What's true and what's not about content duplication and SEO? Mordy Oberstein, Head of SEO Branding, and Crystal Carter, Head of SEO Communication at Wix, discuss duplicate content truths, legends, and falsehoods on this episode of the SERPs Up SEO Podcast. Unbeknownst to many, there is no such thing as a duplicate content penalty. Google is more likely to just not index duplicate content rather than punish an entire website. It's pretty common for large websites to have duplicate or near duplicate content. In addition, many websites, especially news websites, syndicate their content to other domains. With proper attribution, Google can recognize the syndication and potentially serve up both without relying on a no-index. Listen in as the duo dispel these content duplication myths and more! Barry Adams of Polemic Digital stops by to share when to worry and when not to worry about duplicate content from an SEO point of view.

Canonical URLs let search engines know which version of the web pages on your website should be treated as the authoritative ones. Essentially this helps with avoiding duplicate content issues and consolidating link signals.A simple solution could be the application of Noindex Tags to pages you don't want to be indexed, however, issues with duplicate content vary and should be handled differently.Connect with me !Clubhouse @augustinekiamaJoin TMP exclusive on www.tmp.supercast.techSubscribe to the TMP newsletter and learn more about Marketing on www.themarketingpodcast.liveYou can find me on social media @kiamaugustineRate, Review & Subscribe to support the Podcast.Thank you for tuning in !Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! In addition to getting black listed by the search engines, you might get sued for copyright infringement if you’ve plagiarized any of your content. It seems like there are new SEO and link building strategies popping up every day that promise to increase traffic and profits in no time flat. But before we go ahead and employ these 9 really bad ideas, let’s take a moment to ponder the long-term implications: You could be banned from the search engines or even worse—get sued! In the past, search engines only looked at keywords to determine relevance. But since search algorithms have evolved, they now look at other factors as well. For example, if you try to target a keyword like "gambling" but your website is about social media marketing then the search engine will know that this is an irrelevant keyword for you and drop your rank accordingly. To avoid being penalized by Google's latest ranking algorithm update, it's crucial not to use words on your site that don't pertain to its topic of focus; otherwise, you might be dropped from higher rankings. Irrelevant Keywords Search engines know when a page contains irrelevant keywords because the subjects will be mismatched. For example, a social media marketing website containing gambling keywords will not seem right to search engines. The only place where gambling keywords will make sense is on sites with content like addiction recovery or typical casino games. Keyword Stuffing Keyword stuffing is not a side dish at Thanksgiving. It’s a black hat tactic that involves stuffing a bunch of keywords and phrases into one webpage or article. If you are practicing keyword stuffing, then you are probably using irrelevant keywords as well. In the past, this practice tricked the search engines into giving weight to stuffed pages based on all the keywords present. However, today, it does nothing more than confuse users browsing for relevant information, which in turn leads to lower rankings and higher bounce rates for websites trying to rank high in Google’s SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). Article Spinning Article spinning should get the award for the worst black hat SEO tactic in existence. This is when you take an article and feed it into an automated system that replaces adjectives with synonyms and reorders your sentences to create a new article that appears unique. Unfortunately, spun articles almost always appear to be written by someone with poor grammar. That’s the nature of automating this process! Clickbait Clickbait is a problem for media organizations that want to have an honest relationship with their readers. Some of the worst clickbait comes in the form of misleading images attached to stories posted to social media. For instance, you might see a preview image of your favorite actor with a title that reads, “These Celebrities Didn’t Age Well.” When you click on the link, you won’t find any mention whatsoever about your favorite actor from this article. The only reason they were used was because they are famous and would attract attention to the story and get people clicking through just so they can be disappointed when nothing happens at all on their end. Duplicate Content Duplicate content is exactly what it sounds like, when a site publishes the same content on more than one page. However, while Google has confirmed there's no duplicate content penalty, sites are penalized for publishing duplicate content. Put simply, if you publish three webpages with the same article and Google finds out about it - they'll only display one of your pages in their search results. March 8, 2021 by Caitie Schoch Duplicate content is not a new subject. In fact, marketers have talked about it for more than a decade. But it still haunts those who don't know how to handle or manage it. So, here's a question: Do you have duplicate content? With everything else you have to worry about, we hate to add another potential issue onto the already toppling pile of things you need to monitor. Still, this one can do some damage if you're not aware. That's why we're going to talk about what duplicate content is, why it's a problem, and how to avoid duplicate content on your site. Let's get started…
This week: a new report highlights threats to WordPress websites, Google makes an important announcement about Core Web Vitals, and Instagram makes it easier for you to recover from a mistake. Here’s what happened this week in digital marketing!

SEO Brisbane tip to finish off the week. And it's about duplicate content. So if there's a one piece of duplicate content on your website, so that's content that either in whole or mostly matches the content on another page in your website, then that's not going to be detrimental to you. Google will just pick one or the other, as the relevant page. If there's a lot of those instances of duplicate content on your website, then it will be detrimental to you. So be mindful of that. That you don't have duplicate content. There are services on the internet that can check for duplicate content on your website for you. So it's an easy way to find out where it is, and tidy it up. So make sure that you don't have duplicate content on your website.
DEBUNK SEO MYTHS AND LEARN PROPER SEO WITH LAURENT BOURRELLY & DIXON JONES
On a very basic level, your website is safe. Negative Attacks with blasts of shady backlinks will most likely not work. However, the Duplicate Content algorithmic flaw has never been fixed. I was part of the Search Hackers Team which put it out (search for DarkSeoTeam). You can stil do some damage on a URL level to take it down by duplicating it non stop and boosting the duplicated URLs. Then, you have the most evil of them all : building a very strong backlink, then removing it a few months later. The target page will not recover. By the way, Negative SEO is mostly effective on a URL level. Taking down an entire site, without going on the hacking side of things, is not really possible. To protect your website, make it stronger. Increase PageRank, Authority, Trust, Notoriety, Popularity,... The more powerful your site, the less likely Negative SEO will work against you.
