Join my guest, Claire Thompson and me, as we explore the shadow of authority, how that plays into our integrity, small bits about what it means to move with integrity, and over course RAGE! The episode begins with a dive into working for others and beginning to step into our power by bringing awareness to formerly hidden patterns of behavior and how that may be getting in the way of our ability to lead. This then guides us into a juicy conversation on integrity and leads into Rage and the navigation of root emotions. Being a Rage Ritual Practitioner, amongst other amazing offerings, Claire discusses the potency of integrating a rage practice and sheds light on a few ways that might be integrated into our daily lives. Please excuse any dog interferences, even puppies need to rage sometimes. Please subscribe, review, and best of all... SHARE! I hope you enjoy and I'll see you next time. This special edition episode is a conversation, much needed on the global main stage. For too long, we here in America, have only ever heard one perspective on the Palestinian and Israeli conflict. We are very fortunate to hear from Ramzy, a Palestinian American Man, on the history of Palestinian culture, people, land, and how this conflict began. In this episode we dive deep into the weeds of the issues surrounding the atrocities currently plaguing Palestinian and Israeli citizens and work to shed light on the complexity of colonization. Finally, we are hearing a Palestinian perspective. One rooted in political awareness, understanding, and as much openness and vulnerability as possible. I am infinitely grateful to Ramzy for having this talk with me and I urge you to continue to challenge the media narratives fed to us when searching to understand larger conflicts such as these. Don't forget the words of Ghandi, who said, "An eye for an eye makes the world blind." May this episode bring greater awareness as far and wide as possible, so that we as global citizens, can empower ourselves with information enough to learn and start making whatever changes are needed to bring peace to this land for all. This week we are unpacking Dopamine! This is a term that gets thrown around a lot these days and this episode is devoted to the continued exploration of understanding how our brains and bodies work in conscious and unconscious ways. Inside, we learn about what dopamine is, where it is, what it does, and how that might play out in our lives. Part of the shadow work experience is first learning to be aware of ourselves and our many systems, before we can take further steps. Once we are more cognizant of ourselves, next comes learning to show ourselves compassion for our humanness and starting on the path of making necessary shifts. Join as we unpack a dark night of the soul and what it means to both be in the darkest depths and to emerge. WE'RE BACK!! Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. On this weeks episode we've got the second part to our interview with the legendary Lisa Chatham. We cover a lot of ground from consent with partners and owning our wanting, speaking boundaries, polyamory and consenting non-monogamy, what it means to be a hell yes, and much more. The conversation of consent is one we could have indefinitely, and we grappled with such ideas, as not being damaged goods as a survivor of sexual assault and what it might mean to have a somatic practice in order to get back into our bodies after long moments of dissociation. We are all worthy of excellent sexual experiences so press play and enjoy! To connect with Lisa Chatham:http://www.lisachathampsychotherapy.comTo connect with Chloe:Email: chloe@downwithmydemons.comResources Mentioned:https://www.5rhythms.com/https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2022/4/21/proposed-changes-harassment-policies/https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1363460720961303https://sadeclasses.org/speaker/julie-fennell-slutphdBooks:The Ethical Slut by Dossie Easton and Janet Hardyhttps://www.amazon.com/Ethical-Slut-Third-Practical-Relationships/dp/0399579664Please Scream Quietly: A Story of Kink by Julie Fennellhttps://www.hpb.com/please-scream-quietly-a-story-of-kink/P-47814652-NEW.htmlThe Art of Receiving and Giving: The Wheel of Consent by Betty Martin with Robyn Dalzenhttps://wheelofconsentbook.com/Respect: Everything a Guy Needs to Know about Sex, Love, and Consent by Inti Chavez Perezhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43669272-respectPussy: A Reclamation by Regena Thomashauer https://www.amazon.com/Pussy-Reclamation-Regena-Thomashauer/dp/1401950248Support the show
This episode marks part one of our first ever Sex Series! In honor of Scorpio Season, the holiday season, and the shifting of our environments and selves, we dive into some of the edgier and more taboo parts of life. This first episode features Lisa Chatham, a Naropa University professor and licensed Psychotherapist. We begin to unpack the very difficult to navigate conversation that is consent and discuss the not so black and white nature of it. Lisa brings brilliant psychological, developmental, and social information to the table to aid a well rounded discussion. Consent is a topic that requires much more than an hour long conversation so thank you for baring with us as we do our best to hit some major (and maybe some unpopular/controversial) points. In this week's episode we talked to Garrett Hooper LMFT about men's mental health and why he think's it's taken so long illicit a societal response. Men make up the majority of death by suicide cases in the United States and yet there is not much conversation about it. The stigma and shame felt by many men around accessing or seeking out mental health continues to be a huge problem. Conversations like these will hopefully illuminate the versatile and beauty of different methods available to men all around the country. We briefly discuss gender, privilege, race, and the revenge on men experienced through social media and the like. Dating seems to be one of the most accessible things in the digital age and also one of it's biggest pain points. Not only in the superficiality of design but also in the lack of real connection through apps and platforms. We've grown accustomed to obscure ways of choosing a mate and may have even gotten ourselves in a place of fantasy that's proving hard to escape from. This episode dives into the shadowy bits of dating in this modern age as well as our new favorite dating past time and faux pas...ghosting. This episode means a lot to me in that it's been a life long journey and exploration of how I interact with the world and with my internal process. Forgiveness can feel confusing.... how do we forgive? Forgiveness can seem impossible, especially when we've been betrayed and hurt. Something deep in us knows that forgiveness is in our best interest and sometimes it can be easier to forgive others than to forgive ourselves. Often we think forgiveness has the vibration of "it's all ok," or "no worries." But forgiveness is not about compliance. It's about freeing ourselves so we can stop dragging painful and transformative moments throughout all aspects of our lives. Please subscribe, follow, share, and if you feel inspired, leave a review! This episode is one I've been grappling with for many years. It's hard to see friendships go, especially the ones we were in for the long haul. The truth is, death is a natural process to the flow of life and that goes for anything that ends...which is everything. Death of friendships can come about in many different ways. It could end in a drag out blow out. It could end slowly over time and slip away into the abyss. Or it could be the realization that we are no longer in alignment with someone else and so we gracefully remove ourselves. We could at either end of these situations at any time and it doesn't hurt any less. The truth is, losing friendships sucks! In this episode, I discuss why and how these things happen, the relationship to age and maturity, and touch on a few ways that I have experienced this in my own life. Just know, it's ok that friendships die. It's all part of this thing we call life. Please follow, subscribe, share, or leave a review! I hope you enjoy and I'll see you next time. None of us are above the capacity to hate. It's sometimes easier to point a finger and judge people or groups who are different than us and hate them and blame them for how they live and move in the world. With all the love that we are capable of, we hold that same capacity to tear down those in our same species, in the futile effort to make ourselves feel better. In this weeks episode, I explore the concept of hate. Where it originates in our development, how it can show up, and what we can begin to do about it in our lives. At the end, I share a practice that we know and love that helps when coming to consciousness about our ability to hate and next steps to take on our shadow path. Time is something we can't escape though sometimes it seems to evade us. The pace at which we want things to happen is not always the timing that brings them about and it can feel so defeating when they don't arrive on our time. We often say we don't have enough time in our lives, that time isn't on our side. Time is swiftly passing us by. What if we changed our perspective and narrative around time to one that worked with us? One that we could flow WITH and through. Time that supported us and gave us freedom like we've never known could be the game changer we are looking for.The time is now. This episode is jam packed with wisdom about these specific astrological placements that give many of us the heebie jeebies. I'm a believer that fear in something is truly a misunderstanding of the thing itself, and this episode serves as a guide to the prismatic quality of these wonderful planetary guides. Natalia has wonderful analogies to explain how these placements show up in our charts and references alchemy, mysticism, and timeless archetypes to help us better digest. Both Natalia and I share personal anecdotes around how these planets show up in our charts and how we move with, through, and because of them. This episode is about a topic that's brutally tough for many of us... boundaries! Saying the word, thinking about it, or getting ready to set a boundary has the power to make us hide under a blanket. But what we think is so scary about boundaries actually keeps us trapped by their lack in our lives. I discuss why boundaries are so crucial to living a life that's less stressful, more playful, toward your ultimate goals, and full of healthy connection. Setting boundaries is a muscle that, when practiced and utilized, gets stronger over time and easier to flex. We are worthy of true care from others and especially from ourselves and we wont get it without boundary setting. So sit back, relax, and be prepared to get real with yourself and the situations of your life. Please like, follow, and share! Enjoy and see you next time. Define what your boundaries/limits are. What are your NO's? 2. Communicate those boundaries with people in your life.3. Say them SIMPLY. No need to over explain.4. Create and communicate the consequences of someone (including yourself) not holding your boundary. 5. Hold your boundary and make good on the consequences where needed.Support the show
There is so much ground covered in this episode with the incredible Venus! What a blessing it was to have Venus join us, especially the day after Roe v. Wade was overturned. We discuss rage and somatic experiencing, dreams, the shadow of the feminine in society, consent, and about the importance of sharing our abortion stories. Venus gives with her full heart to this episode and we both unpack wounds from the past and what we've learned along the way. There is so much medicine and food for thought in this episode and I hope this encourages many more of us to speak up and out about our stories. This episode is PACKED with wisdom from my brother and fellow doctoral cohort member, Josh Ruszala. In this episode, Josh and I discuss how insecurities present themselves in social dynamics and how our thinking and feeling selves play a role. We both provide different anecdotes of our experiences with our insecurities and discuss how we navigate working through these social challenges. Carl Jung, Embodiment, Thinking, Feeling, and Hidden Trauma are just a few of the themes you'll find in this exchange. What a treat it was to host Josh and I hope you all get as much out of this as I did. Please subscribe, follow, share, and leave a review! Enjoy and see you next time! It was a pleasure to host Danna Schultz on this weeks episode about Eating Disorders. Danna is a nutritionist, kitchen witch, and coach who helps her clients navigate a life of joy and pleasure post disordered eating. We discuss the many circumstances that can cause eating disorders including trauma with breast feeding, attachment wounds, and nervous system misalignment. Danna takes us through polyvagal theory, nervous system regulation, and how to begin inhabiting the body after years of trauma. This episode questions: how do we come back home to ourselves after years of being disembodied? Finally, Danna explains to us how she works with her clients and we reflect on the societal implications. There are quite a few dog barks in this episode so thank you for your patience! This week's material was surprisingly edgy as I expose an element of shadow being cast by the self-care industry. This episode I discuss the ego-feeding problems with publicizing self-care and it's use in avoiding other's needs or any of our fears and discomforts. I talk about how I've been avoiding uncomfortable situations and conversations and how I came to realize how much that was hurting my ability to cope. Finally, we dive into the joys of facing our fears and utilizing staying with our discomfort as a radical act of self-care which inevitably leads to connection and intimacy. This episode is a full circle moment for me being that I had the honor of hosting my former professor, Linda Buzogany. Linda is a psychotherapist who works with dreams and unconscious material. She discusses an unexpected turn in her career focus when she came to realize a psychosomatic phenomenon through one of her students. Linda tells us about what a psychological non-epileptic seizure is and how other unconscious psychological material manifests itself through the body. Through work with dreams, she has been able to facilitate great healing with clients and her community. At the end, Linda gives us amazing tools to work with our dreams and the initial steps which will help with this particular process of discovery. This episode holds meaningful stories, dream scapes, and powerful revelations, and reminiscence from our past together, while honoring our present and future. This episode is a sweet and beautiful unpacking of the patriarchy's impact on the life of Ransom and Chloe Lionheart. Ransom took us on the journey of his lived experience navigating "masculinity" and how his perspectives have shifted and evolved over time. His vision of "healing the patriarchy" comes to life in this episode and sheds light on a topic not often discussed in media. We discuss our stories, the impact of anima and animas, briefly unpacking the gender spectrum, and how to empower yourself and your community at large. This was such a sweet episode with my dear brother, Kondor where we unpacked the Zen Buddhist proverb, "Let Go or Be Dragged." In this episode we loosely discuss the energies being felt at this time, how we are experiencing, and what it means to be getting dragged by our attachments to what is no longer working for us. We dive deeply into each of our experience's of needing to let go and how we are navigating their lessons. Lastly, we discuss how we are caring for ourselves. This episode gets sweeter and sweeter as time goes on so make sure to listen all the way through. Fear of success is often disguised as procrastination, excuses, "rational" thinking, and dragging our feet. It's so much easier to talk ourselves out of living a life we love and going after our dreams than it is to take the necessary steps to making it happen. Even if we KNOW it will completely revolutionize and change our lives. Fear of jealous people and judgement, fear of economic insecurity, fear of looking like a fool and being humiliated, fear of total failure, all of these are things we put our energy into to keep ourselves small. In this episode, I break down all of the variables of many of the fears of success and speak to the realities of those fears. Later on, we go over journal prompts to help ourselves begin to move in the direction of courage and compassionate understanding. Please like, subscribe, share and leave a review! Judgment is hard to avoid and is in fact one of our oldest mental patterns. Our minds want to look at this as black and white, good and bad, yes and no, but it's not that simple. We are complex and so is our pain. In this episode, we dive deeply into the shadow of judgment and where it comes from. We reflect on our own pain, the mirror of judging others and situations, and are encouraged to feel what is really coming up at the moment of judgement. I talk about hard personal stories of how judgement caused much pain in my life and how I'm working towards overcoming the thought patterns that create it. This episode is both deep and zany. Tons of story-telling, metaphors, laughs, truths, and deep vulnerability. We discuss what leads to a break up, how to recognize when one is coming, the emotion experiences and patterns, infidelity, boundaries, as well as the stages of grieving that occur. There is talk of redemption, reflection, resurrection, and restoration of the soul. So much wisdom is shared from years of experience and we relish in the joy that as all relationships are different, we are also different year after year, giving us more choice to how we want to go about things. We discuss the neurological chemistry that plays a role in the pain of breaking up and some examples of pain relieving activities and rituals to participate in. We discuss the roots of anger, how we experience it, and what we do when those kinds of emotions come bubbling up. Acknowledging anger as a natural process of healing grief and speaking on our responsibility to our anger and to others we share space with. This episode was a sensitive one for me. I touch on issues like the pandemic, the invasion of Ukraine, emotional defeat and some of the forms in which it shows itself. Within the episode, I speak to a challenging moment I experienced during the pandemic and some of the lessons that came from it. I read a poem, fitting for the times, by Khalil Gibran and teach an easy and powerful EMDR practice. Check out our Patreon to join our community and to participate in our monthly virtual meet-ups! In this episode, I speak on compassionate care for the self that is shadow work. With simple shifts of perception and ways of looking at things, the darkness and shadows within us begin to shift and lose some of their weight. Tons of metaphors, two poems by an ancient poet, views on society's obsession with immortality, and much more. This is an intimate dive into lessons I've gleaned from my shadow journey thus far and analogies I have used to shift my perspective, aiding a more confident walk in the dark. We end with my “golden egg” meditation to help ground us into our magnificence while walking the shadow path. Thank you all so much, please enjoy, and I'll see you next time. Deep within that sound resides a message. The sound cannot be heart, not the message discerned until we retreat from the noise of modern day life. The magical essence of the Golden Egg needs warmth, quiet, and time to unfold. No rushing, pushing, or grasping. Find a place of deep and restful ease, perhaps through yoga nidra or meditation. If you do not yet have a meditation practice, take some time for introspection or contemplation. When the mind begins to settle and the breath is calm, ask the question that weighs heaviest on your heart...staying open to any response you hear. Engaging with the energy of the Golden Egg is an advanced practice. It requires becoming intimate with our very essence and comfortable with vulnerability. When a feeling of tenderness or gratitude arises from deep within you, know that you are well on your way. Your chest may swell, like you are seeing an old friend that's been away for a long, long time. Listen to the message they've been waiting to tell you" (Krans, 2018, p. 193-194).Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/downwithmydemons)
