JON LABMAN'S life's work is about helping people overcome trauma, anxiety, self-doubt and low self-esteem, while waking up to their deepest nature as the Absolute, like he did himself..Jon was traumatized at home, bullied at school, and lived in uncomprehending misery for years, including being in and out of extreme religious cults and doing many years of psychotherapy work as a client. He understands how difficult the process of change can be, because Jon lived and still lives it.He also knows how awesome the rewards of moving towards Liberation are. Jon was bound and determined to feel better, and that kept him alive and persisting through numerous ‘false starts. He started working with my first psychologist at the age of 15, but didn't really take to the work until he was nearly 30. Jon started on an active spiritual path at the same time which has taken him into Judaism, evangelical and then new age Christianity, and finally into the mystical awakening traditions of the East (Hinduism, Yoga, Buddhism, etc.) He started my professional journey as an administrative and technical writing professional, but then moved into working with people, first as a Licensed Massage Therapist, where he realized that the most rewarding part of the work was listening to clients' life stories. Jon then returned to school and earned a Master's in Counseling Psychology. Since then, He's been the Director of the Trauma Treatment Program at a large agency, receiving numerous accreditations, written four books, and earned two trauma treatment certifications from the world-famous specialists Dr. Bessel van der Kolk and Dr. Bruce Perry – all while seeing clients full-time. Jon also studied Energy Healing for 3 years, got a 500-hour certification as a Yoga Teacher, and began teaching meditation and spiritual awakening in 2001. For the last 23 years,Jon been helping people move from a tortured existence to a life of peace and contentment, living from the shining center or Core of who they are.    CONTACT JON LABMAN: support@simlyawaken.com

“There are multiple - often overlooked - causes of depression.” - Dr. Achina SteinDepression is more than just a mental health issue. Years of research show that it can be related to your nutrition, chronic infections, environmental toxins, stress, hormones, or problems with cellular metabolism. Many of us in integrative and functional medicine have recognized this multi-factorial issue, and the Healing Depression Project has put together all the elements in a revolutionary way to help clients with treatment-resistant or chronic depression. I think their unique and highly integrative approach to depression and other brain-based mental and physical health challenges could become an ideal model for addressing many complex chronic illnesses.Today, I'm joined by the Healing Depression Project Founder and CEO Silvia Covelli and Clinical Director Dr.Achina Stein. While struggling with depression for over 25 years, Silvia realized that the only thing that helped was to combine several different modalities that created a whole-person approach to treating depression. The Healing Depression Project follows a retreat model where clients come to their center to complete the in-person portion of the program and then transition back into their daily lives with ongoing support for a period afterward. In this conversation, Silvia, Dr. Stein, and I discuss the mission behind the Healing Depression Project, the importance of integrating functional medicine, metabolic psychiatry, and lifestyle changes to address the root causes of depression, Silvia's struggle with depression, the need for comprehensive treatment, why individualized care is crucial, how the Healing Depression Project supports clients, and more.Enjoy the episode, and let's innovate and integrate together!Learn more or watch the video version of this conversation at https://integrativewomenshealthinstitute.com/healing-depression-project-with-silvia-covelli-dr-achina-stein/.Connect with me and access our entire platform at IntegrativeWomensHealthInstitute.com (https://integrativewomenshealthinstitute.com/). Welcome back, dear listeners. In this episode I got to reconnect with a colleague I met in Canada in a program where we shared our stories and our work out loud on stage. Kristi McLeod totally blew me away when she did a demo of her work with an audience member. And I knew that I had to have her on this podcast — partly so that you could learn about the work she does, and selfishly, so that I could be her client for a demo, which you'll hear in this episode.   Kristi is a multidisciplinary healer, mentor, and teacher who is here to help shift the paradigm of how wellness and mental health is viewed. Kristi is on a mission to guide practitioners, entrepreneurs, and organizations to becoming regulated AF so that they can be more at ease, effective and efficient in their business.   With a foundational focus on nervous system regulation, she guides you to a felt sense of safety while teaching you about your nervous systems responses. And to take it a step further, she helps reveal and resolve the root of what is causing dysregulation, which, as we know, is often the underlying root of so many different kinds of symptoms.   In our conversation, Kristi shared about how she came to this work through her own journey of recovery from depression and how she uses the very same processes to work with chronic pain as well.   I felt so safe and supported by Kristi during the demo she did, where I sat in as the client, and there was some raw emotion that came up for me. Just a content warning, the subject matter that I shared about as Kristi's client has to do with a traumatic sexual experience in my teen years. We don't go into much detail about it, we were working mainly with present-time emotion, but if that could be a triggering topic for you, please use your own discernment when choosing to listen. With that said, I so enjoyed recording this episode with Kristi. I think you'll get a ton out of it, as I did, and I am honored to be sharing her work with you!   You can find Kristi at: Website: https://www.somaskyewellness.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/somaskyewellness/   And you can find me at: Instagram: @anna_holtzman Email: anna@annaholtzman.com Website: www.annaholtzman.com --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/from-chronic-pain-to-pass/support

“I see functional medicine as a great opportunity to provide psych rehab,” says Dr. Achina Stein, clinical director of the Healing Depression Project and a board-certified psychiatrist with over 30 years of experience. Dr. Stein, also a best-selling author, shares insights from her book, “What If It's Not Depression? Your Guide to Finding Answers.”   Dr. Stein recounts her journey into functional medicine, initiated by her son's mental health crisis. Conventional medicine failed to help, but she discovered his issues were due to celiac disease and nutritional deficiencies. Addressing these root causes led to his recovery without medication.   The discussion contrasts conventional and functional medicine approaches to depression. Functional medicine looks beyond symptoms to factors like nutrition, gut health, and toxins, emphasizing personalized care and detailed lab testing. Dr. Stein highlights the importance of the autonomic nervous system, vagus nerve training, and mindset work.   This episode offers a fresh perspective on depression treatment, focusing on root causes and personalized, holistic care, providing hope for those seeking lasting solutions. Listeners will also learn about Dr. Stein's four-week intensive program, which combines comprehensive testing, lifestyle changes, and continuous support to foster sustainable healing.   Quotes • “Root causes—I feel like that's a common misconception and something that functional medicine inadvertently advertises that we find the root cause. And it's rarely one root cause. There's usually many.” (07:54 | Dr. Lara Salyer) • “I see functional medicine as a great opportunity to provide psych rehab. If you had a broken leg or were in a car accident, you're going to want to be helicoptered to the closest hospital and have whatever surgery that you need. But no one expects to be discharged with having casts on their body for the rest of their life. But why is it that we do that with patients who are admitted to a psych unit and given medications?” (30:32 | Dr. Achina Stein)  • “To me, they're casts on some level, but it's an opportunity to save that person's life, get them stabilized with medications. But then while they're on medications, why don't we put them into this rehab, figuring out what it was that caused their bodies to go out of balance—body, mind and spirit—to go out of balance and use the crutch of medications to be able to rehab them and figure out what went wrong and then be able to come off of that, just like you would come out of these casts.” (30:59 | Dr. Achina Stein)  • “We want people to believe in themselves to some degree, feeling like there's something going on in their bodies that's beyond just the classic depression, and want to get better. We want them to be at least willing to make changes in their life and feel that they have the ability to do these things and get better.” (34:34 | Dr. Achina Stein)    Links Connect with Achina Stein: Website: https://www.healingdepressionproject.com/ Connect with Lara:  Membership Magic Course: https://rightbrainrescue.com/p/membership-magic-design-your-3-tier-functional-medicine-membership-to-grow-and-scale Use coupon code PODCAST for discount   Website: https://drlarasalyer.com The Catalyst Way: https://drlarasalyer.com/catalyst Instagram: @drlarasalyer Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drlarasalyer Linked-In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drlarasalyer/ YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/c/DrLaraSalyer TikTok: @Creativity.Doctor   Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

What we discuss in this episode: Brooke's medical mystery saga that led her to see 50 doctors in 5 years. At the end of seeking help from modern medicine, she was told to manage her pain.  She rejected that and took her health into her own hands. She shares what practitioners actually helped her, what some of those practitioners specialize in  and how she chose her next step in her healing journey along the way. This led to her co-founding her own company, Gold Ivy Health Co. With her newly regained health, she is now all about adding value to others with the wisdom she has gained about healing and wellness. Looking back, she can see what the root causes of her illness were: mainly stress that had ruined her gut health. Tests showed that she had parasites, an overload of bad bacteria, yeast overgrowth, infections, SIBO and mold toxicity. Other than finding the right practitioners, mindset and a support system were a big part of Brooke's healing journey. Finally, we specifically discuss the connection between mental health and physical health, the mind-body connection. We had the pleasure of meeting HaiYang de Giglio in her new home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on a Friday afternoon just before Labor Day. The weekend ahead promised a lot of unboxing and settling into her new space.HaiYang hails from Detroit, where she grew up with a Korean mother and a black military father. Her multicultural background has given her a unique and rich perspective on life. Later in life, she married a Filipino Italian, adding even more diversity to her personal tapestry. Her high school years were marked by chaos at home, and amidst this turmoil, HaiYang found solace in the form of structure and control in her life. She discovered her place in the world of show choir, where she could define who she was and what role she played. It became her great escape, offering opportunities to compete and shine. However, one form of escapism often leads to another, and she found herself drawn into the party scene, where drugs and alcohol started to take a toll on her life.Yet, HaiYang was determined to regain control. She embarked on a journey of self-improvement, which led her to overcome her struggles with addiction. She got married and began a career as a paralegal, which progressively grew more successful. However, this newfound success brought its own set of challenges, as it exacerbated underlying issues such as depression, ADHD, autism, and CPTSD.Amidst these difficulties, HaiYang and her husband decided to make a fresh start and relocated to Albuquerque from Tampa. The move was meant to offer them a new beginning, but it also brought its own share of challenges, especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. HaiYang acknowledges that she's a different person now and that finding alignment with her husband is an ongoing challenge they are committed to tackling together.Join us as we listen to HaiYang's story, shared through The Jar, and gain insights into her journey of self-discovery, growth, and resilience. For more of The Jar, visit:Website: https://www.thejar.live/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaTqB1dhDvl0Oh505ysdxTgFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/podcast.thejarInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thejar_podcast/Disclaimer: The views stated in this episode are our guest's opinions and do not represent the views, beliefs or opinions of The Jar Podcast. Plunge was born out of optimistic vision during a challenging time. In March 2020, COVID-19 shut down Michael's float spas and with his newly found free time, he looked at the cold plunges on the market and found them shockingly expensive. Enlisting the help of his dad, they were determined to create a more affordable option. After countless iterations and improvements, the Plunge was born. A friendship turned into a powerful partnership when Ryan Duey came on board. Michael and Ryan have a common passion for cold plunging, floating, and building win-win relationships. After building the first 20 Plunges out of Michael's garage, they have since opened a factory in Sacramento and are sending Plunges all over the world!   Listen To Episode 562 As Ryan Duey Uncovers: [1:00] Float Tanks, Plant Medicine & Ice Baths Ryan Duey Get $150 off your Plunge order with the code 'WELLNESSFORCE' Capitol Floats The changes Josh is going through as a new parent and how doing cold plunges have really been helping him. Also, it gives me so much energy, clears my mind, and makes me feel incredible." - Ryan Duey   The Best Workout for the Nervous System "A cold plunge is the best workout for the nervous system. We work out to tear our muscles down and they build back stronger. By getting in the plunge, you're getting outside of your comfort zone, the adrenaline is increasing, and your mind begins to stress but you have the opportunity to completely override and go from a sympathetic state of fight or flight into being in full control of your breath. By doing that cold plunge, you have literally changed your whole body system in 2-3 minutes. Think about what that could mean in everything we do in life; that you are actually in control."  - Ryan Duey   How Cold Plunging Helps Heal Depression "On a time front, cold plunging is such a short commitment and when you're in a very depressed state, big things seem so unfathomable. If you have this in your house or a river right near you or you take a cold shower, there's a moment where spending time in cold water gives you a window to make a positive shift moving forward. Just spend 2 minutes or even take 10 breaths to help you open up out of your depression and start making the actionable steps when you feel stuck." - Ryan Duey   Links From Today's Show  Get $150 off your Plunge order with the code 'WELLNESSFORCE' Capitol Floats Temple of the Way of Light MAPS, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies 210 Brad Burge 410 Mark Divine Wim Hof Dr. Andrew Weil Dr. Rhonda Patrick Dr. Andrew Huberman Dr. Rhonda Patrick on her cold plunge experience Scientific Evidence-Based Effects of Hydrotherapy on Various Systems of the Body The Kaufmann Protocol Vipassana Meditation – A Spartan Race For The Mind John C. He attended Cal Poly University where he spent a semester abroad in Barcelona. The experience was so impactful that after graduation, Ryan returned to Spain and spent the next two years living and working in Madrid. After Madrid, Ryan returned to the states and began working in the front office of the San Jose Earthquakes. Soon after, Ryan had what he calls his “greatest gift”: a head-on motorcycle accident in Thailand. This near death experience catapulted Ryan into a journey of self-inquiry, leading him to the jungles of the Amazon, the inside of a float tank, and a commitment to entrepreneurship in the Health and Wellness industry. While building Capitol Floats, Sacramento's Premier Float Center, Ryan traveled to Reboot Float Spa in the Bay Area with the hopes of meeting the owner, Mike Garrett. The two quickly became friends and business confidants. Now, six years later, Ryan and Mike are taking the next step together and have joined forces to create Plunge. Their mission is to make cold plunging as common as coffee. Ryan couldn't be more grateful and excited to be working alongside such an impressive human and building the team at Plunge.
