Have you ever noticed how often, performing the smallest, routine tasks—rituals, if you will—can have a ripple effect that results in a big transformation? Keeping a journal, drinking tea, lighting a candle, taking daily walks, and taking the stairs instead of the elevator are just a few examples of simple, routine steps that might deliver a major impact physically or mentally over time. Tamara Castelo is a specialist in Chinese Traditional Medicine and the CEO of Tamara Castelo Clinic (Lisbon and Porto), TMC Health, TMC Holistic and TMC Jewelry. At her clinic, Tamara treats sleep disorders, thyroid disorders, intestinal diseases, anxiety, migraines, and hormonal problems with a holistic approach to healing. She is the author of two Gourmand Award winning books: Healing Without Medicine, Eating Without Guilt and Full Balance, (both available in Portuguese). Listen to this insightful Whinypaluza episode with Tamara Castelo about harnessing thoughts, habits, and mindfulness to help manage anxiety and illness, and how powerful the brain-body connection can be. Here is what to expect on this week's show: How Tamara's personal health challenges led her to Chinese Traditional Medicine and turning the focus on treating disease to improving health. How you can build effective, simple rituals into your daily life, whether it is for physical or mental health. Learning to truly listen to your body and decipher what it is trying to tell you. It starts with learning your own internal anatomy. If you can't find a way to make time for health, you will eventually need to make time for illness. Which would you prefer? We experience life with our body and our minds, meaning effects from trauma can manifest in either. Traumas are not only major events, but even small events that shaped you or affected you in a negative way. You can teach your mind to believe anything, but your body will remember everything. Tamara's focus on oncology and how she is able to positively impact treatment and outcomes. Each person cannot be treated the same, all treatments are subjective to the individual's needs and state of being. Why Tamara believes dairy and sugar are the first things that should be removed from your diet, and what nutrients you should focus on. What are the first 3 things to do for treating intestinal issues? What does anxiety stem from and are you paying attention to the signals your body is sending? What does health and well-being really mean? Today on the podcast I talk to Tâmara Castelo, a specialist in Chinese Traditional Medicine and the CEO of Tâmara Castelo Clinic (in Lisbon and Porto). Tâmara shares with us the importance of listening to our bodies for signs and symptoms way before they become bigger issues. We have to re-think the way our Western world defines health. Health does not mean the opposite of disease. Health is our happiness. Tâmara inspires us to pay attention to our poop as a big indicator of what's happening inside the body. Paying attention to our poop gives us information about what types of food our body processes well (and not so well). We explore why many people with anxiety have GI and digestive issues and three different ways you can offer your body some healing. When we live in a parasympathetic nervous system state, we have access to more creativity, motivation and we can even earn more money. Take a listen to the whole podcast and share your takeaways with us on Instagram @OneWade and @tamara__castelo. Curious to learn how to listen to your body more? Strengthening my mindfulness muscles over the years through formal and informal mindfulness practices has been a huge game changer in how I can hear/feel/know what my body is trying to communicate. It is a practice to untangle from our analytical focused world and let the body's wisdom guide us. If you are interested in strengthening your connection to your body, sign up for a complimentary connection call here to explore what working together can look like. ***** TÂMARA CASTELO is a specialist in Chinese Traditional Medicine and the CEO of Tâmara Castelo Clinic (Lisbon and Porto), TMC Health, TMC Holistic and TMC Jewellery. Do you truly understand your body on a physical and mental level? It can be challenging to tap into what makes us unique and how we should function in a healthy way if we don't take the time to slow down. Your body constantly sends you messages, which can come through as physical ailments and diseases. If we want to live a holistic, healthy life, it is our job to ask questions about how to work with our bodies instead of against them. In this episode, my guest Dr. Castelo shares her perspective on how we can begin to heal our body and mind from a negative and fight-or-flight state to a place of peace and alignment. Elephants, rhinos, and lions usually come to mind first in discussions about the China-Africa animal trade, not donkeys. But surging demand for donkey hides used to manufacture a Chinese traditional medicinal product is having a devastating impact on rural populations across Africa that depend on this essential farm animal. In countries like Kenya, illegal poaching and unregulated slaughterhouses have led to a near-50% plunge in the number of donkeys.Lauren Johnston, a consultant senior researcher at the South African Institute of International Affairs, joins Cobus to discuss her latest research on the topic and why the illicit China-Africa donkey trade is having a disproportionate impact on women in rural African farming communities.SHOW NOTES:South African Institute of International Affairs: China, Africa, and the Market for Donkeys: Keeping the Cart Behind the Donkey by Lauren Johnston: https://bit.ly/3mykKTWNikkei Asia: China must tame its donkey trade for Africa's sake by Lauren Johnston: https://s.nikkei.com/408AXg8The Standard: Donkey population has gone down by 800,000 by Antony Kitonga: https://bit.ly/4162xMAJOIN THE DISCUSSION:Twitter: @ChinaGSProject| @stadenesque | @eric_olander | @lajohnstondrYouTube: www.youtube.com/chinaafricaprojectFacebook: www.facebook.com/ChinaAfricaProjectFOLLOW CAP IN FRENCH AND ARABIC:Français: www.projetafriquechine.com | @AfrikChineعربي: www.akhbaralsin-africia.com | @AkhbarAlSinAfrJOIN US ON PATREON!Become a CAP Patreon member and get all sorts of cool stuff, including our Week in Review report, an invitation to join monthly Zoom calls with Eric & Cobus, and even an awesome new CAP Podcast mug!www.patreon.com/chinaafricaprojectSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Pre-recorded from Canada in our friend's secondary bedroom...it's YKS! This week on the show we take over BP Studios in unseasonably waaaaarm Vancouver, British Columbia, and force Blocked Party hosts John Cullen and Stefan Heck to participate in some main episode nonsense such as: talking to Producer Dan (off-mic), criticizing a perfect stranger's dreams and goals, and mispronouncing words in a way that gives plausible deniability to a claim that we were just joking. Plus! We got a very, uh, ambitious attempt to explain Chinese Traditional Medicine to Westerners, a podcast that's worse than most of ours probably, and a cat backpack that not even a catfreak would like! Sounds like enough to do a show about, huh? Yep, we thought so too.Music for YKS is courtesy of Howell Dawdy, Craig Dickman, Mr. Baloney, and Mark Brendle. Additional research by Zeke Golvin. How much sleep do you get each night? Do you wake in the early hours, unable to get back to sleep? Poor sleep is another modern ‘epidemic' that is weakening the concentration, souring the mood, and darkening the days of many people. Could knowing your ‘organs' body clock' or gauging your ‘metabolic efficiency' help where prescription drugs fail? Chinese Traditional Medicine highlights the relationship between the human body and nature – ‘when the sun rises, so too does the energy in our bodies.' How can we harness this ancient wisdom and lower the impact of modern living – like the radiation from our devices – to sleep better and live healthier? …in this episode of ☀️#VitalSigns with Brendon Fallon. ⭕️Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

Yvonne Wolf, our guest on the show this week, is an intercultural communicator who specializes in Asia. She tells us this is the philosophy of aging in Eastern Asia. I think it is also a privilege. Yvonne talks about the Asian mindset when it comes to exercise, diet, menopause, aging, and how the Asians revere those who are older. One story describes the surgeon general of Taiwan coming to senior centers to commend the people on staying healthy! Also, the grandmother holds status! Viewed as powerful, they take charge of budgets and other family matters. Older people are always the “go-to” for advice! The age of CEO’s in Asia is generally at least 50 years old. So, we’ve just touched the surface. Yvonne will come back on the show and talk about: The Chinese Zodiac and You Why Life Starts At 60 Chinese Traditional Medicine and A Healthier You. So, take a listen - a perfect length for a walk!

PlantStories: The Modern, the old, and the crazy in between!
This week we talk about the Ephedra plant, which is both thought to be one of the oldest plants cultivated for medicine and the plant which ephedrine is derived from. Join us as we take a look at this plant, it's uses, and effects on the world. With origins in some of the driest regions of the world, it seems quite strange that Ephedra has risen to fame as one of the most commonly used medicines in the world. It is another plant that was considered a staple in Chinese Traditional Medicine and has since come to be the primary ingredient in medicine that treat respiratory illnesses. It also has some more unfortunate uses as well, being that plant that methamphetamine are derived from, a compound that was made just before World War Two. We hope you'll give this episode a listen, and join us as we see the impact that Ephdera has had on the world in this episode of PlantStories. Also we did manage the audio so I could actually hear Krista! How is Chinese Traditional Medicine a form of spiritual healing? We work our way through the yin and yang theory, organs, disorders, and the divine penetrating illumination as we try and make sense of how and why this ancient practice works for modern patients.
Born and raised on the beautiful South Shore of Nova Scotia, Jessica May's curiosity and desire to "experience it all" has led her into many distant lands, highs/lows, hobbies, friendships, spiritual practices, experiments, etc. Endowed with her 5 senses (and learning to trust her 6th sense too), she is pretty much a 'dancing flame of song' that longs to Know and be Known, and grow beyond the perceived restraints that try and keep her from exploring all of Life. Jessica thinks "titles and labels" are helpful and very useful at times, but often they leave one feeling boxed-in and truly unknown beyond the surface of our skin or skill-sets. Because she believes we are all so much more than these headlines we take for ourselves and give to each other, she is much more interested in what comprises one with strength of character and integrity, what makes a heart skip a beat or burst into laughter, what brings one to a state of wonder and awe, and how one approaches the pains of one's own life and the lives of others. Wrestling with more questions than answers and navigating through life's ever-changing tides, this delight of a woman (who also happens to enjoy fine dinners out, with dashingly fine men who know the value of honouring the feminine qualities she possesses - hint hint, she's single) is certainly; one of kind. You can get a taste of some of her creative expression https://www.facebook.com/Jessica-Uhlman-Fine-Art-1410997039196589/
