Amy Park and Mark Hoffman welcome Dr. Angela Chaudhari, Chief of Gynecology and Gynecologic Surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, to share her experience promoting a culture of physician wellness as the Director of the P2P Network for Physician Peer Support. --- SHOW NOTES Dr. Chaudhari discusses how her inspiration to advocate for physician wellness began when she herself was experiencing feelings of burnout. Initially an open ear for colleagues on an individual level, Dr. Chaudhari was later trained on the topic of wellness through the Scholars of Wellness Program and received her Organization Leadership and Coaching Certificate at Northwestern University. Dr. Chaudhari then explains that, through the program, volunteers from both medical and non-medical backgrounds are trained to provide support for those experiencing adverse events, “compassion fatigue,” and discriminatory patient experiences. In addition, peers are also available to provide feedback or education. Specific metrics for the program include retention, wellbeing scores, and culture surveys to identify “pain points'' within the Institution. Next, the doctors discuss the topic of “work-life integration,” rather than work-life balance, and how to promote this in your own practice. While acknowledging that it may be difficult to advocate for yourself and set boundaries early on in your career, the group emphasizes the role of mentorship and how this can empower trainees/learners to take action sooner rather than later. The episode ends with a discussion on creating culture in your workplace. The doctors express sentiments that maintaining an intentional, positive outlook and treating all colleagues with respect is a key aspect in promoting wellness. Fast and unplanned growth of Kathmandu valley has put a great deal of pressure on the flow of traffic in the valley. Abstract: Occams razor is the principle that, all else being equal, simpler explanations should be preferred over more complex ones1. This principle is thought to play a role in human perception and decision-making2, but the nature of our presumed preference for simplicity is not understood. Here we use preregistered behavioral experiments informed by formal theories of statistical model selection3 to show that, when faced with uncertain evidence, human subjects exhibit preferences for particular, theoretically grounded forms of simplicity of the alternative explanations. These forms of simplicity can be understood in terms of geometrical features of statistical models treated as manifolds in the space of the probability distributions, in particular their dimensionality, boundaries, volume, and curvature. The simplicity preferences driven by these features, which are also exhibited by artificial neural networks trained to optimize performance on comparable tasks, generally improve decision accuracy, because they minimize over-sensitivity to noisy observations (i.e., overfitting). However, unlike for artificial networks, for human subjects these preferences persist even when they are maladaptive with respect to the task training and instructions. Thus, these preferences are not simply transient optimizations for particular task conditions but rather a more general feature of human decision-making. Taken together, our results imply that principled notions of statistical model complexity have direct, quantitative relevance to human and machine decision-making and establish a new understanding of the computational foundations, and behavioral benefits, of our predilection for inferring simplicity in the latent properties of our complex world. Abstract: Attention deficit is one of the most prominent and disabling symptoms in Fragile X Syndrome (FXS). Hypersensitivity to sensory stimuli contributes to attention difficulties by overwhelming and/or distracting affected individuals, which disrupts activities of daily living at home and learning at school. We find that auditory or visual distractors selectively impair visual discrimination performance in both humans and mice with FXS, but not their typically developing controls. Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) neurons were significantly modulated by incorrect responses in the post-stimulus period during early distractor trials in WT mice, consistent with their known role as error signals. Strikingly, however, VIP cells from Fmr1-/- mice showed little modulation in error trials, and this correlated with their poor performance on the distractor task. Thus, VIP interneurons and their reduced modulatory influence on pyramidal cells, could be a potential therapeutic target for attentional difficulties in FXS. Copy rights belong to original authors. Abstract: Sensory systems appear to learn to transform incoming sensory information into perceptual representations that can inform and guide behavior, or objects, with minimal explicit supervision. Here, we propose that the auditory system can achieve this goal by using time as a supervisor, i.e., by learning features of a stimulus that are temporally regular. We will show that this procedure generates a feature space sufficient to support fundamental computations of auditory perception. In detail, we consider the problem of discriminating between instances of a prototypical class of natural auditory objects, i.e., rhesus macaque vocalizations. We test discrimination in two ethologically relevant tasks: discrimination in a cluttered acoustic background, and generalization to discriminate between novel exemplars. We show that an algorithm that learns these temporally regular features affords better or equivalent discrimination and generalization than a conventional feature-selection algorithm, i.e., principal component analysis. Our findings suggest that the slow temporal features of auditory stimuli may be sufficient for parsing auditory scenes, and that the auditory brain should utilize these slowly changing temporal features. There are so many causes that can lead to this feeling of emotional exhaustion, compassion, fatigue, decreased job satisfaction, or even depression. I think it's important that we talk about this openly. Have a game plan for how you will be taking care of your new babies once they arrive! Make sure you have help lined up (family, night nurse, au pair, etc.) and talk it over with your spouse so that you are both on the same page. 2. Get out and do things with your twins and don't let the fear stop you from living life! Having twins is harder than having a singleton but don't let that stop you from getting out and about with your twins. If one cries, then you attend to that one and both are crying, that's OK too. You can handle it! 3. Stick to a routine/schedule and write everything down! We had a notebook where we logged every feed, every diaper change, and their naps and it was super helpful!3 Things She Wishes She Had Done Differently:1. I would have limited the visitors at the hospital. We were there for seven days and it felt like someone was always there (with the best intentions) but that made attempting to breastfeed very difficult and awkward at times. 2. I wish we would have had a night nurse lined up to help at least a couple of nights a week as our babies did not sleep well and we were absolutely sleep deprived in those first five months (before we sleep trained). 3. I wish we had connected with other twin parents by joining twin groups or organizations such as Twiniversity. On Episode 13 I sit down with Raj Chaudhari the creator of the Synapse CCR, a custom calibrated pulley system that allows for individuals to perform eccentric overloads in positions and in methods that would have been previously impossible or dangerous. He spent many years involved with the tennis community, so naturally we do cover some considerations when preparing tennis and overhead athletes. We discuss the needs of the sport, lateral movement, rotational abilities, Running and weight training for the sport. We cover the benefits of eccentric training and also talk about some of the areas that have given individuals pause in implementing it in training. We discuss the neural, physiological, and hormonal benefits of eccentrics as well as their ability to be build resilient structures. We shift our focus to talk about the synapse CCR and how it allows for Safe eccentric overloads in extremely specific joint angles. We discuss how it can be implemented in a rehab setting and I really like the idea of being able to lessen and self adjust tension as needed to facilitate work in compromised areas. We discuss the differing methods that it can be employed, for instance with overcoming isometrics and how you could utilize that to potentiate other desired movements. I was really interested when I first discovered the synapse and after hearing all of its possible benefits I am even more interested. This is a really inventive, safe, and time efficient way to provide substantial overload in just about any joint alignment you desire. This information would be very useful when investigating freight claims, preventing theft, and ensuring the doors are closed on temperature-controlled shipments. Sensors that can capture the approximate capacity used inside the trailer. This technology helps shippers and carriers measure trailer utilization. The integrated nature of the internet of trucking (IoT) products enables shippers and carriers to become more efficient and transparent. Drones are revolutionizing surveying, enabling faster, less costly topographic data than ever before. Diving into this topic on the show, host Shaun MacIntosh welcomed Akash Chaudhari, project manager for Bradley Construction. Also joining the conversation was co-host Matt Gendron of Propeller Aero.MacIntosh and Gendron first met Chaudhari when he was a project manager for Strata Solar, a provider of turnkey solutions for solar projects. The company was already using drones for infrared scanning but soon found they had more applicable solutions for solar surveying. The relationship between Propeller and Strata took off from there. “These are massive projects, and you're balancing safety, quality, budget, and schedule. Technology like drones can help with this,” Chaudhari said.Before drone usage, equipment and people were necessary, which was time-intensive and costly. The company began to adopt the use of drones beyond just thermal imagery. “We started to understand the capabilities of Propeller and what was possible. We could take the data from drones and overlay it with CAD files to understand progress and speak in specifics to what problems were and start solving them," he noted.The drones helped them make adjustments in real-time by collecting more data. Some of those contain millions of points of data, something not feasible with traditional methods. “People doing the surveying could hit maybe 1,000 points of data a day. How long would it take them to hit millions?” Chaudhari added.The most critical aspect that drones brought to the projects was the quality control factor. “We could check current contours and adjust in the moment before it was too late,” Chaudhari said. The benefits of systems talking to each other made all the difference as well, aggregating CAD files, drone data, and site data for a holistic view. Drones certainly offer significant advantages in surveying and certainly far exceed the label of “toy.”

Abstract: There are currently 85,000 chemicals registered with the EPA under the Toxic Substances Control Act, but only a small fraction (~5%) have any measured toxicological data. To address this data gap, high-throughput screening (HTS) methods are vital. As part of one such HTS effort, embryonic zebrafish were used to examine a suite of morphological and mortality endpoints at six concentrations from over 1,000 unique chemicals found in the ToxCast library (phase 1 and 2). We hypothesized that by using a conditional Generative Adversarial Network (cGAN) and leveraging this large set of toxicity data, plus chemical structure information, we could efficiently predict toxic outcomes of untested chemicals. CAS numbers for each chemical were used to generate textual files containing three-dimensional structural information for each chemical in the Protein Data Bank (PDB) file format. Utilizing a novel method in this space, we converted the 3D structural information into a weighted set of points while retaining all information about the structure. The in vivo toxicity and chemical data were used to train two neural network generators. The first used regression to train a generator (Go-ZT) to produce toxicity data while the second utilized cGAN architecture to train a generator (GAN-ZT). Our results showed that both Go-ZT and GAN-ZT models produce similar results, but the cGAN achieved higher sensitivity (SE) value of 85.7% vs 71.4%. Conversely, Go-ZT attained a higher specificity (SP), positive predictive value (PPV), and Kappa results of 67.3%, 23.4%, and 0.21 compared to 24.5%, 14.0%, and 0.03 for the cGAN, respectively. By combining both Go-ZT and GAN-ZT, our consensus model improved the SP, PPV, and Kappa, to 75.5%, 25.0%, and 0.211, respectively, resulting in an area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) of 0.663. Considering their potential use as efficient prescreening tools, these new models can provide in vivo toxicity predictions and insight into as-yet untested areas of chemical space to prioritize compounds for HT testing. At the end of the experience, the women are given 2 to 4 recommendations.The women are also concierged to 3 or 4 relevant products and services to implement their decision.AdirA never plugs any sponsor ads or sponsor connects into the concierging. They have a sponsor corner on the website where women can choose to interact with the sponsors on their own volition.They currently have a contraception decision tree. When a woman uses the tree, they know exactly which medical professional built the tree.She also gets to ask her medical question related to contraception and she gets a recommendation on where to get information on that. Want live TV over the internet? Today you have several options, including Hulu, YouTube TV, PlayStation Vue, and more. It’s hard to remember, though, but there was a time when there were virtually no options for consumers who wanted to cut the cord. Sure, services like Netflix and Vudu provided plenty of titles via on demand, but current content was scattered across myriad websites and services, and it didn’t do a good job of replicating the TV experience.   Then Sling TV came along. Launched by satellite powerhouse Dish Network in January 2015, Sling TV wasn’t the first over-the-top (OTT) video service, but it was the first to get it right, both in terms of user experience and offerings. It made deals to package several popular TV channels live over the internet, including — crucially — ESPN. Since then it’s expanded in terms of both content and features, now offering dozens of channels, a cloud DVR, and even its own streaming box, the AirTV Player.   One of the key people behind the service is Jimshade Chaudhari, Sling TV’s vice president of product marketing and management.   Leon Chaudhari ist ein erfolgreicher 19-jähriger Unternehmer aus Berlin. Bekannt ist er als Gründer und Geschäftsführer des Unternehmens Teaching Hero, das Online Bildungsmaterialien in bereits 120 Ländern an knapp 7000 Schüler verkauft. In den letzten Jahren umreiste er die Welt, lebte in China und den USA und konnte in dieser Zeit viel über die Startup Szene lernen. Bevor er in China lebte, glaubte er, Geld sei nicht wichtig. Heute denkt er anders. Seine Reisen durch die Welt haben ihm gezeigt wie gut wir es hier in Deutschland eigentlich haben. Seitdem er aus China zurück nach Deutschland gezogen ist, weiß er ganz genau was er im Leben machen möchte: Unternehmer werden. Eine klare Linie zu finden, und dieser zu folgen, ist für die meisten Menschen nicht möglich, so Chaudhari. Mit seiner Arbeit und auch in diesem Podcast Interview möchte er den Leuten, die keine klar definierten Träume haben und möglicher Weise nicht wissen, was sie im Leben erreichen möchten, helfen. Ihm ging es nämlich genau so. Im Alter von 14 Jahren fing er an der Freien Universität Berlin im Fachbereich Physik mit Elektronen Spin Resonanz Spektroskopie (ESR) zu arbeiten, gewann den Wettbewerb Jugend Forscht zwei Mal und erhielt den Bundesumweltpreis, sowie Preise von der Max-Planck Stiftung, Helmholtz Gemeinschaft und Internationalen Martin Luther Stiftung für seine Forschungen an Hautkrebs und menschlichen Haaren. Bis er 16 Jahre alt war, arbeitete er nur im Labor. Bald musste er jedoch feststellen, dass Wissenschaft alleine, besonders das Arbeiten in einem Labor an einer Universität, ihn nicht glücklich machen würde. Zu eintönig, zu starr, ja gar zu einfach fand er die Arbeit. Er musste raus und begann die Welt zu bereisen... Seine Freude kennen ihn als workaholic. Und, das sei auch gut so! Seines Erachtens sollte jeder Mensch darauf aussein, eine bessere Umgebung für sich, seine Freunde oder die Familie zu schaffen, besonders im finanziellen Sinne. Dein Pitch:  Ich bin Gründer und Geschäftsführer des Unternehmens Teaching Hero, das Online Bildung verkauft. Bekannt wurde ich erst wirklich durch meine Entdeckungen im Bereich der Elektronenspinresonanzspektroskopie und die nationalen und international Preise die ich dafür erhielt. Ich lebte in China und den USA und bin nun dabei Unternehmen zu gründen und erfolgreich zu machen. Dein schlimmster Moment als Unternehmer?  Der schlimmste Moment war für mich, als ich feststellen musste, dass ich zu viel verdiene und mich strafbar machen könnte. Bevor ich mein Unternehmen gründete, verkaufte ich bereits Bildungsprodukte online und verdiente so viel, dass ich eigentlich hätte als Unternehmen operieren müssen. Ich kannte damals den Höchstsatz noch nicht, und unterbot diesen bei der eiligen Unternehmensgründung gerade mal um 4 Euro. Daraus habe ich gelernt, dass es immer wichtig ist ALLE Fakten zu kennen. Wie hast Du es geschafft, Deine Leidenschaft zu finden?  Ich bin viel gereist in den letzten Jahren, genau aus dem Grund weil ich wusste, dass ich noch nicht meine Leidenschaft gefunden hatte. Als ich in China lebte, hatte ich 10 Monate lang Zeit alles zu überdenken und tat dies auch. Als ich dann eines Tages in einem Zug von Peking nach Shanghai saß, wurde mir alles auf einmal ganz klar. Genau in diesem Moment begriff ich was ich wollte. Noch am selben Tag startete ich meine Bemühungen und sollte schon bald ein erfolgreiches Unternehmen haben. Was war der wichtigste Schritt, der Dich zum großen Erfolg gebracht hat?  Arbeit. Der einzige wirklich wichtige Schritt am Anfang ist es zu verstehen, dass viel Arbeit und auch viel bringt. Wenn man wie ich, nicht aus einem reichen Haushalt kommt und auch nicht von seinen Eltern finanziell unterstützt wird, muss man lernen zu kämpfen und anderen durch seine Arbeit den Rang abzulaufen. Genau das tat ich und werde es für immer tun. Je mehr und sinnvoller du arbeitest, desto höher die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass du es eines Tages zu finanziellem Erfolg bringen wirst. Leon Chaudhari ist wohl das, was man als Ausnahmetalent bezeichnen könnte.
