Congratulations to Justin the Intern and his fiancée Laura on the birth of their baby boy Zachary! While Justin is having a baby, Jason Lam takes over introduction honors.   Within a month, tides have turned and Covid-19 (Delta variant) is back.   The "normalcy" we discussed last month is no more.  Shonali attended her first super spreader event and Christian has a new nickname "Big Man!"  Everyone PLEASUHHHHH get vaccinated!  We are excited to talk to Helen Nwosu!  We met Helen at a mutual friend's dance birthday party just after we were fully vaccinated and thought we could be "normally" social again.  We were taken by her energy, humor and intellect.   Helen left a long standing career in fashion to start her own non-profit called Science Couture and it's "chief mission is to help consumers and fashion brands contribute to a more sustainable fashion system."  We also discuss upstate living;  youth activism; The Olympics - sexist double standard fashion, the athlete's' stories which pull at your heartstrings, the metal scoreboard & nationalism. Most importantly Helen gives us a rundown what we can do as consumers to align with sustainability in fashion! Christian promises to break fashion rules & wear a white bikini after Labor Day.  You heard it here first. Christian comes to us from his mother's bedroom in Chicago.  While he describes his time there, he gets shushed by his mom because he is LOUD!  We introduce our brand new segment Game Changers with a heavy metal jingle by Jason Lam. Shonali, Jason & Christian share very personal stories involving each of them learning a small lesson which forever change their life.  In this episode, we cover how to open a plastic bag in the produce department, how to get through YouTube videos more quickly, and how to use Google Maps while walking...DUH!   Oooh, it's also noteworthy that the words "culottes" and "gauchos" are used on WDEK for the first time in this episode.  Special shout out to the U.S. Capitol Police who offered  devastating and compelling testimony during the House Investigation Hearing on the Jan. 6 th Insurrection! They include Sgt. Aquilino Gonell, Officer Michael Fanone, Officer Daniel Hodges, and Capitol Police Pfc. Harry Dunn.  Surprise guest Justin The Intern stops by Shonali's WDEK studio (her apartment) to take a shower as his baby was born (the day before) in the hospital across the street and he has not left his wife's side which is the right thing to do. Notice here how Justin's baby's hair is exactly like his (courtesy of Jason Lam.)  Special note - Christian only got shushed twice by his mother during the show, or was it three times?  Christian let us know.

Before we start the conversation, let us give you a little context: about a month ago, in January 2021, Funraise CEO and Co-founder, Justin Wheeler, put up a relatively controversial post on his LinkedIn page talking about the 100% model. Specifically, he wrote, "This won't be popular, but the 100% model charities adopt is broken. At best, it makes a donor feel good about giving to you.At worst, it perpetuates the idea that overhead spend is bad.In reality, the reason why nonprofits that have adopted this model are growing fast is that they are spending MORE on overhead, not less."While Justin stands by that perspective, he also loves open and productive discourse between passionate people, so when Brett and the team at New Story (an awesome team, btw) responded to that post with some solid counterpoints and a suggestion that we bring the discussion here, to the Nonstop Nonprofit podcast, Justin was all about it.Normally, this is where we'd sum up the episode in a sentence or two, but today we're going to ask that you listen to Justin's conversation with Brett as they discuss his take on the 100% funding model and Brett shares why it's the foundation for New Story's team, mission, and vision. Afterward, Justin would love to hear your take on these ideas—don't be shy! Hit him up on his LinkedIn page or email him directly at justin@funraise.org and get your voice heard!

Jessica Easterly Durning had finally had enough abuse from her husband Justin and was ready to leave him. On August 12, 2019, she talked with her friend Maria, and made plans for Maria to come get her the following day. When Maria didn't hear from Jessica the following day, she assumed that Jessica had changed her mind. However, she suddenly was unable to get a hold of her friend. The day after that, Justin sent a message to Maria from Jessica's Facebook account asking if she had heard from Jessica, that he had not seen her since noon that day. While Justin was apprehensive to contact police to report his wife missing, Maria immediately took action herself, contacting police as well as Jessica's family. The following week, on August 22, Jessica's body was discovered just 2 and a half blocks from her home, badly decomposed. While she had suffered great bodily injury, the coroner to this day has her death listed as undetermined. What happened to Jessica Easterly? Did Justin murder her in a rage after finding out she intended to leave him? And why haven't authorities been taking Jessica's case seriously? This week's episode features Tulsa's own Justin Walker. While Justin has relocated to the Wichita, Kansas area in the past year, we still consider him a local legend and friend. I really enjoyed having Justin on the podcast and it was like old times when I would venture into Runner's World on a lunch break and catch up with Justin and pick his brain on ultra-running tips. This interview came on the evening after Justin had just completed a PR 50 miler and a PR 100K and FKT for the Prairie Spirit course in Kansas. Both times were amazing with the 50 mile in 7:17 and the 100K in 9:57. Not too bad for someone who had taken almost two years off from racing ultra-marathons. Justin's body and mind had been pretty beat up since he completed the TransOklahoma race, two years ago, which consisted of 511 miles in eight days. Justin has done some amazing things in his 40 years of life and looks to do as much as he can in the next 40. Before Justin became a runner, he was a severe weather meteorologist or “professional storm chaser” as we call them in these parts of the country. Justin's quest for health and ultra-running started shortly after his time at the University of Oklahoma and would lay in bed nearly sitting up due to extreme heart burn. After moving to Denver, Colorado to work in the weather center in Boulder, Dustin decided to make a change in his health. He cut out bad foods from his diet and dropped a whopping 40 pounds in 6 months. He decided to give running a go after seeing people run at the local park. Not long after Justin had become infatuated with running and would soon embrace the ultra-running life. Hop on board as Justin and I talk about all things ultra, storm chasing and life in general. This was a fun episode and makes me appreciate my friendship with him even that much more and can't wait to share with you all.

Earning Freedom: Conquering a 45-Year Prison Term, by Michael Santos Chapter 15.1 Podcast 148 / 25 minutes   Forming nonprofit, Carole becoming a registered nurse, meeting Greg Reyes, starting to write Undefeated. Epilogue: 2009-2012 Months 260-300          It’s May 20, 2009 and my friend Justin Paperny is being released from prison today.  We work well together and I’ll miss his companionship. For the past several months Justin has been joining me in a quiet room where I write each morning.  One early morning session began with an idea for launching a nonprofit organization.  Undertaking such a task would assist us in raising financial resources that we could rely upon to create products for the purpose of reducing recidivism. Our reasoning is simple, just an assessment of the facts. High-recidivism rates challenge our society in numerous ways, influencing the lives of citizens who don’t grasp how America’s commitment to mass incarceration influences their everyday lives.  Whereas taxpayers want safer communities, better schools, and better health care, those who represent the prison machine want bigger budgets.  That mindset of locking people up and throwing away the key leads to more overtime, more jobs for prison guards, and more expenditures on barbed wire fences, but it doesn’t lead to safer communities.  Rather, it diverts resources that society could use to build better schools, better hospitals, and offer more social services. People who serve time struggle to emerge with the types of values, skills, and resources that translate into success upon release.  Statistics illustrate the problem.  More than one out of every two people who serve time face continuing challenges from the criminal justice system after their release.  That rate of failure leads to enormous costs for taxpayers, depleting public resources that would be better spent on education, health care, or other social services.  I’m convinced that by working together, Justin and I can help reduce costs of recidivism and contribute to safer communities. Doing so will require financial teamwork and money for obvious reasons: neither Justin nor I can work for free.  We have to earn a living, and the nonprofit could raise resources for the purposes of paying us for services we can offer. While Justin served time with me here in Taft it wasn’t possible to advance the idea of launching a nonprofit.  After all, forming a nonprofit organization isn’t easy, especially when the principals are incarcerated.   One lesson I learned over the decades is that all worthwhile goals begin with vision, but achieving them requires persistence and commitment.  With Justin’s release, we can work together to advance this idea of launching a nonprofit.  He will do his part from outside fences, and I’ll do my part from in here.  Although I understand that we may face many challenges along the way, I’m confident that we have a unified vision with regard to what we’re trying to create, and we both will drive forward with persistence and commitment.  This work will further my goal of living a life of relevance while I serve what I expect to be my final three years. Research we’ve done to inquire on what it takes to form a nonprofit organization has given us an understanding of how to proceed.  First of all, we must persuade the Internal Revenue Service that we can provide a benefit to people in society.  If we succeed in that endeavor, the IRS will authorize the organization to raise money from philanthropic organizations, corporations, and individuals who support charitable giving.  Raising financial resources in this dismal economic climate will prove challenging, especially when the people striving to raise the money have felony convictions.  But without valid credentials from the IRS, we may not be able to raise money at all. I understand that some may question why we need to raise financial resources.  We need money because we’re working to build a sustainable operation, one that can help transform troubled lives.  Our target market will include at-risk youth and incarcerated individuals, people who cannot pay for the products we’ll create and distribute. I will undertake the responsibility of showing taxpayers the reasons why it’s in their best interest to support our cause. If we receive authorization from the IRS, we’ll work together to transform at-risk lives, empowering them to live as contributing citizens.  I’m glad Justin joined me in formulating this plan of action.  Now we must execute the plan.   *******   The fall of 2009 passes easily for me here in the Taft federal prison camp.  I’ve now served more than 22 years of my sentence.  Although I don’t know precisely when I’ll walk out, I’m feeling strong, expecting that release will come within the next three years.  I’m truly in the end game, and I’m fully aware of my responsibilities to have a plan in place for my return to society. Carole is working as a licensed vocational nurse in Los Angeles and studying microbiology in preparation to resume nursing school in January.  Nichole, her daughter, is beginning studies at Washington State University, on her way to beginning a career in nursing as well.  As far as I’m concerned, our family has triumphed over prison.  Whereas the design of this system seems uniquely structured to lead individuals and families into perpetuating cycles of failure, the strategic, disciplined plan by which we’ve lived has brought us many blessings and strengthened us.  Continuous progress keeps my spirit strong. Justin’s attorney has assured him that the nonprofit paperwork is in order, and we expect to receive authorization from the IRS to operate The Michael G. Santos Foundation by the end of this year.  Three people have accepted Justin’s invitation to serve as board members of the nonprofit, and although I don’t know those board members, their oversight provides me with a real job: working to write proposals in search of funding. Although Justin has identified many potential philanthropic organizations, and I’m writing grant requests to each of them, The California Wellness Foundation impresses me as being the most promising.  It has a multi-billion dollar endowment that is reserved for programs that enhance public safety. Julio Marcial serves as Justin’s contact at The California Wellness Foundation.  We’ve learned that Julio has a real passion for helping at-risk youth.  He knows that many of them grow up without resources or support systems in place, and few understand what steps they must take to leave the gangs and negative influences behind. As executive director of the Michael G. Santos Foundation, Justin told Julio about my journey.  He made a strong case that we could create a program to show others how to embrace the same types of strategic, deliberate paths that empowered me to tune out the noise of external influences and prepare for success. Julio wants to see more. Despite the boldness of the request, I’m writing a proposal that shows why The California Wellness Foundation should fund The Michael G. Santos Foundation with a $150,000 grant. In this economic environment, resources are scarce and we face a huge challenge because many established nonprofit organizations will compete for the same limited funds.  Still, despite my imprisonment and Justin’s recent release from imprisonment, I’m confident we can craft a winning plan. As someone who has spent more than half of his life in prison, I have strong opinions on why so many people struggle to adjust upon release.  From my perspective, although the system is very good at warehousing human beings, the system fails in preparing offenders for law-abiding, contributing lives.  Instead of encouraging offenders to work toward developing values, skills, and resources that will assist them upon release, it extinguishes hope and strives to suppress the human spirit.  I’m asking the California Wellness Foundation to provide funding so that Justin’s foundation can craft a self-directed program that shows others how to transform their lives regardless of external influences or the noise of imprisonment.  We can make a difference, but doing so will require us to confront headwinds from a system with a strong self-interest in perpetuating failure. ******* I pass through Christmas of 2009, my 23rd holiday season in prison, and into January of 2010, another new year.  I’m still counting, not quite sure how many days of prison I have ahead of me, but I know that I have 8,180 days of imprisonment behind me.  At this stage, prison doesn’t bother me in the least.  I feel focused and driven, eager to seize every opportunity that comes my way. Carole has begun studies that will last throughout the year and conclude with her board-certified credentials as a registered nurse.  It’s a big step for our family, but one that will provide Carole with a more fulfilling career, one that brings her more respect from her peers, colleagues, and community.  I’m so happy for her, so proud of her, and so grateful that I’ve had income opportunities to support her through the journey.  She is my center and I look forward to encouraging her through this year. It isn’t easy to live as the wife of a prisoner.  For Carole, the challenge was particularly difficult because she came into my life when I had more than 15 years of prison behind me and more than a decade to go.  Despite others always questioning her judgment, over the past seven years we’ve worked alongside each other, confronting repeated transfers and interferences from prison administrators to build a life of our own.  Things are much better now, and they promise to improve as we cross through year 2010. Julio Marcial has told Justin that he intends to recommend a $150,000 grant for The Michael G. Santos Foundation.  The premise is quite simple.  Through the proposal I wrote, we argued that the system does not invest resources in preparing individuals for success upon release.  It’s stated focus is to preserve security of the institution, and it doesn’t offer reentry programs until it’s too late, frequently only weeks or months before the scheduled release date.  By that time, the prisoner is lost, without resources or a support network to assist his reentry. With funding, I suggested that I could write a program that would encourage prisoners and at-risk youth to pursue a self-directed path.  I would do so by writing a series of books and workbooks that would show the precise steps I took to educate myself, contribute to society, and build a support network that would assist my transition upon release.  It was what I said I would do very early on in my term, during that uncomfortable transition between my conviction and sentencing, during that time that I fell under the tutelage of Socrates. Recipients of the literature and coursework that I intend to write will see that they have the power within to change their lives.  My job is to inspire hope, and together with Justin’s work, we’ve persuaded Julio to recommend that The California Wellness Foundation fund the vision.  That funding provides resources to pay for my work, enough to ensure that I’ll have an easier transition upon my release.  If all goes well, I’ll have $40,000 in savings to meet all of my financial expenses associated with my reentry, and another $40,000 in savings that I can draw upon to carry me through my first year of liberty.  Through my work, I’ll show other prisoners how to empower themselves in the same measurable ways. ******* It’s Saturday morning, September 11, 2010, and as I’m returning from an early morning run, I approach a new face as I return to the housing unit from the track.  More than 500 people serve time inside these boundaries, and although I don’t communicate or interact with many on a personal level, I recognize the men around me.  This new guy and I don’t exchange words, but the way he nods at me in acknowledgement communicates volumes.  That simple gesture is enough to let me know that he leads, that he’s capable of whatever he sets his mind to do, and that he is someone from whom I can learn. We’re assigned to the same housing unit.  I look forward to introducing myself and I seize the opportunity a few hours later when I see him outside on the track.  He’s taller than I am, with silver hair and olive skin.  I guess that we’re about the same age, but I suspect we’ve had very different experiences.  I know this world and I can help him understand it, but I sense that he’s from a different world that I’d like to learn more about. “Good morning,” I walk towards him.  “Care to join me for a few laps around the track?” He agrees and we begin circling the dirt oval that surrounds ball fields and tennis courts. “Believe me,” I tell him, “it gets easier than it feels right now.” He looks at me, as if trying to figure out what I’m after. “My name is Michael Santos.  I’ve been here for a while and can help you understand what you’re up against if you’re interested in a guide.” “Thanks,” he says.  “I know a little about you because my family has been reading your website.” “That’s good to hear.  I’ve been writing for the web for more than a decade but I’ve never actually seen a real webpage.  I look forward to using the Internet for the first time, but that will have to wait for a couple more years at least.” “How do you publish your stuff online from in here?” “I write everything by hand and send it to my wife.  She coordinates everything for me, typing it and then posting the content on my website.  The work gets me through the time and helps build awareness about this wretched system we’re in.  How long are you going to be with us?” “I’ve got 18 months.” “Well take a breath.  You won’t serve that long.  You’ll receive some good-time credits that will reduce the term by about three months, taking it down to about 15 months.  Depending on your personal circumstances, you may serve the final months of your term in a halfway house or home confinement.” “How do I arrange that?” “You’ll go through some administrative processing over the next couple of weeks.  Don’t push these people, the staff I mean.  Just let it evolve.  There isn’t much of anything you can do to influence events in here.  But if you let things take their course, and you don’t bother the staff with too many requests, you’ll probably be living in a halfway house a year from now.  The secret to serving that time is to make progress every day that you’re here, to work toward something that will improve your life some.” He snarls.  “Like what?  What can a guy do from inside this hellhole?” I laugh.  “It’s not that bad.  Where’re you from?” “Silicon Valley.” “What’re you, a banker or a broker?” From his diction and mannerisms, I know that he’s in here for a white-collar crime, but I don’t know what type of work he did.  He doesn’t strike me as engineer. “I was the CEO of a technology company.” “Which one?” “Brocade Communications.” I stop on the track and look at him.  “You’re Greg Reyes.” He stares back at me and I see his brow wrinkle, a cross between curiosity and ferocity, guarded, as if he doesn’t know what to make of my intentions. “I don’t mean to be intrusive, dude,” I say, “but I’ve admired your courage and strength for many years.  I read the Wall Street Journal’s coverage of your case.  When it reported on your conviction, I told my wife about you and that I hoped to meet you, to learn from you.  In fact, in some twisted way, I feel as if I willed you here.  As the years passed and you didn’t show up, I assumed that you must’ve won on appeal.” Greg relaxes with my explanation of why I’m familiar with his background.  Not only did I read the Forbes profile of him being one of America’s youngest billionaires, but I also watched his stewardship of Brocade, taking it public and steering it to a peak market valuation that once exceeded $20 billion. “I did win on appeal,” he tells me. “The appeals court reversed my conviction because the prosecution lied repeatedly through my first trial.  But the government tried me a second time.  Prosecutors told new lies that brought a second conviction.  I’m on appeal for that case as well.  Rather than wait it out, I turned myself in because I didn’t want to live with the horror of this prison sentence hanging over my head.” The national business news reports on Greg’s case frequently.  Although more than 200 CEOs in Silicon Valley authorized the practice of backdating stock options for rank-and-file employees, no one authorized those practices with any criminal intent or with a goal of self-enrichment.  There isn’t another CEO in America who serves time for the offense, and Greg expresses considerable anger at having his name dragged through the mud because of these accusations. “Why don’t you use this time to write your story,” I suggest.  “Set the record straight, explaining in your own words exactly what happened.  If you don’t do it, the only record out there is going to be the government allegations.” “Writing isn’t my strong suit.” “I’ll help you,” I urge him on.  “This is an important project.  You have to tell your story.  If you can talk about it, I can help you write it in your own words.  It would be a great project, carrying both of us through the next year.” I see him churning over the idea.  “How would you see the project unfolding?” “It’s simple.  I’ll ask you questions.  Some of the questions may seem foolish and irrelevant, but I’ll ask because I want to understand as much as you’ll share.  We’ll talk each day for several hours.  Early each morning, I’ll write out notes of what I learned.  After you’ve told me everything, I’ll outline the story, try to put some structure around it.  If I can tell it back to you, then we’ll move forward with a more formal, chapter-by-chapter interview.  I’ll write a chapter, then read it to you.  If you approve it, we’ll move on to the next one and repeat the sequence until we’ve told the entire story.” He reaches over and shakes my hand.  “Let’s do it.” *******

Amid worldwide shortages of personal protective equipment (medical PPE), someone at the UK's National Health Service reached out to the medical fetish retailer MedFetUK, hoping to find a stock of masks or scrubs. MedFetUK immediately delivered, donating their entire supply (usually sold for sex play) to a hospital. While Justin, the co-founder of the company, says it was obviously "the right thing to do," thousands on Twitter quickly gathered round to cheer the small fetish company, and also collectively wonder: What *is* a medical fetish, anyway? This week, Alli and Jen talk to Justin about the diverse world of MedFet, its roots in BDSM, the variety of equipment used in role play (including needles!), and whether the current pandemic is affecting the community. Justin Stenstrom is a nationally-acclaimed life coach, author, entrepreneur, and speaker. He is the Editor-in-Chief of EliteManMagazine.com, the founder of Elite Life Nutrition, and the host of the Elite Man Podcast, where he interviews some of the world's most successful entrepreneurs, authors, and high-achieving individuals, including guests like Robert Greene, Grant Cardone, Dr. John Gray, Bas Rutten, Wim Hof, Kevin Harrington, and many others. Once anxious, insecure, depressed, and unhappy, Justin’s overcome many of life’s greatest obstacles and loves nothing more than helping others do the same. His first book, Elite Mind, shares Justin's honest battle with anxiety and depression, and the methodical, broad search he did to uncover the tools to free himself from the grips of both of them and live a life he describes as "elite". What is his story, and what it means to live this way make up the heart of our conversation. Key Points from the Episode with Justin Stentstrom: Justin runs the extremely successful Elite Man Magazine and Podcast and a supplement business. He’s also just released his book, Elite Mind, which is about anyone facing struggles they want to overcome, but also who want to stand out, be part of the game and make things happen through self-belief. Despite the success he’s found and how sure of himself he is today, people may be surprised to learn that he faced crippling depression and anxiety earlier in his life. It was actually because of his struggles that lead to his work on mindset, confidence and dealing with mental illness. He had extreme anxiety, panic attacks, faced suicidal thoughts, became a shut in and more. As he pulled himself out of that place, he started to push the envelope in terms of not just being free of the anxiety and depression, but actually achieving greater and greater things for himself. He described his childhood as very happy, and he felt like a big fish in a small pond until going to a much larger high school and feeling lost. Junior year, he skipped class with a classmate to smoke pot. This was his trigger moment. Justin tried to look cool, and smoked a lot of it, not knowing that it was laced with PCP (most likely, though he never verified it). He started to hallucinate, seeing three of everything, and felt like he was losing his mind. That experience was the catalyst for him to go down his anxiety, panic attacks, depression and, after it kept building for weeks, thoughts of suicide. He described the situation as the building up of kindling over time, and then that experience with the laced pot was the match that sparked the fire he fell into. A few days after the episode, he came clean to his parents, who took him to a doctor who dismissed most of what Justin told him he was feeling, and prescribed an anti-anxiety medication. Justin was told to follow up with a psychiatrist, who prescribed many more medications, but didn’t really listen. While Justin isn’t against medication in specific cases for specific people, he now knows of so many other modalities at our disposal that we can try, too. Being a teenager, he did what the doctor told him, and took the pills. His father looked at all the meds, and sat Justin down to talk about trying to do the work instead of just taking pills and not trying to work on things. That advice from his father was what Justin needed to look at working on himself and figuring things out himself. I asked about the fight in Justin, and he was reminded of how he had been boxing for exercise before this, which instilled a mentality to push through. Justin sees anxiety as a sense of something bad happening in the future, and you lingering in that moment rather than the present one. Anxiety can only exist when you stay in that moment in the future rather than surrounding to living in this moment right now. For him, allowing himself to be in the present moment rather than fighting the anxiety was the key. He lets it pass through him rather than railing against it, which only gives it more power. Thinking that there’s something wrong with him, he’s doomed or any other strongly judgmental view of yourself takes your power away, so please recognize that this is normal and ok. Going and talking to someone about it is one of the best ways Justin thinks we can deal with it. Have a therapist to help you unpack the areas you are taking anxiety from, you can see them and address them. He had a friend who would not talk to someone and felt he was too cool or manly for that, and ended up taking his own life. Putting people (or yourself) down for seeing help and calling them a loser is totally wrong. Getting help is winning. We talked about the need to find a therapist you click with. Justin had met with four or five before finding the one he really connected with (though some of the others were good, too, but just not as connected as this one). He also stressed that the word ‘therapist’ doesn’t have to mean psychiatrist or psychologist. It can be a social worker, counselor, life coach, religious leader, etc. We talked about the chapters in Justin’s book that talk about different modalities that can help, and did help him – exercise, therapy, diet and more. After he figured out the anxiety and depression, he wanted to do things that fueled and excited him. The last section of the book is all about having the unbelievable confidence to be able to do things that might have scared you or breaking through the barriers that have stood in your way. You become a new person, an evolved person. He talked about a variety of things he did that he didn’t want to or even insisted he would never do, like taking dance classes and riding roller coasters, which he’s now ended up loving after being totally afraid of them. Many impersonators and tribute artists cut material that had some level of critical, commercial or artistic success, so we especially deep dive those, and we ponder what Elvis would have thought of the ETA phenomenon. Plus, Justin hops on his soapbox. Then, for Song of the Week, we twist it around and feature two of the songs we like the least. Hello. Welcome to Inside The Newsroom. We’re in unprecedented times. The coronavirus pandemic has swept through most of the planet, with total cases at more than 167,000 and deaths at 6,449, as of Monday morning. It’s quickly becoming one of the worst pandemics in history. But even with weeks of warning signs, governments around the world continue to be too lax and do too little. Here in the UK, the government have opted for a “herd immunity” strategy, happy for up to 80 percent of the 66 million population to contract the disease to build immunity while thousands of vulnerable people die in the process. Elsewhere in Europe, Spain has joined Italy in a full lockdown. But what about the rest of the world? For the record, the official numbers of cases and deaths are likely to be far higher due to the lack of tests available and carried out. With that said, let’s take a look at what each country with a confirmed case is doing to stop COVID-19. Due to Substack’s email length limits, I’ve had to divide into two emails. Look out for another email with countries between J and Z. And apologies for the opening seconds of the podcast, lol, I’m tired. And share this post by hitting the below button 👇Afghanistan: 16 cases, 0 deaths 🇦🇫Afghanistan announced the closure of all educational institutions Saturday and the extension of the country’s winter holidays for another month until April 21. The country has already cancelled all sports events after it reported its first case in late February. If the numbers are anywhere near correct, Afghanistan has done an excellent job in stemming the outbreak.Albania: 42 cases, 1 death 🇦🇱Albania is rightly treating the coronavirus as an enemy of war. It banned the use of private cars this past weekend, and has already closed all garment factories, call centers, bars and restaurants. The country’s central bank also announced that holiday loan repayments can be postponed for three months.Algeria: 48 cases, 4 deaths 🇩🇿The Algerian government shut down schools and universities and has limited travel to and from Europe. But that hasn’t stopped the mass protests that have been ongoing for the past year. Remarkably, I’m on the government’s side: please postpone the protests.Andorra: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇦🇩All ski resorts have closed as Andorra tries to keep its figures rock bottom. Antigua and Barbuda: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇦🇬Prime minister Gaston Browne announced a 30-day ban on all fetes, parties and similar social events. However, the red carpet premier of Wendy, parts of which were shot in Antigua, will still go ahead.Argentina: 45 cases, 2 deaths 🇦🇷Argentina has banned entry of non-residents who have traveled to a country highly affected by coronavirus in the last 14 days.Armenia: 26 cases 0 deaths 🇦🇲All schools, universities and kindergartens have been closed until at least March 23. All campaign rallies ahead of next month’s constitutional referendum have also been suspended.Aruba: 2 cases, 0 deaths 🇦🇼Aruba has been largely unaffected but has now confirmed its first two cases. Travelers from Europe will be banned from entering the Caribbean island until at least March 31, with the exception of Aruban nationals.Australia: 297 cases, 3 deaths 🇦🇺Due to its proximity to Wuhan, Australia was one of the first countries to deal with the outbreak. *If* the numbers are near correct, its government has done a good job of limiting the spread, so far. People arriving to the country must self-isolate for 14 days or face hefty fines. If only prime minister Scott Morrison was as tough on climate change…Austria: 860 cases, 1 death 🇦🇹Sebastian Kurz introduced border checks with Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and banned flight connections with France, Spain and Switzerland. Kurz has also shut his country’s border with Italy, China, Iran and South Korea, the hardest hit countries so far.Azerbaijan: 23 cases, 1 death 🇦🇿Little has been announced from a government riddled with corruption and fraud. What we do know is that Azerbaijan and Turkey have suspended all road and air transportation between the two countries. Bahrain: 214 cases, 0 deaths 🇧🇭Bahrain could be a country in dire trouble because of its closeness to Iran and continues to accept evacuees from its neighbour. So far there have been no deaths reported in Bahrain, and the country cancelled Friday prayers and has pardoned hundreds of prisoners to contain the spread. Bangladesh: 5 cases, 0 deaths 🇧🇩Flights to all European countries except the UK (laughable) have been suspended. Outbreak remains low as of Sunday.Belarus: 27 cases, 0 deaths 🇧🇾Belarus recorded its first case two weeks ago, so has done well to limit the number of cases to just 27. Belgium: 886 cases, 4 deaths 🇧🇪Another of the European countries at the centre of the outbreak, Belgium has declared a national emergency and closed all schools, bars and restaurants, and cancelled all sporting and recreational events. Shops can stay open during the week, but must close on weekends, except for pharmacies and grocery stores.Bhutan: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇧🇹More than a week after the country’s first case was detected, the government announced a travel ban to all tourists, which has helped the spread remain next to zero. Bolivia: 10 cases, 0 deaths 🇧🇴Scarce hospital resources resulted in a patient with the virus to be turned away from hospital. Meanwhile, all campaigning for upcoming presidential elections have been suspended.Bosnia and Herzegovina: 24 cases, 0 deaths 🇧🇦Little to report in terms of government measures as number of cases remains low relative to geographic location.Brazil: 162 cases, 0 deaths 🇧🇷Brazil is a country destined for disaster as president Jair Bolsonaro has predictably waged a war on the media as overreacting to the pandemic. One doctor warned that the number of cases is set to skyrocket to as many as 45,000 in a matter of months, while Bolsonaro says he tested negative amid reports he tested positive. He also met with Donald Trump on Saturday. Good luck, Brazil. Brunei: 50 cases, 0 deaths 🇧🇳Little is being done in Brunei as news cases continue to be confirmed linked to religious gatherings. Around 640 people have been ordered to undergo quarantine. Bulgaria: 51 cases, 2 deaths 🇧🇬Schools, universities and kindergartens will remain closed until March 29, as well as visits to gyms, cinemas, bars, restaurants and shops except for supermarkets and pharmacies. Travel has been restricted to 14 countries as the number of cases is expected to rise sharply in the coming days and weeks.Burkina Faso: 3 cases, 0 deaths 🇧🇫Number of cases remain low in many African countries, but next few days will determine whether cases will skyrocket.Cambodia: 7 cases, 0 deaths 🇰🇭Cambodia has banned entry of visitors from Italy, Germany, Spain, France and the U.S., while also banning all entry by water transport.Cameroon: 2 cases, 0 deaths 🇨🇲Like many African countries, the cases in Cameroon remains low. However messages to the people to keep washing their hands don’t go far enough, and my guess is that the cases will soon explode. Canada: 252 cases, 1 death 🇨🇦Canada is one of a handful of countries whose leaders have been affected. Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, wife of prime minister Justin, tested positive on Thursday. While Justin remains symptom free, he has shut down parliament and advised against all foreign travel.Cayman Islands: 1 case, 1 death 🇰🇾Cayman reported its first death over the weekend, a patient who had been traveling on a cruise ship that’s been responsible for cases in other countries including Puerto Rico.Chile: 74 cases, 0 deaths 🇨🇱Large public events with more than 500 people have been banned as 1,300 people aboard two cruise ships have been quarantined. Protests over high cost of living and inequality will unfortunately have to wait.China: 81,003 cases, 3,203 deaths 🇨🇳The centre of what’s heading to be the world’s worst pandemic since the Spanish Flu in 1918 has fortunately begun to report a plateau of cases and deaths. The latest count saw China confirm just 26 new cases and 10 new deaths, a welcome sign from the thousands of cases and deaths reported at the country’s peak in February. Much of the country, including Wuhan, remain under lockdown, but it’s unknown whether cases will jump again once the lockdown ends. Colombia: 34 cases, 0 deaths 🇨🇴The border with Venezuela has been closed as fear begins to take hold of South America, one of the last continents to see confirmed cases. Non-nationals will be barred from entering the country if they’ve been in Europe or Asia over the past two weeks.Costa Rica: 27 cases, 0 deaths 🇨🇷While the number of cases remain low, president Carlos Alvarado announced several measures to try and limit the economic damage that’s inevitably about to hit almost every corner of the economy, especially the country’s reliant tourism industry. The measures include:Insurance and Social Security: Alvarado will meet Monday with the Social Security System (Caja) to establish guidelines alleviating payments into insurance and social security.Loans and credit: The government has prepared a proposal that would allow people and businesses with loans to defer payments without additional interest or penalties.Taxes: The president’s economic team will present a law project that would allow businesses to temporarily defer taxes without paying additional interest or penalties.INS products: The National Insurance Institute will announce next week at least three new products, including one tailored to the tourism sector.Price regulations: Costa Rica will regulate the price of certain sanitary products to prevent price gouging.Cote d'Ivoire: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇨🇮The sole person believe to have contracted the disease is in a stable condition in hospital.Croatia: 49 cases, 0 deaths 🇭🇷Schools and universities were closed over the weekend for an initial two-week period. But they’ll still be open for parents to leave their kids while they work. Counterintuitive much? Cuba: 4 cases, 0 deaths 🇨🇺Cuba is keeping its borders open to visitors from all countries, including those who have declared a state of emergency. Very smart geniuses. Curacao: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇨🇼Travel restrictions are in place for visitors from Europe. All other passengers will need to pass through immigration counters.Cyprus: 26 cases, 0 deaths 🇨🇾As of Sunday, Cyprus closed its borders to everyone except Cypriot citizens, legal residents, European nationals working in Cyprus, diplomats and students. Czech Republic: 253 cases, 0 deaths 🇨🇿Nationwide quarantine was expected to be announced at the time of writing (Sunday afternoon). Borders have been closed.Democratic Republic of Congo: 2 cases, 0 deaths 🇨🇩 Few cases have been reported, but the DRC is another African country that’s widely reported to be severely unprepared for an outbreak. To be fair, you can say the same about most countries and continents.Denmark: 875 cases, 2 deaths 🇩🇰All borders have been closed after the first death was reported over the weekend.Dominican Republic: 11 cases, 0 deaths 🇩🇴The government claims to have the virus under control. Hard to believe when only 37 tests have been carried out for a population of more than 10 million. I expect the cases to significantly increase.Ecuador: 28 cases, 2 deaths 🇪🇨All borders closed after first deaths reported. Ecuadorean citizens and foreigners with Ecuadorean residency will have until the end of Monday to return.Egypt: 110 cases, 2 deaths 🇪🇬Schools and universities will be closed for two weeks from today, while the country struggles to grapple with the outcomes from contaminated cruises along the Nile.Equatorial Guinea: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇬🇶Not much reported, but first case reported over the weekend.Estonia: 171 cases, 0 deaths 🇪🇪Number of cases likely to be more than official total as people can only be tested once they begin to suffer from symptoms. Good plan. eSwatini: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇸🇿Not much reported, first case reported over the weekend.Ethiopia: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇪🇹Same as above as first case was reported this weekend.Finland: 244 cases, 0 deaths 🇫🇮Schools and universities have been shut in some areas as the country is in the delay stage as opposed to containing the spread.France: 4,513 cases, 91 deaths 🇫🇷One of the hardest hit countries to date, as all non-essential public spaces have been closed. However, that doesn’t cover grocery stores, banks, public transport and… tobacconists? If you’re looking for a government that’s completely failed its people, it is France, who still held local elections on Sunday. French Guyana: 5 cases, 1 deaths 🇬🇫A woman who had traveled back from New York has died in the country’s first death.Gabon: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇬🇦Schools are closed for two weeks and tourist visas have been suspended for hardest hit countries, namely the European Union, China, South Korea and the United States.Georgia: 33 cases, 0 deaths 🇬🇪Little reported on government measures.Germany: 5,795, 11 deaths 🇩🇪Borders with France, Switzerland and Austria to be largely shut today, but goods will continue to flow between the countries. Commuters will also be allowed to cross. Ghana: 6 cases, 0 deaths 🇬🇭Government announced that $100 million will be allocated to stopping the spread, and international travel by public officials will be suspended.Greece: 331 cases, 4 deaths 🇬🇷Fortunately I got out of Greece just in time, as the country is now a hot bed for cases. Because of its huge tourism industry, cases are expected to balloon into the thousands in the coming days. All schools, bars, cafes and shopping malls have been closed, and all flights to and from Italy have been banned.Guadeloupe: 5 cases, 0 deaths 🇬🇵Not much has been reported on suspensions or closures, but we know that a hunt for people connected to the five confirmed cases is underway. Good luck.Guatemala: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇬🇹Flights from the U.S. and Canada will be banned today, and anyone who’s arrived in the past few days will be quarantined. No cruise ships will be allowed to dock, but public events and school classes would go ahead for the time being.Guinea: 1 case, 0 deaths 🇬🇳Couldn’t find anything on government measures other than the announcement that the country’s elections will go ahead on Sunday. Unbelievable. Guyana: 4 case, 0 deaths 🇬🇾Lax measures include and contact tracing of possible patients, and meetings between public health officials and staff members of the country’s health facilities infection-control measures are in place. Too little, too late.Honduras: 3 cases, 0 deaths 🇭🇳Schools closed for two weeks. Not much else reported.Hungary: 32 cases, 1 death 🇭🇺Never one to a miss a beat, Hungary’s prime minister Viktor Orban blamed foreigners and migration for the spread of coronavirus in Hungary. Orban didn’t hesitate to pounce on the nine Iranians who have the disease in Hungary, banning them from entering the country again for three years upon their recovery. Iceland: 171 cases, 5 deaths 🇮🇸The 171 confirmed cases is expected to skyrocket, thanks to a voluntary test that suggested one percent of the population have the virus. Schools have been closed and public gatherings have been restricted to less than 100 people.India: 113 cases, 2 deaths 🇮🇳If there’s a country to watch, it’s India. A country of more than 1.4 billion people, expect the number of cases and deaths to soar. To try and limit that number, the following measures have been taken:All visas, barring a select few categories, have been suspended for a monthVisa-free travel afforded to overseas citizens of the country has been suspended until April 15 and even those allowed in could be subject to 14 days of quarantineSchools, colleges and movie theatres in the capital, Delhi, have been shut until March 31stThe IPL, featuring nearly 60 foreign players and scheduled to begin on March 29th, has been postponed to April 15Two one-day cricket matches between India and South Africa will be played behind closed doorsIndonesia: 117 cases, 5 deaths 🇮🇩Contact tracing has started. Too little too late. Iran: 13,938 cases, 724 deaths 🇮🇷Trenches are being dug for mass graves. The 724 figure above is likely to be way, way out, and deaths are likely to already be well into the thousands. I’m scared to find out what the eventual figure turns out to be.Iraq: 116 cases, 10 deaths 🇮🇶Iraq has done its utmost to stop the spread from bordering Iran. Karbala, a southern city in southern Iraq has declared a three-day curfew in order to disinfect the entire province. Authorities in Saladin province imposed a lockdown. And last week, Baghdad shut down schools and universities for 10 days and banned travel to virus-hit states.Ireland: 129 cases, 2 deaths 🇮🇪Authorities in Ireland have assured people that the country has enough stock of prescriptions and medicines so not to panic buy. And Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said planning restrictions would be relaxed to allow supplies to be delivered to shops outside of authorised hours.Israel: 251 cases, 0 deaths 🇮🇱Israel is using anti-terrorism tracking technology to identify new cases of the virus. I don’t have enough space to explain how this works, so click here to read more on that.Italy: 24,747, 1,809 deaths 🇮🇹The worst-hit country outside of China, Italy has been on lockdown since Tuesday. The 60 million people now has to follow the following":Stay at home and don’t socializeAll shops except grocery stores and pharmacies must stay closedItalians who want to travel must get police permissionPeople accompanying others to the hospital emergency room can no longer wait with themHealthcare workers have to cancel their vacationsReduced jail visitsMortgage repayments have been suspendedLike Me. The emergence of the modern conservative movement came about in the twentieth century with the fusion of multiple groups that found they not only had common interests, but they shared common foundational beliefs.  Free market advocates, libertarians, Burkean traditionalists, the religious Right, and foreign policy hawks found common ground that led to the high watermark of the conservative movement culminating with the Reagan Revolution of the 1980s.   What led to this?  Why do conservative interest groups today seem far more splintered?  Why is the conservative movement devolving into so much infighting when we were once more unified?  And how might we chart a course forward that reunites the shared interests of the various factions under the conservative umbrella?   Joining Saving Elephants host Josh Lewis is Justin Stapley, a freelance advocacy journalist whose writing has typically centered around federalism and classical liberalism.  Justin’s first political writings appeared in 2016 on his NeverTyranny blog which was revamped as The Millennial Federalist in 2017 and today his blog is entitled Unpopular Dissent.  He has written extensively on behalf of the Federalist Coalition and has also been published in the American Legislative Exchange Council website, featured at NOQ Report, and will soon be featured as a contributing opinion columnist at Porter Medium.  Justin’s writings have even been featured on the Saving Elephants blog.   While Justin is certainly a conservative, he describes himself as a federalist and a classical liberal, firmly in the camp of Jefferson and Madison and their view of a government of ordered liberty.  This will be evident in the conversation as Justin describes the special tension between order and liberty that has run throughout all American conservative movements.   A composite of Justin’s writings can be found at justinstapley.com.  His writings extend beyond politics and touch on philosophy, religion, and the great outdoors.  He was born and raised in the state of Utah and currently resides in Bluffdale.

Welcome to the Don't Be Crazy Podcast! Here we discuss and dissect what makes a film (past or present) absolutely amazing or a pile of rubbish. All that we ask of each other is don't be crazy. For our very first episode we decided to tackle Big Trouble in Little China. While Justin and Zach do their best to convince one another the film is either amazing or rubbish, they'll let you decide. Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

I will push you: A Camino Journey of 500 Miles, Two Best Friends and One Wheelchair "I'll Push You: A Real-Life Inspiration" tells the story of two lifelong friends, Justin Skeesuck and Patrick Gray, embarking on an epic, 500-mile-long journey to hike Spain's famed El Camino de Santiago. Hiking this ancient pilgrimage along the vast terrain is challenging enough for the able-bodied, but these friends show the true test of humanity by physically and mentally pushing each other, as Justin, fighting a neuromuscular disease, would have to be pushed in a wheelchair. While Justin and Patrick face various challenges, they realize the greatest journey will be that of self-discovery, a sense of purpose and love of a community.

The truth is, even the material they cut is good enough for a new episode. Unfortunately not everyone shares that opinion. Being Honest with Yourself as a Trader? | STR 010

Today we talk with Justin, aka FreeFall909, and discuss a journey that I’m sure many people can relate to. After being inspired by a Hollywood movie about the stock market, Justin found himself in the Wild Wild West of penny stock trading and eventually turned himself into someone else’s puppet. It was not until he got honest with himself that his journey was put on the bullish pathway. While Justin is not a professional trader or anything like that, his story is one that hits the heart and soul of the goal of this podcast: giving insight into the life of a normal guy who is on a quest to conquer the markets. Not only does honesty go a long way in normal life, but when it comes to trading, being honest is a critical piece to the puzzle as you will hear about in this episode. Notes: Justin was interested in the stock market at an early age and decided to get involved after the movie ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ came out. While he was able to find some penny stocks that moved, he was very inconsistent and gave back his earnings most times. He started to follow various people on Twitter and it was on one of those ‘plays’ that he took a significant loss and then decided to take some time off. After seeing people on InvestorsHub talk about technical analysis and charting and decided this would be something worth educating himself on. Justin is not rich and didn’t think he would ever be able to trade big board stocks but then learned about options and completely abandoned penny stocks to trade these larger name companies. While he doesn’t trade huge size, Justin’s winners are drastically larger than his losers and that is an attribute that can scale up to larger trading size in time. Quotes: “I didn’t really take out of it that penny stocks were scams. I thought that they were going to make me rich.” tweet this quote “I thought that any and all marijuana stocks were going to go to the moon. I wouldn’t even pull up a chart.” tweet this quote “I was just pumping the money in until I was at a pretty significant loss.” tweet this quote “I got the options course, realized I could actually play big board stocks and I knew it was going to work at that point.” tweet this quote “I’m trying to manage my risk more than I am trying to get huge gains.” tweet this quote “It’s nice to know now, even if I only make 15$, I actually knew what I was looking at and was rewarded.” tweet this quote Links: Course: Robotic Trading Course: Options Trading Simplified Videos: Live Trade Playlist
