Send us a textWelcome back to the conclusion of my interview with retired Las Vegas Metro Lieutenant Randy Sutton. Most cops, including myself, have a recurring nightmare of being in a gunfight and their firearm malfunctioning or their rounds hitting the bad guy with no effect. My guest on today's show lived that nightmare, going toe to toe with a gunman less than a few feet away from him, with his pistol malfunctioning, and once he cleared his weapon, the rounds hitting, but having no effect. All the while the bad guy was firing his gun at him so closely he could see the fire coming out the barrel. Lt. Sutton joined the Princeton Police Department at 19 years of age, becoming one of the youngest Police Officers in the state. He served the town for ten years before joining the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, where he served for almost 24 years, retiring at the rank of lieutenant. It's amazing how movie franchises start off so tame and heavy, then turn into action porn two movies later. Well, the Rambo series did the same and had an ACAB storyline too. Blake Lives Matter.  Blue Lives Matter.  All Lives Matter.  There's a war of inflammatory language that's stirring tension, and losing the message.  In this week's really white question for a black guy, we ask him what the message is that he feels most needs to be heard, and what he thinks about all the other messages.

BETSY BRANTNER SMITH JOINS DAWN LIVE - BETSY RESPONDS TO THE THIN BLUE LINE RULING IN PA - AS WELL AS THE CRIME TRENDS AND HOPE IN PHILADELPHIA FOLLOWING A NEW MAYOR IN OFFICE (The Philadelphia Inquirer)A Montgomery County (Pennsylvania) township cannot bar police and municipal employees from displaying the “thin blue line” flag, a federal judge ruled this week.The ruling comes after Pennsylvania's largest police union filed a lawsuit in January, alleging that leaders in Springfield Township had violated the Constitution by banning the flag. Adopted by some police departments and their supporters after 2020′s mass protests over police brutality, the flag depicts a black-and-white American flag with one blue stripe, and has been tied to the “Blue Lives Matter” slogan used by supporters of law enforcement... Springfield Township officials banned its employees from displaying the flag on township property in January, saying that the flag had become central to tensions between marginalized communities and law enforcement, and adding that it had been adopted by white nationalists since its introduction. The National Police Association, a non profit that supports law enforcement officers across the U.S., has supported efforts in Florida and Colorado that keep Homeowners Associations from banning Thin Blue Line flags. The state House has passed a bill that would lower fitness standards for new cops. A township that was trying to prohibit the display of the “thin blue line American flag” — one associated with the Blue Lives Matter movement — was denied that prohibition. Boston was the location of choice for last weekend's SatanCon 2023, and with a sold-out crowd, the Satanic Temple members were in peak form, complete with the ripping of a Bible and Blue Lives Matter flag and the smashing of a keyboard for some reason. While the members interviewed claim to not worship Satan, they made sure to chant “All hail, Satan.” Going on at the same time was the White House Correspondents' Dinner, during which President Joe Biden gave himself a new title, one that echoes the sentiment of the tenets of those within the Satanic Temple.

What is behind political Left vs Right cultural divide in America? Why do some people become convinced by conspiracies? Why do some march in Black Lives Matter protests while others fly Blue Lives Matter flags in their yards? Are there American cultural values that are at odds with the values of Jesus' “Kingdom of God” culture?  How would we even see that if our culture shapes our perceptions of reality? To attempt to answer these questions, we'll be using the groundbreaking research of the 20th-century Dutch social psychologist Geert Hofstede. Hofstede's initial research into the four dimensions of culture will be an absolutely transformative tool for helping you understand the world, your own upbringing, church community or religious experiences, and the divisive cultural moment we are living in.
