In this episode the tables are turned on me. My friend and mentor Adam Harris of www.frankandfearless.com interviews me about the entrepreneurs journey and gathers a deep insight into the typical struggles, trials and tribulations of the day to day operations of the small business owner trying to have a massive impact on the world. You will relate to this one and gain perhaps many insights for your own career path be it as your own business team leader/director or as part of a business team. Values, missions, world impact goals, team building, taking on risk, stress and resilience these are just a few of the topics we cover in this interview. We talk about the importance of having a team and having the right bums on the right seats. Why the visionary in the business needs an integrator - a robin to their batman so to speak. If you want to do a deep dive into your own career path journey then listening to the struggles and triumphs of someone in the midst of it can be a helpful reflecting mirror for you and learning some of the strategies we can use to grow and succeed in any challenge we face. About Adam Harris Adam is the managing director, board and leadership team as well as aspiring leader who want to climb the corporate ladder. He help them his team achieve greater results, their businesses and themselves. How? By taking them from where they are to where they want to get to. Adam do that not by answering their questions, but by questioning their questions. By being Frank and Fearless. He ask tough questions and encourage clients to say what they really think. Create space to enable them to stop, pause and reflect. Out of that space comes clarity and real opportunities for growth. He also help clients do incredible things and understand that good and bad things happen. Life goes on regardless. For him, what matters is the perspective and how you react to the shit that happens to you. What you get out of life depends on how you navigate your way through it. Angela has always believed in empowering women to reach their full potential. She began her career as a journalist, following her passion for writing. She now concentrates her time to help couples through their struggles with infertility through surrogacy. Angela and her family live in a small community near Lake Huron, in Exeter, Ontario. She often describes her household as organized Chaos and writes her blog all about the inner worth of women and mindful parenting. “Musings of Organized Chaos” is relatable to any parent trying to find balance in their home and women who truly need to hear that they are not alone in this world. https://surrogacycommunity.ca/

Dave Lukas, The Misfit Entrepreneur_Breakthrough Entrepreneurship
This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Jason Pohl. Jason is a former wealth management entrepreneur turned professional athlete, specifically Ironman Racing. As many of you know, I race Ironmans and have a real love for the sport and what it takes just to finish one of these races. But, Jason takes it to a whole other level. He races internationally all over the world and has been featured everywhere from Running Magazine to Impact Magazine. He trains 7 days a week for 7-8 hours per day and has finished Top 5 in many Ironmans around the world, as well as qualifying for the world championships in Kona. Additionally, he coaches other athletes on training and nutritional programs. There are so many parallels between Ironman racing and entrepreneurship and I wanted to have Jason on to share his thoughts and what it was like to take the leap of faith and sell everything to pursue his dream. Instagram @jason.pohl www.Jason-Pohl.com Jason was an elite hockey player for 16 years into college. After school he was looking for the next challenge and got into triathlon. He thought because he was an elite hockey player, he would be good, but was quickly humbled by the sport and what it takes to really compete. 2014 was his first amateur season for Ironman at 22 years old. After his first Ironman, he found out that he qualified for the world championships in Kona, HI. He still didn’t know much about what he was doing. He raced Kona and ended up in the hospital because he didn’t understand nutrition and did not take care of his body during the race. It was in the hospital that he made the decision to go after it as a career. 2015 was his first year going toward pro and after 2 years, became a pro with 2017 as his first season. Tell us what it was like to make the leap and leave your business and become a pro… It is scary. You can’t serve two masters Jason was training 30+ hours a week and running his business It was a hard decision that took a lot of deep soul searching and brutal honesty. Ultimately, he had to go with what was truly aligned with his purpose and his heart which was racing. He sold off everything and took the leap. It’s been a year and things are starting to click with his sponsors, speaking, and racing. What advice would you give people that are in the position you were in to help them make their leap? Take time for a lot of reflection. Be completely honest with yourself which is hard to do. The opportunity lies in the toughness of being honest to your core. That is where breakthroughs happen. The hardest thing to do is to be really honest with yourself. Can you explain Ironman and what it takes for you to do what you do at your level? Ironman is the world’s most challenging single day endurance sports. It is a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, and then a full marathon. At the professional level is takes between 8-8.5 hours Jason trains for 35 hours a week and the has different therapies On top of that is the business with sponsors, marketing, etc. Its 70+ hours a week, 7 days a week. Tell us more about the business around being a professional athlete… A lot of it is on the performance side with prize money and bonuses. Then you have sponsors which is no different than client acquisitions and really pay for the travel and gear needed to compete. You treat sponsors as your price possession. They are your clients. It is not an easy road and no different than building a business – you try things, adjust, put processes in place, and never stop working on it. You must have a dream and a goal to push you. How do you get and hold onto sponsors? First, you have to get your mindset right. High energy, high passion, and knowing your why is very important. Be present when meeting with anyone you are trying to do business with – listen intently and really understand how you can help them succeed. Ultimately, it is a relationship and you both are impacting each other. How does training and competing in Ironman’s relate to business and entrepreneurship? It can be presented as very glamorous and glorious, but it is no different than building a business. It is hard work that you have to grind out. You have days where don’t have it and are tired and don’t want to train or get rejections from sponsors. With any success in life it boils down to the consistency and discipline. If you take a day off, your competitors are out working you and it will impact you in races – just like in the business world. You have to do the mundane things you don’t want to do every day. You have show up every day. At the 27-minute mark, Jason talks about persistence and his hardest time in Ironman… Get clear on your dream and real life and commitments, it is easier to persistent. This comes through in your business interactions as well. His hardest time was going into his second season as he came off a great first season. He got mano and when he was recovered, got into a bike crash, got a concussion, then had to drop out of the next race because wasn’t healed enough. Later in the season, he go into another bike crash. He ended up 3 races out of the top 10 with an unfinished race. He made very little money as he did not place and went through self-doubt. His coach helped him get through it. Talk to us about the power and importance of mindset and the mental game… It is everything. It is the difference between being world class and not. What you believe is a direct reflection in your outer life. It all comes down to your inner belief and mindset. The first thing to know is that you can define the feelings you have. For example, you can redefine anxiety as your power to be ready to go. You can change you mind in an instant. It is hard in a low energy state where negative thoughts creep in. But you can change it. You can use a phrase or something that changes your physiological state – a trigger. At the 39:30 mark, Jason talks about “anchors” Anchors are movements or power phrases Best Quote: “Get clear on your goals and commitments. When you get clear on why you are doing what you are doing, everything will fall into place as you connect into your purpose." Jason's Misfit 3: You are the author of your external life which is a direct reflection of your internal life. Enjoy the journey. Live your life backwards. Connect to your mortality. Reflect on the last day of your life and ask how you want to be remembered? Who do you need to become to be this person?

After receiving a lot of criticism and little to no support when launching her bakery, Elizabeth Ellison identified a gap when it came to supporting entrepreneurs in the community. In a world where technology and high growth ventures tend to dominate the conversation, Elizabeth wanted to create a better environment for traditionally overlooked entrepreneurs - food entrepreneurs. Through her Family’s Foundation, she’s created several programs to support all types of entrepreneurs in Tulsa. Most recently she celebrated the launch of Mother Road Market, Tulsa’s first food hall where she houses 21 food entrepreneurs. But for someone who’s ran the NY Marathon, climbed the Colorado 14er, hiked the Inca Trail and completed the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon for fun, just helping entrepreneurs is not enough. Following her passion for criminal justice and leveraging her vast network in San Francisco, she helped manufacture a strategic partnership between The Last Mile, the Chan Zuckerberg Foundation, other philanthropists and government agencies to create a better pathway for incarcerated women in Oklahoma by teaching them how to code. Elizabeth describes herself as a mom to two boys (three if you count her husband Chris), Personal Assistant to two dogs, a runner and a terrible tennis player. Join us as she shares her passion for entrepreneurs, the struggles she’s had to overcome, and how she makes commuting between San Francisco and Tulsa work.

Hey, Sheevaun Moran here and I have been thinking about you so much like I have to get this out and share this with you. So one of the things that can happen when you lived your life and then you become an entrepreneur is you see everybody else having all of these successes. That's super cool, but maybe you didn't start out two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight thinking that were going to have your own business and do your own thing and make your own stuff and make your own tent. You really thought you were going to get a job because that's what your groomed to get is a job and when your grooomed to get a job, that energy is going to play out. Even when you go into your entrepreneurship, self employed, own Gig, and the challenge that you face is those two things are crossing the wires in your brain. Safety and security, freedom, safety and security freedom. So the most important thing is every day you'd have to recommit to being your own boss, to being your own entrepreneur, to taking that next level, to see what you couldn't see before. So I have an opportunity in a couple of times a year to spend time with Richard Branson that's and catch up as to this things that he's up to and it really makes sure that I stay into what kind of vision I'm here to provide and how many souls I'm here to touch and light up. Not everybody is capable of staying in that continuous moving ahead zone. I wanted to be my own boss for most of my life, so I get it. Although I got sucked into the corporate, how is in that energy? And I had to peel that off and it took a while. But the core thing of all of this is you have to recommit every day. You have to learn how to share your heart. So people are invited into a yes, no what I'm saying. So you're going to be in the entrepreneur, you're going to have their own game. You have to stand. I came, you can't be like, well maybe I should get a job, burn the bridges, slam and nail the back door shut. That's just freaking. Go for it. Great. So that's my thought. That's been on my mind for all of you all because I think you'll be trying to figure out how to get to that next level. I want to be of that value and service for you so you can't so has the core to the old. Let's get into what we're here to do, bringing people in here programs and get them to say yes and stopped turning them off by looking for the back door and the worry and the fear and the safety and security. You are 100 percent. Say you're 100 percent taken care of. That is what creator put us here to do and be and live like they invite you to do that. Hey, this is Sean Moran off on a little rant. Thanks for listening. Share this. If you felt inspiring to you and on yet SheevaunMoran.Com. Yaro Starak is the founder of Entrepreneurs Journey. He is a globally recognized internet marketer and online business mentor and coach who started his online journey before being online was a thing. In this episode, Yaro shares how he launched his blog for fellow entrepreneurs, especially for people who are interested in following the online business model that he has leveraged to make over a million dollars. Yaro has developed a simple business model made up of the following three components: Start a Blog Grow An Email Newsletter Sell Your Own Digital Products Listen in to get all the juicy details from Yaro Starak in this episode. Download your free PDF show highlight reel for all the links and resources mentioned in the episode at https://www.businessgenerals.com/yaros (www.businessgenerals.com/yaros) Starting out in business When Yaro joined the University of Queensland to study business management, he got his first access to the internet and he was fascinated by the ease of access to information. He started playing a card game called “Magic: The Gathering” and became a great fan of it so much so that he built his first website dedicated to the game. The website was built using GeoCities (a free website building tool) and he built a strong following through articles written by himself and other card players. That turned into a real business because he created a card game store which did very well. He also put up banner ads on the site and used to make $500 to $1,000 during the best times. The business gave him great experience in basic internet marketing. Later on, while still in university, he started an essay editing business mainly targeted towards international students with English as a second language. His family would help as editors on the site and later on he hired other editors as contractors. It was Yaro’s first real “laptop lifestyle business” because it enabled him to travel while doing it. It was hands-off for him because he had contract essay editors and all he would need to do is the website marketing through SEO and putting up posters at university campuses. His job was sending emails between customers and the editors, then he would take a 50% profit margin for every job. Eventually when he got enough volume, he hired an administrative assistant to look after the email job. It was a great full-time business and he made enough money, so he didn't need to get a job after graduating. After graduating he focused on business and travelling to different global destinations. Eventually he sold the essay editing and card game business because he was no longer passionate about them. Blogging In 2004, Yaro learnt about blogging, so he started a blog and writing about business. Consequently, in January 2005, he registered http://www.entrepreneurs-journey.com/ (www.entrepreneurs-journey.com) purely as a hobby where he wrote 2 to 3 articles a week talking about running his card game and essay editing businesses. In the end, he sold off the card game and essay editing businesses to become a full-time blogger and information marketer. Period in full time business Yaro first made a full-time income in 2003 from his online essay editing business and has never looked back since. Utilizing his business degree Yaro says that he didn't use it a lot since he never got formally employed but he says going to study business enabled him to access the internet which developed his interest in online based business. Core revenue streams Right now Yaro only sells his own digital teaching products including a flagship course, membership site, and a range of lower priced products like ebooks and the interviews club. All these digital products are created by Yaro, and all sold from his blog and email list. He has a bit of affiliate income and other investments. He also has a...

Pinterest3 Facebook 0 Twitter 0 LinkedIn WhatsApp 3Shares If you are wondering as to what push notifications for WordPress is, then you have not been reading some of the top blogs in the industry. Because it is unlikely that you would have missed that notification on the top-middle of the blog as soon as you browse over to the blog. And these days, pretty much every blogger, rather I should say, website is implementing this. If you are still wondering as to what this is, then let me show something from a blog that I visit and read very frequently. That was Yaro Starak’s Entrepreneurs Journey. Do you see that small popup on top of the website, that is unobtrusive yet attention grabbing? That is an example of push notifications. You will see this being used by pretty much every blogger today. So what are these and why are business owners using these push notifications? In order for us to understand this, we will need to look at what happens after somebody clicks on that “YES” button you see in that popup. Here is an image of a sample notification. Just so that I brush up your memory, you would also have seen these notifications from Facebook, popping up at the bottom left corner of your computer. This is even if you do not have Facebook open on your computer. Now, that would have given you a fair idea of what these push notifications do and why is Facebook and a lot of the bloggers using them on their sites. Push Notifications for WordPress and Email Marketing These push notifications are a good way to stay in touch with your readers and blog visitors. In fact you can send all kind of information to your subscribers as a notification. And because of their unobtrusive nature and the fact that it cannot go unnoticed, it is a perfect replacement for Email Marketing for obvious reasons. Justin had four kids, and was in the middle of a move from a metropolitan city to a small mountain town when he quit his job, and started a business. How did he do it? In this show, I connected with a prominent maker of things, Justin Jackson just as he was getting ready to launch his new book, Jolt. Our conversation will be incredibly valuable to anyone who is considering starting a business, quitting their job, pursuing side projects, and making an independent income. You will hear: a step-by-step of how to start a business, struggles of work, life, and family balance, and how you should always jump on inspiration and not let it get away. One of my most interesting takeaways was to look at your office (maybe a home office?), the same way an artist would look at their art studio. This is your space to create value. You can find Justin at https://twitter.com/mijustin His latest marketing book, Jolt (I highly recommend it) can be found at: https://justinjackson.ca/jolt/ And if you happen to be a software developer, his Marketing for Developers course has already graduated hundreds: https://devmarketing.xyz/ — Thanks for listening! This episode is going to focus on how you you should focus on finding the D-list Super stars in your niche. These are the people who will have the inclination to help you. They too have something to prove, they're equally hungry and excited to work with other d-listers, they'll be more open to doing a mutually beneficial joint venture with you. They will be more willing to promote your product as an affiliate, write an article recommending you, interview you on their podcast. So many ways in which these kind folks can help you. And no, I'm not talking about doing a stupid email swap or an ad swap or a link swap. I'm talking about finding influencers who are ready and willing to help you, AND can make an impact on your business. But for this whole thing to work, here are the main ingredients you absolutely must have in place first. Let's say you are getting ready to launch a new online course about horse riding. Here's the new media way of finding your super star partners. #1) Let's start with the obvious: You must have a great product. Now I'm using the name "Product" to loosely refer to anything physical, or digital, or a service. So starting with a great product goes without saying. Whether you are launching a membership site, a Kindle book, a WordPress plugin, or a SaaS app - by the way, Saas - S A A S stands for software as a service. A lot of people put the cart before the horse, and forget that they need to first create something remarkable. I'm not saying you have to have this massive product all polished and completed. There's something to be said for launching a minimum viable product - or MVP. And the cool thing is, that with digital products, you can easily update it and add more to it over time, whether it is a kindle book - which you can easily update, and simply upload a new version with new chapters or edits of typos, you can keep adding content to your Kindle book with absolutely no hassle. With software, like a plugin, or a mobile App, or a Saas app, you can easily publish an update, a new "release", with new features and bug fixes. Even a product like the iPhone, can release updates to its operating system without having to touch the hardware. If you remember, people made a big deal about the original iphone saying it didn't have copy/paste functionality. One software update later, that feature was included. And Apple did not have to recall a single iphone in order to add that feature. So yes, the #1 thing is to start with a great product, even if it is a minium viable version. 2) Go to Facebook.com. Search for "horse riding group". Quickly join the top 5, do a quick scan, eliminate the ones that don't have much engagement, and ones that have too much spam and blatant promotion. Check if they allow new-member introductions. If they do, then make a post introducing yourself, give a quick elevator pitch about what you do, include a link back to your web site, and most importantly, say something like, "I'm excited to join this amazing group. I'm ready to contribute here and help others. I want to give more than I ask. So if you have any questions at all about horses and horse riding, then feel free to ask me below, or message me directly." See how that didn't sound like I'm quoting from my sales page or my resume? So just keep it classy, really low-key. I can't stress that enough. If at any time you feel that you might be doing something pushy or pitchy, then hold back. Don't worry about giving out too much content and wasting time. Trust me, you're better off wasting time by offering free content and helping others, than watching viral videos and looking at everybody else's life in pictures. It's about dang time you spent every spare minute you have building your own business. Once this is done, now start listening, reading, observering. Start answering questions from others who you think you can help. Contribute to discussions and arguments. Feel free to take sides, but don't belittle anyone or trash someone's view point. Just state in a very clear way why you're taking one side of the argument, without involving emotion or making it personal. You can still have strong opinions and express them without trashing someone else's opinions. Now comes absolutely, THE most important part: Every time someone engages with you, likes your content, responds to your posts, participates in a discussion thread along with you, add them as a friend. Don't go and start adding everyone in the group as a friend. That's key. Do it ONLY with someone who has engaged with you, or who you have engaged with, by commenting on their thread or answering their question or offering feedback. If you do this for even just a week in 2-3 different groups, you can easily make 30 to 50 new really good contacts. 3) Next, contact the group owners themselves, build a relationship with them. Offer them feedback about the group, not in patronizing way, but in a complimentary way. Offer them a free membership to your horse riding course. Tell them there's absolutely no obligation. They never have to pay for it. If they love it, and if they have the time, you would really appreciate it if they can give you a testimonial that you can proudly display on your web site, with their signature, mentioning their web site, or the Facebook Group URL, or whatever they want. So the positioning of this offer is important. You're not being pushy. You're saying, IF they love it, IF they have the time, IF they would be kind enough to give you a review, you will proudly display it on your page. #4) Go to the big content directories: iTunes, Youtube, LinkedIn. Find the top 10 people in each category who are providing a lot of value, creating great content, and are really cool to their audience. Contact them directly. You might not get much traction with the top few people, but that's ok. The goal here is to focus on the long-tail, the C and D-listers. Spend some time consuming their content. This is absolutely critical. If you shoot them an email right off the bat saying you want them to promote your product, you are almost never going to hear back from them. Instead, subscribe to those podcasts and youtube channels. Consume their content. Become a fan. Of course, if their content sucks, move on to the next person in the list. You don't have to listen to crappy shows. But the good ones? Listen, and become a fan. And find an interesting thing that you can say to them, that only a fan would say. For instance, I was a fan of Jon Nastor from Hack The Entrepreneur. And in one of his other shows, the Show Runner show, his co-host calls Jon Nastor the defender of humanity. So many months later, completely unrelated, when I was launching my own podcast, I wrote to Jon with the subject "O Defender of Humanity" and I wrote a really cool email to him, because I was a fan, and what I wrote was super genuine, and absolutely nothing pitchy or promotional. I built a relationship with him by exchanging a couple of emails, offering him some feedback, and finally, one day, I told him, oh, by the way, if you ever want to interview the coolest geek on the planet, then I would be super thrilled and honored to come on his show. I even referenced what I meant by me being the coolest geek on the planet. If you go to Google right now, and search for the keywords "coolest geek on the planet", you'll see that my web site shows up at the top. So I was a fan, I gave him feedback, I genuinely appreciated him, and actually communicated with him like a cool human being. He loved the idea, and I ended up as a guest on one of the hottest entrepreneur interview shows on iTunes. So yes, you have GOT to put some time into becoming a fan, and building a relationship with your potential partners. You've got to woo them. It goes back to the often used example in dating. You can't ask a girl to marry you on the first date. And in this day of social media, where it's super easy to reach out to someone, and equally easy to be a douchebag and piss someone off by being pitchy and pushy, it is very important that you understand how to approach super starts and future partners. Remember, nothing, and I mean NOTHING gets a person more excited than hearing from a genuine fan tell them how much they love their stuff. And if it is genuine, and true, they'll feel it, and you'll hit it off instantly. Think all of this is a bit too time consuming? Heck yeah, it is. In the beginning, you probably have more time than money. So go ahead and spend all of your time and effort on this. Stop watching Netflix for a month. No big deal. I know Gary Vaynerchuk is famous for his line "Stop watching effin "Lost". Sorry, Gary, I said that way before you did. I was telling this to my friends in 2000, back then, of course, I was telling them, Stop watching effin Friends! Because friends was the big & famous show back then. So yeah. People binge-eat, bing-watch Netflix, binge-play video games, we binge on every darn useless thing in this world. So the next time you're on Facebook, and you see an exciting article or a video, click on that little downward "V" icon next to that post, and save it for later. Trust me, this one tip alone will make you 5 times more productive on Facebook. So how about you spend the next 1 week binge-buildig relationships? How about you do binge-marketing? This topic will be continued in the next episode. Yaro Starak, one of the leading lifestyle entrepreneurs in the world, from Entrepreneurs-Journey.com, said this about my book at SubscribeMeBook.com: Ravi's book rams home a very important message: It's much smarter to get paid more than once for making one sale, and one of the best ways to do this online is to sell membership products. Read this book and your eyes will open to some incredible opportunities to make money online. So check out my book at SubscribeMeBook.com. It is a culmination of 18 years of my life making and marketing digital products, starting with selling a physical book back in 1998. Until the next time, don't forget to do some bingeing that will actually help you take your business to the next level. Cheers!

I've been thinking a little lately about how things have changed. Not in a bad way or anything.... just... different. See, I've been at this for 16 years now, starting with my tech blog (which I also recently announced that my intention is to retire from). And over the course of 16 years - which is a LOOONNNGGGG damn time on the Internet - I've seen things change drastically. It used to be easy. Today, only the tigers make it. Then, along this line, I recently saw two long-timers that I've known of for quite some time express similar sentiments. Chris Pirillo, of Lockergnome, recently expressed his frustrations on growing his business and how the things which used to work... don't. Chris comes from the tech space, as I do. So, I've known about Chris for years now and have watched him evolve. I watched an unlisted hangout video he did where he talked more about his current frustrations... and I know exactly where he's coming from. Then there's Yaro Starak, from Entrepreneurs Journey. Yaro recently posted Blogging For Money Has Changed: Here Is How Smart Bloggers Can Profit In 2014. In it, Yaro talks, too, about how things has changed. Yaro has been at it for 10 years. And he gives his perspective on how things has changed. So, that's two people I've known for awhile, both seeming to have similar thoughts as myself. And so I decided to comment on it in this week's episode of The Blog Program. In episode 25, you'll learn about... My review of the 13 points Yaro Starak mentioned in his post Why the "old school" model of "blog monetization" is deader today than it has ever been. Why blogging alone doesn't work anymore. The two pronged strategy I am personally pursuing, given the world we operate in today. Where the money really comes from. Why traffic numbers aren't nearly as important as they used to be, and what really matters more than traffic. I got a little.... ranty in this episode. I got quite passionate. And, be forewarned, I did drop the s-word. (gasp!) But, this is stuff I feel strongly about.
