Centered 12 miles southeast of Greenback, Tennessee, near Nantahala National Forest, the quake caused houses to shake and windows to rattle, sparking social media buzz. Eastern Tennessee is one of the Southeast's most active earthquake zones, according to the USGS. STORY 3: Duluth's Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Celebrating 40th Anniversary With Free Concert Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Duluth is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a free outdoor concert on Saturday, May 17, at 7 p.m. The event, featuring PHPC’s Chancel Choir and guest musicians, will showcase audience favorites from past performances under the theme “The Best of Cabaret and Chastain at PHPC Over the Years.” Guests are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and picnics, with light refreshments provided. Wood, who joined Buford in 1995, transformed its football program as head coach, achieving a 118-17 record, three consecutive state titles (2001-2003), and a state-record 47-game winning streak. As athletic director, he expanded the school’s sports offerings, fostering statewide competitiveness across programs. Already a member of multiple halls of fame, Wood calls this honor one of his career highlights, cherishing the chance to join elite peers. Now a senior athletics advisor, Wood continues to inspire, saying he still wakes up excited to support Buford’s athletes and coaches. STORY 5: Kemp signs $37.7 billion state budget Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed a $37.7 billion fiscal 2026 state budget, prioritizing education, school safety, and prisons. The budget fully funds the K-12 Quality Basic Education formula with $300 million, allocates $108.9 million for school safety improvements, and $47.9 million for student mental health programs, following a tragic school shooting last year. It also includes $141 million for a new private-school vouchers program. To address prison system issues, $200 million will go toward hiring and raising salaries for correctional officers. Additionally, $1 billion is set for transportation and building projects, using a pay-as-you-go approach to save taxpayers $150 million annually. The budget takes effect July 1. This week Evan, Megan, and Dave take in the new Nick Frost-written-and-starring horror comedy GET AWAY (2:50), about a family that goes to a remote Swedish island for a holiday weekend, only to be trapped as a killer is on the loose. Zoinks! Blood and guts ensue! But do the laughs follow? DO THEY?!! Two-thirds of us felt one way, and one-third of us felt another way. Then we watch RED ROOMS (26:02), the French-Canadian drama about obsession (among other things) about the trial of a man accused of absolutely horrifying, grisley murders - all captured on video as snuff films (thankfully, the visuals of said snuff films make limited appearances, though the audio doesn't leave much mystery). However, the lead character, Kelly-Anne (Juliette Gariépy) goes down the rabbit hole during the trial, and writer-director Pascal Plante doesn't lay out easy answers for the questions he poses. We were all fascinated, and this made Megan's Top 10 of 2024 list. Over on Patreon, we're joined by Jimmy Stewart to talk about the 1956 Alfred Hitchcock film THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH.

The Folklore Podcast launched in 2016 and since then has become one of the biggest folklore podcasts in the world. Zoinks! There's a new episode out now! We revisit Mystery Inc. with the 2002 live-action film, Scooby-Doo. We learn about the original script and story and how much it differed from the final product, wonder if Scooby wasn't depicted well or just had bad CGI, love the real sets and production design, and again discuss the queer subtext of the gang. We get into the extreme 2000s of it all, including the push for hetero-normative relationships and capital F Feminism, the generic racism, the extreme gelled hair, and Sugar Ray. We commend the actors/casting and think they did an excellent job with a sub-par script, making the cartoon characters feel real but not too real, and again praise Matthew Lillard in particular. Katy shares a Bob's Burgers theory, Carrie adds a movie to her “Never” list, Maddy thought the music was banging, and Mack is confident he could make a disco skull.
