This week, Mark and Allen break down the Episode where Chris tells himself to ... STOP ... POOPING!!! The flu is sweeping across Pawnee, with Ann caring for many of the sick, including April (who still resents Ann for kissing Andy). While Ron visits April, she asks him not to tell Andy she's there. With April gone, Ron does ask Andy to fill in as an assistant, believing (correctly) that Andy will be ineffective. Meanwhile, Leslie is preparing for a presentation with the Pawnee Chamber of Commerce, and it becomes clear Leslie is not feeling well, but she won't admit it because of the importance of the presentation. Ben finally takes a reluctant Leslie to the hospital, Ann admits her, and Ben tells her not to worry, he and Tom will do the presentation, which Leslie is not happy about. A bit later, a flu-ridden Chris is checked into the hospital, having a total physical breakdown. Ann has been dating Chris, and really likes him, but fears he is too perfect... until now. Meanwhile, instead of helping Ben prepare for the presentation, Tom abandons him to hang out at a spa. As the day goes on, Ron and Andy bond over many things, including food, drink, football, and politics, with Andy eventually feeling comfortable enough with Ron to tell him about his problems with April. To top things off, a delirious and over-medicated Leslie escapes the hospital and heads back to City Hall to do the presentation herself! Never fear - as always, we answer all the questions others are afraid to even verbalize, such as ... Will April's constant poking at Ann make her break? Will Andy ever find out April is at the hospital? How will Ann feel about Chris now that he is essentially a puddle of goo? Does Tom ever come back from the spa? Will Leslie make it to City Hall? Will Ben decide to introduce himself musically? Will Ron and Andy ever successfully complete a passing play outside? Will the Harvest Festival fail before it even starts? Loyal podcast viewers, this is one of the BEST episodes of the series - fight us about it! Or, just tune in and enjoy it. Yes, that's probably better. Many thanks to our awesome sponsor, Big Head Joe's.

This week, Mark and Allen break down the Episode that introduces Chris Traeger and Ben Wyatt! We start out learning [a] April is turning 21 and having her birthday party at The Snakehole Lounge, [b] Ann has ended things with Mark, and [c] Leslie has prepared a budget proposal for the Lot 48 Park. However, later that morning city manager Paul Iaresco announces all proposals are postponed indefinitely due to the budget crisis, and state auditors have been sent to solve the issue. Leslie fears severe cuts, while Ron is delighted. Meanwhile, Andy is clearly showing interest in April, but worries about the 8 year age difference. Also, Mark shows confusion about his breakup with Ann because they never fought or argued, while Ann explains they just didn't have the right chemistry/passion. We learn Tom has ulterior motives for April's party to invite (then hit on) every available hottie he knows. Auditors Chris Traeger and Ben Wyatt arrive, with Chris painting an optimistic picture of how they will fix things. When Ben finally explains they need to slash the budget by 40 to 50 percent, Leslie lashes out at Ben, who reminds her the poorly-managed government is to blame. Later at April's party, Leslie and Ann get extremely drunk. Tom is frustrated at his inability to pick up women. Andy and April are getting along, but when he goes to the bar to get April's drink, a drunken Ann flirts with him. This upsets April, who tries to make Andy jealous by flirting with Jean-Ralphio. Ben arrives and tries to smooth things over with a drunken Leslie, but she once more lashes outand tells him to get lost. The next morning Ann enlists Leslie's help in figuring out... who she made out with the prior night! Holy cow, folks, these are the sort of questions that send others running for cover, but we refuse to shy away from, such as... Will Pawnee's budget crisis get resolved? Can Ann ever forgive herself for flirting with Andy? Does Tom's bottlecap game yield any fruit? Can Leslie ever get along with Ben? Will April make Jean-Ralphio her new boyfriend? Does Ann find out who she made out with? Loyal podcast viewers, this extra-long, extra special episode is one-of-a-kind, and we encourage everyone to watch it. Many thanks to our sponsor, JJ's Diner.

Discussion of The Fellowship of the Ring, Chapter Eight Join Cam and Maggie for (hopefully) the last ever appearance of Tom Bombadil. Oh no wait, Frodo summons him back the second we get rid of him. We struggle through another chapter of nonsense words and third person singing, but this time it is punctuated by bits of action, intriguing symbolism, and – Dementors? Luckily, we just rewatched Prisoner of Azkaban, so we’re in a good position to catch the thirty thousand parallels between this chapter and that book. Oh boy. Cam finds some more evidence that Goldberry is a ghost and Maggie breaks down some of the surreal nature description that Tolkien does here while constantly referencing The Evil Dead (lots of fog and severed arms!) We also work through the many Tom / Gandalf comparisons and try to identify the real Daddy of Middle-earth. Cam stretches himself and attempts to analyze a dream, and he even manages to go a whole episode without mentioning Winnie the Pooh. The conversation grinds to a halt so we can appreciate Tom’s wonderful, portly old horse – Fatty Lumpkin. And then finally, finally, the chapter ends with the journey truly beginning. We celebrate and do some post-mortem on the three-chapter Tom Bombadil saga that derailed the entire book’s sense of momentum and urgency. Does Tom redeem himself with this appearance? In our Second Breakfast segment, Cam leads us on a jolly philosophical excursion inspired by the newly released 4K versions of The Lord of the Rings. Topics include: when is art finished? When should we stop paying attention to revisions? What is the definitive version of a work of art? We work through these ideas with unkind references to Star Wars, as well as more charitable comments about Saw, It, The Hateful Eight, and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It's time to talk about Kate Bush. Tom walks us all through her childhood right up to her fascinating and divisive first single, "Wuthering Heights." Is she a feminist? The two get chippy about the UT pass protection and what has caused that unit to play below their talent. Paul reminds us why he shouldn't be playing shortstop in the ninth inning & how baffling personnel decisions bit the Horns again. Is it over with? The question of the day is.... What are y'all so butthurt about? Well, as we quickly approach the end of 2019, one can only hope that 2020 will be less touchy and bring back the beautiful edge of art that has been sorely lacking this year, due to the fun-sucking stench of hyper political correctness and cancel culture. It certainly wasn't a total loss of a year tho. Out of the political / entertainment outrage tire fire, we were bless with emergences of boundary pushing art and artists like Dave Chappelle, Joker, and of course, the continual rise of Tom MacDonald. If you're not familiar with Tom yet, it's time to change that and never look back. For the last few years, rap artist Tom MacDonald has been rapidly rising in popularity in the music scene with his controversial tracks on topics like race ("Straight White Male", "White Boy", "If I was Black"), political correctness ("Politically Incorrect", "Everybody Hates Me", "Buttholes"), and now taking it a step even further into the outrage realms by touching on conspiratorial hot-button topics ("Cloned Rappers", "Trying to Kill Me") saying everything from "9/11 was an inside job" to "the Illuminati is real" to Eminem being a clone since his album, Encore. Long story short, whatever your flavor of outrage, there's a good chance Tom has something in his arsenal to wad your panties too. But is there more to Tom Macdonald than just an elaborate, talented, button pushing, troll? Does Tom really believe in the things he's talking about or is it all just for those delicious outrage clicks? What's next in store for the hip hop prince of political incorrectness? All that and so much more on today's episode of The System is Down episode 135: Conspiracies, Controversy, and General Badassery w. Tom MacDonald Question Everything. Stay Uncomfortable. I sometimes see myself as "FAT Tom". But God doesn't. Neither do the people who know and love me. I often look at myself through the worst possible eyes. Do you do the same thing? Hello again. It's pastor Tom and this particular podcast is called "Here comes FAT Tom" There's a passage of scripture that's an interesting statement in First Samuel 16:7 that says that God doesn't look at our physical stature and He doesn't judge us by our outward appearance. God doesn't care about our physical stature. It says on the other hand, man man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart and that's First Samuel 16:7, and that is a very good reminder of the way God views us. He (God) views the heart... and it's also a very true statement about people... and about you and I... because we look too much (especially really about when it comes to our own self), we are far too critical of ourselves and we see what in our mind our physical imperfections and we blow that way out of proportion. And we we kind of view ourselves through through those eyes of only seeing our worst possible self. So the title of this again is "Here Comes FAT Tom". I did a video recording just yesterday of myself and another pastor. We were talking about a particular cause that we're we're promoting in the community that is going to help people and so we're doing this video to explain that... and I I looked at myself on that video and immediately my eyes went toward my stomach and how fat I am on that video because... that's just something that I've kind of picked on myself about for years... and so in my mind it's "FAT Tom. And you know, I had to I had to remind myself of the truth that... yeah, I am heavier than I should be, and my stomach is too big. By the way, I'm trying to eat better and trying to lose weight you know, remind myself of that. But also remind myself of the truth that other people don't see me as "FAT Tom". Now if, if they were to be asked, you know, is is Tom heavier than it should be? Does Tom have a belly? They would say, Yes. Yeah, I guess so. But yet they see me as Tom, or they see me as Pastor Tom. They see me as what they love about me or like in me and they see the relationship that they have with me. They just see me as Tom, not FAT Tom... I mean, how cruel would would that be? By the way, you don't do that with other people. If somebody might be overweight, or somebody has a big nose or someone you know, is losing their hair or someone walks pigeon-toed or whatever else they might have. You don't see them as "Pigeon-toed Pam". You don't see them as "Bald Barry". You just see them as Barry or you see them as Pam. Do you see what i'm saying? Barry probably sees himself as "Bald Barry". And Pam probably sees herself as "Pigeon-toed". She probably criticizes herself or he does... and maybe, maybe he sometimes (like me), even feels intimidated about that or even allows the day to be ruined. Because they think "everyone's looking at my bald head" or "everyone just sees me as imperfect in the way that I walk." And...and yet other people just see them as someone that they love and someone that they know. So I could... I can... if I allow this to get out of control being that I'm on stage a lot... I could, I could feel like everyone's looking at my stomach or everyone's (you know), thinking I'm fat and allow that to, to hurt my effectiveness as a pastor or speaker or allow that certainly to ruin my experience at that moment. Instead of just saying, Hey, you know, I do have a problem with my weight. I am working on it. I do have a problem with my weight. But it's just, it's just who I am and where I'm at right now in life. But that doesn't have to mean that I have to project myself like that, or even put myself self down or see myself as "FAT Pastor Tom". And just as a reminder, God doesn't look at me that way either. And for you and for myself, it's good to remember that God doesn't see us as (you know), the the sin that most embarrasses us, or most trips us up. God doesn't see us as you know... whatever that sin is, and then put your name behind it. You know, instead of "FAT Tom", you know, whatever that whatever that sin as and then label you as is that sin and then put your name. You know what I'm saying? God doesn't see you that way. God just sees you as someone that he loves. As someone that he has a relationship with someone that he cares about, who happens to have the struggle here and there in his or her life. But God doesn't see you or see me as "FAT Tom". He sees me as someone that he cares about, and loves very deeply. So, I know that when you look at me, you're not saying "Here comes FAT Tom"... you're just saying... "Here comes Tom. We love Tom. We care about Tom. And yeah, I suppose if you were to really think about it. Yeah, he does have a big belly. He has a little overweight, but that's not how I view him." So the encouragement for you is to not view yourself from your own bad vision, you know, in your own way of distorting the reality of who you are. Stop viewing yourself in the worst possible light. Stop viewing yourself from whatever it is that you most hate about yourself... that you're most embarrassed about yourself... that you wish that you didn't look this way or you could change. Stop viewing yourself from that lens and blowing that way out of proportion. Just see yourself as Tom... or put your name in there. Whatever your name is. Just see yourself as who you are. Because that's the way God does. And by the way, that's the way the people who love you do as well.................. Thanks for listening. We'll talk again next time. I'd like to thank a friend of mine Kendra Dahlstrom... for sponsoring this episode. Kendra and I provide content for our free Facebook group which you are invited to join. Just go to Facebook, look for the groups tab on the left search for Live Into Your Calling Membership Group, and asked to join. That's it. Apparently, some people have a problem with drinking games for the State of the Union. What is going on with people? Does Tom hate Trump? Or love him? And people like Bernie Sanders want to tax the billionaires of the country. Is that going to work? Or is it just them trying to push the Democrats to the left? Would the policy even do anything?

What’s more impressive: that Tom Cruise is still making Mission: Impossible movies into his 50s or that Chance and Noah recorded 100 episodes of Be Reel? Feels like a toss-up, and reviewing all six MIs is our chosen victory lap. Inspired by the current box office hit, “Fallout”, Chance and Noah look to the Brian de Palma origins of the franchise, the John Woo growing pains, and the JJ Abrams-ification of the Cruise-produced series. Does Tom’s personal/tabloid life almost perfectly mirror the arc of his character Ethan Hunt? Does Tom have more sex appeal than Jeremy Renner and Henry Cavill (living embodiment of Gaston) combined? How is it these movies are about everything internationally relevant but nothing important? All will be addressed on this special 90-minute megapod edition!

This event is laser-focused on growth strategies and brings together some remarkable thought leaders from around the country. I attended last year and was thoroughly impressed all around -- and that was just their first year! The next conference will be in San Diego in 2018, and I’ve already booked my spot. Go to pmgrowsummit.com to learn more, and enter promo code “Brad” to get a $100 discount on your ticket! We’re also sponsored by Marc Cunningham of Grace Property Management. Marc has created some amazing products for property management companies, which we can say firsthand as we’ve implemented his systems here. Visit their website and try out their products! To get a 10% discount on any of Marc’s products, use the promo code “Brad”! Today, I have the honor of being joined by the remarkable and knowledgeable Tom Sedlack. Tom is a longstanding NARPM member and instructor teaching cash flow analysis. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to take his class, and found it incredibly valuable. If you want to experience his knowledge firsthand too, don’t miss out on his upcoming speech in Orlando at the NARPM National Convention! In this episode, we’ll mostly talk about a separate business model that you may want to consider for your management company: HOA management. As Tom explains, he and his wife manage 20 HOA associations with a total of over 1,000 HOA doors. These are spread across two areas: the Twin Cities and Kansas City. (And yes, Tom will also touch on how he handles running a company in two locations.) Throughout our conversation, we explore the details of HOA management. We’ll talk, for example, about how it’s different from standard property management, how Tom got started in working with HOAs, and what the process is for winning HOA clients. Tom also offers fantastic insight into the details of running this part of his company with recommendations about software, checklists, and much more. Brad Straubinger interview with Tom Green, as we cover his career from public access to feature films. Does Tom still talk to Trump, eat mice, or stay in touch with David Letterman? What about an article ranking his MTV show 40th worst tv show of all time? What does he think about Jackass basically copying his template? And how did he come from public access to still tour comedy clubs to this day? It's all here...
Today’s guest, Tom Patterson and I talk about the dangers of the modern online world. A world in which just about everything about you is tracked by various machines and companies and is then sold -- after you willingly give away your rights to this information. A world in which there’s a second version of the internet, full of people selling nefarious services. A world including innumerable people ready to steal your entire online identity and then ransom it back to you. Luckily, he’s here to teach you some tips and tricks to help you stay safe in an increasingly risky world. Find Out More About Tom Here: Tom Patterson on LinkedInTom TalksTom Patterson of Unisys In This Episode: [02:24] - Tom discusses what he believes we regular people need to do to protect ourselves from a privacy and security standpoint. In his answer, he points out that the world is changing around us, so we need to change with it. [04:17] - Security is more and more a part of the public psyche, Tom explains. He then talks about ransomware, which generally happens to people through phishing. [08:46] - Stephan recaps what Tom has been saying to make it clear for listeners. Tom then expands on what Stephan has said. [10:01] - Is there insurance to cover losses through phishing and similar scams? [10:35] - Stephan gives an example of a very clever phishing technique that may have caught people off-guard. Tom then gives another example. [12:51] - Stephan’s aunt was scammed not too long ago, he reveals. [14:20] - We hear about another example that Stephan has seen in a Black Mirror episode, which Tom reveals is taken from real life. Stephan and Tom then talk about putting bandaids or tape over computer cameras. [16:35] - Tom shares some ways you can better protect yourself. The first of these is to stop giving things away and make conscious trades about privacy invasion, which he discusses in great detail. [19:42] - You can sometimes change permissions, Stephan explains. Tom then points out how hard these settings often are to find. [22:46] - Another step in protecting yourself is by making it harder for the bad guys. People are generally using better, more complex passwords now -- but the problem is that they are now using that one complex password everywhere. [26:06] - Tom advises lying in one particular instance: the security questions for forgotten passwords. [27:22] - There is one foolproof way not to click on dangerous links in phishing emails, Tom explains: don’t click on any links. If you get an email from your bank, for example, close that email, open a new web browser session, and go to your bank’s website directly. [29:00] - What does Tom think about password managers to keep track of your various complex passwords or passphrases? [30:36] - Tom offers another piece of advice, which is to turn off your computer and leave your phone outside the room if you’re going to have a sensitive business conversation. Computers can easily be turned into bugging devices. [32:13] - How does this work in terms of devices such as, for example, Amazon Echo? Should listeners get rid of these devices? [34:20] - Tom shares another easy, free step to be more secure: turn off automatic images in your email. [35:27] - Tom differentiates between malware and adware. Stephan then talks about an example of nasty adware. [37:25] - Does Tom have tips or tools for how to remove adware or malware? [39:24] - We learn more about two-factor authentication and biometrics. What’s coming into play in the future, though, is behavioral biometrics, which Tom explains in some depth. [43:01] - Stephan points out why two-factor authentication is particularly important for Google and Facebook. [44:33] - What is the Dark Web, and why should we care about it? [46:59] - There are a dozen or so anonymous currencies used on the dark web, of which Bitcoin is the most popular. [48:00] - Tom talks more about Bitcoin [49:43] - We learn more about finding things on the dark web, which often requires you to build up a dark web reputation first. [51:08] - What tips would Tom like to recommend in terms of protecting yourself from identity theft? [53:40] - Tom talks about his high-level security clearance, touching on how people can get cleared and what the downside is. He also shares the advice that he gives to teenagers. Real Estate Investing Profits Master Series with Cory Boatright
I’m really excited about my guest today because his outlook on business is a little different than anybody else I’ve had on the show. Tom Olson has managed to incorporate giving back into his KPI, and his investment strategy focuses on giving back to people just as much as he turns profits for himself. This kind of perspective, and the advice he’s giving out for young people today, is extremely important to your and my continued success in this business. Tom’s real estate investment strategy is all about adding value. He uses wholesaling and leasing options to grow his turnover, but he also loves lending and manages to use that to his benefit as well. You might think this kind of success is hard to come by. How can you achieve so much and share so much at the same time? When you think outside of yourself, that process becomes much easier. Because achievement doesn’t happen overnight. Achievement is a process, a process that you share with others and work on with others. Joining me today is our very own Tom Britton, Co-Founder & CTO @ SyndicateRoom, one of the UK’s leading equity crowdfunding platforms having raised £40m in funding for startups last year and having recently raised their own round on their own platform, so a big congrats to them for that and in the show today we discuss the future for crowdfunding in fluctuating credit cycles, why one business is more suitable for crwdfunding than another and the effect of Title III, will it have the ramficiations everyone is expecting? 1.) How did Tom come to co-found SyndicateRoom from a little office in Cambridge? 2.) How will crowd investing perform during a different part of the credit cycle? Does Tom think crowd investing will do well when interest rates rise and defaults rates increase? 3.) What makes a business suitable for crowdfunding vs suitable for VC, and in which case should a business do something like Beaulah did and utilise both? How does Tom compare SyndicateRoom to Angelist? 4.) With the recent announcement of Title III in the US, a friend Ryan Caldbeck, Co-Founder @ CircleUp told me that unaccredited investors would get the worst dealflow as the best startups go to VCs and get funded, those that do not get rejected by them, then go to angels, then go to HNW’s and then when everyone else has rejected them then they go to unaccredited giving them the worst dealflow. What are Tom's thoughts on this and how can we solve for this? 5.) Does Tom see institutional capital entering crowd investing at any point? Would Tom be averse to this? 6.) What does the roadmap look like for the crowdfunding space as a whole in the next 10 years? What are Tom's predictions?
