Dane Tudor has had an incredible pro ski career that's been going on for 15+ years, and while he's getting older, Dane shows no sign of slowing down ski-wise, and no brands seem to care for some reason. When I say no signs of slowing down, in 2009, when Dane was 19, he won “Male Performance of the Year,” a huge award in skiing. Then, in 2023, 15 years later, Dane won that same coveted award again. While that's so rare, so is the fact that while he's always found success in both Moto and skiing, nothing has ever been easy for him on the sponsor end. Maybe it's because he didn't grow up with a dad or because he was always traveling between Canada and Alaska and was isolated with homeschooling…I try and find out the answers on the show, and Colston VB asks the Inappropriate Questions. Dane Tudor Show Notes: 5:00:  Speedo's, born into adventure in AK and Aus, the impact of not having a dad, and Red Mountain 11:00:  Homeschooling, Colston VB and the 2nd gen of the New School, self-confidence, attitude, and quitting ski racing 20:00 Stanley:  Get up 60% off at Stanley1913.com Best Day Brewing:  All of the flavor of your favorite IPA or Kolsch, without the alcohol, the calories and sugar. 23:00:  Pro Moto dreams, back to extreme comps, then park, sponsors, filming with Theory 3,  PBP, and Alaska,     Elan Skis:  Over 75 years of innovation that makes you better. 41:00:  Peter Glenn Ski and Sports:  Over 60 years of getting you out there. Welcome to Director Watch! On this AwardsWatch podcast, co-hosts Ryan McQuade and Jay Ledbetter attempt to breakdown, analyze, and ultimately, get inside the mind of some of cinema's greatest auteurs. In doing so, they will look at their filmographies, explore what drives them artistically and what makes their decision making process so fascinating. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On this special episode of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by the Head of Content for The Ringer and co-host of The Big Picture podcast Sean Fennessey to give out the first awards for a Director Watch series, the PTA Awards. Towards the end of last year, Ryan and Jay set out to cover the films of writer, director Paul Thomas Anderson, thus breaking down one of the great modern filmographies of any contemporary director. In doing this, they talked about dozens of great performances, lines of dialogue, needle drops, favorite scenes, and so much more. So it only made sense to come back one more time to the world of PTA to break down and single out the various categories and reasons why they love PTA's films. Joined by Sean (a fellow lover of PTA's work), they discuss give out awards ranging from Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Needle Drop, Best Scene, the PTA Acting Muse award, Most Valuable Collaborator, and talk about the actor they would love to see in a future PTA film that hasn't already worked with the director. It was a very loose, fun conversation that we hope you all enjoy. You can listen to the Director Watch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 1h27m. The guys will be back later this week to continue their series covering the films of William Friedkin with a review of his next film, The French Connection. You can stream the film on Max. You can rent it via iTunes and Amazon Prime rental in preparation for the next episode of Director Watch. Till then, let's get into it. This week on 5.6.7.EIGHT, Aleksandra interviews Chase Johnsey, award-winning dancer and Artistic Director at Ballet de Barcelona, who is using his influence in the ballet world to advocate for LGBTQ+ gender issues. Johnsey has danced for some high-profile ballet companies, including a lengthy stint with the world renown Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo and the English National Ballet. While at the latter, Chase was nominated by the UK’s National Dance Awards for Best Male Performance and Best Male Dancer, ultimately winning the latter. Chase’s story is one of perseverance and determination. Being the first gender fluid dancer to dance in a conventional ballet company, Chase’s journey to ballet prominence was “the road less traveled,” and he experienced a degree of pushback and adversity that very few experience. However, even in the face of the odds, Chase pressed on and achieved great heights in the ballet world, including founding his own ballet company. On the podcast, Chase retells his whole story and shares some wise words around tuning out the haters and walking your own path.   Moving Quotes: “You can’t give up on yourself." "My favorite word in the English language is ‘perseverance.’ There’s always a way — nothing is impossible." “I’m really proud that, in my ballet company, my self-acceptance has filtered into my dancers’ self-acceptance." “Never let your ego stop your progress… Every day, you go and make a tiny bit of progress. And after 365 days, you’ll have a lot of progress. Keep going forward. Keep getting better." “I wasn’t going to let anyone else decide my life — what I’m capable of, what I’m going to do."  “I want to make works that challenge. I don’t want fairy tale, land of the sweets. I want to make art that really is current — that addresses real issues — that not only kids can relate to but also adults." “I’m a stubborn person, and I knew that there was a place for me in the ballet world. And it was a decision that I made. I told myself, ‘I will find a place for myself in the ballet world, no matter what anyone else tells me.’"   Bullet Points (w/ timestamps) - Highlighting key topics discussed: 3:28: Johnsey explains why he decided to move to Barcelona from the United States and how his ballet company — Ballet de Barcelona — came to be. 5:18: Chase discusses a dark time in his life prior to starting his own ballet company and what ultimately helped him overcome this hardship. 9:53: Chase shares the overarching vision for his ballet company — to establish an inclusive environment that uses its art to discuss real world issues. 12:36: Johnsey retells his ballet journey — what introduced him to and kept him in the ballet and how one of his earliest teachers was particularly influential in getting him where he is today. 15:15: Johnsey describes his experience dancing for the world renown Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. 17:17: Chase discusses the adversity he has had to overcome in his career — how the odds were always against him — yet how grit and determination has helped him achieve the unthinkable. 21:42: Chase describes the emotion of being nominated for two of the United Kingdom’s top arts awards and ultimately winning one of them. 24:36: Chase shares some of his most proud moments, including a notable event from his dance company and his involvement some incredible humanitarian efforts. 27:52: Johnsey gives some advice to aspiring dance professionals around staying humble and authentic. 30:46: Chase discusses some personal and professional goals he’d like to achieve within the next 5 years.   Bullet List of Resources –  Chase Johnsey LinkedIn Instagram Ballet de Barcelona Company Websi.te Instagram Facebook YouTube
