I know I hadn't before I started researching for this series and I know even a lot of health professionals aren't familiar with this ever growing, oh so common type of disordered eating. My guest today had no idea she was struggling with a disorder until she she was encouraged by a friend to seek professional help. It is a sneaky disorder that flies under the radar because it is very culturally accepted and even applauded. The more I learned about orthorexia the more I became certain of one thing. We need to talk about orthorexia more! When does one cross the line from living a thriving life with a healthy connection to food over to struggling with orthorexia?! What is orthorexia? Simply put, it is the obsession with eating foods one considers to be healthy and someone who suffers from orthorexia goes to extremes to avoid specific foods they deem as harmful and bad. You do not have to check every box to be “sick” enough to seek help and when you seek professional help look for people who understand this disorder. Here is a link for one such online organization called Nourishing Minds Nutrition. 10 signs you might be struggling:A fixation over the quality of food.Inflexible eating patterns.Severe emotional turmoil if “rules” are broken. Cutting out entire food groups.Constant worry about sickness or disease.Anxiety simply being around certain foods. This condition isn't typically driven by poor body image.Loss of weight.Exercise is used as a punishment or seen as a necessity to being healthy. A person with orthorexia spends an excessive amount of time thinking about food. Tracking it, when to eat it, who will prepare it, avoiding social circumstances if you can't control what food will be there...etcHow orthorexia affected Emma:Hard time falling asleep.Got dizzy when she stood up.Lost a lot of weight quickly.Had a hard time concentrating.Lost her period.Didn't feel like herself.Spent copious amounts of time planning food, tracking food, weighing food and avoided going out with friends to social gatherings. What helped Emma in her journey to overcome orthorexia:Talking to trusted individuals and eventually a professional.Unfollowing all the social media accounts that were triggering.Finding exercise that you enjoy doing.Knowing its OK to indulge; to eat foods that you like; to enjoy a holiday!Remembering that food is memories and that the connections you make with people are more important than the food you eat.Focus on yourself. Do the things that help your confidence and what feels good to you. Let go of comparison. When we become mothers, we can often be surprised at the changes that it creates in our lives and this episode is a great reminder of that. Tania Domett is an all-round legend and champion of mothers. She is an entrepreneur and as well as running Cogo a research agency she founded 10 years ago she is also a co-founder of Project Gender - a feminist innovation studio delivering radical change through insights research, campaigns, and products and services. Project Gender was recently instrumental in getting a National Women's Health Strategy into legislation and now policy – after hearing from thousands of women across NZ about their challenges accessing healthcare and partnering with health professionals on a massive campaign. This episode was recorded before the pre-election policy announcements on paid parental leave (I feel like they must have heard our conversation) - bring it on!In our conversation, Tania shares her story and her experience of becoming a mother as well as solutions to smashing the motherhood penalty. How being a late bloomer is a beautiful thing – Tania's first office job was at age 38. The joining of forces with Angela Mayer to create Project Gender to bring a gender lens to the 2020 election - You Choose 2020. They advocated for a National Women's Health Strategy and now it is a formal policy. Saying yes to everything. Putting yourself out there. Even if it means hiding in the loos during networking events. How Motherhood is vastly different from Fatherhood. How a feminist can so easily become a 1950's housewife when you become a mother. Why smashing the system needs part time roles that are seen as leadership roles and men need to be the targets for flexible working. Measuring the right things to close the gender gap – how many men taking flexible roles, how many men taking parental leave, etcHow on-site childcare and school holiday programmes help you by not hiding your identity as a working parent. How Paid Parental Leave for all parents helps to destabilise the gender norm of women as caregivers and men as providers. We are one of 3 countries in the world that do not have paid partner leave. If we had this – we would dismantle barriers right at the beginning of your family. Hope is not a strategy – action is! I meet so many women —often in their later 30s— who say something along the lines of "I focused on my career, that's why I'm single." They're no stranger to hard work. They're the quintessential over achiever and they've been that way for as long as they can remember. But is their "focus on work," really the reason they're still single? This isn't about pointing fingers or laying blame, this is about getting curious to the consistent pattern and narrative. In this episode, I'm digging into the learned behaviors of overachievers and how that actually comes in direct conflict with meeting someone who is emotionally available and ready for a relationship. This episode will resonate with anyone who:Identifies as an overachiever and also struggles to find the relationship they wantFinds a lot of safety in work — whether it's a job or schoolwork, they've always been the one to work hardEither struggles to meet someone or is in a relationship but they feel like they're always the one giving more, making sacrifices, etcHow the nature of our nervous system is actually attuned to repel the thing we say we wantHow are hyper-independence — our ability to do "everything on our own," the thing we often pride in ourselves in serving as a major obstacle in our ability to meet someoneHow finding our worth in doing — working, achieving, etc, isn't helping usAnd so much more. Is your gymnast doing anything different this off-season with their nutrition or recovery? You know what they say about doing the same thing over and over again…and expecting a different result.Make this off-season different than the previous ones. Take the time to really investigate the injuries, fatigue, and the "why" behind unmet performance potential. And our brand new 5-part series, Gymnast Nutrition & Recovery in the Off-Season can help your gymnast level up her nutrition and crush their goals this off-season!In today's part 2, "What to ask their doctor", I'm discussing why it is vital to regularly check in with your gymnast's pediatrician. Adolescent bodies are complex; they are not just mini-adults. Even if your gymnast "seems" fine, there are a multitude of reasons your gymnast should have yearly visits with their doctor. Too often I've seen parents and gymnasts wait until something is REALLY wrong and then there is so much work to undo what could have been caught sooner. Or there's no baseline to compare to, so valuable time is wasted trying to figure out what exactly is the issue. In Part 2 of our Gymnast Nutrition & Recovery in the Off-Season series, we're focusing on what to ask your gymnast's doctor before they get too far into the off-season. Listen in! In this episode you'll hear: Why growth charts and development must be checked yearlyWhat to ask your doctor to check for in "common" gymnast complaints regarding fatigue, dizziness, mood, focus, struggling to sleep, etcHow to address poorly healing injuries or misdiagnosed injuries with the proper support Links & Resources The Balanced Gymnast® Program for level 5-10 female gymnasts 5 Ways to Level up Nutrition for Gymnastics Off-Season TrainingTeam Talk Series inquiries for coaches and ownersConnect with Christina on Instagram @the.gymnast.nutritionist or support@christinaandersonrdn.com

Matt Young is the CEO UserVoice, a product feedback management software that enables businesses to make data-driven product decisions and prioritize feature requests by making customer feedback more meaningful. As a boy, he had early access to computers since his Dad worked for IBM. In the 80s, he was interested in music and video games, which carried on through the rest of his life. Matt started his professional career as a software developer, right when web browsers were released. He developed innovative solutions on the web well before SaaS was a thing. Joining me this week is coach, writer, artist and yogini Cynthia Morris. An inspiring force of nature, Cynthia helps people make their big dreams a powerful reality. She is here to remind us that being creative isn't something we learn to be but rather who we are. We discuss the power of shifting perspective to keep us sane and how to use it as a tool to get unstuck. We get into how noticing is one of the most underrated tools we have at our disposal and how you can apply it in your own life. We get into our shared love of intuition and the ways it can guide you to places you wouldn't expect. One of my favorite examples of embodying a successful, no nonsense adult and playful, childlike, creative spirit, it should be no surprise that Cynthia's work is teaching and supporting others to blend those two things. What we further explore in this conversation What it means to dedicate yourself to your creative practicesHow to honor our daily creative acts such as cooking, parenting, gardening etcHow to overcome creative stagnationAnd more You can connect with Cynthia Morris, here: Website:: https://originalimpulse.comFB:: https://www.facebook.com/originalimpluseincInsta:: https://www.instagram.com/cynthiamorrisLinkedIn:: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cynthiamorris/ Quick note, I just want to say thank you for listening to this episode. Mold exposure is a big deal, I've covered it the past several episodes. Prolonged mold exposure can lead to a myriad of health concerns in adults as well as children, I've heard a ton of "sick kids stories" lately involving mold. While it would be nice to completely eliminate all mold exposures, it's important to keep in mind that the goal of mold mitigation is to make (and keep!) your indoor air environment as clean as possible. The #1 mistake that I personally see is that people have "remediation" done (and often it is inadequate!), but then they think the problem is gone and they forget about it. Indoor air quality is a constant battle. I didn't even talk about dusting in this episode! Dust is mold food, and mold can contribute to dust sensitivities and allergies. IT ALL MATTERS!In this episode I cover a lot of options, many of which are linked below. I also talk about several other good resources, like MoldFinders Radio Podcast , www.moldhelpforyou.com and www.sinusitiswellness.com. Check them all out!I broke this episode down into 5 categories, and discuss several subtopics under each category. Here is an outline of what I discuss:#1 - Good Testing!!The highest level of testing is having a good inspector!ERMI and HERTSMI testingEMMA testingMold PlatesBad Inspectors#2 - Remediation - REMOVE moldy drywall, carpet, mold on wood, clean, sand, vacuum, etcHow do they know?? Pre- and post- testing!!Plastic Wrap, etc - protect your environment!"Negative Pressure"Air ScrubbersHEPA Vacuum #3 - Do-It-Yourself OptionsREMOVAL - protect yourself and your environment! Not recommended for DIY....FoggingHEPA VacuumAir ScrubberOzoneCLEAN UP AFTER!!!!#4 - Air Quality Control / Mold & Mycotoxin MaintenanceAir Purifier - I like Austin Air the best!Detergent Additive - clean your clothes from airborne toxinsSprays - for furniture, carpet, hard surfaces, cleaningCandles - could neutralize spores and mycotoxinsDehumidifier - keep humidity below 50%Duct cleaningDUSTING! I forgot to discuss this on the episode, but it's important to keep your house clean in general. Dust is mold food, and dust has all sorts of particles, proteins, and fungal and bacterial fragments that can be inflammatory. #5 - Equipment You Need to HaveAN AIR PURIFIER IS A MUST-HAVE!Good HEPA Vacuum Fogger (large fogger or a personal airspace fogger)Ozone (large machine or a personal space machine)EC3 CandlesEC3 SprayEC3 DetergentYoutube Video: Mold Toxicity and Mycotoxin IllnessYoutube Video: Research Review - Mycotoxins Induce Neurotoxicity

You might have many linear plans and goals, though life is not linear. Life isn't designed to go according to plan. You may not have control of that, but you do have the ability to lean into the process and to continue to move forward. When you continue to move forward and grow, you give yourself the chance to bring change and impact wherever you have the opportunity to.Being a type A planner, Chriss Gillispie went into college with many linear plans. Some that she made happen, like graduating in 3 years and some were left upended. From being laid off within 6 months of graduating, being diagnosed with Celiac disease, and losing friendships. Throughout school Chrissi did everything she felt she was supposed to do, yet life still didn't go according to plan. After losing her job during a rough time, she was forced to find a sense of rest that she hasn't experienced since she was 15. After some sharp turns and bumps in the road, Chrissi found herself back at the college she graduated from, now working as an External Communications Coordinator. Chrissi's postgraduate journey got off to a rocky start, but she now finds thrill in where the journey took her.On this episode of Success is Subjective, Chrissi joins Joanna to share her journey as she navigated the challenging stages of college and post graduation. Many of her linear plans took unexpected turns and required a lot of uncomfortable growing. Listen in for insight on how Chrissi continues to learn through the ups and downs of life, and uses her talent in writing to make a difference wherever life takes her. What You Will LearnThe two very different ways of life Chrissi was surrounded with growing upMaking college work with FAFSA, scholarships, loans, etcHow impactful being a student mentor was for ChrissiThe major life events following graduationTaking time offThe journey of finding a job related to your degreeWhen Chrissi discovered she had Celiac diseaseThe importance in trusting the process Life is not linearConnect with Chriss GillispieChrissi Gillispie on LinkedIn ResourcesFoothills Gateway The “Why We Do It” page is my favorite on the whole site – you will see five videos listed, which I directed with a video crew, and I love every single one of them!Connect with Joanna Lilley Lilley ConsultingLilley Consulting on Instagram Lilley Consulting on Facebook Sponsored by: www.ParentTrainers.comEmail joanna@lilleyconsulting.com
