I'd Rather Go Blind'.

I am deeply saddened to learn that today Christine McVie died. At the start of this interview we did, I told her that, ling before she joined Fleetwood Mac, her version of I'd Rather Go Blind, with Chicken Shack, was a single I bought and loved. May her soul rest in peace.
Harry Tafoya and I were first-responders to the cultural terrorist attack launched on our nation in the form of the 2022 Whitney Biennale. Will we suffocate in the rubble? This time we're talking about episodes 3 and 4 of season two of reservations dogs. We give praise to the creators and storytellers who really know how to tell a good yarn and just chat it up about how good it is. We also confuse Eddie and Michael Spears, so our apologies to these fine actors. Also, Director Danis Goulet is Metis. We apologize for the confusion. Jason makes a cameo appearance to give us a synopsis run down until he has to leave for a better class of people. But, rest assured, he will be back. The music for this episode is:"I'd Rather Go Blind" by Kat Lock, from the album: "You Again"Thanks for listening.Remember, don't just be real, be REEL INDIGENOUS!Yakoke!
This episode is one I've been grappling with for many years. It's hard to see friendships go, especially the ones we were in for the long haul. The truth is, death is a natural process to the flow of life and that goes for anything that ends...which is everything. Death of friendships can come about in many different ways. It could end in a drag out blow out. It could end slowly over time and slip away into the abyss. Or it could be the realization that we are no longer in alignment with someone else and so we gracefully remove ourselves. We could at either end of these situations at any time and it doesn't hurt any less. The truth is, losing friendships sucks! In this episode, I discuss why and how these things happen, the relationship to age and maturity, and touch on a few ways that I have experienced this in my own life. Just know, it's ok that friendships die. It's all part of this thing we call life. Please follow, subscribe, share, or leave a review! I hope you enjoy and I'll see you next time. This podcast celebrates the prolific female blues music from the early 1920's to present times. This show entitled “I'd Rather Go Blind” is curated by the visionary leader of the bands Gross-Mongue, Space Pocket and Born IV Blues … Diego Mongue. Diego is my oldest child, and at the ripe old age of 19, he's also the youngest member of the Misty Blues extended family and performs, records and co-composes pieces with the band.

She was born Adele Laurie Blue Adkins in London in 1988. In 2002 she won a place at the BRIT School for Performing Arts where she studied music and developed her performing and song writing skills.

Hello nomads and welcome to our discussion about one of our favorite indie games from back in 2016, Firewatch. Firewatch is a fairly short game that takes 4-5 hours to play, and it was made by a super talented, yet small team, Camp Santo. This game has great music, fantastic art direction, great acting, and an unforgettable story. We highly suggest you play the game before listening to this show.Poor Henry, maybe we'll meet you and Delilah once again if they ever make the film adaption. Or maybe this story is best left to be a short, sweet, and mysterious little game that made everyone escape their life for a couple hours.Safe travels, nomads.----------------Act 1: Catchup - Batman: Arkham Asylum, Metroid Dread, Amico (1:15)Act 2: Firewatch Discussion (14:50)Act 3: Game Time! - (1:15:57)Music Credits: Chris Remo - Firewatch Original ScoreEtta James - I'd Rather Go Blind

February is Black History Month and we’re featuring stories of black female artists through history. KVCR’s Shareen Awad talks about legendary singer Etta James and her numerous accomplishments. Etta James was born Jamesetta Hawkins in Los Angeles. Her mother always encouraged her to sing, telling her, “even if a song has been done a thousand times, you can still bring something of your own to it.” And that she did. By the time she was 5 years old, Etta James was already well known in the church and on the radio, as a gospel prodigy. At 12, she formed a singing trio and worked for bandleader Johnny Otis with the Otis Band. It wasn’t long before the determined vocalist launched her solo career with the hit "Good Rockin' Daddy" in 1955. Etta James is best known for her powerful, earthy vocals, belting out hits like "I'd Rather Go Blind" and "At Last." She won numerous Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Billboard listed Etta James as one of The 35

I happen to be a bigger fan of early Fleetwood Mac, than latter-day Fleetwood Mac. They were one of the first groups I saw in concert as a kid. But common to both, at some stage, was the voice of Christine McVie. I even loved and bought her Chicken Shack single, I'd Rather Go Blind! So it was a delight to have this half-hour phone chat with Christine in which we discuss Fleetwood Mac old and new, and, yes, Rumours one of the best-selling albums of all time.
When Wayne Shorter tragically lost his wife in an airplane crash, he vowed to live an even happier life with the help of an ancient philosophy: Nam Myōhō Renge Kyō. He talks with Garrett about Buddhism, what it means to find "zero gravity", and what it means to make allies out of demons and devils. Johnathan Gibbs is the special guest co-host, and helps Garrett tackle the topics of #EndSars, the MET's inability to pay its musicians, and more. In this week's episode of Shuffology, our three Shuffologists, Asabi Goodman, Josh Daveta, and Liam Madden construct a playlist of their favourite cover songs.EPISODE NOTES: This week, the theme is cover songs, and our Shuffologists pick some iconic and lesser known covers favourites. From Britney Spears' rendition of Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative," to the Chris Stapleton cover of David Allen Coe's "Tennessee Whiskey" (set to the tune of Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind"). We also get another version of the Wiggles' "Wiggle Bay" by Dead Letter Chorus and that iconic Dolly Parton tune, "I Will Always Love You." In this week's "Issa Flop" segment, we mention an old rock n roll tune, another Britney redo, and Madonna's attempt to reclaim the early 70s.Episode 7 Playlist:The Loco-Motion - Kylie MinogueValerie - Ra Ra Riot ft Delicate SteveTennessee Whiskey - Chris StapletonLike a Virgin - Caught a GhostI Will Always Love You - Whitney HoustonWithout You - Mariah CareyMy Prerogative - Brittney SpearsHow Come You Don't Call Me - Alicia KeysMad World - Gary JulesTorn - Natalie ImbrugliaTwo of Us - Neil & Liam FinnYou Have To Hide Your Love Away - Eddie VedderAddicted - Paul DempseyWiggle Bay - Dead Letter ChorusSledgehammer - Ninja Sex PartyIssa Flop:Hound Dog - Elvis PresleyI Love Rock n Roll - Britney SpearsAmerican Pie - MadonnaSubscribe to us on ITUNES, STITCHER, SPOTIFY, RADIOPUBLIC or your podcatcher of choice.Find us on FACEBOOK, TWITTER or INSTAGRAM.Become a Patron of That’s Not Canon Productions at Patreon! On this episode of the Rock n Roll Librarian, Shelley tells Christian all about the book RAGE TO SURVIVE: THE ETTA JAMES STORY. One of the great women of American music, Etta was equally at home singing blues, R&B, and jazz, and gave us such amazing songs as “I'd Rather Go Blind”, “Tell Mama”, and “At Last”. She regales us with riveting stories of her chaotic youth in Los Angeles, her teen years in San Francisco's Fillmore district, and her troubled trip to stardom. From being discovered at age five singing in her church choir, to her first hit record, to her work and friendships with Sam Cooke, Little Richard, Aretha Franklin, and other stars of the Golden Age of Soul, Etta relates with brutal honesty her struggle with drugs, her childhood dealing with an elusive and unstable mother, and her lifelong trouble with brutal and controlling men. A riveting story told in Etta's own unvarnished and humorously right-on words.By Etta James and David RitzDa Capo Press, 1995#EttaJames #ChessRecords #Rhythm&Blues #JohnnyOtis #JohnnyGuitarWatson #FillmoreDistrict #MarvinGaye #SamCooke #LittleRichard #JackieWilson #TheMoonglows #ArethaFranklin #TinaTurner #BillieHolliday #Jazz #Blues #SouthCentralThis show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.

If given a choice between sipping whiskey and going blind, the answer is pretty clear. But when listening to Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind” and Chris Stapleton’s cover of “Tennessee Whiskey”, things get a little fuzzier. Join Joe and Toby as they wind through the connections between these two tracks.

Syleena Johnson's highly anticipated book shares her compelling journey toward self-love and discovery, while chronicling her battles with body image birthed in adolescence and carried throughout her music career. An ode to obstacles faced and conquered, this self-help book sets an indelible tone for reflection, resurgence, and redemption.Syleena Johnson is one of those undeniable talents whose unfaltering truth shines through every note she sings. Undoubtedly one of the best singers of her generation, Johnson has collaborated with everyone from Kanye West and Common to Anthony Hamilton and R. Kelly. In recent years she has enjoyed mainstream exposure appearing on such television shows as TV One’s “R&B Divas: Atlanta” and WE TV’s “Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars” and as of September 18, 2017 Syleena is featured on the new TEGNA Media/ TV One daily live talk show “Sister Circle.” On November 10, 2017 Shanachie Entertainment will release REBIRTH OF SOUL, a recording that Syleena has long wanted to bring to fruition. Conceived and produced by her father, the legendary soul/blues singer and producer Syl Johnson, whose original hit version of “Take Me To The River” was covered by Al Green and Talking Heads. Everyone from Jay-Z and Kanye West to Wu-Tang and Usher has sampled Syl Johnson’s recordings. REBIRTH OF SOUL features Syleena Johnson’s searing interpretations of classic R&B songs, mainly from the Fifties and Sixties, recorded in real time with live musicians just the way “real music” used to be made. As Syl Johnson notes,“people don’t use live musicians much anymore; but every musician brings his heart to a recording.” Recording in Chicago, Syl Johnson’s long-time base and Syleena’s hometown, the sessions include musicians who played on hit R&B recordings there over the years and a majority of the album features songs associated with Chicago artists, songwriters or record labels. Syleena shares, “The inspiration behind REBIRTH OF SOUL is my father. I wanted to honor him and classic soul music in a time when auto tune and electronic beats reign supreme. While I am not against this kind of creative musicianship, there is so much more to the real thing. True Soul music tells stories…stories that can heal a nation.”As an artist who came of age during the 90’s hip-hop era and broke through in the early 2000’s, Syleena had never actually recorded live in the studio previously. “The difference with this album,” Syleena relates, “ is that I had the opportunity to record with live instrumentation as well as actual musicians from the (classic) era. On this album I didn’t write any of the songs and it was the first time in a while that I worked with my father. I had to tap into the soul and spirit of the era of each song to bring authenticity to the project.” The songs on REBIRTH OF SOUL, hand-picked by Syl Johnson, run the gamut from lesser-known gems such as Betty Everett’s “There’ll Come A Time,” Syl Johnson’s “We Did It” and Bettye Swann’s “Make Me Yours” to such landmark hits as “Chain of Fools” and “I’d Rather Go Blind,” done definitively by Aretha Franklin and Etta James respectively. Syleena manifests an uncanny ability to get inside of each song, digging deep to deliver passionate performances that bring a fresh spark to even the best known selections. “For each song I channeled the emotions of the record,” Syleena confides. “I put myself in the mind of each storyteller and in doing this I was able to merge myself into the story of each record. This is how I was able to put my own personal stamp on each record.”"The Weight is Over" is now available through Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HRQM89Z/https://www.syleenamusic.comhttp://www.sheleanlife.comSocial media @syleenajohnson*Thank you Syleena for taking time out of your busy schedule to speak with me. As entrepreneurs and creatives, we know the feeling of pouring our whole heart into our work. Of devoting all our attention to the project at hand in pursuit of something greater than ourselves. How do we balance that quest for our best work with the desire to nurture our long-term, loving relationships? How do we make room for the people we love—and love us back? What if the qualities necessary to sustain our long-term, loving relationships are the very same qualities we use to sustain our commitment to the creative path? On this episode of Tracking Wonder, Jeffrey is joined by Susan Piver, renowned Shambhala Buddhist teacher, New York Times bestselling author, and founder of the world’s largest virtual mindfulness community, the Open Heart Project. Susan shares the significance of bringing a constant curiosity to our loving relationships, explaining how the practice of love demands an attention not on the extraordinary, but on the familiar and ordinary. She offers insight around the four noble truths of love, the challenges of standing in love versus falling in love, and the idea of meeting instability together. Listen in to understand why long-term love doesn’t have to be in battle with one or both partners’ devotion to creative work and learn and learn how mindfulness is the practice of love.
