Austin Knight thought he had life by the horns, until he was fired, and dumped by his girlfriend, on the same day. Facing the task of starting over, he had two routes to choose from—the ease and stability of a corporate job, or joining the U.S. military as a paratrooper. He chose the harder route, and wouldn't change it for the world. A part of the Arctic Angels, the United States' only Arctic Paratrooper unit, Austin shares his aggressive story from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.  Watch the full podcast on YouTube here.

Send us a textThe official real Episode 20 had to be a little more legit than our bonus episode so we brought in a literal heavy hitter. This Ep we're joined by our newest addition to the training team, Kevin "Baguba" Hein. Kevin is an army veteran, serving most of his active duty time as an airborne infantryman attached to the 3-509 airborne unit of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage Alaska. He also happens to be very good at punching people in the face and/or choking them during MMA fights. In more recents developments, he is already making a name for himself as an up and comer on one of the best training teams in the country. We had the pleasure of talking to Kevin about his service, his training, and his outlook on the future as a personal trainer. As usual, we had a good time doing it too. If you liked the episode or not, drop us some fan mail and let us let us know what you think.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: On Sunday, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin announced he would be pardoning Scott Smith—the Loudon County father who was unjustly arrested and charged with disorderly conduct while speaking-out against the sexual assault of his daughter during a local school board meeting. The Wall Street Journal Editorial Bord writes: “The press treated Mr. Smith's verbal protest as part of some larger right-wing campaign of violence. The National School Boards Association cited the episode as an example of potential domestic terrorism in a letter to President Biden. Attorney General Merrick Garland followed with a letter asking the FBI and U.S. Attorneys to investigate threats against local school boards that haven't materialized. These actions appear to have been an attempt to fit Mr. Smith into the Democratic Party's portrayal of conservative critics of government as motivated by hatred. Sean Davis of The Federalist writes of the attacks: “It spawned the worst and most destructive foreign policy in the country's history. Will Governor Phil Murphy be held accountable for the state's mismanagement? 3:55pm- While in Vietnam, President Joe Biden told reporters that he would not be in New York City, Washington D.C., or Shanksville to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001. It's a beautiful place and is somewhere most spouses don't want to leave once they've arrived there.  Key takeaways from this episode include:  Some topics at this location were the Hiring Act, Mike Garcia's Military Spouse Licensing Relief Act, having a military liaison, and artificial intelligence.  Meta is a community-driven platform interested in learning about military spouse issues. The spouses in attendance felt they could share their hearts and struggles as military spouse entrepreneurs with the Meta and The Center for Entrepreneurship.  This two - three-hour roundtable discussion served lunch and refreshments with a discussion of essential topics for military spouses.  We had ten spouses in attendance from all sorts of backgrounds.  In attendance were also two senate representatives: Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski.  If you're in the area, you can go to the space that hosted us called: The Boardroom. They are offering free membership for AMSE members.  Moose's Tooth donated food. AMSE is grateful for those who attended - including Meta. And shoot out to our AMSE Chapter Leader - Amy Slinker.  We are grateful for our sponsors and partners - Meta and The Center for Entrepreneurship. The Center for Entrepreneurship is working alongside AMSE to help legislate for military spouse entrepreneurs. Military spouses should be able to streamline the process of starting a business and pcs from state to state, country to country, without having to constantly jump hurdles or put their business on hold because of red tape.  Join us next week for round two of the Meta Milspouse Roundtable Tour with CEO and Host Moni Jefferson.  If you're new to Owning Up, subscribe to know when a new episode drops. What about really sick kids? Since we are in the age of the COVID we need to understand that children can have some very serious , albeit thankfully very rare, complications with a SARS CoV2 infection. So here he is, after years of trying to find a pediatrician to opine about the specialty, Neil Copeland, MD; pediatrician. Neil is the first purposeful pediatrician on Rotations. If I sound gleeful it’s because I am. Pediatricians are notoriously hard to get to commit to interviews… John does a really good job of sorting out the process of getting through a pediatric residency but his comments are germane to any medical specialty. He also gives a great intro to the things that pediatricians do and the things that all good physicians should be doing prior to referring to a pediatrician. That makes this interview highly relevant to Family Physicians as well. Also, I hope you understand that the term “veterinary medicine” is an inside joke among physicians. It has nothing to do with our general love for managing children as patients. Babies can’t talk and so… …sometimes I find myself wondering why I have to explain this but we live in a hypersensitive time so there is the disclaimer. I also imagine that I will ruffle feathers with my initial comments about disaster management but I will ask that you indulge me. A lot of "expert" opinions get shot out into social media and misinform people who look at physicians as “experts” in things. That creates chaos and is not aligned with the calling of academics. I hope that a lot of young physicians consider going into administrative medicine after they get a decade or so of experience in actual clinical practice. You have to understand tactics and operations to become an effective strategic leader. The only practical way to gain that understanding is to spend a long-time practicing medicine. I would encourage you to register and take courses with FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute. It will address some of the concerns that I mentioned in the beginning of this episode. https://training.fema.gov/ FEMA https://www.fema.gov/ For those of you willing to wear another type of uniform and leave medical school without debt, Neil discussed the HPSP program, his time at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson and how we both like working with mid-levels. The unidentified flying object (UFO) was photographed over Palm Springs, California, prompting claims of an alien craft in the skies. According to self-described UFO expert Scott C Waring, the UFO may have come from the highly classified US Air Force base known as Area 51. Area 51 has been at the heart of many UFO stories and alien conspiracy theories, including the 1947 Roswell incident. Mr Waring said on his blog ET Data Base: "This UFO was seen over Palm Springs, California this week. "The object was only seen for a few seconds. "It's located on far southern California so it's mostly rocky desert. "This is one of the prime areas that UFOs will be seen from Area S4, which is inside Area 51." The UFO photo was originally shared to MUFON or the Mutual UFO Network by an eyewitness on May 24. The photo appears to show a blurry, grey object flying far behind a power transformer seen in the foreground. According to the original eyewitness statement, the UFO appeared and disappeared "in a blink of the eye". The eyewitness said the object was tic tac-shaped with appendages. The UFO also disappeared as soon as its photo was taken. California is home to more military installations than any other state, with a total of 32. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and National Guard/Reserve bases are located across California. The Army and the Air Force make up more than 75 percent of the manpower in Alaska at the Fort Wainwright, Fort Greely, and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Most of the training operations prepare service members for operating in inhospitable winter climates whether on the ground or in the air. Ohio's Wright Patterson Air Force Base is one of the Air Force's largest and most important installations. It is home to the world's first operational airfield. UFO sighting: Alien spaceship spotted in NASA Apollo 9 mission – claim Link: https://www.express.co.uk/news/weird/1286594/ufo-sighting-alien-spaceship-nasa-apollo-9-ufos-aliens-news ALIEN enthusiasts believe they have spotted a UFO in the clouds in images from NASA's historic Apollo 9 mission. Apollo 9 saw three NASA astronauts blasted into the Earth's orbit for 10 days as a test flight before the Apollo 11 mission, which saw the first people land on the Moon. Commander James McDivitt, Command Module Pilot David Scott, and Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart lifted off from Earth on March 3, 1969, before spending 10 days in orbit, completing 151 trips around Earth. The three men landed back on Earth on March 13, just four months before the Apollo 11 mission set off for the Moon. Prominent conspiracy theorist Scott C Waring has been analysing the images from the NASA astronauts and believes he has found a UFO which is "100 percent" proof of aliens. Mr Waring wrote on his blog ET Database: "I found a triangle UFO in an old Apollo 9 mission photo. The module was flying directly over Arizona at the time and this triangle UFO was seen in the clouds below. "The triangle looks dark brown. The object is blurry at an equal pace as that of the clouds and other objects [sic ]in the picture. "Had this been 100 percent focused and the clouds blurry, then we would know its not real, but thats not how it is here. "The UFO and the other things in the photo have the same focus which tells us its 100 percent real." This Math Formula Has Determined the Odds of Aliens Existing Link: https://www.popularmechanics.com/science/a32603529/math-formula-aliens-exist/ David Kipping leads, yes, the Cool Worlds Laboratory at Columbia University. In an explainer video (below), he describes some background for the question of intelligent life in the universe and concludes, “I've never been much for faith—I want an answer.” Kipping mentions the changing trends over centuries of human imagination: Basically, as soon as people realized what they saw in the sky included other planets, they began to wonder if other planets had intelligent life. An underdeveloped instrument caused astronomers to see “manmade” canals on the surface of Mars during the 1800s. Turn to Bayesian (bei·Zhn) analysis, a way of using what we do know to extrapolate what we don't. And to do that, Kipping put Earth's long history on a replay loop. The squeeze here is whether or not that life would eventually evolve intelligence. Instead of 3:1, the odds are just 3:2, meaning three of every five reruns with life would become intelligent life. So overall, that means a 75 percent probability of life and 60 percent likelihood of intelligence, for an overall probability of 45 percent. If the Bayesian analysis is right, that means even for Earth to be itself was the probabilistic minority. But it's still a more concrete argument for the existence of life on Earthlike planets around the universe. “Overall, our work supports an optimistic outlook for future searches for biosignatures,” the paper explains. Isaiah Stewart came to Washington to help the Huskies win national championships, and he should know. He's already played in one. The 6-foot-9 freshman forward, winner of the 2019 Naismith High School National Player of the Year award, helped lead his La Lumiere squad to the Geico National Championship game last April, eventually losing to IMG Academy 66-55. He's played for his country, helping the USA U17 team win gold at the 2018 U-17 FIBA World Cup in Argentina. He averaged 11 points and led the team in rebounds per game (8.4). He led the team in scoring against France in the game that clinched the gold. And in arguably the top AAU tournament in the country, Peach Jam, Stewart helped Albany City Rocks to a quarterfinal finish, losing to eventual champions Team Takeover (Washington, D.C.) 65-57. So playing against No. 16 Baylor in Alaska wasn't going to faze him all that much. And when he found himself next to the basket with the game tied at 64 and just over 30 seconds to play, Stewart didn't hesitate. The Bears were in a switching man defense at the top of the key, and a screen with UW's Quade Green found Stewart matched up with 6-foot-5 Mark Vital, one of the best rebounders for Baylor. No problem for Stewart. He just backed Vital up to the cylinder, caught a feed from Hameir Wright, quickly turned without putting the ball on the floor and floated up a shot that hit the left rim, then the backboard, and then through the net. All in a day's work for the former McDonald's and Jordan Brand All-American. Stewart talked to the Seattle media Monday about his experience in Anchorage at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson as part of the Armed Forces Classic, playing in his first game for Washington, and more. Heath Trepanier- Resilience is making mistakes and coming back from them In January of 2017, US Air Force Technical Sergeant Heath Trepanier (“Trep”) was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer when a cantaloupe-sized tumor was found in his abdomen. He continues to exceed the doctors’ expectations and was recently able to travel to Hawaii for an Air Force Wounded Warrior event. Trep has a very realistic, but optimistic outlook on his life.  His illness has provided him with a new perspective of life and taught him to be resilient. Rather than taking things for granted, he is now more intentional about leaning into his family, friends, and faith for the support he needs as he approaches each new challenge with the intention to learn from it and make the best of what is presented to him. Recognizing that everyone has their own struggles, he encourages everyone listening to be the best they can be, lead by example, and follow through on the goals they set. Trep emphasizes the importance of being involved in a community and having friends to hold you accountable and encourage you to carry on.
