We are off and running this week with Busted Open’s Dave LaGreca. Fresh off his ass whipping at Mission Pro Wrestling courtesy of Thunder Rosa. The boys have some fun with Dave, but at the end of the day, Dave did an amazing job with this story, cut a killer promo, and took a beating like a champ. Plus Mission Pro Wrestling got a nice rub. Dave also busts on the boys. After Dave goes off to watch Raw, for some ungodly reason, we are joined by WCW mainstay Ice Train. We talk for almost an hour about everything from WCW, Fire and Ice, names changes ,beating JBL’s ass over in Germany and so much more. This is a great interview with an awesome talent who many of you may remember from the WCW days. After a commercial break the boys are back to talk AEW, Tony isn’t excited for Blood and Guts, Kevin is. A little bit in the to the WWE World, with the card shaping up for Wrestlemania Backlash, before we entertain the idea of MLW working with WWE/NXT. We talk about MLW Fusion, and try to figure out what aired on Vice this Saturday. We head over to the world of Impact Wrestling to see what the 1st Impact with Kenny Omega as World Champion is like, we talk about the 6 way match at Under Siege, the arrival of ELP, and who we want to see face off against Kenny Omega at Slammiversary. NWA Power is next up, Matt is annoyed at a segment or two. Overall Matt and Tony are down with NWA Power, and the next 30 days should be interesting, with Trevor Murdoch out, the tag team champs not on the same page, and the women’s division all over the place. Scripture passages: Numbers 21:4-9 & John 3:14-21 After Dave and Nina read the scripture passages, Tripp Helms provided the morning message during our Zoom service. Nicodemus came to Jesus to ask some questions and Jesus uses the example of the snake being lifted up in the wilderness by Moses to explain how he must also be lifted up. It’s another way of talking about the freshness and the joy and the peace that comes with Jesus. Jesus came and preached food for the hungry, healing for the sick, freedom for the captives in this life. Jesus didn’t come with talk just about the future. Eternal life begins now with God.

Episode 288 Dave Dravecky's story is one of hope, courage and perseverance in the midst of dark and overwhelming uncertainty. In 1988 Dave was at the top of his game and life. Not only did he have a wonderful family but he was reaching his all-star peak playing the game of his childhood dreams. His 5-1 opening day victory over the Dodgers was overshadowed later that fall by the discovery of cancer and the removal of half of the deltoid muscle in his pitching arm. For baseball fans worldwide Dave Dravecky etched his name into history on August 10, 1989. Defying all odds, after battling cancer in his pitching arm, Dave came back to pitch once again in the Major Leagues. People were on their feet cheering and anticipating the game while he stretched and warmed up. He became an inspiration not only to cancer fighters, but to all who needed hope that day. As Dave took the mound, no one could deny the miracle that was taking place. After being told by his doctors, "Short of a miracle, you'll never pitch again," Dave pitched a 4-3 win for the San Francisco Giants. Sadly, Dave's comeback was short-lived. Five days later, in Montreal, Dave threw " the pitch that could be heard round the world." Dave's arm had split in two. As he tumbled to the ground, his mind filled with doubt and fear. Little did he know that the dream he had since he was a little boy, was simply a platform for his purpose to share hope with the suffering around the world. Dave's triumphant defeat of the cancer and his return to the game of baseball is chronicled in his award winning book, Comeback, which has sold more than 650,000 copies. After Dave's comeback and fall from the mound, with the weakened bone, the cancer returned yet again. The arm was not going to get better at this point so Dave decided to retire from his dream, the game of baseball, in November of 1989. Slowly the treatment and the cancer ate away Dave's arm and simultaneously his career. Radiation treatment after radiation treatment resulted in a staph infection that placed a hole in the middle of his arm exposing bone. Finally, the arm along with Dave's shoulder blade and left side of his collar bone had to be amputated for fear the cancer would spread and take Dave's life. Because of the overwhelming response to their story and their desire to walk along side others who suffer, Dave and Jan founded Dave Dravecky's Outreach of Hope, a nonprofit organization in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Draveckys realized through their own experiences that one cannot battle cancer alone, so they have created this ministry to bring hope for those who hurt. On this episode of the podcast, we hear Dave's incredible story of a major league career cut short, hearing the word "cancer" for the first time, trusting God, doubting God, and how his faith ultimately saw him through his recovery. Two new big releases on the show this week. After Dave corrects a mistake he made in last week’s episode (re: whether TRESPASS by Genesis was released in 1970 or 1971), they get into THE WIFE (3:30), which features a fine performance by Jonathan Pryce and an EPIC Glenn Close performance. Kris and Dave disagree on how good it is (and Kris gets in a good dig at Dave at about 14:30), but they’re definitely on the same page about Close’s performance (also, Dave mixed up his pronouns at 20:59 and should have said, “He takes that from her,” not the other way around). Then it’s Shane Black’s THE PREDATOR (30:04), which everyone saw. Two-thirds of the guys hated it and one-third liked it. Occasionally we get lucky. The lords of travel reveal themselves favorable and a guest we've been wanting to speak with drops into our lap. This week we welcome long time listener, friend of the show, and incredibly talented drummer, Dave Johnstone. Dave was recently in town during a string of dates with Post Modern Jukebox sensation, Aubrey Logan. We were able to sit down with him at his hotel for a discussion about everything music. After Dave and Jon reminisce about their time in St. Louis we find out about his formative years and studies with Midwest teaching legend, Kevin Gianino. He talks about the defining moment of his lessons along with the different methods and concepts that Gianino used. We then move into his time in Boston at the Berklee College of Music. After talking about the enrollment process, audition recordings, and scholarships he received Dave discusses his private studies with Kenwood Dennard and Jon Hazilla. Dave also talks about the value of his music academic classes and performing in the many different ensembles in Berklee's catalog. During his time at Berklee Dave had the chance to attend the International Association of jazz Educators conference (now JEN) in Southern California which ultimately led him to relocating to where he now lives. Johnstone has firmly established himself as one of the first call players in the competitive LA scene. Aside from maintaining his regular gigs Dave also keeps a vibrant teaching schedule. We finish up by talking about his touring schedule with Aubrey Logan. We go through a typical day on the road and what his plans for the future entail. Then, quite expectedly, Dave runs through the gauntlet with the DWG Rorschach Test! We also look at a few potential party-crashers; teams that are good enough to win their conference even if they haven’t earned consideration for an at-large NCAA bid.  A couple of teams featured had high hopes coming into the season and seem to be hitting their stride at the right moment, could they have real sleeper potential? After Dave and I preview ASN’s featured Northeastern at Boston University game on Saturday night, I sit down with Northeastern Associate Head Coach Jerry Keefe to discuss the Huskies’ season, as well as their rise from Hockey East afterthoughts to conference competitors.  This week Sydney McKibbon has the hammer.  With the Women’s NCAA Tournament set to begin this weekend, I sit down with frontrunner Wisconsin’s senior captain Sydney McKibbon to discuss her career with the Badgers, the remarkable team she’s been a part of this year, the atmosphere remarkable WCHA Women’s Hockey Conference, and the mindset of a true NCAA Tournament favorite.

Hope, Dave, and Matt had an amazing weekend at the Asheville VeganFest presented by Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. Though we were only able to spend one of the two days at the event we saw some amazing speakers, heard some inspiring stories, and our very own vegan renegade was called into action to speak on the vegan athlete panel. We had some minor technical difficulties but streamed the event over Facebook, it was a great success with a lot viewers. If you somehow missed our streaming you can view them on our Facebook video page. A few of the speakers were able to make to the pre-party as well and we snagged them for a quick chat. Renee King-Sonnen: Rowdy Girl Sanctuary Matt Frazier: No Meat Athlete Jen Peer Patrik Baboumian: Strongman and world record holder We were also honored to have a few of these speakers sit down with us for a quick "one on two" after their talks. RENEE KING-SONNEN Renne from Rowdy Girl Sanctuary has an amazing story. She married into the Texas rancher way of life and in an attempt to find solidarity with her rancher husband she raised a calf. While doing so she became aware of it's sentience and began educating herself. Though she struggled to find balance with her internal battles and her marriage she hit a breaking point. Instead of he choice for compassion breaking down her relationship she turned her husband around and converted their cattle ranch into an animal sanctuary. MATT FRAZIER Matt Frazier is well known as the No Meat Athlete and has a popular podcast (just like us). Matt's transition was slow as he worked his way into a plant-based life. Our short chat with Matt ended up focusing on making small changes and working toward gradual improvement. He also shared how he raises his young children on a vegan diet but at the same time, not sweating the small stuff. PATRIK BABOUMIAN Patrik Baboumian is just as powerful as his name sounds. Considered the strongest man in German, one of the strongest in the world, and holding multiple world records you would assume he would be a meat eating powerhouse. Instead he's a plant eating vegan badass. After Dave fangirled we were still able to get a glimpse into Patriks view on diet, training, how his journey from a meat eater, vegetarian (eating 6lbs of cottage cheese), and finally a vegan was the best decision he's ever made. ASHEVILLE VEGANFEST WRAP UP We can't state how much we enjoyed our time at VeganFest and we look forward to working with Brother Wolf Animal Rescue more next year.
