Bad boy Thanos gets an infinity stone, the Power Stone. His play is to get all six Infinity Stones and wipe out half of all life in the universe.  His first stop is the ship carrying the surviving people of Asgard. Thanos easily overwhelms the remaining Asgardians, beats up Hulk, and steals the Space Stone from Loki's Tesseract. He then kills Loki. Thanos then destroys the ship and continues his hunt. Edris Elba helps make sure that Hulk returns to earth, where he crashes through the New York Sanctum. Back as Bruce, He warns Doctor Stephen Strange and Wong that Thanos is coming.  Tony Stark joins the conversation. Before he can call Steve Rogers to get the band back together, they attack the city to claim the Time Stone from Strange. Spider-Man is pulled into the chaos, and after they captures Strange aboard his spaceship, Stark and Peter Parker secretly hitch a ride into space to rescue him while Wong remains behind to defend the Sanctum. Meanwhile, the Guardians of the Galaxy answer a distress signal and save Thor floating in space. They agree they need to work together to stop Thanos. But they're too late. Thanos already possesses the Reality Stone and uses its power to manipulate everything around them. He captures Gamora after learning she knows the location of the Soul Stone. Desperate to save her adopted sister Nebula from torture, Gamora tells him where the stone is .  When they get there, the keeper of the Soul Stone, one Red Skull, reveals the price required to obtain it: the sacrifice of someone truly loved. In one of the film's most tragic moments, Thanos throws Gamora to her death, earning the Soul Stone. Vision and Wanda are ambushed in Scotland by Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive, who attempt to rip the Mind Stone from Vision's forehead. Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon arrive just in time to save them, bringing the wounded Vision back to the Avengers Compound. Vision urges Wanda to destroy the Mind Stone and kill him if necessary to stop Thanos, but she cannot bring herself to do it. Instead, the team heads to Wakanda, believing Shuri may be able to safely remove the stone without sacrificing Vision's life. Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange end up on Titan and come face to face with Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis and they realize they're in the same team.  Using the Time Stone, Strange studies millions of possible futures and discovers only one path where they succeed. Together they execute an elaborate plan to restrain Thanos and remove the Infinity Gauntlet. For a moment, it almost works—until Nebula reveals that Gamora is dead. Overcome with grief and rage, Star-Lord attacks Thanos, ruining the team's hold on him. Thanos breaks free, defeats everyone, and nearly kills Iron Man. To save Tony's life, Doctor Strange willingly surrenders the Time Stone, despite knowing how dangerous it is. In Wakanda, the Avengers prepare for an all-out invasion from Thanos's army. Bruce Banner, unable to transform into Hulk, enters battle wearing the Hulkbuster armor. The tide finally turns when Thor arrives in spectacular fashion alongside Rocket and Groot, tearing through Thanos's army with his fresh new hammer/ax combo, Stormbreaker. Despite their efforts, Thanos himself eventually reaches Vision. Wanda heartbreakingly destroys the Mind Stone—and Vision with it—just before Thanos can claim it. But using the Time Stone, Thanos reverses time, restores Vision briefly to life, and violently tears the stone from his forehead, killing him again. With all six Infinity Stones finally united, the Infinity Gauntlet is complete. [School of Movies 2026] The main event Electric State episode was recorded at the start of the year with Willow, a powder-keg, ready to go thermonuclear. We decided to include it in MA.I. as it is absolutely thematically relevent. What we have here is an adaptation of a haunting 2018 art book by Simon Stålenhag depicting an alternate 1997 where mankind has slowly descended into an advertising-plastered corporate Matrix. A teenage girl and her robot companion travel America while she recounts their story in dreamlike prose, accompanied by unsettling imagery of people who have become trapped in Virtual reality while mechanical behemoths stalk the land. The 2025 Netflix version is the most repugnant, empty $320m blockbuster bastardisation of elegant art we have ever seen, and it is all the worse coming from directors the Russo Brothers, Marcus & McFeely, the superstar writing team that made the MCU great, the legendary Alan Silvestri composing, even Jeffrey Ford, the editor of Captain America: The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier and Civil War and Iron Man 3, AND The Avengers, and Age of Ultron and Infinity War and Endgame. Basically almost everyone at the top of the production team is coming back for Doomsday and Secret Wars. What the hell happened? Following that nightmare we have Ron's Gone Wrong, a much more compassionate little 2021 animated movie about another kid with another robot, but this one takes the opposite approach of highlighting how frighteningly easy it is to become trapped by 24/7 performative self-presentation on Social Media. Nowhere near enough people saw it, and we're hoping to get a few of you to change that. By that same token, absolutely everyone is advised to watch the criminally underseen gem that concludes MA.I. next week... Companion. The Curious Archive video: The Breathtaking Horror of The Electric State There is a much better adaptation of Stålenhag's art that we are currently watching; a streaming monoseries named Tales from the Loop (2020). You know the avengers: Captain America , black widow , falcon, and Wanda. The classics. It does not go well.  After another bad mission,  The UN comes in and says they want to put the Avengers under government control with something called the Sokovia Accords.. Tony who shows up to this meeting, feeling guilty about creating Ultron, is like “yeah maybe we should have supervision.” Steve, meanwhile, is like “I actually trust myself more than literally any government on earth.” Uh oh, I smell a civil war!  We see a guy named Zemo kill Bucky's old Hydra handler and steal the magic words book that turns Bucky into a murder robot.  Meanwhile, at the big UN meeting, a bomb goes off and kills the king of Wakanda. Security footage makes it look like Bucky did it. The kings son, T'Challa, is very much on the case.  Steve decides he's gonna go get Bucky himself despite the fact that he could get arrested in the process. He and Sam track him down and try to talk to him, where things immediately turn into a whole mess. T'Challa shows up to kill Bucky, and it leads to a massive chase which ends in everyone getting arrested because you can't just do whatever you want anymore.  They bring in a psychiatrist to evaluate Bucky but it's actually Zemo. Bucky goes nuts but Zemo escapes.  Steve is able to save Bucky from the water and  Bucky comes back to himself. He explains that Zemo framed him and is heading to Siberia, where Hydra supposedly has a bunch more Winter Soldiers ready to rock n roll.  Tony & Natasha decide they need to form a little group to stop Steve & Bucky, including newbies Black Panther and Tony's new pet project, Spider-Man.  Steve knows he's gonna need help of his own, so he a crew consisting of some other avengers + ant man.  So naturally, everyone meets at an airport in Germany. Big fight, big fun. Things stop being fun and Natasha helps Steve and Bucky escape. the rest of Steve's crew gets tossed into underwater super prison jail  Tony eventually realizes Bucky was framed and finds Steve and Bucky in Siberia to call a temporary truce. But then Zemo reveals the footage from 1991 showing that Bucky murdered Tony's parents . And Steve knew. Ohhhhhhh SNAP.  Tony takes that information about as well as you'd expect. Tony fights Steve and Bucky, Bucky loses his robot arm, Steve fights Tony hard an departs with Bucky, leaving his shield behind, and Zemo is like mission accomplished. But then T'Challa shows up and arrests him.  Steve then breaks everyone out of the underwater prison,  and Bucky heads to Wakanda to be frozen until someone can deprogram his murder brain. Speaking of teases, sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that Marvel plans to show four different Doomsday teaser trailers that will play in front of Avatar: Fire & Ash. Last week we speculated about what Scarlett Johansson's role might be in The Batman II…and didn't have to wait long to find out! Prominent leaker The InSneider reported Johansson will be cast as Gilda Dent, wife of Harvey Dent or Two-Face. It is also reported the studio is looking around to cast Harvey and his father, Christopher Dent, though this is all unconfirmed by DC Studios at this time. Hunger Games fans, rejoice! Peeta and Katniss return, as Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to return to the Hunger Games prequel film, Sunrise on the Reaping. While no details are truly known, with the movie focusing on other characters and a different time period, it looks likely that these two will appear in a flash forward or something of that nature. This second prequel film releases next year on November 20.Rob and Michele Reiner both died this week tragically. Rob Reiner directed countless memorable films such as The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal, and The American President plus so many more.Sony is moving forward with a third installment of the 28 Years Later franchise. Cillian Murphy is in talks to return to star after kicking off the franchise more than 20 years ago with 28 Days Later. Franchise writer Alex Garland is working on the script.Zootopia 2 crossed the $1 billion dollar global box office mark this weekend, the fastest for any PG film in history.Less than two weeks after it was revealed that Paramount had partnered with Blumhouse-Atomic Monster on a reboot of Paranormal Activity, The Hollywood Reporter has learned the project is now landing a director: rising Canadian filmmaker Ian Tuason.Lucas FIlm has announced a handful of upcoming Star Wars projects over the last few days including two video games, one an RPG titled The Fate of the Old Republic, and another a racing game titled Star Wars: Galactic Racer. In addition, a five issue miniseries focusing on Darth Maul will also kick off in March of next year and will serve as a prequel to the upcoming Darth Maul TV series. The Oscar-winning director is still working on the horror thriller, which has yet to begin filming and remains shrouded in secrecy beyond Peele's previous comment that it could be his favorite movie if he makes it right.Paramount has signed a deal with gaming company Activision to develop a live action Call of Duty film.
