Three very different 2026 releases, one shared question: what does modern genre filmmaking actually produce anymore? Amazon's The Bluff, directed by Frank E. Flowers and produced by the Russo Brothers, was built as a global star vehicle for Priyanka Chopra—an efficient pirate revenge story designed for streaming scale. Netflix countered with War Machine, Patrick Hughes' $80M military sci-fi spectacle starring Alan Ritchson, originally intended for theaters but ultimately optimized for worldwide engagement, pulling Predator-style structure into algorithm-friendly action. And then there's Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die—Gore Verbinski's first film in nearly a decade, a long-gestating, director-driven sci-fi comedy led by Sam Rockwell, released theatrically and drawing attention as a rare original swing in a franchise-heavy market. Together, these films sparked conversation not just about content, but about process—three models of development, distribution, and authorship colliding in real time.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

This Netflix original film was co-written, co-produced & directed by Patrick Hughes. It stars Alan Ritchson, Dennis Quaid, Esai Morales, Stephan James & Jai Courtney. In this film, a team of Army Rangers are sent on a Black Ops mission to rescue an Army pilot but the mission takes an unexpected turn when a meteor strikes the surrounding area and a massive robot emerges and begins attacking the convoy. This film was shot primarily in Australia and hit theaters exclusively there February 12th, 2026 before landing on Netflix on March 6th.
This week on Exploding Cars, Singing Nuns and Quipping Killers:Greg and Joe tackle 2017's The Hitman's Bodyguard, a movie that asks the age-old question: What if Deadpool and Nick Fury had to road trip together while everyone tried to kill them?Ryan Reynolds plays Michael Bryce, a once-elite bodyguard whose life has fallen apart, and Samuel L. Jackson is Darius Kincaid, a legendary hitman who needs to testify at The Hague. The twist? They hate each other. The bigger twist? They have to work together to survive.Directed by Patrick Hughes (who clearly loves explosions and banter in equal measure), this movie delivers high-octane action sequences, absurd comic timing, and Salma Hayek absolutely stealing every scene she's in as Kincaid's imprisoned wife who might be more dangerous than both of them combined. Is it ridiculous? Absolutely. Is it self-aware? Painfully so.Does it feature Samuel L. Jacks on singing "I Will Always Love You" while driving a boat through Amsterdam? You're darn right it does.Greg and Joe buckle up, check their routes, and discover that sometimes the best protection is a good offense (and a lot of swearing). As with every episode, this is the conversation that needed to happen about this movie. Wonder Media Network - an award winning female-founded, audio-first creative podcast studio - and iHeartPodcasts, the No.1 podcast publisher globally according to Podtrac, have launched "Divine Intervention," a 10-episode narrative podcast, fifteen years in the making. Host Brendan Patrick Hughes delves into one of the most tumultuous periods in the history of the Catholic Church, the United States and the personal lives of ten revolutionaries. Fifty years ago, a ragtag band of radical nuns in combat boots, wild-haired priests and their madcap friends swiftly became accomplished cat burglars in a hellbent effort to sabotage a war. They did everything they could to destroy the war machine - they scaled walls, picked locks, hid in broom closets and broke into federal draft boards, stealing the files of the young men about to be sent into combat. They napalmed these files in city squares. They shredded them at press conferences, harbored draft fugitives in church sanctuaries, and traded blows with J. Edgar Hoover's FBI. Many went to jail, others betrayed their friends, and some fell in love. "Working on this project for so many years meant that I was able to capture a lot of important voices that have since left us, like Howard Zinn," said Hughes. "This has been a decades-long labor of love about the people I grew up with - outlandish and fiercely political Boston Irish Catholics out to save the world." In Portland, parents filed a lawsuit against the Portland Association of Teachers for over $100 million, citing a November 2023 strike that led to nearly a month of school closures for 44,000 students. The suit claims the strike was illegal under Oregon law, which limits strikes to mandatory bargaining subjects. Parents allege severe disruptions to their children's education and well-being, seeking compensation and legal measures to prevent future occurrences. The lawsuit was initiated by attorneys Patrick Hughes and Daniel Suhr, known for their significant legal battles in Supreme Court cases. The complaint can be viewed here. For GLSEN's 2024 Day of Silence, the theme is "Rise Up, Take Action," encouraging students to actively fight censorship and discrimination rather than remaining silent. Critics argue this promotes activism over education. Parents are urged to review school materials for activist content. In Sherwood, Oregon, transgender high school athlete Aayden Gallagher sparked controversy by winning a girls' track event, outrunning biologically female competitors. Critics, including former NCAA champion Riley Gaines, accused adults involved of promoting unfair competition. Debate intensifies over whether biological males should compete in female sports.Contact Portland Public School's Title IX Program Manager and explain your concern with the policy:Liane O'Banion lobanion@pps.net 503-568-2646In Osseo, Minnesota, hundreds of students opted out of a school lesson on LGBTQIA+ history and culture, following the school board's progressive "LGBTQIA+ History and Culture Resolution." The community has shown significant pushback against the resolution, which includes recognizing Pride Month and supporting gender-affirming practices. Critics, including the group 279 Parents United, argue the curriculum represents political indoctrination, prompting widespread student opt-outs and parental protests.Affiliate Shoutout: Name: Cami Strasser Affiliate City: Grangeville, IdahoBio: Cami became an affiliate for Parents' Rights In Education because she wants K-12 schools to get back to teaching the basics: reading, writing, and math. Directed by Brendan Patrick Hughes, THE METAL DETECTOR follows Georg, an Austrian retiree who hunts for history amidst the hill surrounding his home. As a child, his mother claims to have witnessed a crash of an Allied B-17 during the Second World War and Georg spends his days with his simple metal detector, searching for fragments of a bygone era. As he researches the American crewmembers onboard, he reaches out to their descendants and invites them to his home to remember the 75th anniversary of the crash. However, digging up the past involves more than assembling artifacts and, suddenly, the families begin to unpack the challenges they faced within their own home as result of the war. In this 1on1, we speak to Hughes about digging up the past and the effects of trauma on 'normal people'.

A new report - released today - by the National Opportunity Project shows hundreds of millions of dollars in federal Covid relief intended for disadvantaged students has failed to reach them. The first-of-its-kind report, which relied on public records requests, research, and direct communication with state education officials in all 50 states, found that at least $736 million across 27 states has been or is at risk of being diverted away from the country's youngest and most at-risk students. In many cases, these funds are instead being used by governors on pet projects having little to do with education. Here are just a few examples of where these K-12 funds are being spent (for a comprehensive list, click here): Alaska gave $1.2 million toward a program that uses the video game Minecraft to teach coding.Oregon gave $1.6 million to “Moonshot for Equity,” a multi-year initiative aimed at “eliminating equity barriers” in several state colleges.West Virginia used $600,000 for awards to 12 public schools that won a statewide “I Got Vaxxed!” competition. Patrick Hughes, president and founder of the National Opportunity Project: “The fact that we found at least $736 million in federal funding that has not reached our K-12 schools is alarming. It should not be used by governors for grants on special projects when young and low-income students are months or even years behind in learning. We are working to get the remaining federal funding to the independent, private, and religious school students Congress intended to reach.”
Patrick Hughes— President & Founder of the National Opportunity Project—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the release of a report which shows that disadvantaged students didn't receive $736 million in federal COVID-19 aid that had been earmarked for them by Congress. You can read more about the report here: https://www.nationalopportunity.org/eans-report/
