One wouldn't usually place Indian artist's resurgent 80s hit 'Aaj Shanibaar' right next to works by British hip-hop group The Streets – but that is exactly what happens on Mumbai DJ-producer Himay's Wild City mix. The connecting thread is a no-frill embrace of house music in all its shade. To present that, Himay kicks things off with his usual fare of acid house with an unreleased original work that testifies to a level of simplicity and focus that mostly only a seasoned artist can achieve. This week's entry to the Local Selection Mix Series features an eclectic mix of house and techno from Dublin Digital Radio and The Midnight Disco Resident Sahana. She provides a stunning selection of quality dance music throughout as she gradually raises the energy during the duration of the recording, including a flurry of old-school techno gems that are full of flavour in the process. Sahana operates a monthly show on DDR titled ‘Mast Hour' where she uses her platform to champion DJs of colour. We premiere a track that goes right to the top of our favourite releases of the year, as Limerick party starters SHEE and Chaz Moloney once again come together in stunning fashion with 'Midweek' project. Midweek is a duo made up of the familiar faces, and highly regarded promoters, DJ's, producers and all round nice guys, Chaz Moloney and SHEE. After starting to run house parties, raves and then progressing to club shows and even their own day festivals under the collectives Touch of Techno and Clique. The duo hosted some of the biggest and the best names in dance music, including DVS1, Special Request, FJAAK, Tommy Holohan, KETTAMA, Boots & Kats, Folamour, Ben Sims, Mella Dee and to name a few. Today, we premiere an uplifting, euphoric, broken dance track that tells the story of resilience and overcoming obstacles. The Limerick duo has provided us with this game just in time for the summer months, with the duo set to release a full album in the next few months. "The track itself is aimed to be a euphoric, uplifting break tune. We started the project over a zoom call months ago, then pieced it all together in a cabin in the middle of nowhere in the very west of Clare". "The single is set to be released on the 25th of June followed by a full EP. We are releasing the music on our very own imprint "2SWEET Records" which we recently started. The Video was shot in Limerick, where we got local skateboarders and recorded them all around different spots around the city, it was a serious buzz!" "The video was edited by the Irish artists Brownsauce. This month’s podcast is brought to you in conjunction with Chow Down Manchester. Mixed by resident, Gumbleton, the mix showcases the kind of vibes you’d expect to encounter at the night which is reaching it’s second birthday (the 13th of March to be precise), where they’ll be welcoming Jacques Greene to Mint Club in Manchester. Over the past two years the night has gone from strength to strength, with guests including Loefah, Swindle, Joy O, Bok Bok and DJ Q. Now Pauper and Legoboy are running 3 monthly nights in 3 different venues in Manchester, all of which contribute strongly to the ever growing Manchester music scene, the Chow Down boys clearly know what they’re doing and this mix is no exception. Highlights of the mix include Damu’s acidy remix of Artifact and the dark vibes of My Nu Leng’s “The Grid”, not to mention Mella Dee & Squarehead’s collaboration “Get Together” that is justifiably still doing the rounds.
