Sharlene Hector is playing Grace / Alice in Standing at the Sky's Edge at the Gillian Lyne Theatre. Originally written as a love letter to Sheffield, Standing at the Sky's Edge has transferred to the West End following triumphant runs at the National Theatre and  Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The show is directed by Robert Hastie, featuring songs by Richard Hawley and book by Chris Bush.Sharlene previously worked in music before transitioning into theatre. She made her West End debut as Lorraine in Hairspray at the London Coliseum, also covering and playing Motormouth Maybelle before touring the UK and Ireland as the alternate Effie White in Dreamgirls. Most recently Sharlene played Thought 1 in the UK premiere of A Strange Loop at the Barbican Centre. In the music world, Sharlene was Lead Vocalist in Basement Jaxx and Blonde. When Isabella "Machine" Summers met Florence Welch in the mid-2000s, they formed a deep connection that led very quickly to writing music together. One of the first songs they wrote was Florence + The Machine's hit single “Dog Days Are Over”. At the time Isabella was busy building her skills as a producer, having grown up loving hip-hop and experimenting with turntables and samplers. She was also raised around art and film, which makes sense of her recent move into composing for films and TV shows like Little Fires Everywhere and Physical. In addition, Isabella has written with artists like LP, Sam Sparro and Iggy Azalea. We talk about it all in this interview, from Isabella's upbringing in the UK to forming Florence + The Machine, from her songwriting to her move into film and TV scoring.

Izzy and I crossed paths many years ago when he was playing for a band called Happy Body Slow Brain and then later when he was playing with Taking Back Sunday. He is a self taught genius of a musician who has spent a ton of time learning how to interface with computers as a means of performance and composition. A few years back he moved to LA and fully transitioned out of being in his own bands and into being more of a gun for hire player when he landed a gig as Seal's music director/backing band. Since then he's gone on to work as a player, producer or music director with an eclectic group of artists ranging from Banks, Harry Hudson, Sam Sparro, The Night Game, Glass Jaw and others. I love talking with people like Izzy because he is a perfect example of someone making their own rules and blazing their own path.  We talk about shifting from a life on the road to being more studio bound, focusing on technology and how to interact with it creatively, memes and humor as a means of connection, healing trauma through therapy and self reflection, psychedelic experiences and more. His self-titled first record hinted at the 80s, his second record ‘Return To Paradise’ was late 70s disco flavoured and his latest record ‘Boombox Eternal’ is a homage to the new jack swing era. Sam always brings something fresh to everything he does and his voice is exceptional, the man can sing!
