Elizabeth Keen of Indian Line Farm in Western Massachusetts, has been farming for 27 years and began her farm with her husband on land that was the birthplace of the CSA model popularized by Robyn Van En in 1986. Stewarding this important property, Elizabeth started her CSA with 12 member shares in 1997, which has since grown to 250 members, plus sales at a farmer's market and some restaurants and stores, all from five acres of production. The farm is certified naturally grown, and Elizabeth is an active member of CRAFT, the Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training Program, which trains future farmers. The farm has three high-tunnels--she uses no heat in winter--and focuses on producing chard, kale, spinach, lettuce, scallions, radicchio, and cilantro as fresh winter crops. The farm is financially stable and viable, and Elizabeth has been the full-time grower since 2003, deriving all her income from the farm. Not only is Elizabeth a seasoned farmer with a successful CSA model and story, she is also a farmer who prioritizes community, family, self-care, and a healthy work-life balance as an inspiring example for others to follow.  Elizabeth Keen and her husband Al have been farming at Indian Line Farm in Great Barrington, MA for over 25 years. After taking a sabbatical in 2016, they had the realization that after 10-15 years “just running the farm” it was time that some things needed to change to make the farm more sustainable in their next phase of life. The upgrades to the farm included the purchase of a delivery van, a 30'x96' hoop house, and replacing the 6-wire high tensile electric fence with an 8' fence to keep the deer out. Additionally, Elizabeth decided it was time to make some improvements to the post-harvest area on the farm.  This podcast gives a tour of the barn upgrades and the conversation is mostly led by my colleague Chris Callahan of the University of Vermont Extension. Guided by respected journalistic standards, the principle of fairness, the quest for truth, a commitment to social, economic and environmental justice, and an abiding admiration for the independent spirit of the Berkshires, The Berkshire Edge offers in-depth local news reports and features, perspectives on the arts, wide-ranging commentary, and a comprehensive calendar of events – all written, illustrated, and, in some cases performed, with wit, intelligence, insight and humor. Here are a few stories from the Edge this week: 1. The process for merging the South Berkshire County school districts is moving ahead. The merger planning board has hired a transportation conclutant to fisgure out the logistics of getting kids to the enlarged district schools: 2. Finally, on a cheerful note, downtown Great Barrington on Friday night, and Saturday afternoon and evening, will feature “busking” to enliven the visiting experience: And by the way, if you want to find out what's happening in the Berkshires, at the region's theaters and concert halls, as well as on its stages, check out the Berkshire Edge calendar where you can also purchase tickets. 3. We have a vigorous agricultural community in the Berkshires, and two local farmers, Elizabeth Keen and Alexander Thorp, are raffling off tickets for a far-to-table dinner on July 30… with proceeds going to the Harry Conklin Fund for Farmsteads.. Conklin was a beloved attorney in Great Barrington: 4. The contest for the post of Berkshire County High Sheriff is usually one of little notice… but not this time. There's bitter dispute between candidate Alf Barbalunga and Sheriff Tom Bowler: 5. And finally, we have a story about Greenagers, what we have designated as the “premier youth environmental organization in the region.” They build gardens for people, repair woodland trails, engage in sustainable farming. and partner with local institutions on all sorts of projects:

This episode is about my top tv shows. It was very hard to choose the tv shows because I have too many that I really enjoy watching over and over. Here are them: #10 Heroes Ordinary people around the world discover they have super powers. Their lives intertwine as they work together to prevent a catastrophic future. #9 Fringe FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham is assigned to the bureau's Fringe Division, in which she investigates unusual crimes and occurrences. Assisting Olivia in her investigations are once-institutionalised scientist Dr Walter Bishop, his jack-of-all-trades son, Peter, and FBI Junior Agent Astrid Farnsworth. #8 Chuck Computer geek Chuck Bartowski opens an e-mail that has been encoded, subliminally, with vital government secrets, triggering a massive download of critical information to his brain. With assassins and international terrorists eager to nab Chuck's noggin, it falls to Maj. John Casey and his partner, CIA agent Sarah Walker, to protect the government's newest and most-unlikely secret agent. #7 House At fictional Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey, prickly genius Dr. Gregory House tackles health mysteries as would a medical Sherlock Holmes, all the while playing mind games with colleagues that include his best friend, oncologist James Wilson. House, an acerbic infectious disease specialist, solves medical puzzles with the help of a team of young diagnosticians. #6 CSI: Miami A Florida team of forensics investigators uses cutting-edge scientific methods and old-fashioned police work to solve crimes. Horatio Caine, a former homicide detective, heads a group of investigators who work crimes amid the steamy tropical surroundings and cultural crossroads of Miami. #5 The Blacklist For decades, ex-government agent Raymond "Red" Reddington has been one of the globe's most wanted fugitives. But then he agreed to work with the FBI to catch his "blacklist" of mobsters, spies and international terrorists -- on the condition that he must work with profiler Elizabeth Keen. Red's true intentions -- choosing Liz, a woman with whom he seemingly has no connection -- are unclear. Does Liz have secrets of her own? Red promises to teach Liz to think like a criminal "to see the bigger picture," whether she wants to or not. #4 The Big Bang Theory Mensa-fied best friends and roommates Leonard and Sheldon, physicists who work at the California Institute of Technology, may be able to tell everybody more than they want to know about quantum physics, but getting through most basic social situations, especially ones involving women, totally baffles them. How lucky, then, that babe-alicious waitress/aspiring actress Penny moves in next door. Frequently seen hanging out with Leonard and Sheldon are friends and fellow Caltech scientists Wolowitz and Koothrappali. Will worlds collide? Does Einstein theorize in the woods? #3 The Punisher After exacting revenge on the people responsible for the deaths of his wife and children, Frank Castle uncovers a conspiracy that runs deeper than New York's criminal underworld. Now known as the Punisher, he must dig deep into the conspiracy to discover the truth about injustices that affect more than just him and his family. Assisting the vigilante in his quest to fight criminals are best friend Billy Russo, who runs private military corporation Anvil, and former NSA analyst Micro, who shares common enemies with Castle and helps him as part of a so-called marriage of convenience. #2 Daredevil The first in a planned series of shows detailing the Marvel universe, "Daredevil" follows Matt Murdock, attorney by day and vigilante by night. Blinded in an accident as a child, Murdock uses his heightened senses as Daredevil to fight crime on the streets of New York after the sun goes down. While Murdock's day job requires him to believe in the criminal justice system, his alter ego does not follow suit, leading him to take the law into his own hands to protect his Hell's Kitchen neighborhood and the surrounding communities. #1 Arrow When presumed-dead billionaire playboy Oliver Queen returns home to Starling City after five years stranded on a remote island in the Pacific, he hides the changes the experience had on him, while secretly seeking reconciliation with his ex, Laurel. By day he picks up where he left off, playing the carefree philanderer he used to be, but at night he dons the alter ego of Arrow and works to right the wrongs of his family and restore the city to its former glory. Complicating his mission is Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, who is determined to put the vigilante behind bars. The Flash At 11, Barry Allen's life changed completely when his mother died in a freak accident and his innocent father was convicted of her murder. Orphaned Barry later becomes Detective Joe West. Now a crime-scene investigator, his dedication to learn the truth about his mother's death drives him to follow up on every new scientific advancement and urban legend. When his latest obsession - a particle accelerator heralded as a world-changing invention - causes an explosion, it creates a freak storm and Barry is struck by lightning. He awakes from a coma nine months later with the power of superspeed. When he learns that others who have gained powers use them for evil, he dedicates himself to protecting the innocent, while still trying to solve the older mystery.   Honory Mentions Weed Supernatural Battlestar Galactica Silicon Valley TrueBlood Game of Thrones Luke Cage

She enjoyed Tennessee lilies, birdwatching and the occasional musical.  One day she met a man, a sweet caring man, who took her out for wine and chocolates before standing her up at the movies.  Anne is a forgiving person, a caring person, and she forgave this man and he has been visiting her off and on ever since. But this is no ordinary man.  This is Raymond Reddington who is currently being hunted down by Neville Townsend. On Red's fifth visit to Anne to play some bridge with her friends Lois and Bran, Red is discovered and tracked ultimately leading to showdown at the local police department.  Don't worry about Red though, Anne's wrath is worse than any time in jail.  But even though they are able to escape Townsend, Red can't escape Lois. Case Profile for Elizabeth Keen Elizabeth Keen has lost her father, her grandfather, her husband, and according to Liz her mother all because of one man, RED. What started out as a list to catch the worst of the worst Elizabeth has found herself to be enemy numero uno at the very top of The Blacklist.  As Liz looks to escape into hiding to plan her next move against her on again off again crime fighting partner, she looks to take down Red’s empire from the inside.  See Liz has a list of her own and she is doing everything she can to get these big names to flip.  Names like Brimely, Chuck, Morgan, Rutteger, Hede, even Marvin Gerard yes all of them are targets   But remember Red’s cardinal rule, value Loyalty above all else.  Every single attempt Liz makes this week to try and get one of the Syndicate to flip fails at every turn including even the man that went to prison for Red. Luckily there is a new man on the payroll in Skip Hadley and he knows how to play the long game for now.  With Liz finally thinking like a criminal she convinces skip to flip and as a result steals $41M US from Red, scoops up her daughter and flies away to fight another day. Of course not before she hooks up with Ressler for a one night stand.  Be sure to answer our profiling question of the week: What is on the flash drive from the archive? Visit our feedback page to leave a response or call +1 (304) 837-2278. A few wires, a radio transmission device, 16 ounces of semtex and one finger is all it takes to finally take down Reddington, or is it?  Support the Show! Be sure to #FillTheFedora on Patreon. Case Profile for 16 Ounces A pound of flesh, and eye for an eye, Revenge isn’t a passion as Reddington once said, it is a disease and right now Liz is the one who is sick.  In this week’s non numbered Episode "16 Ounces", we pick up right after the death of the woman claiming to be Katarina Rostova. Except the crime scene is clean and Red and Liz are nowhere to be found.  Liz begins her revenge quest by turning in her badge and then systematically saying goodbye to each member of the task force while at the same time using them for her personal gain.  She is able to steal 16 ounces of semtex to build a bomb to kill Reddington once and for all for taking her “mother” away.   Liz’s PI is now in deep with Liz since she was the one that planted the bomb that ultimately failed.  That failure, that revenge disease almost cost Liz the one person she holds most dear, and certainly destroyed any friendship she may have with Aram in the future. Thankfully Cooper and Reddington, Liz’s two father figures in her life, still want to save her from this dark path by making her the top of The Blacklist.  How will things pan out? Tune in next week.  Be sure to answer our profiling question of the week: Was Liz right, will Red ever kill Elizabeth Keen? Visit our feedback page to leave a response or call +1 (304) 837-2278. 16 Ounces in Pictures Here are a just a few of our favorite scenes from this week. Liz's Lectures Welcome to Liz’s Lectures that part of the show where we relive some of those arguments or threats from Liz that may or may not turn into greater storylines in the future.   Then each week you can vote for your favorite here. This week our first story comes when Liz confronts Cooper. Our second comes when Liz confronts Red.  Which was your favorite? If you want to finally take care of things yourself vote #LizMan or if you have what it takes to finish the job vote #LizDrive. The Music for 16 Ounces Dave’s backing tracks were the big focus this week and then we get to revisit “Martha’s Dream” by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis from The Proposition Soundtrack once again as Liz and Red confront each other outside Dom's house.   You can hear these songs via the official Blacklist playlist on Spotify or the same playlist recreated by us on Apple Music.  Keep Connected Each week of The Blacklist Exposed will take a deep look at both the minor and major plot lines to this fantastic series. That is certainly true for a group of friends from Boston who bonded under unexpected circumstances. Some have achieved success, others are struggling in their careers and relationships, but all of them feel stuck in life. After one of them dies unexpectedly, it's just the wake-up call the others need to finally start living. Amidst doting moms, successful husbands, beautiful children, and stunning homes exists a community fueled by rumors and divided into haves and have-nots, exposing fractured relationships between husbands and wives, parents and children, and friends and neighbors. Told through the eyes of three mothers -- Madeline, Celeste and Jane -- the series' narrative explores society's myths regarding perfection and its romanticization of marriage, sex, parenting and friendship. Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley star as the three prominent "mothers of Monterey." | HBO, HBO MaxThe Outer Banks - The Outer Banks are barrier islands off the coast of the U.S. state of North Carolina, separating the Atlantic Ocean from the mainland. Their open-sea beaches, state parks and shipwreck diving sites make them a popular holiday destination. Roanoke Island was the site of England's first settlement in the New World, an endeavor sponsored by Sir Walter Raleigh. | NetflixThe Blacklist - For decades, ex-government agent Raymond "Red" Reddington has been one of the globe's most wanted fugitives. But then he agreed to work with the FBI to catch his "blacklist" of mobsters, spies and international terrorists -- on the condition that he must work with profiler Elizabeth Keen. Red promises to teach Liz to think like a criminal "to see the bigger picture," whether she wants to or not. | NBC#scriptureoftheday - 2 Samuel 7:14-15: I will be a father to him, and he'll be a son to me. His biggest problem isn't the enemy, though, it's his own army that keeps increasing the number of missions soldiers must fly in order to complete their service. And if Yossarian tries to make an attempt to avoid his assignments, he will be in violation of catch-22, a bureaucratic rule that states a man is considered insane if he willing continues to fly dangerous missions, but a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity and makes him ineligible to be relieved of his duty. Whether she's struggling to keep her daughters close or trying to push one of them out of the nest, Sam approaches every challenge with fierce love, raw honesty, and humour. At the end of the day, Sam's just trying to earn a living, navigate her daughters' changing lives, survive her family, have fun with a friend or two, and also -- just maybe -- squeeze in some private time.Barry (HBO)Disillusioned at the thought of taking down another "mark," depressed, low-level hit man Barry Berkman seeks a way out. He follows his target into acting class and ends up instantly drawn to the community of eager hopefuls, especially dedicated student Sally, who becomes the object of his affection. Grey’s Anatomy (s14 returns 1/18, 9, 24 total, 8p, ABC)The medical drama series focuses on a group of doctors at a hospital in Seattle, including several who began their careers at the facility as interns. One of the doctors and the show's namesake, Meredith Grey, is the daughter of a famous surgeon. She struggles to maintain relationships with her colleagues, particularly the hospital's one-time chief of surgery, Richard Webber, due to a pre-existing relationship between them -- Webber and Meredith's mother had a personal relationship when Meredith was young. Scandal(s7 returns 1/18, 8, 18 total, 9p, ABC; final season)"Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes is the creative mind behind this ABC drama. Olivia Pope, a former media consultant to the president, is ready to move on with her life and opens her own crisis-management firm, but she can't seem to shake ties with her past. Olivia's staff includes Quinn Perkins, who has a complicated history, and hacker extraordinaire Huck. As she moves forward it becomes clear that, while her staffers may specialize in cleaning up the lives of other people, they can't seem to do the same for themselves. The Blacklist(s5 returns 1/3, 9, 22 total?, 8p, NBC)For decades, ex-government agent Raymond "Red" Reddington has been one of the globe's most wanted fugitives. This Is Us (s2 returns 1/2, 11, 18 total, 9p, NBC)The Pearson family's generational story unfolds in this emotional drama. In moments of love, joy, triumph and heartbreak, revelations emerge from parents Jack and Rebecca's past, while triplets Kate, Randall and Kevin discover deeper meaning in their present day lives. Successful businessman and father Randall searches for information about his biological parents. Kate finds love and self-acceptance while battling obesity. Kevin pursues a more meaningful career, which brings some difficult choices. The Flash(returns 1/16; s4, 10, 23 total?, 8p, CW)At 11, Barry Allen's life changed completely when his mother died in a freak accident and his innocent father was convicted of her murder. Now a crime-scene investigator, his dedication to learn the truth about his mother's death drives him to follow up on every new scientific advancement and urban legend. When his latest obsession -- a particle accelerator heralded as a world-changing invention -- causes an explosion, it creates a freak storm and Barry is struck by lightning. He awakes from a coma nine months later with the power of superspeed. When he learns that others who have gained powers use them for evil, he dedicates himself to protecting the innocent, while still trying to solve the older mystery. DC's Legends of Tomorrow(returns 2/12; s3, 10, 17 total?, 9p, CW)"Arrow" and "The Flash" have some new superhero company in the CW's lineup with the addition of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow." After seeing what doom the future holds, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter realizes heroes alone are not enough to prevent the impending catastrophe that threatens not only the planet, but all of time itself. Tasked with recruiting both heroes and villains, Rip brings together a ragtag team of divergent talents, which includes the likes of Sara Lance, Ray Palmer, and Heat Wave. The Walking Dead (s8 returns in February, 9, 16 total; final 8 episodes in 2018; 9p, AMC)Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, this gritty drama portrays life in the weeks and months following a zombie apocalypse. Led by police officer Rick Grimes, his family and a group of other survivors find themselves constantly on the move in search of a safe and secure home. But the pressure each day to stay alive sends many in the group to the deepest depths of human cruelty, and Rick discovers that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be more deadly than the zombies walking among them. Season Finales: Outlander(s3, 13, 13 total, 8p, Starz)After serving as a British Army nurse in World War II, Claire Randall is enjoying a second honeymoon in Scotland with husband Frank, an MI6 officer looking forward to a new career as an Oxford historian. To survive, she marries Jamie Fraser, a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor. A passionate relationship ensues, and Claire is caught between two vastly different men in two inharmonious lives. "Outlander" is adapted from the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon. The Fall TV season has picked up, and "The Critic" and "The Referee" are back to let you know what’s happening in TV land.Premiered Sunday, 8/6:Ray Donovan (s5, Showtime)Ray Donovan is a "fixer" for Hollywood's elite. He is the go-to guy that the city's celebrities, athletes and business moguls call to make their problems disappear. It's a much more lucrative job than his previous work as a ruthless South Boston thug, vaulting him within reach of the truly wealthy and powerful. But no amount of money or the expensive things it can buy can completely mask Ray's past, a past that continues to haunt him with troubled brothers always calling and his father's recent release from 20 years spent in prison. Now a free man, Ray's father, Mickey, arrives in Los Angeles to get what he feels is rightfully his. Mickey's desire to reconnect and settle old scores with his family -- including Ray's wife and kids, who have never met the family's patriarch and are anxious to get to know him -- threatens to destroy everything Ray has built for himself Premiered Sunday, 9/10:The Deuce (s1, HBO)Created by George Pelecanos and David Simon, who also collaborated on HBO's "The Wire" and "Treme," the semifictional drama series "The Deuce" tells of the germination of the sex-trade industry in the heart of New York's Times Square. It's the early 1970s, and the porn business begins a shift from organized crime-backed parlors to a legitimate, culturally accepted enterprise. A cast of barkeeps, prostitutes, pimps, police and nightlife seekers centers around twins Vincent and Frankie Martino (James Franco, in a dual role), who navigate the sex business after meeting well-connected mobster Rudy Pipilo. Their storyline, among others, merges with that of prostitute Candy, whose ambition and intelligence lead her to a more prominent role in the industry. Premiered Thursday, 9/14:Better Things (s2, FX)Sam Fox is an actress, who is also a single mother raising three daughters -- teenager Max, eccentric middle child Frankie, and spicy youngest daughter Duke -- in Los Angeles. She also helps to care for her mother, Phil, who lives across the street. In addition to looking after her family, Sam tries to earn a living in the difficult acting industry while having time to have fun with friends and, occasionally, get in some private time with potential mates. In addition to starring as Sam, Emmy winner Pamela Adlon is a co-creator of the comedy series, along with former "Lucky Louie" co-star Louis C.K. Premiered Sunday, 9/17:Vice Principals (s2, final season, HBO)"Eastbound & Down" creators Danny McBride and Jody Hill team again for a dark comedy series -- no surprise there! -- that may place high school administrators in a wholly different light. McBride and Walton Goggins co-star as vice principals at North Jackson High School, which becomes ground zero for a major power struggle when the principal retires. The rival administrators set their sights on the vacated top spot -- only to see English teacher Dr. Belinda Brown enter the picture. Putting their mutual hate aside, the bitter antagonists form an unholy alliance to bring down the outsider by any means necessary. Premiered Monday, 9/25:Me, Myself & I (s1, CBS)As a 14-year-old boy in 1991, Alex Riley and his mom move from Chicago to Los Angeles when she remarries. In present day, 40-year-old Alex's life has hit both a personal and professional standstill. In 2042, at 65, Alex has a realization that to be truly happy, he has to step away from his successful company and get back to his passion... inventing. "Me, Myself & I" follows him through each of these pivotal periods, revealing where the past informs the future, and the moments where he learns that his story isn't defined by what happens to him, but by how he decides to deal with it. Premiered Monday, 9/25:The Good Doctor (s1, ABC)Shaun Murphy, a young autistic surgeon who has savant syndrome, relocates from a quiet country life to join the surgical unit at the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital -- a move strongly supported by his mentor, Dr. Aaron Glassman. Having survived a troubled childhood, Shaun is alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, but he finds his niche using his extraordinary medical skill and intuition to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues. Red promises to teach Liz to think like a criminal "to see the bigger picture," whether she wants to or not. Premiered Wednesday, 9/27:SEAL Team (s1, CBS)Failure isn't an option for the new Navy SEALs, and that kind of pressure can take a toll on the members of the special operations forces' most elite unit. This team -- which includes Jason, the group's intense leader, and Ray, Jason's longtime confidant, along with loyal soldier Sonny and SEAL hopeful Clay -- trains, plans and executes some of the most dangerous, high-stakes missions and deploys for clandestine missions around the globe at a moment's notice. While serving their country is a worthy and rewarding cause, it can put a strain on the SEALs and their families, causing the guys look out for one another in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds, both on and off the job. Jon Bokenkamp (@jonbokenkamp) wanted to be a screenwriter. So, he decided it was his job. He sat at his desk from nine to five every day, writing frantically, and each night he went to another job. One that paid him. He waited tables. After three years, he sold his first screenplay. Then he sold some others here and there. Then the phone stopped ringing. After one failed script, he was contractually obligated to write one more. That script became The Blacklist (Netflix). It's a thriller on NBC starring James Spader. They're starting their fifth season this week. Spader plays Reddington, a veteran, private-jet-setting criminal who acts as an informant to the FBI, and who has a puzzling interest in agent Elizabeth Keen, played by Megan Boone. In this conversation, we're going to learn: What was the mindset that Jon put himself in to make it through the three-year project of writing his first screenplay? How does Jon ward off his distractibility, and channel it into his writing method? I think it's a great lesson in how in creative work, the final product is totally different from the process used to get there. How has Jon's writing process changed now that he has a whole team, and basically has to write a movie a week? Jon is a Nebraska-native like me. Hopefully you won't mind listening to us reminisce a little about that strange place in the beginning. If not, skip ahead, and you'll hear some really great stuff on doing tough and long creative projects.
