Whether it's the Syrian refugee crisis, the war in Gaza, or the closure of the strait of Hormuz, Türkiye has had to consistently re-balance and re-negotiate its partnerships. Turkish Ambassador H.E. Fatma Ceren Yazgan will join us to talk about how Türkiye does this in practice. With a long career as a high ranking diplomat and civil servant, she offers firsthand experience into the complexities of Turkish politics.

We keep hearing that fly fishing is good for your mental health. It gets you out in the natural world, involves problem solving, and keeps you active and moving throughout the day (unless you sit in a drift boat watching a bobber). But is it always good for your mind? Are there times when fly fishing can make your mood worse, and are there things you can do to make sure a day on the water is good for you?  I discuss this, and play devil's advocate a bit, with Melissa Ceren [35:20], who is both a fly-fishing guide and a licensed therapist. We had a fun conversation and I hope you enjoy it.   In the Fly Box this week, we have some great questions from listeners, including: If I break a section of a rod, why won't a section from a different rod fit it?  Are the diameters different in different types of rods? Are there benefits to fishing nymphs without an indicator? When fishing, are you more likely to change the fly size up or down if the one you're using is not working? Am I missing some flexibility by not carrying two rods when wade fishing? What is the best way to fish for a trout that lives under a bridge? When I get a tangled mess I usually cut everything off and re-tie.  Should I be carrying a safety pin to untangle my leader? I am having problems with drag when fishing straight upstream.  Do you have any tips to help this? I keep foul-hooking small brook trout when using a dry dropper.  Why does this happen and what can I do to avoid it? I accidentally dropped my fly box in the river.  I don't see any rust on them, but should I throw all of them out? What is "attitude" when discussing the choice of dry flies? What is your current recommendation on the noise created by studded boots or metal wading staffs? I have gone on 8 saltwater fly-fishing trips and have been skunked on 6 of them.  It's a combination of bad guides and bad weather.  What can I do to avoid this? What is the best way of getting my fly off a branch if I don't want to wade in and spook the pool?

Challenging negative thoughts can positively influence emotions and behaviors. Finding a Therapist 25:47 - Melissa recommends Psychology Today's website for finding therapists by location, insurance type, and specialty. Here are some of her tips: Call multiple therapists to assess their suitability. It is important to feel comfortable and supported during initial conversations. Don't be discouraged if you don't find the right therapist on your first try. Not every initial match may feel perfect. Melissa also mentions crisis lines like the national suicide line and NAMI. Fishing Tips from the Fly Fishing Therapist  36:54 - Hire a guide if you can afford it. Guides know the best spots. They have the right gear for rent. Watch online videos to improve casting techniques. Spend a lot of time on the water to learn from experience. Adjust depth to increase your chances of catching fish. Learn from mistakes, like losing a fish, and ask for advice on how to improve. Today we're talking with Ceren Yarar-Fisher, PhD, PT. Dr. Yarar-Fisher is Vice Chair of Research of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Dept. of Neuroscience at The Ohio State University. She's also the director of clinical research at the Belford Center for Spinal Cord Injury. In this episode, we start off exploring the unique origins of Ceren's interest in science and later spinal cord injury. We also talk about her research interest in SCI functional recovery through rehabilitation and nutrition, her role at the multi-disciplinary Belford Center and this year's inaugural SCI Days at OSU. Anadolu'nun Şifacı Kadınları'nı konuk ettiğim programın bu haftaki konuğu Ceren Yeşilbaş. 1980 yılında Ankara'nda doğan Ceren, küçük yaşlardan itibaren müziğe duyduğu ilgiyle Bilkent Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi'nde İletişim Tasarımı Bölümün'de okudu. Uyanmak ve Aydınlanmak üzerine ilk kısa filmini çekti. 10 yıl kadar yardımcı yönetmen olarak çalışan Ceren, kalbinin çağrısıyla Kelebekler Vadisi'ne gitti ve yeniden doğuşunu yaşadı. Ardından yoga ile tanıştı ve yoga eğitmenlik eğitimi aldı. Daha sonra kanser teşhisi kondu. Jose Ayumpun, Chonon Hisbe ve Ayşe Nilgün Arıt gibi şamanlarla çalıştı. Ardından Kefas Berlin ile sesiyle tanışan Ceren, İspanya'da Harmonic Sounds'da ses şifası eğitimi aldı.
