Episode 96 - The Redemption Episode ft. Sea Otter Recap, Tire Talk, and More What up party people. Let's just address the giant elephant in the room from the jump. Last weeks audio straight up sucked. I know it, you know it, and apparently every beer binging, cat loving internet troll also knows it too. Look, I did the best I could to try and salvage the entire episode while working with corrupted files but lesson learned, now I know to just scrap it rather than put out a dumpster fire episode like that again. Anyways, I had more time to work with yet another set of jank ass files this week so I'm coining this the redemption episode because after days of editing I was able to revive the final cut back to our usual standards (which fortunately that bar is already pretty low). We are actively seeking a replacement for myself so I can better spend my time and alleviate myself from all the hate mail and death threats from y'all hooligans (okay luckily there weren't any actual death threats but damn it sure felt like it at times). SO if you're listening and you think you have the skills to be a top notch producer and want to throw your application in the hat, you've got until end of day Sunday to drop us a note. We're looking to hire someone stat. Let's see, what else. Oh yeah, the episode. We've got Sea Otter recap, tire talk, and more coming right up. If you have any questions or feedback for the show you can drop us a note at bonkbrospodcast@gmail.com or you can holla at ya boys on the Bonk Bros insta (@bonkbros @dylanjawnson @adamsaban6 @tylerclouti @raddaddizzle @scottmcgilljr). The conversation shifts to a discussion about a recent gravel race, with a focus on the performance of different riders and the quality of their tires. They also talk about the results of the race and the performance of the hosts. The conversation ends with a brief mention of live coverage of the race and the release of a podcast episode. The conversation revolves around the lack of live coverage and accurate race results in the cycling industry. The hosts discuss the frustration of not being able to follow races in real-time and the unreliable nature of race results on platforms like Athlinks. They also touch on topics like VO2 max testing, the performance of different athletes in the Seattle Classic race, and the trade show aspect of the event. The conversation ends with a discussion about tire choices for gravel racing. The conversation covers various topics including bike weights, Sea Otter tech, prize money in cycling, and listener feedback on audio quality. In the latest of our Euros preview specials, John has THREE guests on the one show as he is joined by Hampden Announcer Graeme Easton, Sky Sports News reporter Charles Paterson, and Scotland fan Neil Doherty, who has written a book based on Scotland's last major tournament adventure. We start by reviewing Scotland's 2-2 draw with Netherlands in the first of two pre-tournament warm up matches. The consensus is that Scotland could take many positives from the performance and why we can go into the tournament with no fear. Naturally, this leads us to thinking about the last Euro's we played at in Euro '96 and some of our earliest memories watching Scotland at a major finals, and why there is a belief that this crop can go one better than their sides of the past by reaching the knockout phases. Neil then tells us about his book, "World Cup 1998: Scotland's story", where he got the inspiration from, the research he put in and how deep he went into writing the story. He also gives an insight into going about producing a self-published book and tips he received before it went on sale. Neil's book can be bought from Amazon and comes highly recommended (from John at least, who's bought it and read most of it so far). Next up, Graeme tells us about his role at Hampden during the finals, what to expect from a playlist point of view and if his Croatian/Czech phrases are up to scratch. Charles then gives an insight into what we can expect from Sky Sports News during the Finals. We round off with a round of quick fire questions including best Scotland playlist songs, Scotland kits and a 6 a-side Scotland team, before playing out with Scott McGill's new song "Whatever It Takes", which is available to download with all proceeds going to Strathcarron Hospice. Did you hear the one about the Welshman, the Englishman and the Scotsman walking onto a Podcast? In the first of our preview specials for this summers delayed Euro 2020 Finals, John spoke to men from media outlets of the three home nations in the tournament to assess their chances of progression. First up was Ian Mitchellmore of Wales Online. Ian purrs over his nation's incredible run to the Euro 2016 Semi Finals five years ago, including that memorable Quarter Final win over Belgium largely thanks to a sublime goal from Hal Robson-Kanu. He then talks through the job that Ryan Giggs and Robert Page have done to get the team to this summer's finals and their chances in a tough group containing Italy, Switzerland and Turkey. The recording was done prior to the announcement that Giggs won't be at the Euro's due to his recent assault charges. Ian is also hoping to be going to the Finals as part of his role so fingers crossed all works out for him. Next up, we had Sky Sports commentator Gary Taphouse to get an English perspective. Gary was more than happy to reminisce on Euro '96 and how close England got to winning a first international tournament in, at that point, 30 years. He then assesses the squad and where Gareth Southgate's side can be dangerous with the attacking midfield options in particular. The banter is good when we discuss Group D, where England and Scotland meet in the second game, and cover the fact that most England supporters don't mind seeing us Scots do well even if the feeling is not reciprocated by ourselves. Although he thinks England can do well, there was no "England Expects" noises from this English commentator. Last, but not least, award winning Scottish Daily Mail writer Stephen McGowan gives his thoughts on the Scots chances of progression. We too recall that night that Scotland finally ended 23 years of pain by beating Serbia on penalties. Whilst most of us were in our living rooms, Stephen was one of a lucky five journalists who had seats in Belgrade to cover that memorable night. The conversation goes onto reflecting on our last finals appearance at France '98, and why it's taken 23 years to qualify again before we discuss the chances of making more history by reaching the knockout phase for the first time. Like most, Stephen is just happy that we're at a major finals again. We hope you enjoy our unique angle in our first Euro 2020 preview. Big thank you to Ian Crocker for the introduction and to Scott McGill for the outro track. The conversation moves onto Ross's love for Rangers and going through the highs and lows of following the club, from the treble under Alex McLeish to the failure of Paul Le Guen, from the Road to Manchester to the new beginnings at Peterhead. After a testing few years, Ross has lots to be pleased about as he discusses why Rangers are champions-elect this season and previews tomorrows Europa League clash with Antwerp. As well as following Rangers, Ross is a big Scotland fan, and we cover off his love for the National team and hopes for both the upcoming Euro's and the World Cup Qualifying campaign for Qatar next year. We round off with the usual slowfire questions, including a combined Rangers and Scotland best XI. Intro and outro music courtesy of Scott McGill. Almost wiped out centuries ago by fur trappers, beavers have made a comeback in North America, including the Mid-Atlantic and the Chesapeake Region. While many see them as a nuisance -- slayers of trees, builders of dams that flood roads and farm land -- biologists and natural resource managers see good in the beaver comeback. Their dams create rich habitat for other mammals and fish while filtering sediment and damaging nutrients from waters that flow to the Chesapeake Bay.On the show:- Frances Backhouse, a Canadian writer and author of, ----Once They Were Hats: In Search of the Mighty Beaver.----- Mike Callahan, founder of the Beaver Institute who has resolved more than 1400 conflicts between beavers and humans.- Scott McGill, founder and CEO of Ecotone, a Maryland-based ecological restoration company that is bullish on the beaver as a benefit to the environment.
