What ignites the creation of a memorial service product that embodies personal stories and environmental consciousness? Life Art's innovative cremation containers, introduced by Nikki Nordine and Brent Thorson of TerryBear, bring a new dimension to honoring loved ones with personalized, eco-friendly designs. Inspired by global trends and consumer demands for sustainability and personalization, these containers offer families a dignified send-off that transcends the conventional cardboard box. This unique product allows for an aesthetic that beautifully encapsulates a life well-lived. Key Takeaways 1. The company TerryBear was founded by a man named Terry, who initially started by selling plush teddy bears. Over time, the business pivoted to importing brass ware, which led to the development of pet urns after discovering a specific use case by a client. TerryBear is now a major urn and memorial item distributor. 2. The industry has evolved from offering limited options like bronze and hardwood urns to a broad range of materials, including brass and eco-friendly options. This evolution reflects a shift towards meeting consumer demand for personalization and eco-conscious products. 3. LifeArt is a cremation container product that combines eco-friendliness with personalization, using designs that reflect individuals' lives. LifeArt aims to offer a more celebratory and fitting send-off than traditional cardboard cremation boxes. 4. Consumer preferences and internet searches have greatly influenced the trends in the funeral industry, with increasing demand for personalized and environmentally friendly options. Companies like TerryBear are responding by developing products that meet these contemporary needs. 5. The future of the funeral industry is leaning towards complete personalization, allowing families to create cremation containers that fully capture the life story of their loved ones. This concept emphasizes the importance of choice and individual expression within funeral practices. Alison Lapper was pregnant with her son Parys when she famously – and controversially – posed naked for a statue that was displayed on Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth in 2005. Alison was born with phocomelia, meaning she has no arms and shortened legs, and uses her mouth to create her artwork. Her career was tragically interrupted in 2019 when her son, Parys, died aged 19. He had developed severe mental health issues and died of an accidental overdose. In this moving interview, Alison tells Emma Tracey why it's taken her five years to start to process her grief and the exhibition she has put together about her son, called Lost in Parys. She also talks about the making of Alison Lapper: In My Own Words - a new BBC documentary about her life which you can watch on BBC iPlayer. Rising from the projects of Camden New Jersey, Art led the University of Kentucky to some of its greatest heights ever, and was the number two overall pick in the NFL draft by the Chiefs. Though operating in the same avant-garde circle as Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, and others, Alfred Sisley never achieved their level of fame and financial success during his lifetime. In this episode, we'll explore the life, artistic career, and tragic end of this dedicated painter of subtle French landscapes. We'll trace Sisley's origins, his pivotal role in the Impressionist exhibitions of the 1870s-80s, and his perpetual struggles to sell his naturalistic depictions of the provinces despite support from dealer Paul Durand-Ruel. Personal tragedies like his father's death and cancer diagnosis added to Sisley's melancholy in later years. A detailed 1897 retrospective exhibition failed to gain traction, leaving Sisley deeply disheartened before he died in 1899 at age 59. We'll examine how Sisley's modest, poetic vision and quiet dedication to capturing nature's fleeting beauty ultimately couldn't overcome the public's resistance to Impressionism. As we contrast Sisley's resigned approach with Claude Monet's fierce self-promotion, opportunism, and cultivation of patronage, a stark difference emerges. Sisley's modest, poetic vision and quiet dedication to capturing nature's fleeting beauty couldn't overcome the public's resistance to Impressionism. In contrast, Monet's strategic moves helped establish Impressionism. What lessons can today's artists take from these divergent paths? Join us for an insightful look at this 'forgotten Impressionist' and the qualities that allowed Monet's light to shine brighter. For more, visit www.malcolmdeweyfineart.com

That's right folks, it's time to talk about the artist we all love and hate and love to hate! Andy Warhol is a character from a book he wrote about himself, an enigma who's human but also is not but also is? Your hosts have a hard time making up our minds about this Marketer Turned Artist and we express those thoughts very loudly and brashly, as you would expect from us. So join us as we talk about his best times and his worst times, his prints and his plagiarism, and most of all, the role he played to shape the capitalist art world hellscape that we live in now. Things have changed, but we're changing with it. Donate. Sign petitions. Support Black-owned businesses. Challenge racism. Educate yourselves. Listen. Speak. Repatriate. Stay Safe. In this Conversations With Healers episode, my guest is Mark Borax, Astrologer, Creator of Soul Level Astrology, Poet, Writer, Psychic, Creator and Captain of the College Of Visionaries And Wizards, and the Author of The Ruby Heart Of The Dragon - Sun Signs For Our Times. I have the great privilege of being one of Mark's students at his 3-year Astrology certification program in the College Of Visionaries And Wizards. If you are new to Astrology (or not), this is a conversation that will open up doors for you to deepen your connection to your soul through the art of Astrology. Mark and I had a fascinating conversation about: - 12 life arts of Astrology that Mark breaks down in his book, - What Astrological nodes mean and how you can begin to work with them in your own life, - What karma is and how it can enhance your soul journey, - How life art and Astrological chart art intersect, - What love and soul have to do with Astrology readings, - And so much more. You can find out more about Mark and his Astrology readings and 3-year chart study program at his website https://markborax.com/. I highly recommend his book The Ruby Heart Of The Dragon - Sun Signs For Our Times to anyone who is interested in Astrology: https://amzn.to/448vJmI (affiliate link) With love and light, Damla
Brahma Prakash's book Body on the Barricades: Life, Art and Resistance in Contemporary India (LeftWord, 2023) is an interesting gaze into life, art, and resistance in contemporary India. Through a wide canvas of contemporary events, the book has tried to look at how barricade becomes a symbol of excessive policing as well as a metaphor for containment. The book also reflects upon marginalized identities and the conflicting narratives of such identities with the State; which unfolds almost like a horror story. The book has interestingly engaged with each of such suppressive events through the affect it generates on the victimized body. The book has beautifully captured bodily acts like breathing, mourning, dancing, singing, and other creative expression as an act of resistance. Thus, resistance becomes an act that is not just visible out there, but it also becomes an inward experience. The book has lucid language, yet it is written with a sense of authenticity, that dares to speak out. The book ends with a clarion call for hope among the despair that prevails. The author has ensured that every narrator who has been a victim gets enough space to think about their acts of resistance, rather than being a passive dead protagonist lying on the barricade. In this week's episode, Raquel and Jennifer talk to Elizabeth Mikotowicz. In her 20s, Elizabeth barely survived a very violent relationship which resulted in a severe injury and a prescription from her doctor for opioids that she was not allowed to refuse (she was threatened with child protective services because she was pregnant and refusing medical advice). Elizabeth eventually went to federal prison for a nonviolent drug charge. 5 years ago Elizabeth was painting murals as a federal inmate; now she has had her own art shows and has launched an environmentally friendly clothing brand based on her art. Prison opened her eyes to the systemic racism, cruelty, corruption, and inequality in the US. Now she tries to expose what she witnessed and endured in order to get necessary legislation passed. Elizabeth created her women's clothing brand (EPM Clothing) during her healing journey and she wants to help people from all walks of life do the same. Elizabeth is also in the process of editing her memoir and creating an adult coloring book based on PTSD and what she has learned from her trauma. Today's interviewee on this episode of the Positive Enterprise Value Podcast is Heidi Feinstein. Heidi is the CEO of Hearth Food Garden, a startup business in formation which will open its European style food market on the street level of 60 Penhallow Street in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire sometime in late 2022. Heidi, whose warmth and charisma oozes through in this podcast, previously was a super successful restaurateur as the Founder and CEO of Life Alive Cafes, which she called the Life Alive Urban Oasis and Organic Cafes, which she built into a very significant and successful business in the Boston area over 10 to 12 years. Regret – a feeling of sadness, repentance, or disappointment over something that has happened or been done.Eventually, all of us will die.In those final moments, we will have an opportunity to reflect on life.So many men will one day be on that death bed thinking “what if?”What if I had paid more attention to my kids? What if I had been a better husband? What if I had taken that chance to start a business? What if I had taken that hunting trip to Alaska I'd always dreamed of?A man filled with “what ifs” is one filled with regret. We have one shot at life, so missed opportunities can very well haunt us all the way to the grave. We must focus on a life with no regrets, which is why we need to start living today, in the present. In this episode of Untaming Masculinity, Dan and Brad discuss living a life free of regrets. They take about some of the steps they've taken to stop living for the future and start to focus on what matters in the here and now.In a wide-ranging conversation, they begin to dive into what regrets they've had, what they are doing to ensure they don't have regrets moving forward, and how men can simply live in the present, focused on what matters. It starts with a mindset shift, but the rest is up to you to execute. If we live only for tomorrow, we'll have a lot of empty yesterdays today.Show Notes & ResourcesUnfu*ck Yourself – Gary John BishopTuesdays With Morrie – Mitch AlbomEpisode 825: Tactics and Mindset Shifts for Making The Most of Life (Art of Manliness)Subscribe and ShareSubscribe to our YouTube channelConnect with Dan on Instagram and TwitterConnect with Brad on Instagram and TwitterFollow Untaming Masculinity on Instagram and TwitterJoin the Untaming Masculinity Facebook GroupPlease leave us a rating and review
