This Netflix crime thriller was directed by James Ashcroft, produced by the Russo Brothers and is based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Alex North. The film stars Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan & Adam Scott. In this film, a novice writer and his son move to the hometown of his late wife but upon moving in they learn of serial killer who kidnaps young boys specifically and have now become a target. After Netflix acquired the movie rights to the novel in 2023, production began but didn't get off the ground until 2025 when the Russo Bothers joined as producers. The film dropped on Netflix on August 28th, 2026.

Fresh off the heels of the success of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', Marvel quickly announced that the Russo Brothers would be returning to helm the next film in the Captain America franchise. What then followed was a series of announcements that gradually sent its fandom into a shared delirium. Robert Downey Jr would be reprising his role as Iron Man...this time as an antagonist. The film would loosely adapt the famed Civil War storyline. The Black Panther would be making his MCU debut in the film. Then the big one: Marvel had reached a deal with Sony Studios for part ownership of the most important character in their expansive roster. Spider-Man would be making his MCU debut in the film, played by relative up-and-comer Tom Holland.It was a lot to whet a fan's appetite, but it also raised slight concerns that maybe they were, quite literally, writing cheques that their mouths couldn't cash. Bad boy Thanos gets an infinity stone, the Power Stone. His play is to get all six Infinity Stones and wipe out half of all life in the universe.  His first stop is the ship carrying the surviving people of Asgard. Thanos easily overwhelms the remaining Asgardians, beats up Hulk, and steals the Space Stone from Loki's Tesseract. He then kills Loki. Thanos then destroys the ship and continues his hunt. Edris Elba helps make sure that Hulk returns to earth, where he crashes through the New York Sanctum. Back as Bruce, He warns Doctor Stephen Strange and Wong that Thanos is coming.  Tony Stark joins the conversation. Before he can call Steve Rogers to get the band back together, they attack the city to claim the Time Stone from Strange. Spider-Man is pulled into the chaos, and after they captures Strange aboard his spaceship, Stark and Peter Parker secretly hitch a ride into space to rescue him while Wong remains behind to defend the Sanctum. Meanwhile, the Guardians of the Galaxy answer a distress signal and save Thor floating in space. They agree they need to work together to stop Thanos. But they're too late. Thanos already possesses the Reality Stone and uses its power to manipulate everything around them. He captures Gamora after learning she knows the location of the Soul Stone. Desperate to save her adopted sister Nebula from torture, Gamora tells him where the stone is .  When they get there, the keeper of the Soul Stone, one Red Skull, reveals the price required to obtain it: the sacrifice of someone truly loved. In one of the film's most tragic moments, Thanos throws Gamora to her death, earning the Soul Stone. Vision and Wanda are ambushed in Scotland by Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive, who attempt to rip the Mind Stone from Vision's forehead. Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon arrive just in time to save them, bringing the wounded Vision back to the Avengers Compound. Vision urges Wanda to destroy the Mind Stone and kill him if necessary to stop Thanos, but she cannot bring herself to do it. Instead, the team heads to Wakanda, believing Shuri may be able to safely remove the stone without sacrificing Vision's life. Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange end up on Titan and come face to face with Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis and they realize they're in the same team.  Using the Time Stone, Strange studies millions of possible futures and discovers only one path where they succeed. Together they execute an elaborate plan to restrain Thanos and remove the Infinity Gauntlet. For a moment, it almost works—until Nebula reveals that Gamora is dead. Overcome with grief and rage, Star-Lord attacks Thanos, ruining the team's hold on him. Thanos breaks free, defeats everyone, and nearly kills Iron Man. To save Tony's life, Doctor Strange willingly surrenders the Time Stone, despite knowing how dangerous it is. In Wakanda, the Avengers prepare for an all-out invasion from Thanos's army. Bruce Banner, unable to transform into Hulk, enters battle wearing the Hulkbuster armor. The tide finally turns when Thor arrives in spectacular fashion alongside Rocket and Groot, tearing through Thanos's army with his fresh new hammer/ax combo, Stormbreaker. Despite their efforts, Thanos himself eventually reaches Vision. Wanda heartbreakingly destroys the Mind Stone—and Vision with it—just before Thanos can claim it. But using the Time Stone, Thanos reverses time, restores Vision briefly to life, and violently tears the stone from his forehead, killing him again. With all six Infinity Stones finally united, the Infinity Gauntlet is complete. Thor attacks and buries Stormbreaker deep into Thanos's chest, but Thanos coldly tells him he “should have gone for the head.” He snaps his fingers and vanishes. Across the universe, half of all life immediately turns to dust. Bucky Barnes, Black Panther, Groot, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis all fade away. [School of Movies 2026] The main event Electric State episode was recorded at the start of the year with Willow, a powder-keg, ready to go thermonuclear. We decided to include it in MA.I. as it is absolutely thematically relevent. What we have here is an adaptation of a haunting 2018 art book by Simon Stålenhag depicting an alternate 1997 where mankind has slowly descended into an advertising-plastered corporate Matrix. A teenage girl and her robot companion travel America while she recounts their story in dreamlike prose, accompanied by unsettling imagery of people who have become trapped in Virtual reality while mechanical behemoths stalk the land. The 2025 Netflix version is the most repugnant, empty $320m blockbuster bastardisation of elegant art we have ever seen, and it is all the worse coming from directors the Russo Brothers, Marcus & McFeely, the superstar writing team that made the MCU great, the legendary Alan Silvestri composing, even Jeffrey Ford, the editor of Captain America: The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier and Civil War and Iron Man 3, AND The Avengers, and Age of Ultron and Infinity War and Endgame. Basically almost everyone at the top of the production team is coming back for Doomsday and Secret Wars. What the hell happened? Following that nightmare we have Ron's Gone Wrong, a much more compassionate little 2021 animated movie about another kid with another robot, but this one takes the opposite approach of highlighting how frighteningly easy it is to become trapped by 24/7 performative self-presentation on Social Media. Nowhere near enough people saw it, and we're hoping to get a few of you to change that. By that same token, absolutely everyone is advised to watch the criminally underseen gem that concludes MA.I. next week... Companion. You know the avengers: Captain America , black widow , falcon, and Wanda. The classics. It does not go well.  After another bad mission,  The UN comes in and says they want to put the Avengers under government control with something called the Sokovia Accords.. Tony who shows up to this meeting, feeling guilty about creating Ultron, is like “yeah maybe we should have supervision.” Steve, meanwhile, is like “I actually trust myself more than literally any government on earth.” Uh oh, I smell a civil war!  We see a guy named Zemo kill Bucky's old Hydra handler and steal the magic words book that turns Bucky into a murder robot.  Meanwhile, at the big UN meeting, a bomb goes off and kills the king of Wakanda. Security footage makes it look like Bucky did it. The kings son, T'Challa, is very much on the case.  Steve decides he's gonna go get Bucky himself despite the fact that he could get arrested in the process. He and Sam track him down and try to talk to him, where things immediately turn into a whole mess. T'Challa shows up to kill Bucky, and it leads to a massive chase which ends in everyone getting arrested because you can't just do whatever you want anymore.  They bring in a psychiatrist to evaluate Bucky but it's actually Zemo. Bucky goes nuts but Zemo escapes.  Steve is able to save Bucky from the water and  Bucky comes back to himself. He explains that Zemo framed him and is heading to Siberia, where Hydra supposedly has a bunch more Winter Soldiers ready to rock n roll.  Tony & Natasha decide they need to form a little group to stop Steve & Bucky, including newbies Black Panther and Tony's new pet project, Spider-Man.  Steve knows he's gonna need help of his own, so he a crew consisting of some other avengers + ant man.  So naturally, everyone meets at an airport in Germany. Big fight, big fun. Things stop being fun and Natasha helps Steve and Bucky escape. the rest of Steve's crew gets tossed into underwater super prison jail  Tony eventually realizes Bucky was framed and finds Steve and Bucky in Siberia to call a temporary truce. But then Zemo reveals the footage from 1991 showing that Bucky murdered Tony's parents . And Steve knew. Ohhhhhhh SNAP.  Tony takes that information about as well as you'd expect. Tony fights Steve and Bucky, Bucky loses his robot arm, Steve fights Tony hard an departs with Bucky, leaving his shield behind, and Zemo is like mission accomplished. But then T'Challa shows up and arrests him.  Steve then breaks everyone out of the underwater prison,  and Bucky heads to Wakanda to be frozen until someone can deprogram his murder brain.
