The reconstruction of a 46-mile transmission line passing through parts of Bexar, Wilson, and Karnes counties shouldn't require the acquisition of additional easement. That's good news for landowners along the line's path, which extends generally south-southeast from CPS Energy's Spruce substation southeast of San Antonio to the utility's Pawnee substation southwest of Karnes City. “We plan to stay within the existing easement,” said LeeRoy Perez, a CPS Energy vice president for transmission and distribution engineering, at a Nov. 18 open house at the Early Childhood Center in Floresville for interested area residents. My guest today is Melissa McKenzie. Melissa holds a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Stephen F. Austin University and is one of our favorite presenters at live conferences every year. She is an Early Childhood Professional who is committed to making learning a joyful journey. She has written faith-based and movement curricula and taught in a large Early Childhood Center, she was the FCS Childhood Guidance/Human Resource Practicum Teacher, and Preschool Director for Cypress Ranch Preschool for the last seven years. Today, she is a new grandmother and takes care of her grandson while his parents are at work. In this podcast episode, I get to ask Melissa about her passion for teaching young children about God's word. She is going to emphasize the importance of making the Bible concrete and relatable for children, rather than just telling them stories, and share with us her conviction that children rely on adults to teach them about God and it is an important task we shouldn't take lightly. Melissa shares practical examples of how she teaches the Bible to babies and toddlers, using object lessons and active participation. She also will discuss the importance of praying with young children and making it a personal and meaningful experience for them. She will give us insight into how repetition and reinforcement of lessons through various methods, such as weekly notes home and monthly activities for families can help as a tool. Overall, Melissa emphasizes the need for adults to approach teaching children about God with creativity, passion, and a deep understanding of the impact it can have on their lives. It's easy to tell that Melissa is passionate about teaching young children the truth of God's word at their level. I hope you will be inspired (maybe even a little bit convicted) to do better as you teach these little souls who God is. Weave spiritual truth into your everyday interactions as much as you can and also be intentional about what you're teaching. Melissa is a wonderful resource and you can find her on her website (linked below). We'd love to hear how YOU make God more real to the young children in your care! Let us know your best ideas via email or our social media channels. We'd love to connect. It was when my daughter, now thirteen, was part of the infant and toddler program in her Early Childhood Center that I gained a new appreciation for the ‘fight or flight' response of human behavior. It is a term that I had always heard but never truly understood. That is, until I was there myself and had an opportunity to watch these new crawlers learn to navigate their way with through their shared space. Each week, a member of the clergy offers their personal perspective on a topic of their choice, such as the week's Torah portion, a Jewish holiday, ritual, custom, or history. Immediately after Haman's shame at being forced to honor Mordecai, he is taken to Queen Esther's second feast. There Esther reveals her request to Ahasuerus: she asks that he spare her and her people from destruction. When the king asks who is behind such wickedness, Esther names Haman as the foe. As Haman realizes his imminent demise, he pleads for his life from Queen Esther, but the king sees it as an assault on his wife and orders that Haman be executed on the very tree Haman had intended for Mordecai's death. To see Haman receive what he deserved in being executed on a tree reminds us of the curse of our sin that Jesus took upon Himself when He went to the cross for our salvation. Rev. Jason Schockman, pastor at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, School, and Early Childhood Center in Oconomowoc, WI, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Esther 6:14-7:10. "For Such a Time As This” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through the book of Esther. Although God is never explicitly named in the book of Esther, He remains the One who directs all the events of the book. Happenings that seem coincidence, chance, or luck are truly God at work. He puts Mordecai and Esther in the right places and moments to work through them to deliver His people.
In this episode of The Early Link Podcast, host Rafael Otto sits down with Liane Chappell, at the Hillsboro Early Childhood Center in Hillsboro, Oregon, to talk about Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education. Chappell is the principal at the Early Childhood Center, located at the Northwest Regional Education Service District (NWRESD). The goal of the Early Childhood Center is to serve kids who have delays and disabilities, and to help them make progress in the areas where they need support. Notably, their aim is to serve every child in an inclusive, natural environment – whether that's at home, in the classroom, or running errands with their family. “I've always had a passion for inclusion and for wanting to see kids with disabilities be a part of their community like every other kid,” said Chappell. “That's what has driven me throughout my time at NWRESD and even prior to that in early childhood. I'm working to see every kid be included and get the opportunities that they deserve.” We think you'll want to hear the rest of Liane's story. Listen now!

Just before the start of Summer, my husband and I experienced a right of passage for any Jewish parent. We witnessed our oldest son be “Shabbat Boy,” at Wilshire Boulevard Temple's Early Childhood Center. One of the highlights of the morning was the “mitzvah song.” The whole class (grown ups included) sits around in a circle, while the Shabbat child, in this case, Joey, walks around collecting each child's tzedakah, their charity for Shabbat. Each week, a member of the clergy offers their personal perspective on a topic of their choice, such as the week's Torah portion, a Jewish holiday, ritual, custom, or history.
Students in the pre-kindergarten program in the Floresville Independent School District (ISD) will attend classes in one location this fall, instead of on the Floresville North and South elementary campuses. The Floresville Early Childhood Center is opening in the recently renovated building adjacent to the district's Central Administration Office, at 1205 Fifth Street. “The decision was made due to capacity issues at both campuses,” said Dr. Jason Gilstrap, district superintendent. “Classroom space was near capacity at North and exceeded capacity at South, where portable classrooms were already being used.” As Floresville ISD anticipates continued growth, the early childhood campus is...Article Link
For the month of June we will be exploring Prayer. Pastor Chad invites us to consider our relationship with prayer. When thinking about what we were taught about prayer he gets some help from some friends in the Early Childhood Center. How has what we were taught held up as we got older? Then we are asked why we pray. Are we trying to bend God's will in our favor? In this week's text Jesus teaches the disciples, and us, how & why to pray. We pray together as part of a community that God's vision for creation might be fulfilled on earth, we pray that we would play our role in restoring relationships and meeting the pressing needs of our neighbors.

The Floresville Independent School District (ISD) will reopen its Early Childhood Center (ECC) in the fall, as the district prepares for growth in the area. The district has already seen an increase in student population since its Early Childhood Center closed in 2011. According to Floresville ISD Communication Specialist Blanca Martinez, the Early Childhood Center closed when Floresville North Elementary School opened. The district began discussing the transfer of the prekindergarten program from North and South elementary schools back to the center last fall. This is mainly due to concern about student population growth and limited space at both elementary...Article Link

The La Jolla Country Day School Early Childhood Center's (ECC) goal is to provide each child an environment that offers developmentally appropriate activities to encourage social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth as well as personal responsibility. La Jolla Country Day School’s Lower School is a place where parents are often reminded of the best aspects of their childhood. Welcome to the first episode of Ground Truthing, a Westchester Children’s Association podcast where we offer policy insights from the ground up. This month, we will discuss the state of early childhood education through the perspective of Carol Robinson of the Greyston Early Learning Center. Robinson began as the Director, Early Education at Greyston in 2015. During her time, she expanded their infant program and formed new partnerships and enhanced curriculum. Recently, it was announced that Greyston will close the Early Childhood Center where Robinson is the director. According to Greyston, the center will be closing due to a consistent lack of sufficient funding to cover operating costs associated with running the center. After our interview with Carol, we will be joined by Executive Director of the Child Care Council of Westchester, Kathy Halas, to discuss the impact of the Greyston Early Childcare Center closing and where the county stands on providing adequate access to quality, affordable early education. Ground Truthing is a Westchester Children's Association production. The show is edited by Eloise Sherrid. Original music is composed by Al Saniuk.
