "dynamic exclusion list," which the organization feeds to ad companies. Through a list that may include at least 2,000 websites, GDI allegedly tried to pressure companies to shut down certain sites. The Examiner also reported the GDI has claimed the 10 "riskiest" outlets are Newsmax, the American Spectator, the Federalist, the American Conservative, One America News Network, the Blaze, the Daily Wire, RealClearPolitics, Reason, and the New York Post. GDI compiles the list with oversight from its own "advisory panel," which includes Ben Nimmo, global lead for threat intelligence at Facebook parent company Meta, and left-leaning journalist Anne Applebaum, the Examiner reported, who once dismissed Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings as uninteresting. GDI has claimed the 10 "least risky" websites are NPR, ProPublica, the Associated Press, Insider, the New York Times, USA Today, the Washington Post, Buzzfeed News, HuffPost, and the Wall Street Journal. https://variety.com/2023/biz/news/disney-reedy-creek-ron-desantis-no-lawsuit-1235520205/ Disney Will Not Fight DeSantis Takeover of Special District in Orlando Disney will not fight a bill that gives Gov. Ron DeSantis broad powers over its Orlando theme parks, after the bill passed both houses of the Florida Legislature this week. The bill establishes a new district to assume the powers held by the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which Disney has controlled since it was created in 1967. The new entity, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, will be run by a five-member board appointed by DeSantis and confirmed by the state Senate. In a statement, Disney said it is “ready to work within this new framework,” indicating that it will not try to challenge the law in court. The Legislature moved to dissolve the Reedy Creek district last April, after Disney came out against the Parental Rights in Education law, known to its critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Some observers had suggested that Disney could file a First Amendment lawsuit or seek to challenge the takeover on various other grounds. But Jeff Vahle, the president of Walt Disney World Resort, said in the statement released on Friday that the company will accommodate itself to the new reality. “For more than 50 years, the Reedy Creek Improvement District has operated at the highest standards, and we appreciate all that the District has done to help our destination grow and become one of the largest economic contributors and employers in the state,” Vahle said. “We are focused on the future and are ready to work within this new framework and we will continue to innovate, inspire and bring joy to the millions of guests who come to Florida to visit Walt Disney World each year.” The legislation was introduced on Monday. It passed the state House of Representatives on Thursday on a vote of 82-31, with 81 Republicans and one Democrat voting “yes.” All 31 “no” votes came from Democrats. The state Senate approved the bill on Friday on a party-line vote, with 26 Republicans in favor and nine Democrats opposed. It now goes to DeSantis for his signature. The Reedy Creek Improvement District has broad authority over zoning, infrastructure, fire response and public utilities over a nearly 40-square-mile area in Osceola and Orange counties. The entity levies taxes on Disney and issues tax-exempt bonds for infrastructure projects. As by far the largest landowner within the district, Disney has had the power to elect the five members of the Board of Supervisors. In establishing the new district, the Legislature left almost all of its powers intact. The legislation does remove the power to build a nuclear power plant and an airport, but those powers had never been used. The practical effect of the change could end up being negligible and park employees and visitors are unlikely to notice any difference. But DeSantis and future governors will have broad power to make life difficult for Disney if they choose to exercise it. https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/elections/seattle-public-schools-consider-closures-student-enrollment-plunges-post Seattle Public Schools consider closures as student enrollment plunges post-pandemic Seattle Public Schools may have to close some of its schools over the next few years as the district battles budget shortages and plummeting enrollment after the COVID-19 pandemic. The district does not plan on closing any of its 106 schools next year, and the earliest closures may occur in the 2024-2025 school year, The Seattle Times reported last week. Consolidating some schools for the 2024-2025 year could save $28 million as the district projects a $92 million budget shortfall that year. Student enrollment has dropped to roughly 50,000 students from nearly 54,000 in the 2019-2020 school year. In a best-case scenario, school administrators expect 49,000 students by 2032, and in a worst-case scenario, enrollment may be as low as 43,000. The declining enrollment comes after homeschooling rates nearly doubled in Washington at the height of the COVID pandemic and are still at elevated levels from the 2019-2020 school year. Jen Garrison Stuber of the Washington Homeschool Organization told Fox News that homeschool enrollment is down, however, in Seattle from pre-pandemic numbers. "I really think that what Seattle's seeing, where those students have gone are either to private schools or they've left the school district and have moved elsewhere," she said. "What’s happening right now on Capp Street is it’s become more brazen, and bigger than we’ve ever seen it before," county Supervisor Hillary Ronen told The Los Angeles Times last week. "Instead of repeating the same cycle that we’ve repeated for decades, it’s time to try something new." Ronen called the situation "out of control" in comments to the San Francisco Chronicle, and pushed for San Francisco to install barriers on Capp Street in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District, after it became lined with prostitutes and pimps. This week, she is expected to announce a resolution that will urge state lawmakers to legalize prostitution. The surge in prostitution and apparent human trafficking in California comes after a change in law took effect last month that repealed a ban on loitering with the intent to engage in prostitution. The bill's sponsor, Democratic state Sen. Scott Wiener, argued the change would protect transgender women whom he said are disproportionately targeted by police. Police and Republicans in the state have since sounded off that the new law sparked prostitution to explode in certain areas of the state, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Oakland. Police said with the emboldened prostitution rings come robberies, shootings, aggravated assaults and other crimes. Many of the pimps are gang-affiliated and take no issue with beating women or going after rival pimps who try to poach one of the workers, they said. Some even record the beatdowns because they "think it’s funny," police said. The Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking, which is one of the largest and oldest direct service providers for sex and labor trafficking survivors in the U.S., threw its support behind the bill and told Fox News Digital that it endorsed repealing the former policy "because we know that reducing the criminalization of survivors will help prevent human trafficking." And now finally… it’s time for my favorite topic… sports! In case you missed it, Sunday evening, the superbowl took place, with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles… The game was an incredible one with highlight play after highlight play, with both teams putting up points: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWkt79xkd00 Play 2:30-2:37 Play 3:47-3:57 Play 4:44-4:55 Play 12:25-12:36 Play 14:24-15:01 Okay… so for those keeping score at home, it’s 35-35 at this point in the game, with just a few minutes left. Then, this happened. Play 15:45-16:52 What an anti-climactic ending… if you’re the official, how on earth do you throw that flag? James Bradbury, the cornerback for the Eagles who had the flag thrown on him, thought it was the correct call, so kudos to him for owning up, but even with that admission, the ball was clearly uncatchable for JuJu Smith-Schuster… Now the Chiefs still would have likely taken the lead with a field goal, but then Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense would’ve had over a minute to get down the field, and potentially tie, or win the game. Such an anti-climactic ending. This is from a guy who didn’t have a dog in the fight by the way. what are your guys thoughts on my take? You Eagles fans can send your fan mail to garrison@fightlaughfeast.com…

Speaking of homeschooling… Classical Conversations supports homeschooling parents by cultivating the love of learning through a Christian worldview in fellowship with other families.

We discuss the history of Disney's Reddy Creek Improvement District, signed into law in 1967 and rescinded in 2022 by the Florida Legislature and Governor Ron DeSantis.
You likely know John Morgan from billboards across Florida or from his commercials featuring the popular tagline “For The People.” You may not know that Morgan actually got his start in law following what he calls an “ugly legal battle” with Disney that involved his brother Tim. “He was paralyzed out at Disney World and he was paralyzed on the water,” Morgan said. Morgan said his brother was not adequately compensated due to the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which happens to be locked in a political battle that could cause Disney to lose its special governing authority. “The reason that his case, that he could never sue Disney World is because Reedy Creek was owned by Disney, so that was his employer and they had comp immunity so that Tim was never able to bring a lawsuit,” Morgan said. Morgan said the whole experience was a nightmare, “Disney treated Tim terribly,” he said. “They just fought him like he was a combatant enemy, even on his comp benefits and I was 19. We were poor as hell, and here we were with my brother a C6, C7 quadriplegic with this gigantic company. And, then they finally said to him they said ‘Well we will put you back to work,' so they could get out of paying him benefits. They said ‘We will make you an operator from 11 at night until 7 in the morning.'” This experience steered Morgan's career. “When Disney was messing with Tim, I became as mad at Disney as Ron Desantis is at Disney and that was — those moments in my life — was my inspiration for becoming a personal injury lawyer. I said then and there that my life's work was going to be representing people who were powerless, hopeless and helpless against big corporations like Walt Disney World. That's all I've ever done. I've never applied for a job anywhere else. Everybody that knows my story knows this is the story. So, it's been interesting to hear Reedy Creek's name come up after all those years after Tim was hurt in 1977.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The man who deemed the recent fight between Disney and Florida politicians “like a really ugly middle school ugly middle school breakup” sat down to talk with Florida's Fourth Estate hosts Ginger Gadsden and Matt Austin about the Reedy Creek Improvement District debacle. “(Disney and Florida politicians) were hot and heavy in this case for, like, five decades sort of each scratching each other's back and then all of a sudden you know Disney said, ‘Eh, we're not so fond of this Don't Say Gay bill, which they only said after a lot of pressure,” Orlando Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell said. “And then Disney, and this is really important in my mind and it gets overlooked, Disney also said we are going to stop giving you money, which Disney has given to politicians on both sides of the aisle for decades and as soon as that happened the politicians just went apoplectic.” He's referring to politicians approving a bill that would dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Maxwell, who has been covering Central Florida for years, calls it a rush job. “Part of the problem here, Ginger, is that you have probably done more research into what Reedy Creek involves than the legislatures and the policymakers who abolished it,” Maxwell said. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the bill into law in April. If nothing changes, the special district that has given Disney space to self-govern for decades would go away in 2023. On Florida's Fourth Estate, Maxwell discusses what getting rid of that district could mean for Disney. “There are some people who say, ‘Well, Disney is going to disintegrate and problems will happen if they don't have these powers.' I think that's a bunch of horse hockey,” Maxwell said. “If Disney doesn't have its own government, you know what Disney will do? It will function just like every other company in the world that doesn't operate its own government.” Maxwell also discussed the impact on local taxpayers. “Last we checked, there was something like a billion dollars worth of bond indebtedness that Disney has basically assumed right now via Reedy Creek, and if the state takes it over or if Orange County takes it over, that means taxpayers ultimately take it over and we still don't have good answers on to who is going to be responsible for all of that,” he said. Maxwell also goes on to talk about how all this plays into the DeSantis' political aspirations on the latest episode of Florida's Fourth Estate. You can hear his analysis and get a breakdown of this political battle and the week's most interesting stories in our state from hosts Matt Austin and Ginger Gadsden. When you're in Disney World, lost in the eerily self-contained universe of its vast theme parks, it can be hard to see that you're also in the Reedy Creek Improvement District, a special governance zone that gives the Walt Disney Company powers very like those of a county government. In April, Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida legislature passed a bill that would do away with Reedy Creek. But dissolving the district may result in a host of unfortunate consequences. On episode 48 of The Politics of Everything, hosts Laura Marsh and Alex Pareene discuss the surprising past and uncertain future of Disney's Reedy Creek with Jacob Schumer, a lawyer in Maitland, Florida, and Richard Foglesong, a historian and political scientist and the author of Married to the Mouse: Walt Disney World and Orlando. Walt Disney World is truly a special place. Not just because of Mickey, but also because the Reedy Creek Improvement District upon which Disney World rests is a one-of-a-kind special district under Florida law. Disney is responsible for almost all of the public services in the district, including trash disposal and issuing property taxes (which it pays to itself). At least, that's how it was until now. The special district status is in jeopardy after Florida legislators took umbrage at Disney's public opposition to Florida's HB 1557, commonly known as the “Don't Say Gay” bill. Will Disney World lose its Vatican-like status? What happens if it does? Are there First Amendment issues to consider? We discuss on this sidebar episode.

Will Disney leave Florida? How the company might respond in feud over self-governing status The Walt Disney Co. has been silent this past week over the Florida Legislature's action to repeal the Reedy Creek Improvement District. That's the governing structure for Disney's Orlando-area properties. That silence leaves much unknown about how Disney will respond and what its next steps will be. Under the legislation, the move would take effect in June 2023. The Legislature's action came in response to Disney's criticism of the Parental Rights in Education Act that Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law in March. The measure –... View Article

Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney. This week, we have some fun Disney Queue Trivia for you, but first, Disney News. There's a lot to say this week! In Disneyland Paris (which seems to be the testing ground for other parks) announced they're creating a Premier Access Ultimate Pass, which gives you a lightning lane for 12 attractions. Is it coming to the U.S. next? We shall see! Moving over to Tokyo Disneyland, the big news is they're redoing Space Mountain and Tomorrowland. The area will close in 2024 and reopen in 2027. Here in the U.S., the Paradise Pier Hotel in Disneyland will be redone to be Pixar-themed. Also in Disneyland, the Oogie Boogie Bash will be returning to Disneyland. Over in Disney World, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will also return (in August!) with some special overlays!!! And finally, down in Disney World, Florida's government repealed the Reedy Creek Improvement District that basically allows Disney to have their own sort of government since Disney sits in 2 different counties. We'll see what that means in the future. According to Kilimanjaro Safari, how did conservationists solve the conflict between farmers in Africa and wild elephants? What year do you get transported back to in the Hollywood Tower of Terror? Disney Imagineers spend a lot of time trying to make our wait time for rides in Disney World interesting. Answer these questions and more as we play Disney Queue Trivia. Thanks for listening and have a magical week! I've got a rather strong opinion about what happened in the state, regarding Disneys special improvement district. In summary: it can't end well for any of us, and not really thinking this through will cause Disney world to change in unexpected ways. I talk about the history and how we got here. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

In apparent retaliation from opposing the state's new "Don't Say Gay" law, the Florida governor and state lawmakers revoked Disney's special tax status. This ongoing battle began with Disney's criticism of a new law barring instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity. By revoking the Reedy Creek Improvement District, local counties will likely be left paying higher taxes and footing the bill for potholes and emergency services at Disney World.
