Cole interviews Laura Rodas about her incredible recovery from her husband being murdered, and the process of taking pills to “deal with the pain” to becoming a powerful trainer in Grief Recovery. Connect with Laura here: https://www.griefrecoverymethod.com/about-us/laura-rodas Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laurarodas_sv?igsh=eGRlc2VqcW5pMXM0 More about Laura Rodas: Laura's husband was murdered in 2007. Her world crumbled, and it was a time of darkness, suffering, and loneliness. It was through Grief Recovery Method that she came to understand that emotional losses and unexpected changes are a natural part of life, however strong and excruciating or unnoticeable they may be. She discovered that acknowledging and being in touch with her emotions was the only way to confront and survive this situation, filled with pain, anxieties, and sadness. Laura holds a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and went on to develop as a professional in the management and promotion of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in her country. Later, she established a successful corporate event-planning company, which managed the most relevant national and international events in the country. However, she always felt the desire to share Grief Recovery with others. In 2016, she began her journey to become a Grief Recovery Method Specialist, in addition to being an Executive and LP Coach, and a Meta-Master in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Neurosemantics from the International Society of Neuro-Semantics. Laura loves her work as an executive coach in the private sector and as an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist and Bilingual Trainer of the Method in Spanish and English, aiming to reach as many people as possible and improve their quality of life by effectively managing emotional losses.  Cole James, President of the Grief Recovery Institute, shares about the Power of Grief Recovery! Cole is dedicating his life to help people with grief. Now, grief is much more than just losing someone. Did you know that? You've probably heard of the Five Stages of Grief, right? Well, this goes much deeper than you think. Let me explain. Everyone has some type of grief in their lives, some haven't yet, but it's part of life. We can't escape it, BUT we can work through it. And you don't have to do it alone. Let's talk about it. We have trained Grief Recovery Method Specialists, who help heartbroken people, in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, the Middle East, Central America, South America, and North America. The Grief Recovery Method Certification Program is taught and available in multiple languages including: English, Spanish, Swedish, Hungarian, Ukrainian, and Russian. Our home office is in the United States and serves English-speaking nations and populations around the world, such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Commonwealth Nations. In addition, we have international affiliate offices in Sweden, Australia, Mexico, and Hungary. Our goal is to help as many people as possible, which is why our books have been translated into over 30 languages including: Spanish, French, Dutch, Portuguese, Japanese, Ukrainian, Russian, and many more. Through the Grief Recovery Handbook and translations, interviews on radio and TV, public appearances and talks, web traffic, and various programs we offer, we have reached tens of millions of people with our message of hope and recovery from significant emotional loss. In this episode the Woo Crew welcomes special guest Ellie McFalls to talk about grief in a light hearted informative manner. Ellie is an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist with the Grief Recovery Program, Hypnotherapist and EFT (also known as tapping) Practitioner. Brenda, Camille and Rosalie have had the pleasure of working with Ellie and will talk about their experiences and the benefits of her programs.  Camille starts out with a general question, “What is grief?” Ellie “Grief is anything you wanted to be different, better, or more. Think about it, anything in your life that didn't turn out the way you wanted it to, I wish I could have done that better. We suffer over the loss of that.”   Some people think grief is just suffering the loss of a loved one but it is so much more. Death of a person or pet, divorce (death of a relationship) emotional loss (empty nest, retirement) loss of youth. There is much more to grief. We discuss the symptoms of grief. Most of us are familiar with crying and depression, but there can also be anger, hostility, sleeping all the time/not sleeping, being sick all the time. Being sick is a form of avoidance so that you don't have to deal with the situation at hand.  Camille tells how she first met Ellie and went through her Grief Recovery Method program. She relocated from Texas to the Triad of NC. She knew she had to deal with her grief after losing several family members in close proximity. She found Ellie's card and put it in her purse and ignored it for a while. Upon visiting a local Woo Woo shop when someone opened the door a gust of wind blew the business cards on the counter all over the floor. One landed on Camille's foot, it was Ellie's card! She promptly called the next day and started her grief recovery. Guilt is commonly associated with grief. Ellie shares that the definition of guilt is harming someone on purpose. It is intentional harm. She explains that we are using inaccurate terminology. Disappointed is a better descriptor, it takes the blame away from it.  Alexandra asks a question about “survivor's guilt”. Brenda suggests changing it to survivors grief and Elile says changing it to survivors disappointment would be most accurate. Ellie says you had nothing to do with the person's death, it was an accident but your subconscious takes it on as real. By changing the words from guilt to disappointment it gives it a whole new meaning and energy vibration. Brenda talks about her Grief recovery sessions with Ellie and she says she was surprised by the person she needed to work on in her recovery. She said it was a person that she really loved and admired. Since she went through the program her relationship has shifted and she is able to be more open in convastions and they have been receptive to what she had to say. It has been a healing experience for Brenda. She has more compassion for people and where they are because of their life experiences.   If you are dealing with grief (disappointment) about anything in your life please reach out to Ellie or do your own research on The Grief Recovery Method. It was truly transformative for the ones of us who have experienced it. It is a great method to have in your tool belt to use when life sends you another disappointment. It gives you the formula and then you just have to do the work. Cheers to us as we learn and grow together. How is it that so much of what codependents go through is grief? What are the 5 Stages of Grief and how do codependents experience them? How can addressing our grief help us not repeat our codependummy patterns in relationships?   In this podcast episode, Marissa speaks with Lesleigh J. Tolin, M.S., Grief Recovery Specialist about the interconnection between codependency and grief. Experts on codependency have suggested that codependents experience grief often in their relationships and Lesliegh is here to help us understand how. You'll hear her share with us about her own experiences with codependency, how she defines it, and the variety of grief experiences we can have (you'll be surprised!). Lesleigh adds why it is important for us to address our grief and ways you can start to do so today.    Thanks for listening!    About this episode's guest:    Lesleigh J. Tolin is trained as a psychotherapist and certified Grief Recovery Specialist. She is based in Los Angeles and works with clients in the US and internationally by teaching them the eight-week Grief Recovery Method online to help them cope with loss while also changing their knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors about grief. Lesleigh herself has experienced an inordinate amount of losses and has a passion for helping others transform their own.   Lesleigh's information: Lesleighjtolin.com www.instagram.com/lesleigh.tolin www.linkedin.com/in/lesleigh-j-tolin-ms-counseling-psychology-02433021 www.facebook.com/LesleighJTolin   More deets on this week's episode:   Question 1: How does Lesleigh define codependency? "Codependency is a very emotional condition in which what we each do is we frequently give up ourselves for the needs of others. Again and again and again. That's learned behavior for those of us who may have been traumatized early in life at home...we become so frightened that what we begin to do is give up ourselves so we can please others to stay safe."   Question 2: How has Lesleigh experienced that in her own life? "I'm an open book about it." Lesleigh shares with Marissa and listeners about growing up in an alcoholic home where she witnessed physical and emotional abuse. "I was always the peacemaker and it was my job to make sure everything was okay..."   *random observation: Lesleigh is so open about her parents. Marissa shares her envy.   Question 3:  In her book, Codependent No More, Melody Beattie writes about codependency and grief. For Lesleigh, how are codependency and the grief process related? "Two thoughts to share: the Five Stages of Grief and how codependency and grief relate." Lesleigh describes the five stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. And what is grief? Not just the loss of a loved one. It's getting dumped, getting fired, dealing with a pandemic, moving to a new city, graduating from school, etc. The list truly goes on and on! "If we don't' heal from the trauma [from previous losses], we are going to repeat the process."   "If we are being codependent, we are sad because we are giving up ourselves for others." That giving up is a loss!   Question 4: What are some other types of grief we should be mindful of? Lesleigh discusses her mentor and trainer, John James, and his definition of grief: The conflicting mass of emotions we have when anything familiar in our life changes. When an alcoholic gets sober, when a relative develops dementia, when we go into lockdown due to a pandemic, etc. What comes up as you hear the list??? If you relate, it's okay since Lesleigh normalizes how we are "broken-hearted but not broken."   Question 5:  What IS the Grief Recovery Method? Lesleigh describes her specialty, how it was founded, and ways she helps codependents work through their grief with the 8-step process. "The program is simple. It's a structured, short-term, compassionate, action and evidence-based program for any one who is walking through any kind of a loss." She helps them develop a "tool box" that they develop while coping with a grief or loss in their past and then are able to utilize moving forward.    Question 6: How can dealing with grief help cope with a codependent loss? Lesleigh discusses how the loss of former partner or routine often leads us to feel helpless: "we are not taught what to do when we lose others." Lesleigh helps them create a new sense of self where they are empowered and stop getting into codependent relationships over and over.    Question 7: How has the pandemic compounded our grief? Lesleigh talks about the "tragedy we walked through collectively." For those of you who are codependent, the losses you had this past year were far more difficult to cope with since we were in lockdown! If you struggled, it's okay baby girl.    www.codependummy.com https://www.instagram.com/therapywithmarissa/ Email marissa@codependummy.com to come on The Codependummy Dilemma!

We intellectualize our grief.  Imagine if we went into our heart?  According to Charlene Gorzela, Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist, moving into the heart is the key to recovery from our grief. She also knows people need to be listened to as they process their grief. How much do we listen in our day to day lives to others?   No time in modern history could be more important to process so much grief…which is coming up for many of us after going internal for the last year plus.  We can see the patterns in our grief and what they have held us back from discovering. Charlene is candid as she explains how long she went without a strong romantic relationship until she did the grief work on her dad, and then met her life partner.    Through the Grief Recovery Method, we can heal our collective grief and Charlene  provides simple practices to personally start to peel back the layers.  A very upbeat person who always has her hands into something new and spiritual, Charlene is interested in tackling grief in a loving upbeat way - a “heart with ears” approach.    One of the cornerstones of the practice is to get free from unresolved/incomplete grief to a powerful sense of resolve/completeness in their  relationships and feel a sudden change in their lives.  A big follower of the human potential movement, Charlene's goal is  to help free the griever to live a  life beyond their wildest dreams.     She also has a podcast called Grief Recovery Now with Charlene Gorzela and I was even a guest!  You can listen to my show here!  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/uncovering-sexual-abuse-trauma-with-kim-ohara/id1506839988?i=1000502444710   Are you burning to write a book but can't seem to get out of someday? I currently reside in Los Angeles, CA and am originally from Pittsburgh, PA.   As a passionate and certified Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist, I am here to guide you through the anguish of grief and to help lead you towards experiencing joy after loss.   The Grief Recovery Method helps grievers deal with those things they wish might have been different or better. It gives them the chance to address their dreams and hopes for the future, which is not the future they had planned. It helps them address the words left unspoken. It helps them with the lost relationship that they thought would cause them pain for the rest of their lives.   I work with clients in-person and online, via Zoom. I am also trained to run group sessions for those who are more comfortable having others working with them, or for residential settings where multiple clients are educated in group settings.   If there is one thing that I am familiar with, it is suffering. For so long I experienced the anguish of grief and loss.   My father died when I was 5 years old, very suddenly of a massive heart attack. I kissed him goodnight and when I awoke the next morning, poof, he was gone.   This trauma has had a lasting effect on me, and his death left me with a mentally ill, alcoholic mother, abuse, poverty, and neglect. I not only mourned the loss of my father but also the loss of my childhood. I carried these deep wounds with me into adulthood, and found my life tremendously limited across many aspects.   A friend referred me to the Grief Recovery Method program, and it's healing changed my life. I went on to be trained and certified in GR in order to share the healing and relief I was given with others - the freedom from suffering, anguish. and heartache.   I've come so far in my life and now am here to hold space for you and to guide your healing. -----------------   Want to level up your YouTube game? Do you understand grieving? Is grieving just about death? Thank you, Ann Allen, for joining me today. This series is on Grieving. Ann helps people get out of sadness and back into their life. She deals in recovery and moving forward and helps people redefine their life, blossom, get their lives back, and have a purpose, having a new life with identity. Going from despair to opening up a new life. Ann says that grief can be defined as your normal and natural emotional reaction to any loss that is significant to you. It may not be important to someone else but it is important to you. We will all experience over 42 different losses in our life. Loss and grief are so much more than death and dying. The ways we can understand grief for someone who has gone through loss are: 1) Everybody is different. Every relationship is unique. We have different ways of reacting. 2) There is no timeline, it is not necessarily linear. 3) We can't fix someone. We can support them and listen to them. It's about them. We may say things that are intellectually true, but they may not help people emotionally. Ann is able to be contacted on Linked In at this link. Everything changed for her at that moment and the emotional pain crushed her. Nothing prepared Anne-Marie or those around her for this life-shattering experience. As Anne-Marie struggled to understand herself and what she needed, she also had to help her friends understand. Out of necessity, she became a student of grief and during this process, her only child was struggling with mental health issues, another excruciating loss as she watched him suffer. She went on a journey to find meaning in her grief, to meet with it, embrace it, heal and find purpose. And it was transformational! Her experience, research, education and training in grief, loss and trauma has equipped her to work with grieving people in a powerful way.  She wrote an award-winning book called When Their World Stops: The Essential Guide to Truly Helping Anyone in Grief. Anne-Marie is an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist, Certified in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, a Certified Trauma Integrative Practitioner, a Grief and Mental Health Advocate and Founder of the Grief and Trauma Healing Network.   Her greatest joy is to take people on the same healing journey she experienced - to allow them to remember their loved one well but without suffering the excruciating pain. She creates a safe place to heal any unresolved grief with a six-session private or 2-day intensive program. She provides crisis support for businesses and training to therapists and counselors on grief and loss. She presents church workshops on Creating a Culture of Hope and Healing to equip churches to support the grieving in their congregation and community. She loves what she does and welcomes opportunities to help others understand grief and the grieving. Anne-Marie is living proof that you can go from barely surviving to thriving. Her message is one of hope and healing after a heartbreaking loss.  You may have changed. Your life may be changed, but life can still be good - and so can you.
