Prophecy Radio episode #102 jumps into Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan, discussing the first three chapters in detail. We also break down the latest Rick Riordan news, including updates on Survivor season 45, the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes, the Mark of Athena graphic novel, and more. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:23) Happy birthday to Leah Jeffries, who turned 14 on September 25! Roseanne A. Brown is stepping away from Twitter and will primarily be on Instagram. The Mark of Athena graphic novel is officially on sale! Khadijah Khatib has created new covers for the UK edition of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Did you pick up a Barnes & Noble exclusive edition of Chalice of the Gods? Check to see if any pages are missing! We give you a couple of small updates about the sequel(!) to Chalice of the Gods. Introducing Kristen's Korner! She gives us an awesome update about the Survivor season 45 premiere, starring J. Maya! Kristen also talks about the latest updates for the strikes. The writers are officially back to work! You can read about the agreement here. Adam Conover has a great summary of what they won. It's important to note that SAG-AFTRA is still striking, so we can't talk about the show just yet. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:26:40) This week, we're talking about Chalice of the Gods chapters 1-3. Let's kick it off with chapter 1, where Percy can't go a single day without getting mixed up with the Greek gods. We are OBSESSED with the first line of the book. If you were worried about this not feeling like Percy Jackson…it was all in vain! Percy just wants to go to school and do his homework and not have to worry about all this other stuff!! That being said, thank goodness for Alternative High School. It's New Rome University (and Annabeth) or DEATH! We're still fascinated by how the Mist works. The biggest twist of this chapter is that Eudora was actually trying to be helpful. Now we know where the blue jolly ranchers came from. What is a psychoeducational evaluation?? Percy is SO annoyed he has to do NEW quests for the gods. We really want to know more about other demigod schools around the country or the world. Was Eudora more scared of Poseidon or Percy? How was Poseidon eavesdropping on their conversation?? In Chalice of the Gods chapter 2, Percy visits Poseidon, who “helps” him with his recommendation letters. Poseidon's Private Plumbing System™ is classic Rick Riordan. Percy has some pretty eclectic friends. Percy is in debt…life debt. All these rules and stipulations are a little ridiculous, if you ask us. Will Nico have to go through all of this if he wants to get into NRU? Would Thalia, if she ever leaves the Hunters? Will Percy Jackson ever reach 18 years old? We could totally see Percy being a part of Camp Half-Blood even as an adult. What would a second-gen demigod be like, and could we ever get a story about that? Let's talk about Chalice of the Gods chapter 3 because… …PERCABETH IS BACK!!! We loved how Annabeth immediately volunteered to help with Percy's quests. Is it true that Percy never really wanted to date anyone else? Percabeth reminds us of Rick and Becky, and it makes us so happy! THEIR PULSES ALIGN WHEN THEY HOLD HANDS. Is something going on with Annabeth at her school? Annabeth and Paul being BFFs is amazing, and we loved every second. Percy is so reflective and introspective in this book. Kristen reminds Karen that we do not trumpet…we panflute! Grover no longer wears pants. Was Luke not able to transition into the real world? We have SO many good ideas for future Percy Jackson books. Percy's love of family dinner hit us both pretty hard. Sally Jackson is about to be a published author!! How amazing would it be if we got a standalone novel following Grover as the Lord of the Wild?? Feedback (01:29:58) Rachel writes in to give us some feedback about the first three chapters of Chalice of the Gods. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 103, in which we'll discuss the Chicago stop of the Chalice of the Gods book tour before tackling chapters 4 and 5 of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:0:00 - Intro1. 2:14 {“My Yoke is Easy” vs. “Take Up Your Cross”?} I’m confused about why Jesus says “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden” but then instructs us to pick up our cross (of suffering?) and follow Him. That sounds like a heavy burden to me, to try to love and obey Jesus perfectly.2. 11:46 {Trusting God’s Will for our Loved Ones} We are supposed to trust God with all our hearts. But what does it look like to trust God with the free will decisions of others, like our adult children?3. 16:51 {Pastors Teaching Dream Interpretation?} What is your take on Christian pastors practicing and teaching dream interpretation using dream dictionaries, Google, and their own reasoning to interpret?4. 20:11 {Was Christianity Made Up to Control People?} What do you say to a skeptic that thinks Christianity is just a man-made thing created as a means to control people?5. 24:20 {Is Monarchy Unbiblical?} I’ve been thinking about this question a lot since Queen Elizabeth died last month, but I’ve had it for a while. Does 1 Samuel 8:6-7 teach that monarchy is unbiblical?6. 29:49 {Does Satan Think He’ll Win in the End?} How can Satan, an angel much smarter than us, be so unwise as to oppose an all-powerful God? Does Satan think he stands a chance of winning in the end?7. 35:39 {Should Israel be Referred To as Palestine?} Why do you refer to biblical Israel as Palestine when Palestine wasn’t even a country until about 135 B.C.?8. 39:00 {Should I Date a Hyper-Charismatic?} I've been on a few dates with a great girl, but I've realized she's in a church that over emphasizes prophecy, tongues, possibly NAR things. Any advice on how to approach this?9. 42:33 {How Could Jesus have been “Perfected”?} Hebrews 5:9 says Jesus was "perfected" when He became the author of salvation to those who obey Him. How can an already perfect Jesus be “perfected”?10. 46:00 {Does God fill the role of Heavenly Father AND Mother?} My 7 year old asked me why we need an earthly father AND mother, but only a Heavenly Father? I started to say God fills both roles, but was hesitant about that in this gender-confused culture.11. 50:11 {Overcoming Difficult & Serious Sins} Do believers eventually overcome big sins like lust? What if we don't before we die? Does that mean we were never saved?12. 54:40 {Knowing God’s Plan for our Career} How do you know what job/career God wants you to pursue?13. 57:50 {Are Only Men Called to Sacrificially Love?} Can you explain how Ephesians 5:25 is a particularly masculine command? Many verses including John 15:12-13 call ALL believers to love one another sacrificially.14. 1:00:59 {Did Luke Journey With Paul?} I have studied Acts verse-by-verse and I have noticed that in some parts the writer uses “we” and “us” (Chapter 28 for example). Was Luke with Paul on his missionary journeys?15. 1:02:03 {Codex Vaticanus vs. Modern Bibles?} If the Codex Vaticanus is the oldest Bible, how much does it differ from modern Bibles, if at all?16. 1:06:00 {Overcoming a Fear of the Dark} How can I overcome a fear of the dark? Ever since I was young until now (I’m 25 years old), it’s hard for me to fall asleep every night because I’m scared that there might be something evil watching me sleeping.17. 1:09:40 {Does This Verse Justify False Teaching?} How should we understand 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5,14, 3:18-19? Ray Comfort quoted this to say Bible stories are supposed to sound dumb! Can't this be quoted to justify any dumb-sounding false teaching?18. 1:14:50 {Why didn’t JTB’s Followers just Follow Jesus?} Why did John the Baptist still have disciples after he clearly pointed out Jesus? Shouldn't they have followed Jesus?19. 1:18:18 {We

Back in episode 11 Luke Grenfell-Shaw was passionate about encouraging others to control how they live each day after he had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at the age of 24. When we last chatted, the keen age group triathlete was just setting out on his Bristol to Beijing adventure, on Chris his tandem, to show what can be achieved when living with cancer. 2.5 years later after cycling 30,000km and raising £300,000 for charity, Luke is back on the podcast. China was closed due to Covid, so Luke actually finished his ride in Bristol, after cycling the final 3,000km on a stationary bike at different locations around London for a month. This is one special listen. You'll hear: 08:30 Luke's initial thoughts on completing his Bristol to Beijing expedition in the UK, rather than in China. "It was like a wedding, without getting married. But it felt like I was cycling from Bath to Bristol, ie I wasn't cycling to Beijing." Luke admits he would still like to complete the China leg of the adventure. It was important for me to take control and do what I could and by doing that I know I will have set out what I wanted to do and I will have done myself proud. 11:30 We talk about the aims of Luke's expedition. Part of it was to complete a dream that I have had since I was 15, which was to cycle around the world. One thing that this journey became is an expression of what you can do with cancer. There was an amazing opportunity to share this journey with other people with cancer. But really we all only have one life so are you going to do the things that really matter and how are you going to face the challenges that you face along the way? 15:30 Luke talks about the different UK and national charities he was supporting and how 17 year old Dev ended up on the back of Chris, Luke's tandem, in India. 20:50 We hear about how heavy 'Chris' is and how difficult Chris can be to manoeuvre and the time the brakes went coming down a hill in Kyrgystan. 27:30 Luke thinks he was 'lucky' to have had some of the experiences he has had. But he also talks about the support he has had from others, for example how he managed to get permission to cycle through 8 countries that had closed their borders due to Covid. We chat about the impact that Covid had on his expedition. 32:30 Luke talks about his time in Ukraine and what he saw in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYu6i15LIeY (Mariupol). 35:00 Was Luke's own health and cancer on his mind much during the ride? "When I started the ride, I didn't expect to finish it. This isn't the sort of cancer that you survive." At the beginning of the ride, my mum wasn't expecting me to get to Beijing. In the very early days of the ride, I had aches in my shoulder. I thought it had come back. I thought it was all going to be over before it started. That's how present it was, that's how real it as at the beginning. 38:00 Luke talks about the scans he had during his expedition. "Each time I thought this is it, this could be over" 44:30 Luke explains how passionate he is about getting his message across about living life, sharing his message. We talk about if he thinks he is the same. "Some things are, some things aren't. The thing that is the same is the core belief of mine that every day should be worth living. For me, I have to ask the question, if I were to die tomorrow, would I be happy with how I have lived today." 50:30 Something I have spent a lot of time thinking about recently is how do my beliefs sit alongside what everyone else is doing? In the past I think I have probably been judgemental of others. It's really important to do stuff for the right reasons. 55:30 What one thing would Luke like the money he has raised to do? I credit being active and my mindset as the number one thing as to why I am here to do, so I would love the way that Doctors see exercise as a necessary part of treatment changing. 1:01:30 Luke talks about his book and a documentary and...

Tobi hat sich daraufhin schnell verdünnisiert, denn er sah sich als einer der Innocents. Und was macht Luke? Legt sich den rosa aufblasbaren Penis an und feiert mit Jasmin, Gina und Anna einfach einen JGA. Sachen gibt's. Und danach treffen sich beide auf ihrer Heimkinocouch, und Tobi bittet Luke: See for me! Was Luke aber falsch versteht und fragt: Marry Me? We've taken the past two weeks off releasing episodes to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. We're back to releasing episodes this week, but our work is not over. Stay involved in this fight, we will be doing so now and forever. This is lifelong work.  https://blacklivesmatter.com/It happens to even the best of couples, both fictional and non: breakups. This episode we’re covering BOTH of Luke and Lorelai’s big splits and what we learn from each of them. We’re here to DISSECT. What caused these breakups? Were they avoidable? First we’ll chat about BREAKUP #1, which we affectionately call the “Princess and the Pauper” breakup. Christopher Hayden played a big part of this breakup. Do you have to tell your partner every time you see an ex? Is that unnecessary drama?Speaking of unnecessary drama, Emily Gilmore essentially orchestrated this first breakup. Is someone’s crazy or meddling family a good enough reason to end a relationship? We get into some real talk about their engagement, what it means for their relationship, and why we feel so weird about it. Then we talk some 'SHIP about a one miss APRIL NARDINI and how she waltzes into Stars Hollow and ruins everything (just kidding...kind of). Then regarding BREAKUP #2....can you recover from keeping a secret as large as a ~surprise daughter~? Was Luke justified in wanting to take some time to get to know April on his own? Was Lorelai justified in giving him an ultimatum? Ultimately, Lorelai does some sabotaging at the end of this relationship. Why does she do this? Why do we do this as human beings? We’re gonna talk ‘ship about it all… tune in!You can find Megan on Instagram and Twitter  @onlymegan815 and Katie on Instagram @katie_bud and Twitter/Tik Tok @katiebuderwitz Cover art by Emily Rowan www.emily-rowan.com (@emrowan)Theme music by Chris Meissner (@chris_meissner)

AMOS 3-4:As I said about Amos yesterday, he was wise in his methods. He condemned Syria, the Philistines, Tyre, Edom, Ammon, and Moab before coming around to Judah and finally the northern kingdom, Israel. We also heard some of the wonderful word pictures Amos used. ISAIAH 45:22-46.Remember that in the last chapter Cyrus’ name was repeatedly mentioned. God’s motivation for making such bold predictions is clear: Is. 45:19 NLT I publicly proclaim bold promises.I do not whisper obscurities in some dark corner.I would not have told the people of Israel to seek meif I could not be found. I particularly like those lines. Some of the prophets the world now looks to do indeed utter obscurities and purposefully choose to keep their followers in the dark. And God refutes the contention that he is hard to find, that he has left the world and doesn’t care about humans or pay attention to us. Bear that in mind as we start today at chapter 45, verse 22. 2nd JOHN:I wish we knew if Timothy made it to Rome in time to see Paul before he died. Was Luke still there? Paul needed that warm coat as winter was approaching. And he wanted the parchment papers in particular, which were probably Old Testament Scripture. That was happening around AD 67. Things were even even worse for Christians around AD 90 when John wrote the two little letters of 2nd and 3rd John. 2nd John is written to the ‘chosen lady’, but this is a euphemism or a code word for a church. The ‘children’ of the ‘lady’ are the church members. We find several echoes from the book of 1st John in these two letters. Mears points out four basic beliefs that John keeps coming back to, which are visible in these two little letters also: *We must believe that Christ came ‘in the flesh’, meaning, with a real human body. *At the same time we must believe that Christ is deity, that is, fully God. *We must believe that “God is love.” This is both a major characteristic of God and the way followers of Christ must live. *We must believe that Christ is our Savior. The only way to have eternal life is to know Christ personally— not just know information about Him. Welcome back to the only Star Wars podcast that will not let this Republic that has stood for a thousand years be split in two! We're joined again by Jay Bartlett, as well as super-collector Paul Van Dyk. to discuss the recent reports about the standalone films being "put on hold" and the rampant toxicity running through the community. Media sensationalism and hateful ignorance are sending seismic ripples across the galaxy far, far away, and we felt it was necessary to tackle these contentious issues head-on.We talk about some heavy topics like fan entitlement, the negative impact of social media, and hateful reactions to the actors themselves. But we were also drawn irrevocably back to the positive sides as well - like the ups and downs of collecting and the many different ways we can enjoy the franchise. We even discuss a way to perceive the different "universes" of Star Wars in one way, inspired by J.J. Abrams' Star Trek films. Was Luke really more successful in Legends? How has the classic battle between Star Wars and Star Trek changed over the decades? In this episode we explore the idea that the pursuit of perfection is actually unattainable and can lead to feelings of shame.  Was Luke a perfectionist? How did seeking perfection actually lead to his feelings of shame and isolation on Ahch-To?  Did Luke expect perfection from himself and how did this affect his relationship with Ben Solo?  Would Han Solo actually have been a better mentor for Ben Solo?  How did the Jedi projection of perfection affect Luke's perception of the Order, and did that pursuit of perfection actually contribute to the Jedi downfall?  We begin the episode with a comics update. Also, Alan forgets he was on our previous episode, Mark remembers fondly his favorite hammer, and Ryder does NOT talk about his favorite TV shows. All of this and much, much more on this episode of Idiot's Array. We would be honored if you would join us!  Contact us! Originally Recorded - November 20th 2016 This episode picks up right where we left off last time, talking about. a great. many. thiiings. Among those being a possible "alternate" ending to The Force Awakens (don't get too excited), Was Luke in The Force Awakens or was that Mark Hamill's contract?, a Cloud City Administrator in Han's clothing, tears after The Empire Struck Back?, Star Trek: First...Fourth Wall Busting Nemesis?, practical CGI, Grey Sloan Memorial: Nexus of the Universe?, Terminator(s), Superman(s) and friends “Oh!...He caught ‘er!”, a change of pacing & kids today with their fiendishly quick eyes, Sherlock's geo-helio-(ec)centric universe, Jerry's gripe-mourning Firefly’s untimely death, Rogue One predictions (Yes, this is an older recording, sire, but it checks out - things will be up to date soon), and a very insightful Mark Hamill “quote”. Note/Apology: The TFA scene the numbskulls referenced but failed to properly identify is the one where 2 stormtroopers scramble to avoid Kylo Ren’s temper tantrum - post Rey’s escape. Great job, guys.  Stevisms include: Realizing the gender of Lando Calrissian.

STAR WARS + SANGRIA = FUN TIMES, you guys. Major fun times. This week's episode features both of us venturing into SPACE!!! Did the force "awaken' in Krissy the first time she finally saw 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' or did she fall asleep...yet again? Why is Kylo Ren so upset? If you're on a desert island, which Star Wars newb would you rather have as your co-island partner - Rey, Finn or Poe? What are the multiple uses of BB8 beyond friendship & "beep boops?" Do we care who Rey's parents are? And what WAS Luke's deal at the end? Plus - we imagine getting 'The Last Starfighter' treatment! Is the movie basically one of our biopics? Did we have more fun hanging with Alpha Alex or Beta Alex? Wouldn't you rather go off pseudo-Delorean'ing with the Music Man? It's all very boozy and adult and rated R!

In this engaging new book, author and historian Paul Thomas Smith has created my Christmas pick of the year--a text that is comfortingly familiar, yet filled with the bits of history and insight a life-long scholar can add to the narrative to make it vivid and alive in our minds and hearts; a book families and students of the scriptures can enjoy for years to come.  And the illustrations drawn from the religious paintings of Carl Bloch are the perfect accompaniment to the text throughout. Why were shepherds despised in New Testament times?  Was there really no rooster that crowed three times for Peter?  Was Luke wrong about the census?  Listen as the author discusses all of this and more. That's this week on The Cricket and Seagull...
