What can we established cybersecurity practitioners ACTUALLY do to help those new in the field besides blathering back and forth about the problem in the echo chamber that is LinkedIn? Drew got the clever idea of inviting three folks who are brand new to the field or barely started on their cyber journey, and, get this: ASKING them what they're experiencing and what they need! Clever, huh? It's an eye-opening show for a CISO. We are join on this week's episode by Amé Venter, May Ferreira, and Bryce Hill, who share their perspectives from their early stages in this field. It's a sobering perspective. To a certain extent, they've all been lied to and led on, and that's all of our faults. Key takeaways: Prodsec/Appsec might get you out of being a cost center in cybersecurity, but no intro programs seem to show folks how to get there. Certs aren't enough. Education is not enough. It is HARD to get started. Internships sound great, but even after you have secured one or two of them, entry-level positions remain elusive. Especially "entry-level" positions that require experience. Innovative programs like the one Bobby Ford is doing over at Hewlett Packard Enterprise are a huge leg up, but such programs are few and far between. There are a lot of folks standing outside the doors to our industry who were told this was the promised land. But there they are, still standing and peering in, waiting for an invitiation. CISOs, please listen to this show. Please re-think your hiring strategies! Y'all be good now!

Similar to Big Foot, he's a tall hairy ape-like man that smells bad who may or may not have red glowing eyes. However, unlike his Pacific Northwestern cousin, he likes to dwell in the bogs and creeks of the Midwest. The Fouke Monster has many nicknames such as the Boggy Creek Monster, Swamp Stalker, Southern Big Foot, or Arkansas Big Foot, believe us… the list goes on. Listen in as we discuss the popular Bobby Ford encounter and much much more. 2022 has not been a straightforward year. A war in Ukraine has seen the world divided and global energy and food supplies disrupted. International tensions between China and Taiwan have reared their heads again. Recession is looming in many parts of the world, and whilst it makes less headlines, Covid is still very much a part of our lives. But organisations exist to solve problems and provide solutions. So, to mark the end of a rollercoaster year, we're pulling together leaders from three organisations to talk about the challenges they've faced this year, and how they are moving forward into 2023.For Hewlett Packard Enterprise Senior Vice President and Global Chief Security Officer Bobby Ford, it's been a year of building bridges. Amid growing security threats from criminal gangs, individual players and even nation states, Bobby has been reaching out across conflict lines to build partnerships and understanding among his industry peers. He's also been on the lookout for the next potential threat - be that online or in the 'real world', from geopolitical instability to forces of nature, he is setting his sights on planning for the unexpected in 2023.Nicole LaPointe Jameson is the CEO of Evil Geniuses, one of the world's premiere eSports teams. Amid a huge growth in the sport around the world, as an international team they've faced challenges in crossing borders and keeping their team safe and united. They've also felt the ongoing effects of hardware shortages which have plagued the tech industry over the last two years: In particular, a shortage of graphics cards and even equipment as basic as computer mice has had a lasting knock-on impact on the team. On the other hand, as a growing sport that's rapidly entering the big leagues financially, 2022 has been a great year for Nicole and eSports at large, and as the value of the sport grows, it's increasing professionalisation - insight driven scouting, training and welfare - becomes more viable and important. For Nicole, 2023 is all about building on that success. And finally, to the other end of the spectrum and a sport where data, detail and design matters more than any other - Formula 1. Christian Horner is the CEO and team principle of Oracle Red Bull Racing, who in 2022 overcame logistical challenges and international tensions to take their first constructors championship since 2013, and driver Max Verstappen's second consecutive drivers championship. For Christian, 2022 has been a year of spinning plates - the team was forced to prioritise winning the 2021 season above developing their 2022 car, and so had some catching up to do early in the season. With major new regulations coming into play for 2023, the team once again has its work cut out to develop a new car and tailor it to the precise needs of the driver and race - as well as bring a team of hundreds along with watch-like precision. This is 2022 Untangled. From Plum Creek With Love: A Little House on the Prairie Podcast
Walnut Grove is about to collide with the real world....when real life historical figures Jesse and Frank James show up in town after a botched bank robbery. Using the excuse of having Swamp Fever, the two men manage to remain hidden in a rental property while hiring Mary as their personal assistant to run errands in town. Meanwhile, Mary is having a challenging time in school when she tries to understand the point of view of the Civil war from the South's Perspective. Which gets a young fellow classmate, Bobby Ford, upset and his father isn't too far behind. In the midst of it all, a group of Bounty Hunters have also arrived in town, with a witness, clamining to know that the James brothers are in town. Not only that, they take over the town to try and flush out the criminals. However, the law abiding men of Walnut Grove are remaining tight lipped about things and refuse to help. And if that wasn't enough, Mary decides to thank Frank James (aka Andy Dobbs) for his input about the Civil War and ends up being taken hostage. Leave it to Charles and Jonathan Garvey to save Mary, free the town, humiliate the bounty hunters and let the bad guys get away. It was 1876 at the end of Season 2 so why is it only September 1876 at the beginning of this episode in Season 4? Why is Laura barely even a supporting cast member in this episode? Which is worse Mountain Fever or Swamp fever?
Moving to a new home can be exciting, but the excitement would quickly die down if you began to hear something prowling around on your porch. Be sure to keep your windows shut, lest clawed arms reach through at night. Hopefully you haven't moved into the territory of a monster. Bobby Ford, Chief Security Officer at HPE, discusses the delicate art of balancing effective cybersecurity while pushing the boundaries of digital innovation. There's no one-size-fits-all approach, but there are do's and don'ts – Bobby breaks it down with host Robert Christiansen.
Bobby Glenn Ford was 28 when he died. He was found deceased in his home on April 13, 2011. An unknown killer had entered Bobby's home on that morning and shot him in the head. When police investigated the homicide, they learned that Bobby was growing marijuana in his home. Based on my conversations with family and friends, the Indianapolis Police department think his death may have been over a drug deal gone bad. However, those close to Bobby don't believe this. They have stated that he was likely murdered by someone close to him for more personal reasons. This case is unusual. There is no information about it anywhere. If you do an online search, it's almost as Bobby Ford never existed. There are no pleas for justice, no local media stories or any local news videos covering the story. For this story I spoke to Bobby's sister April Hudson, Emily Nixon and Mike McBride. Emily and Mike were two of Bobby's closest friends. Both loved him and are angry that his homicide isn't solved. If you know anything, his family is requesting that you call in a tip and help them get justice. Bobby has 3 children that deserve answers. If you would like to know more about Bobby's story, please visit the Justice for Bobby Ford FB page. And if you know anything about this homicide, you can report an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.Please also visit my website for more information about my true crime and paranormal newspaper columns at www.themarcabe.com. Bobby Ford, CSO at Hewlett Packard Enterprise and former CISO at Unilever joins Tessian's CEO this week to share his stories from the world of corporate security, his learnings from his time in the U.S. Army as an Information Security Analyst and his philosophy on cybersecurity today. Security leaders, he says, cannot be the captains of the "no" police if you want to protect employees, and Bobby explains how and why leaders need to equip users with the tools, resources and controls they need to leverage their intelligence. Because, he says, your employees are really smart - they're the sensors in your security ecosystem. This week the Fouke Monster attacks. A small house. Rural Arkansas. Gunmen with terrible aim. A bowel movement gone wrong. You're gonna want to hear this.
Mr. Ford’s first encounter with the creature was a colossal comedy of errors. It is reported that he was doing some yard work around the house when suddenly he was grabbed from behind. He reported that the creature was large. 7-8 feet tall and very, very strong. It was grunting and breathing heavily, had red glowing eyes, and moved very quickly. Ford says that the creature’s chest was enormous and it had dark black hair all over its body. The creature had wrapped Ford up in some type of large, mammal-like hug and was squeezing him tight, too tight! Ford was getting light-headed as his breaths became more and more labored, his lungs unable to function properly due to the constricting force of the creature's embrace. Fearing that he would soon succumb to his waning oxygen intake and pass out, Bobby flailed about wildly. Through sheer determination and will to live, Ford was able to break free from the bear’s… I mean the creature's grasp. He hit the ground hard and ran full-tilt toward the safety of his new home. So harrowed was he, so gripped by fear, though I suppose that’s better than being gripped by a bear… er…. Monster… that he wasn’t even able to open his door! Instead, he burst through, the front door exploding into splinters. Sharps, jagged shards of serrated shrapnel careened through the entryway and through his skin. There, on the welcome mat of his new home, peppered with splinters from his front door, barely breathing, having narrowly escaped the clutches of the now-famous Boggy Creek Monster, Bobby Ford passed out.Bobby Ford woke up the next day at a local hospital where he was being treated for minor scratches and shock. He gave his report of what happened to the Fouke constable, though his initial telling conveniently omitted the busted down door. The story didn’t gain much traction at that point and Bobby was back home and in the loving arms of Elizabeth before supper that evening. But that evening is when things really started to unravel. Bobby’s brother and hunting buddies had come over to wish him well and to give him some much-deserved ribbing over the whole thing, when all of a sudden, one of his friends shouted that he had just seen the monster through a window!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/MicahCampbell)
All links and images for this episode can be found on CISO Series (https://cisoseries.com/defense-in-depth-asset-valuation/) What's the value of your assets? Do you even understand what they are to you or to a criminal looking to steal them? Do those assets become more valuable once you understand the damage they can cause? Check out this post for the basis for our conversation on this week’s episode which features me and Allan Alford. Our guest is Bobby Ford, global CISO, Unilever. Thanks to this week's podcast sponsor, CyberArk. At CyberArk, we believe that sharing insights and guidance across the CISO community will help strengthen security strategies and lead to better-protected organizations. CyberArk is committed to the continued exploration of topics that matter most to CISOs related to improving and integrating privileged access controls. On this episode of Defense in Depth, you’ll learn: Allan revised the well known formula for risk (Risk = Likelihood x Impact) to reflect an asset's importance. So instead, Risk = Threat plus Vulnerability as aimed at an Asset. It's hard to get a stakeholder to tell you the value of their assets. Instead, ask them the reverse. Describe the absolute worst breach scenario. What's the second worse? And then on down until you have an understanding of the hierarchy of the assets. A business impact analysis (BIA) will also help uncover asset valuation. Allan Alford has a BIA calculator on his site. The simple question of "What are you defending?" is one that most business leaders struggle to answer. They need to be able to answer that question often. Once you know what to defend the question is how much to defend and then after that is there anything that doesn't need to be defended. You may actually not be able to start this process if you doing know what your asset inventory is. This should be managed with a discovery tool and multiple iterations of discovery. While you're valuing your own assets, try to make sense of what these assets mean to an attacker. That will help you answer the question of "how much to defend".

This episode was recorded in front of a live audience in Tel Aviv on the eve of the 2020 Cybertech conference. Special thanks to Glilot Capital for hosting this event. This episode is hosted by me, David Spark (@dspark), producer of CISO Series and founder of Spark Media Solutions and my special guest co-host, Bobby Ford, global CISO for Unilever. Our guest is John Meakin, veteran financial CISO, and currently CISO for Equiniti. David Spark, producer, CISO Series, Bobby Ford, CISO, Unilver, and John Meakin, CISO, Equiniti. Thanks to this week's podcast sponsors, Polyrize and Intsights. As newly adopted SaaS and IaaS services add an additional layer of risk for security teams, Polyrize provides a cloud-centric approach to simplifying the task of protecting user identities and their access across the public cloud by right-sizing their privileges and continuously protecting them through a unified authorization model. IntSights is revolutionizing cybersecurity operations with the industry’s only all-in-one external threat protection platform designed to neutralize cyberattacks outside the wire. Our unique cyber reconnaissance capabilities enable continuous monitoring of an enterprise’s external digital profile across the clear, deep, and dark web to identify emerging threats and orchestrate proactive response. To learn more, visit intsights.com. On this week's episode How do you go about discovering new security solutions? In an article on LinkedIn entitled, "Why do CISOs take a vendor meeting?" Dutch Schwartz, of AWS said that they take meetings per a recommendation of their staff, their peers, or they have an explicit problem that they've already researched, or they have known unknowns. Are those the reasons to take a meeting with a security vendor? We discuss what meetings CISOs take, and which ones are the most attractive. It's time for "Ask a CISO" Israel is known for a thriving startup community. But what I always see is cross pollination between Israel and Silicon Valley when it comes to startups. We discuss what Israeli startups can learn from Silicon Valley and vice versa. What's Worse?! We've got two rounds. One agreement and one split vote. It’s time to measure the risk Five years ago I wrote an article for CIO.com about the greatest myths of cloud security, The first myth was the cloud is inherently insecure. And the other 19 are ones I'm still hearing today. My conclusion for the whole article was if you can overcome these myths about cloud security, you can reduce risk. In this segment we dispel cloud security myths and explain how the cloud helps reduce risk possibly in ways many of us are not aware. Close your eyes. Breathe in. It’s time for a little security philosophy. On this podcast we talk a lot about CISOs needing to understand the business. In a thought-provoking post on Peerlyst, Eh-den Biber, a student of information security at Royal Holloway, University of London, noted that the job of cybsecurity is more than that. It's about understanding the flow of business and being present in the individuals' lives and their stories. We discuss the importance of being present in your users' lives. It's time for the audience question speed round The audience has questions and our CISOs have answers. We get through a lot really quickly.

On this episode of Expanded Perspectives we talk with documentary film maker Seth Breedlove about his latest movie "The Boggy Creek Monster". As well as some of his previous movies "The Minerva Monster" and "The Beast of Whitehall". These documentary films are all made by "Small Town Monsters". Small Town Monsters is an independent film series that explores lost and bizarre history around the United States. In addition to film, STM is also merchandise, and other media devoted to this same subject matter. The legend of the Boggy Creek Monster has long captivated the people of Fouke, Arkansas, a little town about 150 miles outside of Little Rock. It is said that Fouke is the first place that this cryptid was spotted. According to legend, the Boggy Creek Monster stands between seven and eight feet tall on two feet and weighs close to 300 pounds. Its chest, legs and arms are covered with thick, long hair. The first reported sightings go all the way back to 1834, when it is said that the large, hairy “wild man” was roaming in Arkansas. In the 1900s, sightings around Fouke became more frequent with residents spotting the monster more than 40 times in 1997 alone. It has been suggested that the animal is nocturnal, but a hunter reported a sighting in broad daylight in the Sulfur River WIldlife Area near Fouke in 2000. The Boggy Creek Monster has been subject of at least four different films, beginning with 1973’s The Legend of Boggy Creek. This movie, centered around Bobby Ford’s supposed encounter with the beast, played in drive-in theaters around the country and introduced millions to the legend that had never heard of this creature before. Mostly shot on location in Fouke, with additional scenes filmed in Texarkana and Shreveport, Louisiana, the film also served as a major economic boost to the region; many cast members were locals or nearby college students. The famous encounter that the film is based on occurred in 1971. Bobby and Elizabeth Ford claimed that the Boggy Creek Monster attacked their home late on the night of May 1. The monster, Elizabeth said, reached through her screen window, but was chased away by Bobby and Dan, his brother, who had just returned from a hunting trip. Unsatisfied, the monster returned shortly after midnight and tossed Bobby to the ground, the Fords say. Bobby was taken to the St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana and treated for large gashes across his back; he was suffering from mild shock when he arrived, according to newspaper reports (there were several papers covering the legend around this time). No traces of blood were found on the Ford’s home, but three-toed footprints were found near the house, scratches found on the porch, and damage sustained to a window and the house’s siding.
