What is the most important lesson to teach your kids this summer? In this episode of the Crazy Cool Family podcast, we're wrapping up summer with the most essential parenting topic: leading your kids to Jesus. Whether your children are toddlers or teens, creating a family culture where God conversations happen naturally is one of the most powerful tools you have. Don and Suzanne walk through how to talk about faith with kids at different stages: Littles (ages 0–6), Middles (elementary age), and Bigs (middle and high school). They emphasize that helping your children follow Jesus isn't about doing more—it's about being intentional with the everyday moments. From thanking God for the sunshine to sharing how you handle frustration at work, your children learn what a real relationship with Jesus looks like by watching you live it. They also offer practical encouragement for parents who feel unsure, are new in their faith, or have kids pushing away from God. Real stories, relatable struggles, and timeless truth make this episode a must-listen.

Welcome to a brand new episode of the You Can Call Me “Bossy" podcast. Today, I sit down with my friend and fellow self-proclaimed data and marketing nerd Emily Kim. Emily is a business strategist and coach for photographers and creative entrepreneurs, and she brings her unique perspective as a former software engineer turned brand photographer. In this conversation, Emily shares her journey from navigating the cutthroat world of tech—where being “bossy” and “too much” were often labels used to diminish her—to carving out her own path as an entrepreneur and educator. Emily gets real about the frustrations of corporate bureaucracy, the internal challenges of “too muchness,” and the process of reconnecting with her creativity and intuition. Emily also opens up about the messy middle of evolving your career, the pressure of timelines, learning to trust the process, and how she honed her unique voice as a leader in her industry—despite fear of judgment from others. Whether you're thinking about making a similar leap or just want a refreshing dose of real talk about entrepreneurship, creativity, and personal growth, you're going to love this thoughtful and honest episode. Key Takeaways: Alignment with the framework: shifting from “do to have” to “be to do to have” Not being tied to one specific self-help tool, but maintaining general self-awareness The importance of trying new things and giving habits/strategies enough time Key Timestamps [6:00] – Embracing 'Too Muchness [15:50] – Be, Then Do, For Success [26:47] – Overcoming Imposter Syndrome [36:03] – Challenging Traditional Success Norms [42:13] – "Consistent Journaling Benefits" Episode Quote "So then you have to go into this internal battle of shame almost, because you're like, I should be grateful for being here. Episode 278: Quick Chat - Beginnings, Middles and EndsWelcome to the LYS Podcast. These quick chats are written around an idea that stands out to me that I want to chat with you about. Something that we can discuss in under 15 minutes that will hopefully be as interesting to you as it was to me.Todays is about how our lives are not one big story, they are made up of a bunch of smaller stories - lots of beginnings, middles, and ends. And I especially want to talk a little about the messy middles.Tune into the audio for this quick chat that I hope will give a little reprieve if you're stuck in a messy middle, some hope if you're at the end of something you didn't want to end, and maybe some excitement at what new beginnings may be around the corner. This week I read an email from Mary Alice Arthur, a story practitioner that I had on the show on episode 217 where we talked about “What is the most important story in the world.” Her email really hit home with me and I wanted to share it with you.Today we're talking about how we like to think of life as one big story, but in reality life is made up of a bunch of shorter stories - There are new beginnings, new adventures, new experiences, new starts. And there are other stories in our lives that are ending - the end of a project, the end of a job or a relationship, the death of someone or something. But the part I want to talk most about is the MESSY MIDDLE. The messy middle strikes me right now because it's such an uncomfortable place where we often don't know what is going to happen next. How will we find our way through? There is a lot of unknown. One of the ways you can tell you're in the Messy Middle, Mary Alice says, is that things don't make sense any more. What you used to do isn't working. Things feel out of control. This was comforting to me to acknowledge that confusion may be part of the process of living because I must be in the messy middle of a lot of things. Menopause is upon me and the “me” I used to know is no longer the “me” that is here. My body is weaker, my skin is less resilient, my energy and drive have abandoned me. I've been really struggling with not recognizing who I am. Really struggling. So when I read her ideas on the middle, I thought, “Oh, I'm in the messy middle. I don't know how this is going to turn out because I don't have it figured out yet. I haven't figured out hormone adjustments. I haven't come to grips with a slower self. I haven't relaxed into acceptance yet. Perhaps it's not the end of the world as I know it, it's just the messy middle.”I'm also at a loss as how to deal with my adult children who are struggling with depression and existential crisis. Nothing I do helps them. I'm at a complete loss and it's painful. I must be in the messy middle. We're looking at a variety of financial investments. The pieces aren't coming together as fast as I'd like. It's dragging on. I guess we're in the messy middle.Mary Alice asks the question: What do you do when you're in the messy middle? She suggests that sometimes the best thing to do is simply make a move. Get your hands dirty. I think this is great advice. I probably like it so much because it gives us power. I have a number of thought quotes at my desk. They say things like: “Yes…and” This saying reminds me that when something happens the best move is simply to acknowledge it and then decide the next best move. The next sticky note thought on my desk says, “Get curious about new ways of doing things.” The next one says, “Follow your intuition.”The pattern here is that all these reminders are about taking action. We won't get any where - we'll stay exactly where we are if we don't push on the gas. So push on the gas and steer as corners come up, but just sitting...

There's more to middle children than being the overlooked, overshadowed kid who gets lost in the shuffle. Middles do find ways to distinguish themselves from other siblings. They're sociable, adaptable, and very loyal friends. As a middle child, how might you react as a parent, or a spouse? Knowing these tendencies about yourself or your chlid can be enlightening and helpful!

Do you want respect from your kids? We valued this in our home, but what did it look like? Does respect equate to obedience? Talking in the correct tone and verbiage? If you want your kids to “Respect” you, there are a few things you need to consider investing in. In today's episode we are going to discuss the battle for respect within a home. It looks different for every child at every age. If respect is a constant battle in your home, then this episode is for you! Let's jump in! Things to unpack: What is your definition of respect? How did this play out in your home when you had small kids? Get on their eye level and use your words to direct them. Show them respect when changing activities, treat them older than they are- like people not like lesser than. Middle aged? Give them more responsibilities and opportunities to be given respect And now older kids? As a parent you are building respect in the younger years for this season! Now is the time to talk with respect to your child. Use questions, conversation, mistakes to grow respect. What is at the heart of respect? To like and value someone . What is it about for the small, middle-aged, and older kid? How do we find the root issue? (these are good but we did not address this... remember for another time) How did you correct your kids when they “disrespected” you? Point it out- call it disrespect, and above all else be an example of respecting them first! Verses: Proverbs 23:22 - Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Proverbs 1:8-9 - Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. (9) They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. Exodus 20:12 - Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Conclusion: What are 1-2 ways parents can cultivate mutual respectfulness in their homes? What do they do if they feel like it's hopeless and their kids can't unlearn their behaviors? Clear the slate: Ask for forgiveness Pay attention to your tone & facial expressions Have a conversation to define respect and the desire for it in your relationships Podcast Resources: Join the 5 Day Family Challenge Visit the CCF Store Follow us on Instagram

We are back with the Littles, Middles, and Bigs conversation and the topic we are breaking down is – waiting! There are so many scriptures that help us show our kids God's way to wait. If your child struggles with patience or waiting well – then start by reading through these scriptures to equip yourself with TRUTH to teach your kids from. Ephesians 4:32 Psalm 21:14 Isaiah 40:31 Psalm 37:7 Galatians 6:9 “Waiting with God is a good thing and teaching our kids to wait is essential.” - Suz How do you teach your Littles, Middles, and Bigs to wait? Here are a few practical tips for each age group. Check them out and apply them to your kids Littles: Share the plan and remind them why we are waiting/how long we need to wait Recognize the battle of wills and don't allow it to generate anger Give them something practical to do while they wait Middles: Realize it's more about emotional and spiritual maturity How we can come alongside them and expose them to the things of the world The goal is to be informed not permissive when it comes to things of the world Reminding your child that you are for them Bigs: Realize they want to do things they are not physically ready to do Teach waiting by showing how you value them + a relationship with them Don't wait too long to be done waiting No matter what season your children are in, waiting is part of their everyday life. As parents, when we learn how to steward the “waiting seasons” well, we build strong relationships with our kids. So, go parents and practice waiting well with your kids! When done well, it will help your kids mature physically, emotionally, and spiritually! “On the other side of waiting is goodness.” - Suz Podcast Resources: Sign up for the 3 Week Cohort on Effective Correction Join the 5 Day Family Challenge Visit the CCF Store Follow us on Instagram

Did you lie as a kid? We did! Do your kids lie? Ours did! We are taking a "hot parenting" topic and breaking it down for littles, middles, and bigs. Today's topic is Stopping Lying and Building Trust. Do you want to have honest kids? We hope so! Do you want your kids to trust you and share what is going on in their world? We do too! Don and Suz discuss so many valuable parenting tools in today's episode. If your kids are struggling with valuing the truth, this episode is for you! Here are a few things they discussed: What is the motivation for the lie? Kids don't feel safe Afraid parents will overreact Don't want to get in trouble/face the consequences so the lie is more favorable than the truth They want to be accepted by others or to protect others They don't feel good about themselves, so they lie about their achievements- stop this lie by speaking into their identity The main reason kid's lie is they want their parent's approval over whatever the thing is they are lying about. They want our approval more than they want the truth - isn't that wild? So what do we do as parents? We must make telling the truth valuable. We cannot get angry when our children lie or they will continue to lie. Our reaction directly determines the continues behavior of lying or not. How this applies to Littles, Middles, and Bigs: For ALL ages: Don't label your child a liar. Speak who they are and that's who they will be Littles lie to protect themselves and feel out boundaries Middles lie out of insecurity of self, world, don't know what to do, relationship with parents not open & safe Bigs lie because of trust in parents, world is telling them not to tell parents Final Thoughts: Building trust with each age group How to respond when you find out they are lying Know that deep down kids want to tell their parents all the things so it's our role to help them do that despite what the world says, how they feel, how we respond. We get to walk along beside them as they face the world Podcast Resources: Join the 5 Day Family Challenge Visit the CCF Store Follow us on Instagram

This week, we reckon with change and cosmic constants like the fact Charles Xavier is still a jerk in Excalibur #81, “Beginnings, Middles, and Endings,” in which Brittanic and Meggan rekindle their bonds, Kitty and Douglock forge new ones, and Charles and Moira cheat on their partners. (Maybe? It's complicated.) Joining us on this jolly journey through melodramatic tropes is comics scholar Bryan Bove, who's ready to forgive a romantic cliché or two and so are we, because some of us are loopy from end-of-term burnout and some of us were up all night reading Lucifer fanfiction.
We're back for season 2 and tackling the tough issues once again.
