Deep down, we all crave to be our truest selves. But what if we're afraid that our culture has no place in Christian spaces? Recording artist, author, and academic Sho Baraka argues that our faith doesn't have to exist separate from the rest of the world. On this episode of VOICES's Where Ya From? podcast, Sho joins host Rasool Berry to discuss his book He Saw That It Was Good and his walk with Jesus so far. Guest Bio: After attending Tuskegee University and the University of North Texas, where he studied Television/Film, Anthropology, and Public Administration, Sho Baraka has spent the last fourteen years traveling the world as a recording artist, performer, and culture curator. His overseas work has ranged from leading seminars about race relations in South Africa to establishing artist hubs in Indonesia. Sho is also co-founder of The And Campaign and currently serves as Adjunct Professor at Warner Pacific University. His first book, He Saw That It Was Good (2021), was nominated for an Audie Award. Sho lives in Atlanta, GA with Patreece, his wife of eighteen years, and their three children; one daughter and two sons. Notes & Quotes: “. . . Why don't we call Frederick Douglass and Tubman a theologian? Why don't we see them as people who are worthy of being read and talked about in the pulpit?” “If God cares about our physical being, He also cares about our physical liberation, our physical freedom, our ability to move.” “I feel like a lot of evangelical history has not really been honest about their heroes.” “. . . God is a God of grace and forgiveness. And that our enemies are not too far gone, that they're beyond redemption. And that we're not as righteous as we think we are.” Links Mentioned: Order Sho's book. Learn more about Sho on his website. Listen to Sho's music on the Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom soundtrack. Anne Johnstonbrown interviews television, film and improvisational actor Megan Heyn: Megan was born in northern California, but her time there was brief. Her family ventured to several states during her youth, including: Nevada, Maryland, Arizona, and Colorado. The youngest of three kids, her flare for drama surfaced by age three when she told her parents she wanted to be an actress and refused to appear in public without her pink tutu.Growing up she was fascinated and inspired by classic films and their actors, especially MGM musicals. She was probably the only twelve year old who scouted the TV Guide every Sunday to see which movies from AMC she wanted to record and delight in throughout the week. She even asked for TCM for Christmas because she felt that they had a better choice of Judy Garland, Betty Grable, and Doris Day films. These movies motivated her to get serious about tap dancing and singing, and most of her after school hours were dedicated to lessons and practicing. Developing her talents turned her into a bonafide "Theatre Geek," and she graced her high school stage with pride and excitement! After high-school she left her family in Colorado and moved to Southern California to pursue her life-long love of acting. She attended University of CA, Irvine where she studied acting and musical theatre. It was there that she began doing improv and sketch comedy. Within 3 years she graduated and headed up to LA to start a TV/Film career.Once in LA, she began to perform at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UCB), mainly in their musical shows, specifically Matt Besser's show "The Freak Dance." "Freak Dance" has since become an indie feature film. She also wrote/produced her own web series "Hollywood Taffy." Once she became more seasoned she began appearing on TV in several Guest Starring roles. She is still performing at UCB and grateful to be living her dreams in LA.Host: Anne JohnstonbrownGuest: Megan HeynWebsite: Megan Heyn :: HomeIMDb: Megan Heyn - IMDb

I’m not going to pretend to be a master at settings or lighting, but I have a knack for composition and finding beauty within the chafe. Some of my best photos either took no effort or took hours to pull out of shots that others would have deleted. We often take for granted what is in front of us and can easily see, but if we turn around, we realize the beauty that we missed. @HeroHeads talks Game of Thrones; an American fantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels, the first of which is titled A Game of Thrones. Filmed in a Belfast studio and on location elsewhere in Northern Ireland, Malta, Scotland, Croatia, Iceland and Morocco, it premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011. Two days after the fourth season premiered in April 2014, HBO renewed Game of Thrones for a fifth and sixth season.[4]The series, set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer, interweaves several plot lines. The first follows the members of several noble houses in a civil war for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms; the second covers the rising threat of the impending winter and the mythical creatures of the North; the third chronicles the attempts of the exiled last scion of the realm's deposed dynasty to reclaim the throne. Through its morally ambiguous characters, the series explores the issues of social hierarchy, religion, loyalty, corruption, civil war, crime, and punishment.[5]Game of Thrones has attracted record numbers of viewers on HBO and obtained an exceptionally broad and active international fan base. It received widespread acclaim by critics, although its frequent use of nudity, violence and sexual violence has attracted criticism. The series has won numerous awards and nominations, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series in all three seasons, a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series – Drama, a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in both Long Form and Short Form, and a Peabody Award. Among the ensemble cast, Peter Dinklage won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film for his role as Tyrion Lannister.--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/southarcadia/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/southarcadia/support
