Today's cast: Dan, Stugotz, Chris, Billy, Mike, and Roy. Stugotz is full of energy after a splashy NFL trade, but for whatever reason, the crew wants to discuss a hypothetical QB trade of Matt Stafford for Sam Darnold because of a rumor on an aggregation account on X. Then, Billy missed his opportunity to become a millionaire after video has revealed he was inches away from obtaining the Shohei Ohtani 50-50 home run ball. Plus, Yankees GM Brian Cashman says the Astros didn't win in his personal record book and Jared Goff is the best QB is the NFL. Also, Michael S. "Mike on a Mobile" Schmidt of the New York Times joins the show to share info on Donald Trump's former Chief of Staff John Kelly saying Trump is a fascist, but instead, he discusses his love of Mad Dog Russo, the Astros cheating scandal, and "Steinbrenner Duty." So, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is not over the Astros beating them in 2017. He said as much recently during an appearance on MLB Network's High Heat with Christopher "Mad Dog" Russo. Cashman was asked about the 15 years it's taken, for the Yankees to win the American League and get back to the World Series. Yet, he cannot allow the 2017 Astros to get out of his mind. Now, Adam Clanton has absolutely had it with Cashman.
I'm so thankful that I got to see Brian Cashman after quite a few years and he even stopped by for a quick soundbite on what his thoughts are for the rest of this Yankees season.

Defensive LineThe competition for the third starting defensive line position is between DJ Davidson, Ryder Anderson, Jordan Phillips, and Jordan Riley. Dexter Lawrence and "Nacho" Rakeem Nunez-Roches are the top two linemen. Jordan Phillips, a veteran with 120 games and 62 starts, will likely play on passing downs. Ryder Anderson fits as a DE in a 4-3 setup. Both Jordan Phillips and Jordan Riley are run stoppers, and one needs to step up. Phillips is expected to get the most playing time initially, but as he turns 32, his best days may be behind him. Upgrading this group is ideal, but given their draft status, the hope is they will be serviceable as a collective unit.Backup LinebackerBehind starting linebackers Bobby Okereke and Micah McFadden, Isaiah Simmons, Darrian Beavers, Matthew Adams, and Carter Coughlin are competing. Simmons, re-signed late, pairs well with McFadden but has positional issues. Beavers, recovering from an ACL tear, is a wildcard and may contribute on special teams. Adams and Coughlin excel on special teams but not on defense. If Beavers returns to form, he might leapfrog Adams or Coughlin on the depth chart.Starting CornerbackCor'Dale Flott, Nick McCloud, and Trey Hawkins III are vying for the starting cornerback spot. Flott is the current frontrunner despite McCloud's better performance. Hawkins, who started last season, has not maintained that level and is less likely to regain a starting role. Slot CornerbackAndru Phillips and Darnay Holmes are competing for the slot cornerback position. The team prefers Phillips, a third-round pick, but he may struggle initially. Holmes, with 54 games and 11 starts, could take over if Phillips falters. Phillips will get the first opportunity, but Holmes might see snaps if needed.Third SafetyThe battle for the third safety spot involves Dane Belton, Jalen Mills, and Gervarrius Owens. Belton is a playmaker with run defense issues. Mills, a former cornerback, is better suited for nickel/dime packages. Owens, a 7th-round pick, spent most of last season on the practice squad. Belton is likely to stay as a backup, and Mills' veteran presence is valuable. Owens needs to perform well to make Mills expendable.OTAs Update: Practice 6, 7 & 8Friday's practice saw the defense dominate, with pass breakups from Cor'Dale Flott and Jalen Mills, and an interception by Deonte Banks. Dexter Lawrence disrupted the backfield and batted down passes. Darius Slayton, Bryce Ford-Wheaton, and Jalin Hyatt scored touchdowns. Monday's practice had special teams and linebackers excelling, with interceptions by Tre Hawkins and pass breakups by Cor'Dale Flott. Tuesday's practice was offense-dominated, with Daniel Jones completing multiple passes, including a 40-yard pass to Isaiah Hodgins. The sports month of May is off to a flying start. Here to keep you apprised on all of that and then some, you know that I've got you covered as your trusted favorite little podcast host. On deck: (2:45) Unfortunately, I have a mea culpa before I kickoff the pod as there is some construction (or a woodpecker, I jest) that may be heard in the background for the first 10-15 minutes or so. If you're able to hear it, my sincerest apologies ahead of time. (3:20) The NBA Playoffs are officially in the second round. Newly minted MVP of the regular season, Sixers center Joel Embiid, returned to the lineup in Game 2 against the Celtics. Was it a good thing? Or should he have waited until Game 3 in Philadelphia? The Heat and Knicks are tied at 1-1. The big question is the health status of guard Jimmy Butler. Will he be in the lineup in Game 3? Denver is out to a 2-0 lead on Phoenix as the next two games will be in the Valley? Are the Suns done? Or can they still rise and be heard from? Then you have the Lakers-Warriors, with LA up 1-0 at the moment. Is Anthony Davis the key to the Lakers success and not LeBron James? (22:05) Things are heating up on the ice as the Stanley Cup Playoffs head into their second round as well. The Devils stepped up and disposed their bridge and tunnel rival Rangers on Monday. Could this be a long offseason for New York as so much was expected heading into this year? New Jersey got off to the same start they did against the Rangers, at Carolina in Game 1 last night. Vegas took a 1-0 series lead vs. Edmonton, despite sniper Leon Draisaitl scoring four goals vs. the Golden Knights. Those pesky Panthers did not let down after their overtime heroics in Boston as the won Game 1 north of the border in Toronto. Is the pressure mounting after just one game for the Maple Leafs, considering they finally got out of the first round since 2004? And the Kraken have continued their winning ways, winning in Dallas to get a leg up on that series. (34:29) Should Met fans (including yours truly) be concerned that Max Scherzer's best pitching days are behind him? I have quite a bit to say here, so you won't want to miss this. Yankees GM Brian Cashman had a state of the union on his ballclub, reassuring the fan base not to count them out. Was this necessary? I'll get into the latest of what's taking place on the diamond as baseball is more than a month in. (49:47) The first leg of Horse Racing's Triple Crown kicks off on Saturday as the Kentucky Derby is just about here. Unfortunately there's been some news recently about horses that have been euthanized over the past week over at Churchill Downs. Is it time to consider that this archaic sport needs to be abolished? Meanwhile, I will preview what I know about the 149th Running of the Roses. Will we see another long shot win such as Rich Strike did last year? Hour 2- The Yankees GM Brian Cashman gave the media an opportunity to ask questions. BT says they missed the boat on asking the right questions again.
David, Justin and James take a look at several promising pitchers who have the potential to elevate themselves and pitch like an ace in 2023. The trio discusses the current list of aces that MLB Network recently ranked on its “Top 10 Right Now” list and feel several names are misplaced, including Sandy Alcantara, Jacob deGrom, and possibly, Gerrit Cole. Coney then answers what Carlos Beltran can provide pitchers in his new role with the Mets. The crew touches on Yankees GM Brian Cashman's recent comments about the fan base, and while the comments may have been sensationalized via the media, Cashman's outlook shouldn't only be black and white. 00:00 INTRO 03:26 The Opener 08:31 What new aces will emerge in 2023? 25:11 Reacting to MLB Network's Top 10 starting pitchers 34:02 Max Fried loses his arbitration case 39:10 Carlos Beltran gets front office job with Mets 43:53 Brian Cashman speaks 54:20 OUTRO

Matt, Chris and Nick start the podcast in song and discuss (believe it or not) the MLB first. On the heels of Lindor being traded to the Mets, again, Nick has a few choice words for the Yankees’ GM Brian Cashman. Is Cashman’s back against the wall to not only sign DJ but another free agent as well? Then, we bounce it quickly to the NBA. The Celtics’ games have been postponed this week due to Covid. The Knicks have gone from a 3 game win streak to a 3 game skid. As the Nets continue their run at .500. Durant and Irving have missed 4 of 11 games and the Nets are 4-4 when at least one of them is on the court. Conclusion, possible live stream for the Knicks @ Celtics game Sunday, 1:00 pm ET. NFL Wildcard weekend was a doozy consisting of some great games, duds and upsets. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson each get their first playoff win, earning the right to play each other. Both Allen and Jackson were 1st round picks back in 2018. Meanwhile, in Seattle, the dream of another title is over for Russell Wilson. The Rams defense stifled Wilson and Metcalf. Which brings up a great tangent, is Donald the best defensive player in the league? Then, the matchup Roger has been waiting for is now set, Brady vs. Brees. While Brady looked electric vs. the Washington “R” words, Brees and the Saints were mostly carried by their defense. After the Bears/Saints lay an egg on Nickelodeon. The Browns shock the world on Sunday Night football going up 28-0 in the first quarter. However, every viewer thought the Browns were going to pull a Browns and blow this game. Yet, the Browns closed the door on JuJu and the Steelers. With that win, Cleveland has earned the right to make their way to Arrowhead. Although it was a tough Saturday for the gang, there was a bit of redemption Sunday. In prompt to running back discussion and early 2000s NFL memories. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
My guest today is Dana Cavalea, who spent 12 years with the New York Yankees, many of which were as the Director of Strength and Conditioning & Performance Enhancement. He won the 2009 World Series and was named the top strength coach voted by his peers during the same season. He is also the author of Habits of A Champion. During the episode, we discuss what it was like to be called by Yankees GM Brian Cashman at the age of 23 to be promoted to the Head Strength Coach, why certain players have the right mental make-up and routine to succeed over time, how he helped young players work through failure, and what Mariano Rivera said the secret was to his success. He also touches on how GM Brian Cashman handled the team meeting during the 2009 season after they lost 10 straight games, which turned the season around, and what other lessons he learned from guys like Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, and Andy Pettite. What’s one area you’re looking to improve in over the next year? Take his health and fitness to another level 4. What’s popular advice you hear people say that you think is wrong? You can’t be great at everything; you have to figure out what you’re great at and excel in that area. 5. What advice do you have for young coaches who are listening to this? Just because you’re young doesn’t mean you don’t know anything, but just because you’re young and you think you know everything doesn’t mean you do. 6. What’s the darkest moment you experienced professionally and how did you overcome it? He and Joe Girardi had philosophical differences on training and his contract wasn’t renewed after his final season as a result but he knew there would be something else for him afterwards. Favorite Quotes: “What makes him (Mariano Rivera) tick is he isn’t worrying about public applause and he’s not worried about public opinion. He just focuses on what it is that he was hired to do. And that was to pitch and get hitters out.” “When you work under a guy like Joe Torre, it’s like having a grandfather /mob-boss as your manager.” “You can have a difficult conversation with a player, but you always have to make that player leave feeling good about themselves, and that’s what Joe (Torre) did a great job of.” “If you show up with the intent of being successful and being competitive, you have a great chance of being successful because you’re competitive.”

11-28-2018 Passed Ball Show- John opens this show up with a little recap of what worked in Ohio State's surprising blowout victory over Michigan. Ohio State clearly held back their entire game plan for Michigan for the entire season. College Football has the strongest rivalries in all of sports. Baker Mayfield should have acknowledged his former coach after the Browns victory over the Bengals this past Sunday. It was not Hue Jackson's decision to leave the Browns- he was fired. Because of that, he should not be vilified for choosing his next job. Similarly, Mayfield's decision to leave Texas Tech for Oklahoma was for his own good and under no circumstances be an indictment of Baker. Robinson Cano is likely to be traded by the rebuilding Seattle Mariners, but GM Jerry DiPoto needs to stick to his guns and get the trading team to take Cano's contract in full as part of the deal. Jacoby Ellsbury has no trade value and if he is dealt, it simply means Yankees GM Brian Cashman bullied another team into taking him. John then talks about a couple football fights that reminded him of two unpopular middle school students being baited into a fight with the popular kids just laughing at them. Finally, in "Nobody's Listening," John reminds to viewer that everybody makes inappropriate comments. Maybe it is time to cut people some slack.
