This episode of The Stage Show is about love that doesn't end well! The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice is retold in a hit folk musical called Hadestown. It's won Tonys, Grammys and is now in Australia. We speak to the singer-songwriter Anais Mitchell, who wrote Hadestown as a concept album, before touring it around in an old bus and then turning it into a remarkable stage show with the Broadway director Rachael Chavkin.Soprano Anna Dowsley sings the gorgeous aria Ah Belinda! In  Dido and Aeneas,  the opera by Henry Purcell about another ill-fated couple from classical times. Anna reflects on her character's fate and on working with acrobats in this production between Opera Australia and Circa, the Queensland based circus company.Anton Chekhov's play Three Sisters  follows the lives of  a 19th C. family who feel trapped and are hankering for something more. It continues our theme for the day of tragic love-stories. We hear from Theatre Works' new production with director Greg Carroll,  and actors Stella Carroll and Chris Connely. And globe trotting theatre critic from UK's The Stage newspaper, Richard Jordan, joins us for his highlights of the Adelaide Fringe .

Welcome to the Podcast of Southwest Bible Fellowship in Tempe, Arizona. WHO ARE WE? • We are a group of people who are committed to living the grace life as set forth by the apostle of the Gentiles, the Apostle Paul. • We come together to study our Bibles, and yes, we believe we have God's perfect Word in the King James Bible. It and it alone is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice! • We do not come together and study our Bibles for the intent of being smarter than others. We understand that knowledge for the sake of knowledge is purely vain and serves no Godly purpose. • We do come together and study our Bibles for the intent of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ and the power of His resurrection. (Philippians 3:10) • We do come together and study our Bibles to understand that we have been crucified with Christ; nevertheless we live; yet not us, but Christ liveth in us: and the life which we now live in the flesh, we live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved us and gave himself for us. (Galatians 2:20) • We do come together and study our Bibles to understand that because Jesus Christ shed His blood for us and we should not live for ourselves but for Him, who died for us and rose again. (2 Cor. 5:15) • We do not claim to have attained to these lofty goals, but we press toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Welcome to Cyberpunk Cinema – the Definitive Dive into the Dark Future of Science Fiction. I am your host, Anthony La Pira, and I will be taking you on a cinematic journey through the sprawling cityscapes, the crippling datastorms, and the cybernetic implants that encompass all things Cyberpunk. In this week's episode, I will be breaking-down the 1976 protopunk thriller, Logan's Run  – directed by Michael Anderson, starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Richard Jordan, Farah Fawcett, Peter Ustinov, and Roscoe Lee Browne.A police officer in the future uncovers the deadly secret behind a society that worships youth.Logan's Run was a landmark science-fiction film of the mid-1970s that posed the question – would you live in a utopian society where you didn't have to work or struggle but the payoff is that you'd have to sacrifice your life by the time you reach 30? That's the dilemma that haunts Logan and Jessica, as they decide to press their luck and see what remains outside the dome. It is a fascinating exploration on how we create the walls that imprison us from reality, the laws that govern us with fear, and the lies we tell each other that blind us from the truth. This is at the very core of Logan's Run.So, do me a favor – it's time to access your cranial jacks, boot up your Ono-Sendai Cyberspace 7, and slap on your damn mirror-shades. The Equalizer Season 3 Episode 15: Something Green Aired on CBS: February 10, 1988 Directed by: Luis Soto Written by : Kevin Droney Featuring: Macaulay Culkin! Almost three years before Home Alone, a seven year old Macaulay Culkin appeared in The Equalizer, his second credit. That in itself is worth the price of admission to watch this episode for free on nbc.com. You can tell he was bound for greatness. We just wish the creators of The Equalizer realized how proficient he would be at tricking his kidnappers and setting clever booby traps. Missed opportunity. This episode is also notable for stretching the possibilities of what's allowed under diplomatic immunity; the triumphant return of Mickey Kostmayer; and the final appearance of Richard Jordan as Harley Gage, initially brought in to pick up the slack after Edward Woodward's heart attack. We try to honor his departure... since the show itself did not. @equalizerspod equalizerspodcast at gmail dot com

Walsh, Richard Jordan, Gerry Bamman, Tomas Milian, Paul Calderon To paraphrase the IMDB episode description: "There's a very dense plot concerning a Congressional hearing about a Mafia-funded shadow army overthrowing dictators. And very separately in addition, McCall continues his recovery." On one hand we have J.T. Walsh, an all time great guest star, along with a full cast of regulars - Mickey, Control, Bagler, and Alice Shepard jezebelling over J.T. Walsh's heroism. All that plus multiple assassination attempts that were, like all failed assassinations, poorly executed. Compared to last episode, the prognosis is not so good. He's locked up in a super secret (but highly accessible) KGB fortress building (conveniently not to far from NYC), unconscious and recovering from a gunshot. Very special guest Robert Mitchum and new character Harley Gage get into crazy shenigans breaking in, talking with Russian accents, shocking themselves for some reason, seducing double agents, blowing things up, brandishing Uzis, and finally escaping with EQ on a helicopter. We meet our next guest, Richard Jordan in Queens just on the edge of Brooklyn as a little bar come café where we get all that beautiful New York City background noise. Richard's a Florida, Texas, New York transplant who describes himself as a bit of a loner up until age 9 until he found theater. It was a place where he could be himself and explore who he wasn't. He later describes finding acceptance among foreign students and leveraging that into a trip to France, and really a moment that expanded his mind and his horizons. Theater, and acting really are his passion and his purpose in life to give to other people and when he's not searching for a new role, he's on the other side as a casting Director. We talk about the joys and the pains of giving your all to something like acting in those auditions and not receiving any feedback or receiving the rejection, and a lot of it. We have a good chat about spirituality and religion and him growing up with pretty religious parents and himself not finding that proof, but open to the possibilities. Richard shares a few good philosophies like don't take yourself too seriously time is the only currency we have in the more you question yourself the more you can trust yourself and be ok with being wrong because you will eventually get it right. For behind the scenes content of the making of The Jar, meet the guests, see some footage of unreleased podcast episodes and more visit : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaTqB1dhDvl0Oh505ysdxTgTo be a guest on the show email us at thejarguest@gmail.com or visit our webpage : https://www.thejar.live/Follow The Jar on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/thejar_podcast/Follow The Jar on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/podcast.thejarDisclaimer: The views stated in this episode are our guest's opinions and do not represent the views, beliefs or opinions of The Jar Podcast. During the filming of season three, Edward Woodward suffered a heart attack and the show The Equalizer carried on. What we didn't know is just how they would handle it. First, they had to throw together a story fast -a KGB kidnapping with some agency scheming, check. Second, introducing a new character in the EQ universe who may carry the EQ torch in case Woodward can't continue with the show, check. Finally, some big star power (for the CBS demographic) who may not necessarily have a detectable resting heart rate. A lot of craziness, a lot of world building, quite the setup to this unexpected but necessary two parter, and our introduction to this new phase of the show. We just wish we could have sent Edward Woodward some flowers in 1987, just as his character has done more than once, awkwardly, to women in distress in the show. @equalizerspod equalizerspodcast at gmail dot com

Hop in the getaway car as we fumble through an already ill-conceived score gone wrong with part 2 of our ongoing deep dive on crime cinema with 1973's The Friends of Eddie Coyle, the godfather of Boston crime yarns. But on the way to the heist, we first gorge ourselves with Blue Plate Special topics as varied as Alex Garland's latest assault on the modern subconscious (Men), the unexpected yet welcome brilliance of Top Gun: Maverick, the utterly rotten and dishonorable Paramount+ televisual product The Offer, and a mourning of the loss of star Ray Liotta. Upon arriving to the subject of today's episode, we tackle what this movie gains from the monumental star presence of Robert Mitchum and how this work effectively threads the needle as a gripping genre offering and simultaneous paranoid, Watergate-era New Hollywood statement. Thanks again for listening and I will see you next time beyond the big screen.welcome back today. We are talking about the great movie from 1993 Gettysburg. So today I'm going to be the host, but, um, we have two great. Guests, but we're all kind of in on this [00:02:00] together. I'm Steve Guerra and I host the history of the papacy podcast as well as beyond the big screen podcast. I'm joined by James early and Sean MacGyver, Sean MacGyver is of the come and take a Texas history podcast. And James early is a professor from San Jacinto college who is an. Time's collaborator with Scott rank on his history unplugged podcast. Uh, it took a little doin, but we all came together. Are you excited to talk about Gettysburg? I am totally excited. I've been wanting to do this for a long time. I'm so glad we're finally doing it.Uh, why don't we just get we'll jump straight into it. James. Can you tell us a little bit about the background? Um, the book and the movie Gettysburg? Yes. The, uh, movie Gettysburg is based on a novel called the [00:03:00] killer angels, which was written in 1974, published in 1974 by Michael Shera or shore. I'm not really sure how that's pronounced.I think it shares is Shara, Shara. Okay. S H a R a. Uh, it was Michael Shara is kind of an interesting person. He was a writer in the 50, 60 seventies, eighties, a little bit. He wrote primarily science fiction and sports fiction, not too much historical fiction. He had four novels of which the killer angels is his second. And it's his only novel that is. Uh, historical fiction as a side note, it's interesting that he also wrote the book for love of the game, which was turned into a movie with Kevin Costner. But anyway, I don't want to get too far off track, but the killer angels was very well-received. It won the Pulitzer prize in 1975 and Shara, after he, after he wrote his fourth novel for love of the game killer angels was the second [00:04:00] one. After that he. Just wrote, well, actually not much of anything, if anything. And then he died in 1998. Uh, interestingly enough, after that his son, Jeff, Sharon, or Shara, uh, took up the torch and wrote a pre-qual called gods and generals and a sequel called the last full measure, making a civil war trilogy. And then Jeff Shaara went on to write many, many, many more historical novels, but. Going back to the killer angels. What's interesting about the killer angels is it tells the story of the battle of Gettysburg through the. And the thoughts of some of the major commanders on both sides. For example, there are chapters devoted to Robert Lee.What he is seeing, what he's thinking. There are chapters devoted to James Long street on the union side. The primary character is Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, who was the commander of the 20th Maine regiment. One of the key regiments on day two of the. [00:05:00] And there are other characters, of course, that are brought into it as well, but he really does a great job in the book.Putting you inside the mind of these commanders and what they were thinking and what they were feeling, what they were hoping to do, hoping to accomplish it's it's fiction. Of course, it's not a, it's not a regular history book. It's a, it's a historical novel, but I think Shera does or Shara, it's going to take me several times to get used to that, but, uh, it's it, he really.I think it's, it's a very accurate novel. A lot of the speeches and the dialogues are just made up, but others are based on things that these men wrote in their diaries or their letters or their memoirs. Uh, so it's a, it's a fantastic novel. I'm not going to lie. I'm just going to go ahead and lay my cards up ahead of time.I love this book. I love this book so much. I've read it probably five or six times, and I love this movie. This is one of my all time. Favorite movies. Of any genre, but anyways, so [00:06:00] that's the killer angels, the killer angels. It took them a while to make it into a movie, but the movie was made by Ted Turner and Ted Turner. It was going to be a mini series, but they decided to make it into a movie. And the movie itself is extremely long. In fact, I read that it's the longest feature film ever to be made and shown in movie theaters. Clocks in at about four hours and 15 minutes. There's an extended version. That's even longer. If it just in case four hours at 15 minutes is not long enough for you. But I remember when it came out, I was in grad school the first time. Uh, and I went and saw it, the theater. I think I was all by myself. My wife says, there's no way I'm going to watch a four hour movie war movie. So I went and saw it in the theater twice. So that's just how nerdy and how crazy I am, but I've always been a civil war nut. So, so the movie stars, it has an all-star cast it it's, it's an amazing cast. The primary [00:07:00] character on the. Confederate side is actually James Long street and he is played by Tom Berenger. Who's been in platoon and many, many other movies.Uh, Robert Lee. Another of the major characters he's played by Martin sheen. Everybody knows who Martin sheen is. He's been in films for several decades and many that he was on the west wing for many years. The TV show on the union side, the primary character is Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. Who's played by Jeff Daniels. Also a veteran actor. Who's been in a million things and let's see, who am I leaving out among the major characters? Yeah, Sam Elliot, how can I leave out Sam Elliott, dog on it? Sam Elliott, if you don't know who Sam Elliott is, uh, just turn off this podcast right now and go do some research. Go watch like 10, 10 of his movies.Sam Elliott is a legend. He's been in many westerns as well as other movies. Yeah, it was in the big Lebowski. He played the cowboy and he was the narrator. He [00:08:00] was in a, they were, we were soldiers, uh, the Vietnam movie with El Gibson. He was. Gosh, he's been so many things. He was in the original Hulk movie.Uh, the one that was didn't it had Edward Norton, I think, or I don't know. I don't know. That was, he was in the original one with, uh, uh, direct. Okay. So yeah, he was the general, but anyway, uh, so great cast. There's a lot of other people, C Thomas Howell is in it. Uh, Jordan Richard Jordan plays Lewis arm Armistead, and this was his last role.Uh, you can tell he was dying of cancer and you could definitely tell he was not well. Uh, but he's such a, if you've seen, you know, Richard Jordan, if you've watched the hunt for red October, he's the, uh, he's the national security. No way really. I don't have to go back and watch that again. Folks, Sean is like Mr.Movie. He is a walking film and cyclic was in it too. There's a James Bond in there. You have to look [00:09:00]

Al Sedano, Jesse Starcher, Evan Bevins and Mark Radulich present our Comic Stripped: Logan's Run Movie and Comic Review! Logan's Run (1976) is an American science fiction action film directed by Michael Anderson and starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Richard Jordan, Roscoe Lee Browne, Farrah Fawcett, and Peter Ustinov. The screenplay by David Zelag Goodman is based on the 1967 novel Logan's Run by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. It depicts a utopian future society on the surface, revealed as a dystopia where the population and the consumption of resources are maintained in equilibrium by killing everyone who reaches the age of 30. The story follows the actions of Logan 5, a "Sandman" who has terminated others who have attempted to escape death and is now faced with termination himself. Marvel Comics published a short-lived comic book series, which adapted the movie's story and briefly continued beyond it until the book was cancelled at issue #7. The Force Fed Sci-Fi Movie Podcast

This time, we review and take a look at the forgotten dystopian classic Logan's Run and along the way ask why do dystopian films want to take the fun out of reproduction, why only keep humans alive until 30, and how did this film get lost in the shuffle? Let's dive in… Logan's Run Movie Cast and Crew Directed by Michael Anderson: The English director had previously made the original film adaptation of George Orwell's classic novel 1984 and his film, Around the World in 80 Days, had won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Starring Michael York as Logan 5: He is more popularly known as Basil in the Austin Powers film franchise, but had appeared in the adaptation of the popular musical Cabaret. Richard Jordan as Francis 7: Logan's Run was one of Jordan's first roles, but would appear in Dune and The Hunt for Red October prior to his death in 1993. Jenny Agutter as Jessica 6: This was an early film role for her as well, but has since appeared in An American Werewolf in London and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Farrah Fawcett-Majors as Holly 13: She was on TV during at this time in The Six Million Dollar Man as well as Charlie's Angels and thus, received prominent billing due to her rising stardom at the time. Peter Ustinov as The Old Man: The legendary actor has won two Academy Awards for his roles in Spartacus and Topkapi. Roscoe Lee Browne as Box: While not exactly appearing on-screen in Logan's Run, Browne would later become a very accomplished voice actor; The Real Ghostbusters, Batman: The Animated Series and Spider-Man. From the Page to the Screen Logan's Run is based on a novel of the same name by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson which released in 1967. Almost immediately after the novel's release, it was optioned for a future film adaptation, but it labored in developmental hell for years. The producer who had originally acquired the film rights, George Pal, had differing opinions with his screenwriters in regards as to the tone of the film. The writers originally wanted to incorporate relevant themes at the time of the late 1960's, but Pal wanted a more fun sci-fi romp. These rewrites caused production to be delayed as Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey had revived the science fiction genre among audiences. Pal would later leave the project and fellow producer Saul David stepped in with a new writing team who made significant changes from the novel to the film. For starters, the original age limit was raised from 21 to 30 to allow for a wider range of actors and extras to be involved in the project. The biggest spectacle of the film, the Carrousel, was created specifically for the film and is not a part of the original novel. It was simply a means to create a ceremony of sorts while the original novel simply had people "go to sleep." The backstory of the Cubs is also explained in greater detail and even giving Jessica a friend who is part of the juvenile gang. One of the biggest changes is the idea of Sanctuary. In the film, Sanctuary is not real while in the novel, Sanctuary does exist, but it is located on Mars and requires a rocket ship to reach it. While audiences always expect to see some changes from a film's source material, Logan's Run does a decent job of retaining the major elements of the film, but making it more watchable for a 1970's movie going audience. The Relevancy of Logan's Run At first glance, the film seems like a campy sci-fi romp with cheesy special effects and you'd be sort of correct, but it's also interesting to note several major parallels to today's world. The major element being the reliance of technology in both the film and our world. There's smart homes, magnetic rail cars and a gigantic computer that seems to control every aspect of the mega city. Nearly every home today has some type of smart technology from a refrigerator to a
