Send Kira a text message!Welcome to a very special episode of the Inclusive Stages podcast. A conversation centered around defining inclusion, creating a shared vision for this work, and establishing a brave space for difficult conversations. Because we can only become stronger and more connected people, organizations, and artists when we learn how to engage in hard conversations. I'm joined by two of my favorite collaborators and incredible colleagues, Zena Collins and Dr. Charmain Jackman. We sit down to discuss the state of inclusion work—especially the big question of how to keep pushing forward as inclusion practitioners despite what's going on in the world around us.I hope this episode can serve as a model for creating brave spaces built on trust, respect, relationship building, and what it looks like to engage in conversations from that place. The Worker Protection Act 2023 comes into force on 26 October 2024, imposing a new, proactive duty on all employers across the UK to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. With at least 1 in 5 men and nearly half of all women experiencing sexual harassment at work, this new compliance duty is an important step employers must prepare for. The new “preventative duty” shifts beyond reacting to complaints and requires employers to take steps to prevent harassment from occurring in the first place. Critically, the meaning of reasonable steps will vary from company to company, meaning employers will have to prove they have conducted a thorough risk assessment and understood what proactive steps look like in their business. In this episode, VinciWorks compliance experts will guide you through the process of complying with the Worker Protection Act. From assessing the risk of sexual harassment in the workplace to tracking incidents and customising training, this free, one-hour episode will make sure your office is ready to fight back against sexual harassment. This podcast will cover: The Worker Protection Act 2023 and its obligations on employers What sexual harassment in the workplace is Undertaking harassment risk assessments Using data to identify worrying trends before they come problems The meaning of proactive duty and reasonable steps in your organisation Implementing policies and procedures to prevent harassment Please note the podcast contains video recordings that you are about to listen to that discuss sensitive topics which some listeners may find upsetting.
This week we are focusing on livestock and their impact on climate change. We've heard about the concerns over the number of livestock here in the UK, and today we find out how beef farmers are reducing emissions by growing cattle faster. An online course has been launched to raise awareness of the importance, and lack of, diversity in UK agriculture. Nuffield Farming Scholarships say farming is one of the least diverse industries in the country in terms of ethnicity, disability and sexual orientation, and one of the barriers to changing that is the lack of understanding in the sector. The latest government figures show that 60% of farmers are over 55, with 38% over 65 and just 15% are under 45. The reality of that is highlighted by farm sales: Michael Read is 79 and has an award winning heard of Lincolnshire Red cattle, or at least he did until earlier this month when the herd was sold as none of the family wanted to take on the farm.Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Beatrice Fenton.

People may not realize it, but when they ask for your astrological sign, they're probing into occultism. Seeking to find out if you're an Aries, Taurus, or Capricorn, they're harkening back to a long dark history of trying to extract secret knowledge and power from patterns in the stars.1 In the process, they are not only flirting with occult superstition, they're assuming you do too. When people use the zodiac to find the exact alignment of celestial bodies at the time they were born, that's called a “natal star chart.” A horoscope then is the reading of a natal star chart (from the zodiac), with the belief (from astrology) that that chart informs us about our character, luck, and upcoming events, giving us person-specific advice based on this mystical knowledge. That's how horoscopes work. But Do They Really Work? Horoscopes kind of work, but not really. But Do They Really Work? Horoscopes kind of work, but not really. Horoscopes aren't accurate, even on the science side of things. There are serious errors in the zodiac that none other than NASA has pointed out. Your natal star chart according to the zodiac probably doesn't line up with where the stars actually were when you were born. That's because there aren't twelve, but thirteen, houses, and they move in ellipses, not circles. So they don't occupy equal time-frames in the visible sky. Plus, there is planetary drift and gravitational shift. All of these indicate gradual migration and distortion over the last 3,000+ years since astrologers began charting the sky. To the extent that modern horoscopes rely on antiquated star charts, they aren't even getting the star-gazing part right. Horoscopes are still fashionable today, but that's in spite of systemic flaws in charting the stars. Horoscopes are pseudo-science, replacing knowledge with superstition and false beliefs. They not only lack predictive value, they're obstacles to truth, wisdom, and understanding. Instead of turning to horoscopes for life direction and good fortune, we do better to seek God in prayer, spend time reading and studying Scripture, and seek counsel through godly Christian fellowship. After all, “the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10 NIV). To hear more, visit www.thestudiesshowpod.comIf you've ever done a diversity training session at work, you'll almost certainly have learned about unconscious bias, microaggressions, stereotype threat, and trigger warnings. Prejudice, racism, and trauma are apparently simmering constantly, just under the surface of our conscious minds. It turns out that each of these concepts has been subject to a lot of scientific research. It also turns out, perhaps unsurprisingly, that they're all extremely controversial. Big box electronics retailer Best Buy is under fire after it was revealed a company leadership program specifically bars white people from participating. (Is that racist?) As you might expect there was outrage online about this and calls for boycotting. The whole incident had me thinking about diversity training and how it tends to be taught these days. On this episode of Courage Conversations, we hear from Larry Weathers, CEO of Weather's Agency, who shares his experience growing up in a cult and how it led to navigating similar attitudes in corporate America. Larry talks about leaving the church and starting his own agency to create a safe space for women. He also discusses his struggles with Impostor Syndrome and how surrounding himself with a supportive community allowed him to find freedom and success. The conversation dives into the importance of self-care and how patriarchal ideology can make it difficult for men to prioritize self-care. Additionally, we hear from Ashley Easter, founder and executive director of Courage 365, who provides free resources for survivors of abuse and little-known stories of people leaving cults. Larry shares how he deconstructed everything he was taught about Christianity and how this led him to realize who God truly is. The episode concludes with a discussion on family relationships and the importance of breaking away from harmful behaviors. Men need to recognize and speak up against the oppression of women, and value the unique creative abilities that women bring to the table. Reunification with family members may not always be possible or safe, and it's important to prioritize personal growth and self-care while surrounded by a supportive community that affirms one's identity. On episode 149 of the "Grow Your Business & Grow Your Wealth" podcast, host Gary Heldt interviews Dr. James Rodgers, an expert in diversity management. They delve into the significance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and how it can positively impact businesses.
In light of June's Pride Month focus, many companies and organizations have made huge efforts to participate in social activism through events, products, and store displays. These companies include Target, Walmart, Barnes and Noble, Bud Light/Anheuser-Busch who partnered with Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender social media influencer, the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team honoring the drag queen group The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence with a Community Hero Award, and more. For any given company, there is an array of corporate customers including suppliers, distributors, corporate buyers, contractual partners, investment firms like Blackrock and Vanguard, lobbying groups like Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), and any number of industrial, commercial, legal, or governmental cogs in the machine of big business. Companies have to satisfy all these customers if they hope to stay in business. And the bigger the company, the more of these customers they have to satisfy. And the more they stand to lose if, for example, HRC gives them a bad diversity score on the “corporate equality index. From the standpoint of employers (bosses/owners), diversity training represents a concession to powerful forces injecting progressive (leftist) politics into the workplace. From the standpoint of average employees, diversity training is ideological arm-twisting — comply or else. This Postmodern Realities episode an in-depth conversation with JOURNAL author John Ferrer about his article, “How to Keep Your Job Without Losing Your Soul: A Survival Guide for Diversity Training” which is only available to read when you partner with CRI here. Listen now (2 min) | Obviously, the main social problem in America is that Black people run everything and us white folks as a group just can’t get a fair break, right? So says Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. As a lifelong white Texan, I can’t tell you how “amazing” it is to see our governor, come out unapologetically for a return to old-time institutional bigotry. Absolutely *Freaking* Amazing! Apparently, Abbott fantasizes that hordes of Black people are seizing control of our government, universities, banks, media… and other power centers, shoving aside more qualified and entitled whites. Going from fantasy to hallucination, he concludes that this takeover is caused by corporate and government hiring policies that bolster diversity and inclusiveness in our society. Even attempting to implement this democratic goal, he barks, is illegal because – get this – it violates federal law against discrimination.

The answer will determine whether the government may compel some religious businesses to support same-sex weddings. And new research shows diversity training is largely ineffective. Why do we continue to believe pre-packaged programs—both inside and outside the church—are how to change beliefs and behaviors? In the final episode of We Are Vineyard for 2022, we'll hear a sermon Dr. Charles Montgomery preached at the Vineyard Leadership Team Meeting in March 2022. Dr. Montgomery shares his vision for the Vineyard to become a Beloved Community, and how this value must become part of our discipleship process. Taken from the example of the disciples, we need to do the work to talk about the hard things that might divide us. Charles A. Montgomery, Jr serves as the Associations Strategic Coordinator for Vineyard USA and Teaching Pastor at Vineyard Columbus. Charles also founded a successful multiethnic Campus (Vineyard Columbus East) and has pastored there since 2012. His passion is to develop Beloved Communities as espoused by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, an alumnus of Charles' alma mater, Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Charles has a B.A. in Mathematics from Morehouse, a Master of Divinity from Emory University (Ga) and a PhD in Ethical and Creative Leadership from Union Institute University (OH). He has earned several credentials in Diversity Training and is a Certified Spiritual Director through the Sustainable School of Faith. He considers his greatest accomplishment (ok, grace) being married to his childhood crush, Kimberly. Charles and Kimberly are avid Buckeye fans (Go Bucks!) and make their home in Columbus Ohio. The fight over diversity in Southlake's Carroll Independent School District is back in the headlines and has a new focus — books. Teachers are worried about a new Texas law that limits instruction on contentious topics, and one of them secretly records a meeting in which a Carroll administrator offers an unexpected piece of advice: If teachers share books about the Holocaust with students, the administrator says, then they should also offer books on “opposing perspectives.” Teachers are incredulous, and the recording sets off an international backlash. In this special bonus episode, we speak with a former librarian at Carroll Senior High School, who retired early instead of continuing to navigate the battle over books, as well as a 12-year-old student whose mother pulled him out of the district after he faced severe bullying over his sexuality. And we have new details on what could be a game-changing development in Southlake: a federal civil rights investigation into students' complaints of discrimination. If you or someone in your life is in distress, you can always call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
