All eyes on China: It is impossible to talk about solar energy without talking about developments in what is by far the world's leading solar market. As of April, China's cumulative installed capacity was 380 GW, and the country is on track for 177% growth by 2023. A huge increase in PV production is also expected over the next two years. When it comes to associating China with Europe, memories of the past mix with prospects for the future: is the country a fierce competitor for European industry, or have China and Europe driven the success that PV is experiencing globally today, promising a bright solar future for both markets? In the latest episode we have a talk with Frank Haugwitz, Senior Advisor at Apricum The - Cleantech Advisory. Timeline: 03:10 What developments can be observed in China to enable the current strong growth? 09:09 According to IEA, the global manufacturing capacity will double in 2023 and again in 2024, with China accounting for more than 90% of this increase. Is oversupply a realistic scenario regarding this growth? 12:02 How are the market opportunities for big Chinese solar PV players in the European and US manufacturing landscape? 16:08 Floating PV and Agriculture PV: What role do they play on the domestic market and what are the biggest differences to Europe? “I think that's what America needs, more opium conventions” - The Dimes kick the show off with a little lesson about the origins of international drug laws - Sammy breaks down a timeline he found within a 100 page document called “One Hundred Years of Drug Control,” written by The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime - Most of the timeline can be pointed towards western nations interests and history with drugs - The United Nations wrote this study to see how effective international drug control has been over the last 100 years and it ends up being a reminder that most things that start with wholesome ideas are usually crushed “You don't wanna be the boat buddy, you don't wanna be the plane buddy, you just wanna be the guy who can drive it from time to time” - The Dimes quickly discuss some life updates - Daryl shares the experience of his first flying lesson and comes to the conclusion that he wants to become a pilot - Sammy is still cleaning up from Electric Forest and shares a pro tip for washing your gear, as well as some updates on his current mental state post Zoloft “That's how easy it is to f*ck with our government” - The Dimes react to The Supreme Court ruling against Affirmative Action - Daryl has some strong opinions about Justice Clarence Thomas and his role in this decision made by the court - “I can guarantee, that a Supreme Court justice is not ‘so f*cking cool', that people are just giving him Super Bowl rings” - This leads the boys into a conversation about how Justice Thomas benefited from Affirmative Action personally but is now helping to dismantle it - Between The Supreme Court ruling against Affirmative Action and President Biden's student debt relief bill, it feels like black women will get hit the hardest by all of this - Daryl shares his opinion on the “color blind” system for college admissions and how Justice Thomas might have been led to make his decision - “What's the mechanism to remove a Supreme Court Justice?” “I want some oil barrels, for free… and give me a Dr. Pepper” - The Dimes discuss the developing arms race in The Pacific between The U.S. and China - It seems that the U.S is dead set on creating a military blockade around China with the help of it's allies, but why should we be so involved? - It's difficult to tell the difference between what is propaganda and truth about China's threat to our “interests” - With how many allies the U.S. is collecting in The Pacific, it's hard to see how China will be able to position theirs just as strategically - You can't blame China's defense minister for his comments when people like Nancy Pelosi kick the proverbial hornets nest that is Taiwan - The boys take a quick tangent into the difference between communism and socialism before working through all the ways we could end up engaging in a conflict with China “Rock Lee is the David Goggins of Naruto” - The Dimes discuss what anime means to them - Daryl says that anime is a medium that gave him worlds, conflicts, information, and storylines that American cartoons weren't giving him - Sammy says that while anime hasn't changed his world view, it has at times, inspired him and introduced him to new philosophies - Later on Daryl confesses a kink he developed from a very specific scene in Ninja Scroll - What's compelling about anime is even child friendly cartoons like Naruto have more drama then any American cartoon - Art that distracts people to aggressively from the true nature of the world is detrimental, but why people love anime is that it supplies them with a level a realism that applies to the ups and downs they'll face in life - “At all levels of development, people want their intelligence respected”

Take a look at the market…It's not pretty. The stock market is floundering. The crypto market is floundering. Now cast your eye over the stock market in China…It has taken a beating the likes we've only seen previously in 2008/09 and more recently in March 2020 in the early stages of the pandemic. Some stocks that were the darlings of the market, Alibaba, JD.com, Baidu are trading upwards of 50% off their recent highs. Is China a happy hunting ground now? You can bet your bottom dollar if you've got any kind of emerging markets fund or ETF you'll have a big Chinese exposure. So do you load up for the long Chinese run back to power, or will there be some more pain before gain? And if China is on the comeback trail what does that means in the broader geopolitical landscape?Having seen Russia recently cut out of the global financial system, they've turned to their Chinese buddies for a bit of salvation, and there's talk of oil getting paid for in Yuan.So what?Who cares? What really matters is the optics of all this for the markets. And perhaps the really bigger story here is a glimpse at a precursor to a system of digital currency issued by central banks that is coming to your front door faster than you think. There is of course a fast and easy way to ensure that regardless of these geopolitical shenanigans you can build and grow wealth. Even when the markets are down, inflation is up and the cost of living is soaring, you can earn more money in new ways that defies all the headwinds we face. There's a few dots to connect and we certainly try to pick through the noise this week in what is an exciting, slightly worrying, but always optimistic episode of the Exponential Investor Podcast.Get your free ticket to the Climate Tech Fortunes Summit here: https://subscribe.exponentialinvestor.com/1975474/NWI

Summary: How do we minimize the ever-increasing debt? I have Richard Vague on the podcast to talk about the pursuit of financial stability—which has become extremely difficult in our times. His mission as a public official is looking at debt and putting together strategies to remediate this. Highlights: -Richard preaches a messages of financial stability, which he represents in his books -Perhaps a debt jubilee is what we need -His mission as a public official is looking at debt and putting together strategies to deal with this -Public and private sector debt are growing faster than GDP -Anytime debt in a sector grows too rapidly, it means over-capacity is being created -A debt boom creates illusory good times—jobs are being created, tax revenues at the government level are increasing, etc. Things appear to be really good -It is only in the aftermath that we see desire to do something about it, and oftentimes capitalism gets blamed -Vague puts out practical ideas for remediating debt that has been accumulated -What incentives can the government put out to avoid these debt situations? -The level of new homes being built right now are is below what it was in 2007 -Growth in debt has also come from lending standards/private equity lending -They estimate that there are 90 million empty residences in China -It used to be believed that credit creation went hand in hand with the increase of the money supply, but this is not necessarily the case -Our country is not in an enviable position in terms of debt -There is a mess coming down the road that will be hard to manage Useful Links: Financial Survival Network Richard Vague

In the run-up to this year’s US Presidential election, the only Asia topic that appears to loom large is China. And during these days, no self-respecting US politician can talk about this rising Superpower without saying something disparaging. Indeed, there’s hardly a businessman, legislator, or policy wonk within the Beltway who has anything positive or hopeful to say about US-China relations. Maybe that’s simply because there’s nothing to be gained politically by doing so. Americans need to blame someone for lost jobs, climate change, and a global pandemic – why not China? It’s a communist country, after all, and Americans are fond of blaming things on communists too.Remove yourself from this political quagmire and step outside of the U.S. and you get a more balanced – dare I say – sophisticated take on China, it’s role in the world, and the existential threat (if any) that it poses to a United States undergoing an identity crises. In this episode, I turn to two of the most thoughtful commentators on US-China relations. Jim McGregor and Craig Allen. Jim is Shanghai-based and a consummate China watcher, author, and a top advisor to US businesses in China. Craig is D.C.-based and President of the US-China Business Council. I had the pleasure of facilitating a hard-driving conversation between the two experts in a recent GetGlobal virtual event. In the course of this 55-minute tria-logue, we covered a lot of territory, challenged one another on some of the more popular US-centric characterizations of China, and contemplated prospects for a more constructive relationship between the two countries under a Biden administration.

Whats happening in the “rare earths” space? It’s a return engagement for Rocky Smith of Peak Resources, who’s here for the second time to give us a deeper insight to rare earth space. We talk about the effects of the recent trade war between USA and China on rare earth producers and consumers, and the biggest barriers to new operators for building and operating a rare earth refinery. The magnet space is about to slowly pick up momentum with the the increase of EV activity, so it's an interesting time for anyone who is in, or thinking of getting into, the rare earths space. KEY TAKEAWAYS Some of the suppliers in the US are having trouble with tariffs going into that market. China made the threat of withholding rare earths from the US, which highlighted the fact that the US have supported the Chinese government plan to control rare earths. They currently have 80% control of the rare earth market. The challenges facing companies and indeed countries, wishing to hunt for and produce rare earths, are economical and technological. President Trump’s order to increase magnet production for the US military is good news for the rare earths industry. By 2021, the demand will equal or exceed supply for existing manufacturing projects, and then going forward, the gap should widen. That’s why it’s important for new suppliers to be promoted and pushed to succeed. The plants for rare earth are complex and costly. If you have a process that deals with difficult minerals, then technically you have risks, so you need to be cautious when putting your finance plan together. .BEST MOMENTS ‘Most of the G7 countries were willing to take the value from the low cost Chinese rare earths, and let some manufacturing move from around the world and focus on China’ ‘It’s important to make sure we’re working on a number of things at the same time’ ‘It takes anywhere from five to ten years to get one of these things up and running’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Dig Deep – The Mining Podcast on iTunes Rocky Smith on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/rocky-smith-7a789210/?originalSubdomain=au Peak Resources - https://www.peakresources.com.au/member/rocky-smith/ ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is an established recruiter in the mining and quarrying sector and decided to produce the “Dig Deep” The Mining Podcast to provide valuable and informative content around the mining industry. Episode Notes Outrage is the theme of the day for the latest episode of This Week in the CLE, with the reporting and editing team here at cleveland.com chewing on no end of stories that had our jaws dropping over the past week. This Week in the CLE is published most Thursdays on your favorite podcasting platforms. Subscribe to make sure you never miss an episode. We begin with some scorn for a proposal backed by Attorney General Dave Yost to deprive local governments of their right to seek damages in court when they are wronged. Cuyahoga County, for example, has sued opioid makers to recover all the foster care and other costs the county has borne because of the drug crisis. Yost wants to take whatever money Cuyahoga has coming and have the state decide how to spend it. Politics Editor Jane Kahoun lays out the facts in a discussion with me and co-host Laura Johnston. What else is sparking outrage? How about a commercial making the rounds to scare Ohioans into thinking they are under assault from China? It’s an effort to persuade people not to sign a petition to allow Ohio voters to reject a sweet deal that legislators gave First Energy Solutions. The deal forces taxpayers to bail out the utility’s aging nuclear plants. Next on the list is a story Statehouse reporter Andrew Tobias wrote about a pro-gun group making waves because it thinks Ohio’s existing pro-gun groups are too tame. Jane has the lowdown on who is behind the group and whether its priority is gun rights or raising money. We also talk about another gun story, the creation of a “Do Something” website by Ohio Democrats. We talk with Jane about whether the Democrats have tapped into something that will resonate with their base. And we discuss a new proposal by the governor, thwarted thus far in his push for universal background checks, to unilaterally create a statewide database of warrants to be used for background checks. Another story out of Columbus: the efforts of phone companies to block robocalls. And we close the conversation with Jane with a mildly salacious divorce filing by the wife of an Ohio Supreme Court justice and son of the governor. From Columbus outrage, we move to Cleveland outrage, in a conversation Laura and I have with City Hall reporter Bob Higgs. Cleveland just learned of a little-known commission that might let the developer of a $175 million city project avoid paying any property taxes for 30 years. Cleveland city and school officials are furious. Bob also takes us through an auditor’s findings that a bunch of Cleveland City Council members have been failing to properly document their expenses. Council President Kevin Kelley, among the offenders, vows reforms. We ask Bob just how the council members could be getting things so wrong long after Council Member Ken Johnson’s expense reports became a big source of controversy. Bob also details the latest chapter in Cleveland’s electric scooter story, with the scooters finally having arrived. We get back to the outrage stories in. a discussion with courts reporter Cory Shaffer and crime reporter Adam Ferrise, who has details on a new indictment about a drug ring in the county jail. The indictment says a bunch of guards, working closely with a violent street gang, were operating the ring. Adam also talks about a guard, already charged with criminal abuse of an inmate, who now stands charged with trying to extort fellow guards into giving false testimony for him. Misbehaving guards are an offshoot of a bigger jail story, the inhumane conditions and constant lockdowns of inmates. Adam explains how he found out that dozens of inmates, having had enough of lockdowns, staged a protest inside the jail recently. Cory has the story about some other people who are fed up with what they see as ineffective law enforcement. He explains how some East Cleveland residents have taken steps to haul a number of city police officers... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
How to Source Products from China for Amazon with Ash Monga of Imex Sourcing When sourcing Amazon products from China, do sellers/retailers need to have staff on the ground in China? Do you need to have a native Chinese speakers and contacts? If so, how do you know who to trust? When you source products from China for Amazon, it does make a huge difference if you have native Chinese contacts - the majority of QC issues are down to communication issues. Communication is not just language, it’s culture and expectations as well. Having people on the ground does help. In low-trust countries like China and India, people like to do business with people they know. Trust in the legal systems is lower. Going to suppliers and presenting yourself and showing you have an established business. Price and credit terms are often improved. Suppliers like to visit offices - esp. those running small to medium sized factories. Their due diligence is knowing you in person and making a judgement call. How can you tell who works directly for a factory and who is an agent when you source products from China? Again due diligence is the key and being on the ground makes a difference. Imex also does this as part of ad-hoc company verification. When you source products from China, verify an individual to see if a person is actually employed in China when you source products for Amazon (or any other marketplace). They just call the factory. In the early days, one guy sat somewhere trying to convince someone is the boss Someone also claimed to be a manager but nobody recognised him! Factories have great relationships with trading company Does it even matter if someone is an agent? Yes it does, but if you’re a small buyer, it might not make a difference. The trading company does add value - eg speaking English Does it make a difference to price? Yes it does make an impact on pricing Does it affect quality? For Imex, it does make a difference to quality control How to source Amazon products from China Yourself Do I need to visit China? There are different views on this. Traditional importers are big on doing this. It comes down to ROI - for a $5000 order, there’s no point in spending $5000 on flying in and hotels etc. As volume increases, it makes sense. However these days you can do a lot online. What are the best ways to source from China online? Do due diligence - ad hoc supplier check from Imex $200-300 25 pages, supplier’s IP, financials etc. Put contract in place Have a solid QC As a minimum Have a Pre Shipment Inspection Get a carton of random products pulled out and shipped to you It adds a week or two to your supply process, but you keep control. How do you deal with contracts? Anything that goes wrong eventually translates into the contract - have 25 pages. It’s a great negotiation tool- Imex has a good track record of recovering money from suppliers when things go wrong. An English contract is better than nothing at all. Is it more powerful to have things in writing? Yes, it is a better negotiation tool. Send 5 page contract to some suppliers and it’s returned within 5 minutes stamped, so they don’t really read it unless things go wrong. Is it possible to get a lawyer draw up a Chinese contract? You can draw these things up online. If your goal is just to get the supplier on the same page, a simple contract in English. How should Amazon sellers outsource their sourcing from China? It’s very fragmented. Imex does full supply chain management Production management Contracts Supply chain management It comes down to something that is a fit for your needs. Imagine you are a Brazilian soybean producer located in the state of Mato Grosso, deep in midwestern Brazil, neighboring Bolivia. And you have clients waiting for your products in China. So, how do you get your soybeans to your Chinese customers? Convo with Kyle: Bishop Rhoades talks about his recently released pastoral letter and his call for the A Diocesan Day of Prayer and Penance (Friday, October 5, 2018) Bishop and Kyle also talk about St. Therese of Lisieux (October 1). Listener Questions: - 35:05 - At one time there were over 50 Franciscan Friars in the Fort Wayne area, why have they disbanded, with the majority going back to their hometowns? Is there truth to the rumor that the old Saint Andrews church will be torn down? Will the Cloistered order of Poor Clares remain? - 38:45 - What do you think about the fact that most religious catalogs and Catholic bookstores are full of goods from China? It bothers me because of the human rights problems China has. Shouldn't we try to create, and source these precious things in the USA, or at least in 'holier' countries? - 42:20 - What sparked your devotion to him [Bishop Simon Brute]? ------ RESOURCES: - Diocesan Day of Prayer and Penance - www.DioceseFWSB.org/DDP - Pastoral Letter from Bishop Kevin C. Will the next Steve Jobs be made in China? It's a distinct possibility. The past decade has seen enormous growth in entrepreneurial enterprises in China, but it is still a society and economy beset by censorship, piracy, corruption and state controls. Rebecca Fannin, Founder of Silicon Asia, and Edith Yeung, a Partner at RightVentures, will discuss the hurdles Chinese entrepreneurs encounter, the challenges both local and foreign investors face, and some of the strategies companies employ to make a splash in the Chinese consumer market and compete with global companies.
