Luke is the Founder of Website Rental Coaching (WRC), a digital agency that trains people in the rank and rent online business model. The goal is to give them greater control over their work/life balance and create wealth. WRC's program has financially empowered clients across various professions by educating them on SEO, lead generation, and client sourcing. While several have earned passive incomes to match and replace their 9-5 salaries, many earn thousands each month as a side hustle. Over the past decade, Luke has built 100+ rank and rent websites that organically generate tens of thousands of high-quality business leads every month across 73 niches and 48 states in the US. Businesses that rent these sites have been able to automate customer acquisition and eliminate advertising costs while increasing their rate of growth and expansion. Luke has also been able to branch out to acquire local businesses, to which he applies his lead generation expertise to scale them for a big exit later. In 2023, he notably purchased Mr. Ding-A-Ling for $1.7M, raising the ice cream company's valuation to $2.2M in just a few months. Luke's journey as a digital landlord started with his own search for financial autonomy as an unfulfilled 9-5er in the corporate world. He set about using his digital know-how and, in just six months, built an SEO-powered portfolio that generated high revenues. On the podcast, Luke would love to talk about: - How is the education system designed to keep people working instead of creating wealth? - How website rental works and why it is worthwhile to build a solid passive income. - Key methods and strategies to optimize the rank and rent model to generate leads for any business. Quick recap Summary Discussing SEO, AI, and Business Experiences Michael and Luke had a productive discussion about their recent schedule changes and upcoming topics for discussion. Michael, a specialist in SEO and AI, expressed his interest in learning more about Luke's business, particularly its website rental side. Luke was invited to share his experiences and thoughts on SEO and AI, and Michael emphasized the importance of referencing relevant information during the conversation. They agreed to proceed with a planned discussion about the current state of SEO and AI. Burnout, Corporate Jobs, and Alternatives Luke and Michael discussed their experiences with burnout in corporate jobs and their decisions to quit and pursue passive income. They also talked about their observations of the issues inherent in traditional corporate environments, such as lack of control, inflexibility, and focusing on short-term gains at the expense of long-term sustainability. They agreed that individuals should prioritize their well-being and consider alternative working methods for more autonomy and flexibility. Michael and Luke's Journeys in SEO and Website Design Michael and Luke discussed their journeys into SEO and website design. Michael shared his view on the ongoing relevance of websites and SEO, emphasizing their importance for businesses to be found. Luke shared that his motivation for starting his own business was to create a flexible income and have more control over his time. After trying various models, he landed on SEO and built an agency. However, he found that owning the sites was limiting, so he switched to renting digital spaces online, giving him more control and independence. Frustration With Unrealistic Client Demands Michael used the analogy of going to a restaurant to describe a situation where clients have unrealistic demands, causing unnecessary stress for the service providers. He expressed frustration with those who order complex modifications, likening it to his harrowing experiences with his family's breakfast orders. He emphasized the importance of simplicity to avoid confusion and ensure satisfaction. Search Engine Rankings and Website Reliability Michael emphasized the importance of having a website that ranks high on search engines like Google, noting that a well-designed website is only helpful with good rankings. He highlighted the need for regular updates and the use of platforms that keep websites up-to-date. Luke concurred that people rarely look beyond the first few search engine results. Michael also shared his experience with various browsers and how some websites can become unavailable due to changes, underscoring the need for a reliable platform to avoid such issues. Outsourcing Tasks for Business Growth Michael and Luke discussed the benefits of outsourcing specific business tasks to focus on growing the business. Michael emphasized that outsourcing tasks, such as dry cleaning, allowed more time and resources to be directed toward revenue-generating activities. Luke agreed, stating his focus is on assisting business owners who are proactive in their approach to growth and seek to outsource tasks that are not their strengths. Both underscored the importance of investing in development and focusing on passive, low-maintenance tasks to maximize results. Maximizing Efficiency and Profitability Through Niches Luke and Michael discussed the importance of focusing on specific areas within their business to maximize efficiency and profitability. They agreed that choosing the right niches can lead to significant returns without wasting time, allowing companies to concentrate on their core functions. Luke shared his experience with a successful initiative he worked on, indicating that such opportunities are becoming more saturated. However, he believed that the potential rewards justify the investment when considering the revenue generation potential. Potential Partnership and Maximizing Efficiency Luke and Michael discussed a potential partnership with mutual benefits. Luke proposed providing capital for the venture in exchange for a significant share of its profits, which Michael found tempting due to the potential for passive income and exploring a new niche. They both appreciated the importance of time and the value of learning from others to maximize efficiency and profits.

A: Well, first of all, I've lived on the other side of the table as the client for years running an eCommerce business. So I've been an entrepreneur. I've been the guy fighting budgets and figuring out how to do things. Tweetable Takeaways from this Episode: “The algorithm is moving fast. The whole idea of just having a staged set of deliverables to do SEO, that's very, as that song goes, 2008.” -Jason CimentClick To TweetTranscript (Note, this was transcribed using a transcription software and may not reflect the exact words used in the podcast) Tom Poland 00:10 Welcome, everyone, to another edition of Marketing the Invisible. My name is Tom Poland beaming out to you from little Castaways Beach in Queensland, Australia, joined today by Jason Ciment. Jason, good day! Sir, a very warm welcome. Where are you based? Jason Ciment 00:23 I am in Los Angeles, California. Good to meet you! Tom Poland 00:25 It's great to have you here. For those of you who don't know Jason, he's formerly an attorney and CPA, which is pretty amazing in and of itself, double degrees. He runs a digital marketing agency out of Phoenix and Los Angeles that focuses on SEO. For those of you that don't know, that's Search Engine Optimization, so how to get found easily on Google, organically. Also, social media marketing and web design for WordPress and eCommerce powered websites. The title today, folks, you're going to learn, “How to Get Search Engine Rankings Without Spending a Dime”. Jason's going to share with us how to do that in just seven minutes. Jason, sir, our seven minutes starts now. Question number one, who is your ideal client? Jason Ciment 01:03 Someone who values their time at $300 or more per hour is my ideal client. Tom Poland 01:09 Perfect! Thank you. Question number two is what is the problem you solve for that $300 an hour or more person? Jason Ciment 01:15 So it's to help them understand that no matter how much they try, they're not going to be as good as our team at getting them ranked on Google or Bing. So the first step in our traffic solution is to get them rankings on the search engines. Tom Poland 01:30 Perfect. Thank you. So they can get found, get visible and get traffic and get conversions. Jason Ciment 01:36 Exactly. Tom Poland 01:37 Question number three, we've got just under six and a half minutes left. What are some of the typical symptoms that people who need your service, before they get the service, they're going to be experiencing? What's going on in their business? What are their frustrations? How do they know they need you? Jason Ciment 01:50 Well, first of all, if they go to Google and type in the search, and they see their competition beating them, that's the first sign they have a problem. Tom Poland 01:57 Yeah. Jason Ciment 01:58 The second thing may be that just from a reputational standpoint, not necessarily just the lead if they want to own certain phrases, and they're walking in, and they're trying to compete in a conversation, having a top-ranking helps build their credibility as a leader in the industry. Tom Poland 02:15 Perfect. Thank you, sir. So question number four, what are some of the common mistakes that people make in trying to get found on the internet before they find your solution? Five and a half minutes left. Jason Ciment 02:26 Right. So the first thing is they tried to do it themselves, which almost, remember, if my ideal client is the $300 or more per hour earner, they shouldn't be spending time doing SEO. The arbitrage is just too amazing for them. But the most common mistake is thinking that they understand SEO because they're using tactics that they read about years ago. And they think, “Okay, I gotta get keywords. I got to get some rank, some backlinks to my site.” And they just don't understand that the algorithm has 3000 ranking factors. The algorithm is moving fast. The whole idea of just having a staged set of deliverables to do SEO, that's very, as that song goes, 2008. Tom Poland 03:09 Amen to that! I've learned that from experience. You got to have an expert looking at this stuff, folks. You can't expect to do SEO yourself. So let's talk about- let's flip on to question number four with four and a half minutes left. Plenty of time! One valuable free action. Well, it's like a top tip. They're gonna need you to solve this problem, but what might be a step that'll take them in the right direction? Jason Ciment 03:30 So there's one idea, it's called an “expert roll-up”, or a “leaderboard” is another way of understanding it, which gives you the power of two for one action. So if let's say, you find 10 people in your Rolodex that are good referral sources, or they add to the credibility because you're part of the conversation that they're having online. If you approach the 10 of them with a question, ask them to give you an answer, you can create an article. If they give you a video answer, you can create a video out of that. And you can put together an article that you're not only posting on your website, but you're distributing it to those 10 people who will redistribute it to their own audiences and their own social channels. So you're getting, potentially, a backlink, credibility, and exposure all from what takes, maybe, two hours. Tom Poland 04:22 Very, very clever! Scalable solution. So question number five, thank you for that, sir. Question six, I should say, where can people go to find out more about how to do all this and how to reach out to you as well. A valuable free resource, three and a half minutes left. Jason Ciment 04:36 So I wrote this book, “I Need More Clients” a couple of years back. So if they go to the website for our company called Get Visible, they go to getvisible.com/buy-the-book/, buy-the-book. They can, first of all, sign up for my newsletter which is very unique and peculiar. And in one sense it's about marketing, but really, it's about gaming the system. It's almost like you wrote in the 1970s about taking on the man. So we're taking on the dollar bill. How do we stretch that dollar and compete against the big gorillas? So there's always something in my newsletter that is- it's a- what do you call it? A life hack on business. So on top of it, if you email me through that, I can send you a copy of the book. You don't even have to buy it on Amazon, I'll send it to you personally. Tom Poland 05:24 So, folks, go to getvisible.com/buy-the-book/. Sign up for the newsletter. Get the book or email Jason, and you'll get a free copy. Thanks for that, sir. We've got two minutes left, so plenty of time for the last question, which is, what's the one question I should have asked you but didn't? Jason Ciment 05:45 I think the question we get asked the most in a service business, and maybe you get it as well, is “What makes you different or better than people who do what you do?” Because people try to commoditize service providers all the time, and they forget, like in the car business, you can get from here to there, but do you want to drive a Hugo? Or do you want to drive a Mercedes? Or do you want to drive a Tesla? So it's not just a means to an end. The means are very important. So in regard to what we do, why do we think we're different? Well, first of all, I've lived on the other side of the table as the client for years running an eCommerce business. So I've been an entrepreneur. I've been the guy fighting budgets and figuring out how to do things. So I say what we've tried to do is create transparency in the business. So instead of giving a black box and saying pay us five grand a month, we lay out the details about what's involved, how much for the content, how much for spending efforts to acquire backlinks, how much to do what we call correlation analysis. So I think the difference is more about attitude and relationship and about skills because a lot of people have the skills but do they really know how to apply those skills that your budget level is? That's another aspect of it. So hopefully that answers your question. Tom Poland 06:59 Does indeed. Jason, thank you so much for your time and your advice. Jason Ciment 07:03 Thank you. Learn what are the best digital marketing strategies that can guarantee an up in your search engine rank while spending lesser money and time: getvisible.com/buy-the-book/ Summary Do you often feel like your business isn't gaining much traction and visibility online? Have you been struggling to look for a digital marketing strategy that would best fit your business online? Are you ready to find out the power of search engine optimization for a lesser expense and lesser time? Jason Ciment was, formerly, an attorney and CPA. He runs a digital marketing agency out of Phoenix and Los Angeles that focuses on SEO, Social Media Marketing and Web Design for WordPress and eCommerce powered websites. In this episode, Jason talks about how SEO will guarantee you more clients, more views, and more profit for your business online at a low expense and lesser time. He also shares what are the common mistakes when it comes to starting and handling SEO that you should be avoiding. Check out these episode highlights: 01:03 - Jason's ideal client: “Someone who values their time at $300 or more per hour is my ideal client.” 01:15 - Problem Jason helps solve: “So it's to help them understand that no matter how much they try, they're not going to be as good as our team at getting them ranked on Google or Bing. So the first step in our traffic solution is to get them rankings on the search engines.” 01:50 - Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Jason: “Well, first of all, if they go to Google and type in the search, and they see their competition beating them, that's the first sign they have a problem.” 02:26 - Common mistakes that people make before they find Jason's solution: “So the first thing is they tried to do it themselves, which almost, remember, if my ideal client is the $300 or more per hour earner, they shouldn't be spending time doing SEO. The arbitrage is just too amazing for them.” 03:30 - Jason's Valuable Free Action (VFA): “ So there's one idea, it's called an "expert roll-up", or a "leaderboard" is another way of understanding it, which gives you the power of two for one action. So if, let's say you, find 10 people in your Rolodex that are good referral sources, or they add to the credibility because you're part of the conversation that they're having online.” 04:36 - Jason's Valuable Free Resource (VFR): Check out Jason's Book: getvisible.com/buy-the-book/ 05:45 - Q: What makes you different or better than people who do what you do? A: Well, first of all, I've lived on the other side of the table as the client for years running an eCommerce business. So I've been an entrepreneur. I've been the guy fighting budgets and figuring out how to do things. Tweetable Takeaways from this Episode: “The algorithm is moving fast. The whole idea of just having a staged set of deliverables to do SEO, that's very, as that song goes, 2008.” -Jason CimentClick To Tweet Transcript (Note, this was transcribed using a transcription software and may not reflect the exact words used in the podcast) Tom Poland 00:10 Welcome, everyone, to another edition of Marketing the Invisible. Peace be with you, A:R Nation! I hope that this episode finds you well and enjoying your day! One reason why I'm pushing into digital marketing is because of all the fun experiments I run to see how to get more traffic. In this episode, I wanted to share with you a tactic that will get you better search engine rankings WITHOUT you having to create new content, or spend more money! What's this unicorn of a tactic? REFRESH YOUR OLD CONTENT! Yep, it's that simple. While there is no definitive guide or checklist that identifies specific elements that improve search engine ranking, recency of content is DEFINITELY a search signal. If you're like me, you don't want to spend a huge amount of money paid ads, and you don't want to spend a lot of energy on always coming up with new ideas for content. So one surefire way to improve your website's ranking is to refresh and update your content. I have been doing this once a year for a few years now and it's such a great way to get more traffic without having to do much. Just head to your website, comb through content you've released, and update! Just like fashion - REPURPOSE THE STUFF YOU ALREADY HAVE! While you're in there updating the content, use an app like Hemmingway to help with the readability of your piece, as well as any number of keyword tools to integrate the right keywords into your content! This is a no-brainer for anyone that has a website and pushes out content. If you take this on, I'd love to know what results you experience, so email me at podcast@adulthoodrevisited.com. How To Increase Search Engine Rankings (SEO) In A Crowded Market [Episode #25]

Small Marketing Teams

Sit still. Did you feel that? That is the traditional SEO ground shifting beneath your feet. The way that your company gets ranked on the first page of Google or Bing has significantly changed in the past 2-4 years. Are you seeing it? I started to notice it about a year before I sold my company in 2017. We had relied on creating the best, most useful content in our industry to get found and generate leads (mainly via organic search traffic). I saw firsthand how tactics and pillar SEO practices that worked a few years ago are no longer as effective. Companies with larger budgets were dumping content into the market. It took longer for our blog posts to get ranked. Search, as a percentage of our traffic, plateaued. In this episode, I’m going to reveal how small marketing teams can compete in this new SEO world. SEO Is Not A One-Size-Fits-All Game The first thing you need to know is that SEO is different in different markets. Your market exists on a spectrum. On one end, you have low-density markets where there is little digital content being published. On the other end, you have very crowded markets, like marketing, where thousands of new content assets, like blog posts, infographics, videos, and podcasts, are being published daily. What Matters Most To Increase Search Engine Rankings Let’s be clear about one thing. Regardless of where your business falls on this spectrum, you still need to produce the best, most compelling and helpful content in your market. Next, identify where your industry falls on the spectrum. Are you in a crowded market or are few companies taking advantage of digital channels (this is very rare these days)? If you are in a less dense market, you can still focus on the technical on-page aspects of SEO to get ranked. Marketers love this because it is very much within their control. As you move across the spectrum, things get a little more complicated. The technical side of SEO still matters, but it alone won’t get you on the first few SERPs (search engine results pages). So, what is the major driver in SEO for crowded markets? The answer is your relationships and reputation. You need to get people to link to your articles from their blog posts and other digital publications. Getting people to link to your resource involves: Nurturing Relationships Outreach Persuasion Persistence Rejection In my experience, most marketers hate this part. They like pulling the levers behind the scenes to drive traffic and bring in leads. This key SEO skill resembles more of a sales role and that is not what most digital marketers signed up for. How To Get Ranked In Search Engines In a Crowded Market Since you are most likely in an increasingly competitive market, I want to share three simple tips for improving your search engine ranking. Warning: While three steps sound simple, following the advice below actually takes a lot of time, skills, and effort. You are not going to get it right the first few times you work this system. Three SEO Tips For Boosting Your Search Engine Ranking in a Crowded Market Step 1) Create better, more comprehensive and helpful content than everyone else out there. This involves research into what is ranking today and what is being shared. Step 2) Leverage your relationships, reputation, and quality of your content to get people to share and link to your blog. Step 3) Take care of the basics, like your on-page SEO. Like most digital marketing tactics, search engine marketing is changing.  One of my favorite ways for small marketing teams to leapfrog their competition is to recognize these shifts sooner and make adjustments to capture more traffic, leads, and market share.

Chris wants to know what my opinion is on the new domain extensions, whether he should purchase one, or just stick with the more traditional domain extensions such as .co.uk or .com.I definitely do have an opinion on this, Chris, but I make it clear that this is my opinion and not necessarily the correct answer, but I will give good reasons for my opinion.MY ISSUE WITH THE NEW DOMAIN EXTENSIONSYes, a number of domain extensions such as .plumber, .enterprises, .photography have been released in the last couple of months and whilst I don’t think it’s a big issue in and of itself, I personally think that they have released too many all at once. The other issue is one of memorability. If you’re John Bailey the plumber and you live in the UK, someone who has heard of you might go looking for John Bailey dot com, or they might even go to John Bailey dot co.uk if they know John lives in England. However, if you’re not familiar with these new extensions, it can be confusing, especially since they’ve released so many … some of them as obscure as .kitchen, .bar, .menu and even .wtf! Don’t believe me! Go check it out at names.co.uk.Whilst I don’t use expletives, I threw in the last one as an example of how silly these extensions have become and so you have to consider the trust factor before you purchase.WILL THE DOMAIN EXTENSION AFFECT MY SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS?This is an interesting one, but I’m going to say that choosing your domain name extension has less to do with Google or the other search engines recognising you and more to do with whether your prospects are going to find you.Even with an obscure domain name extension, you could get to the top of the search engine rankings with some good SEO and visibility tactics and I also think that one of the reasons for the release of these new extensions has something to do with:local marketingsemantic searchLOCAL MARKETINGGoogle have made it easier lately for local businesses to get more visibility online by focusing on local search. Local domain extensions such as region specific, or even plumber might benefit those local businesses if marketed well. It also means they can have the keyword in their domain name.WHAT ABOUT SEMANTIC SEARCH?Now, though I mentioned having keywords in the domain name, these new extensions are not a licence to keyword stuff, though I do think that with the development of semantic search, having non traditional domain name extensions won’t matter. Why?Because being found online is getting to be more about credibility, trust and authority, rather than how good you are at manipulating the search engines for better results. Here’s a definition of semantic search from Techopedia that will give you a little more understanding of why keywords in a domain name is not as big a deal as it once was …Semantic search is a data searching technique in a which a search query aims to not only find keywords, but to determine the intent and contextual meaning of the the words a person is using for search.Semantic search provides more meaningful search results by evaluating and understanding the search phrase and finding the most relevant results in a website, database or any other data repository. And if you want an introduction to Semantic Search, I recommend this video by David Amerland.JUST STICK TO DOT COM?I think so.Where possible, I would say, “just stick to .com.” because there are so many of these extensions, they will never be as popular and as I said earlier, they just create more confusion than anything in my view.Even the .co extensions

Pinterest20 Facebook 0 Twitter 0 LinkedIn WhatsApp 20Shares Have you ever seen a “Not Secured” notification in front of a website URL on the address bar? What was your first thought when you saw that? If you are anything like me, you would have asked yourselves if you really want to click through to the website. Isn’t it? Now imagine if it was your website. A little while back, Google came out with an update that emphasized the need to provide a clean and secure experience to users. That was the first notification to websites to start looking at options to enhance the security of their website. Then in 2014, they announced HTTPS as a ranking signal. And then began the race. Who doesn’t want their Search engine rankings and that too on Google, to stay intact? There started the frenzy to get SSL Certificates for their websites and marketers quickly went onto get their websites HTTPS compliant. But was it really necessary? Does HTTPS help in Search Engine Rankings? One of the common questions that most bloggers have is “does SSL Certificates help in search engine rankings?”. Neil patel did a study and gathered some data that indeed proved that installing an SSL certificate could help you in your search engine results, albeit in a minor way. His study was done a little while back. And since that time there has been a few more significant changes. Browsers like Chrome and Firefox started shaming websites that were not HTTPS, by showing a “Not Secure” tag in the address bar. In this time, the impact that HTTPS has on search engine rankings have also increased. Some studies have indeed shown So what is this HTTPS thing all about? What is HTTPS? HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure and its main benefit is that it provides a secure connection to users on those pages where they share personal data. And in order for this to happen, you need to install an SSL certificate (Secure Socket Layer certificate). Its a protocol that HTTPS uses. In layman’s terms, it means that HTTPS encrpts the secured information that is exchanged between a web server and a browser, thereby keeping such information safe. This means that you website will be considered as a trustworthy one by people using it. Once you have installed an SSL certificate, browsers like Firefox and Chrome will show a security padlock in green, which basically proves that your website is trustworthy and secure. But what are the benefits of an SSL Certificate? Benefits of installing an SSL Certificate If you are an internet marketer or, Blogger, I am sure your business depends on your trustworthiness. Chris Dayley from Disruptive Advertising is an expert when it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and conversion optimization. Many SEO agencies are short sighted and simply look for a "trick" to provide their clients, such as ranking them in Google. However, Chris and his agency like to make data-driven decisions. A "great" looking website is an essential ingredient, but they also run A/B tests, think about what the customer is expecting to see on the page, improve load time, and use the data from heatmapping software (HotJar) to change navigation. Additionally, Chris says that every website needs to have: a value proposition (identified by the audience), a call-to-action (that they can identify in 2-3 steps), content (watch how much they're consuming), clarity/conciseness/readability, removal of all diversions/distractions (such as banner ads), and handling any anxiety people have when visiting that website.
