For more info and support, visit us at https://thecirsgroup.com In this episode of The CIRS Group podcast, Jacie and Barbara get into dust testing for mold, discussing personal experiences and sharing expert insights. They highlight different testing methods, including why MSQ-PCR testing is better than other methods, and when to use the ERMI vs the HERSMI-2 test. They'll explain why dust testing is generally more reliable than air sampling. They'll also go over how to do dust collection properly and how to interpret mold test results. Most importantly: Jacie and Barbara recommend working with an Indoor Environmental Professional (IEP) to get a comprehensive understanding of your environment and how to properly remediate. "I think now that we have this knowledge, then we can use our story to help create awareness." - Lori Evans Ermi Read the transcript here: https://app.swellai.com/t/tp_01JDRMT4Z5RGJ6SD35WBFBT4PM EPISODE SUMMARY: In this episode of Unraveling Adoption, I had the pleasure of welcoming Lori Evans Ermi and her 17-year-old daughter, Kate Ermi, both of whom are adoptees and co-wrote their new book, Adoption Songs. Our conversation delved into the complexities of adoption from their unique perspectives, highlighting the emotional layers that come with their experiences. Lori shared her journey as a domestic adoptee from the baby scoop era, detailing her late discovery of her adoption at the age of eight and the trust issues that arose from that revelation. Despite having loving adoptive parents, she faced challenges in her identity and connection to her biological roots. Kate, on the other hand, has always known she was adopted and has navigated her own path of understanding her heritage, which was further illuminated through DNA testing. We discussed the creation of Adoption Songs, where each chapter is framed as a track, with contributors choosing songs that resonate with their adoption stories. The book aims to provide a broad perspective on adoption, acknowledging both the joys and the inherent losses that come with it. Lori emphasized the importance of music as a healing tool, and Kate shared her lifelong passion for music, which has been a source of comfort for her. Throughout our conversation, we touched on the significance of community and shared experiences among adoptees, as well as the need for more resources and support for young adults in the adoption community. Lori and Kate's commitment to raising awareness and fostering understanding about adoption's complexities is truly inspiring. I encourage listeners to check out their book and visit their website, adoptionsongs.org, for more information and resources. Additionally, I shared details about an upcoming event, Adoption Healing Quest, which will take place in February 2025, aimed at exploring various healing modalities within the adoption community. Thank you for joining us in this important conversation, and I hope you find the insights shared by Lori and Kate as enlightening as I did. ===============

Lori Evans Ermi (she/her) wears a lot of hats! Lori is an adoptee, adopter, daughter, step-daughter, step-sister, half-sister, step-mother, single mom, entrepreneur, and former corporate executive now Professional Certified Coach and leadership consultant. Professionally, Lori has over 30 years' experience in corporate leadership and organizational development and she wants to use this experience to positively impact the Adoption Constellation. The creation of her book Adoption Songs allowed her to use all her skills and to get to the core of people's hearts and stories. She believes in coaching the whole person, not just a work persona. Research shows that when you can bring your whole self to work and life, your productivity and happiness improves. She wants to try and influence the mainstream —those who believe adoption is beautiful and have never asked an adoptee what it is like to be adopted. What she discovered in the research of Adoption Songs is a unique condition that many adoptees face in their world, and that is of belonging and identity. This offering is intended to enable those curious about this misunderstood population to be a resource, to be a conversation starter, and inspire adoptees to search for their identity. She is hopeful Adoption Songs can create insight into this phenomenon so that everyone who can relate can seek the support to move beyond adoption's limitations and emerge more grounded, connected, renewed, and purposeful.   Lori's Links: Author: Adoption Songs-Heartwarming and Heartbreaking Narratives From the Many Sides of Adoption: https://www.adoptionsongs.org/ Coaching Website: https://www.ermigroup.com/ Connect With Melissa: -Email Melissa here: mindyourownkarma@gmail.com -Click here for the Mind Your Own Karma's Website -Click here for Somatic Mindful Guided Imagery -Find Mind Your Own Karma on Facebook -Find Mind Your Own Karma on Instagram -Find Mind Your Own Karma on YouTube -Click here for a comprehensive list of adoptee/adoptee trauma informed practitioners. Dial 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. ________ WANT TO BE A GUEST? (click to email mindyourownkarma@gmail.com) Mind Your Own Karma–The Adoption Chronicles Podcast educates listeners on the realities of adoption through the stories of adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents. What are the symptoms of mold toxicity and how do you detox your body and home? Today I'm bringing you an information-packed episode on mold toxicity and mast cell activation syndrome. Like many, my guest today spent years struggling with her health before linking her many symptoms to mold exposure. For Cara Hoepner, the symptoms associated with mold exposure included cardiac arrhythmia, dizziness, rage, suicidal thoughts, chronic kidney disease, constipation, sleeplessness and more. Cara has been through years of resolving mold in her body and home spaces and is sharing her hard-earned insights on navigating it on multiple fronts. In our conversation, you'll hear… ·       The impact of mold on her health ·       How she tested her body and home for mold ·       How she detoxed from mold toxicity and recovered from what's called mast-cell activation syndrome, which was triggered by mold exposure ·       Her recommendations for mold testing, inspections, and remediation ·       Her do's and don'ts when confronting mold ·       Mold resources Mast cell activation syndrome, or MCAS, is when chemicals called mast cell mediators are released too frequently or abundantly, and in response to triggers that are not typically considered to be harmful, such as foods. This can lead to a wide range of symptoms. About Cara Hoepner Cara Hoepner completed nurse practitioner training at the University of California, San Francisco, and is in private practice in San Francisco – seeing California patients. She provides traditional and integrative medicine, as well as solution-focused wellness coaching, to individuals living with the challenges of mood, anxiety, trauma, ADHD – and sleep. Cara specializes in complex cases, and solutions without side effects. In her roles as author, speaker, and advisor, Cara focuses on educating and motivating clinicians, industry and the public to employ medications and supplementation, psychotherapy, and a whole-person, lifestyle approach to mental health. Many of us get into this industry because we have personal horror stories with mold. For me, I bought a home that had floor to ceiling mold in the kitchen. It was completely invisible to the naked eye, until we started the renovation process and took walls down to the studs. For today's guest, Megan Carson, she was reaching a sever level of mold toxicity and couldn't identify the source until having an ERMI test and an inspection. Luckily, she was able to get out of her lease and high tail it out of there! But that led her down the path to becoming the founder of Guided Well LLC. She is a certified mold inspector and IEP with a specialized focus on client education and building defect identification related to poor building science and design in relation to indoor air quality issues. After her own four walls made her sick, she's making it her mission to help other people out of that sort of situation. For any of you home renters out there, we're starting this conversation with some safe guards that all renters need to know about. From getting your own inspections (not through management) to discussing additional clauses in the lease to guarantee a way out if water damage becomes an issue. Then, we're chatting all things remediation so you don't have to go into the process already overwhelmed. In this episode, we're chatting about:Why Megan became a mold inspectorThe importance of good testing and validation before remediationHow to vet a mold inspectorWhat the sampling process should look like (hint: it's not supposed to just be air samples in the middle of the room)Learning the difference between restoration and remediationWhy encapsulation should only be used as a last resortConnect with Megan: InstagramConnect with me: InstagramMore Resources

He graduated from Bastyr University, the leading accredited university for science-based natural medicine.  Prior to medical school, he received his B.A. in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1997. During this time he also finished his E.M.T. (Emergency Medical Technician) training and volunteered at Porter Care Hospice in Denver. This dual exposure of medical perspectives laid down the roots for Dr. Dorninger's integrated approach to diagnosis, treatment, and healing.  Following undergrad, Dr. Dorninger served as an EMT for the Cranford First Aid Squad in Cranford, NJ. He then completed his doctorate in naturopathic medicine and his master's degree in acupuncture at Bastyr University in 2003, after which he returned to Boulder, Colorado to complete a 2-year residency in naturopathic primary care.  In 2005, Dr. Dorninger founded Roots and Branches Integrative Health Care, a clinic dedicated to “Mystery Illness” where he focuses on elucidating the underlying causes of unrelenting chronic illness.  Dr. Dorninger is not concerned with what you have as much as he is with why you have it. He has dedicated his professional life to a deeper understanding of differential diagnosis based in the tradition of “Remove Obstacles to Cure.”  After the 2013 floods in Boulder, Dr. Dorninger noticed that patients who were initially getting better suddenly regressed. Moreover, patients he was struggling to diagnose got worse.  Fortunately, he was guided to the honest, data-driven, peer-reviewed, reproducible published work of Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker on mold and biotoxin illness. In 2014 Dr. Dorninger signed on for his Shoemaker certification training.  Dr. Dorninger is a certified Shoemaker practitioner and remains true to the Shoemaker protocol.  According to Dorninger, diagnosing underlying causes and facilitating accurate treatment plans is a grind. At Roots and Branches, we embrace the grind.  In addition to private practice, Dr. Dorninger teaches functional medicine for Apex Energetics, practices Jiu-Jitsu, skis, and enjoys watching his biotoxin-genetically susceptible kids thrive post chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS) treatment. Key Takeaways: What are the root causes of CIRS? What is the difference between endotoxins and lipopolysaccharides? Do Actinos or endotoxins trigger MCAS? Should Actino and endotoxin testing always be done along with the ERMI? Is there still a place for HLA-DR? What has GENIE revealed about patients with CIRS? How should Actino and endotoxin testing be evaluated? Are soil habitat Actinos a contributor to CIRS? What is the role of Actinos on the skin? What drainpipe maintenance should be considered to reduce exposure to Actinos? What steps should be taken to optimize our sleep location? Do air filters play a role in reducing Actinos and endotoxins? What is the role of Cholestyramine in dealing with Actinos and endotoxins? Can Actinos be found in the blood? Might there be a place for antimicrobial interventions in dealing with Actinos? Why You Should Listen:  In this episode, you will learn about ImmunoLytics and gravity plate testing. About My Guest: My guest for this episode is JW Biava.  JW Biava is the Owner and CEO of ImmunoLytics, an environmental laboratory that specializes in assessing indoor environments for mold contamination and provides consultations with clients over how best to reduce any contamination found.  JW's interest in environmental mold exposure grew tremendously after determining that high levels of mold in his own home were a major contributor to his various illnesses, as well as those of his family members.  JW was introduced to Dr. Walter Hayhurst R.Ph. in the early 2000s, at which time he began working on the development of natural botanical products aimed at improving mold contaminated environments. These products were taken to market though CitriSafe, BioBalance, and Micro Balance Health Products.  JW created ImmunoLytics Laboratory to address indoor air quality issues related to mold. ImmunoLytics began by assisting a few doctors who wanted to determine if mold exposure in their patients' homes could be contributing to their health issues.  ImmunoLytics has since grown to service hundreds of doctors and tens of thousands of patients around the world on a yearly basis.  JW holds several certifications including Certified Mold Inspector, Certified Mold Remediation Contractor, AHERA Inspector, Lead Inspector, Radiation Safety Officer, Shipper of Hazardous Materials including Radioactive Materials, Thermography, and more.  JW currently spends his days running a suite of businesses aimed at providing solutions for those with environmentally acquired illnesses.  JW has been a featured speaker to hundreds of thousands through events such as The Toxic Mold Summit, The Candida Summit, The Toxic Mold Masterclass, as well as numerous podcast appearances. Key Takeaways: What are the various types of testing available? How does one break the tie when multiple methods paint different pictures? How is sampling with gravity plates performed? Do gravity plates have the ability to identify all relevant molds in biotoxin illness? What are the colony counts and how are they interpreted? What does bacteria showing up on a plate tell us? What does it mean if Candida appears on a gravity plate? What are some of the unexpected environments where mold might be found? Can swab testing identify molds that gravity plates may not? How important is source removal? What is the role of fogging or misting? How can the health of a car be improved? Functional medicine tests are definitely not mainstream medicine. Chronic Lyme disease and co-infections can easily go undetected. Dr. Tenesha Wards shares in-depth tests that are essential to helping us dig deep to find the root cause of our symptoms.EPISODE SUMMARY: In this episode, Dr. Tenesha Wards discusses various functional medicine tests that can provide valuable insights into identifying the root causes of chronic symptoms. Functional medicine tests are not widely recognized in mainstream medicine but are essential in uncovering conditions such as chronic Lyme disease and co-infections that may go undetected by conventional methods.01:35 Dr. Wards reveals the results of several tests, starting with blood work that can indicate low or high stomach acid levels. 06:07 She explains that high LDL and low HDL cholesterol levels can signify liver stress, while elevated C-reactive protein levels can indicate inflammation in the heart. 08:10 The presence of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) can explain chronic fatigue.10:10 Furthermore, Dr. Wards highlights the importance of the adrenal test, which measures circadian rhythms and helps assess stress levels. 11:51 Chronic infections can cause extreme stress, and 13:09 stealth pathogens hide within the body. When good bacteria levels are high, it may indicate an ongoing fight against something harmful. 14:49 Additionally, the episode discusses the presence of microscopic parasites, 16:30 the testing of brain chemicals for medication determination, and 17:18 pharmacogenetic tests for personalized medication selection.19:06 The episode also covers mold testing to identify mycotoxins and 20:49 the ERMI test to determine if there is mold in one's home. 21:15 An MTHFR genetic mutation is mentioned, which can indicate poor detoxification ability. 21:58 Functional medicine Lyme tests are emphasized for their increased accuracy in detecting Lyme disease, 23:19 as only 30% of tick bites leave a bullseye rash. 23:30 If caught within six months, Lyme disease is treatable with Doxycycline.23:57 Dr. Wards explains that stealth pathogens can build biofilm protective shells. 24:11 And the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, responsible for Lyme disease, has a corkscrew-like shape that allows it to spiral into the body. 25:07 Lymphatic massages can disturb the hidden pathogens.25:52 The episode highlights the global impact of Lyme disease, mentioning a 5,300-year-old ice mummy found to have Lyme. 26:55 Lyme disease is named after Lyme, Connecticut, 26:55 while the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi is named after the doctor who discovered it.RESOURCES:YourTruthRevealed.com/Infinity – Free eBook and Webinar by Dr Tenesha WardsYourTruthRevealed.com – Newsletter and Previous Seasons Thanks for listening! 403: I Got Mold Poisoning! How to Check For Toxic Mold and How to Detox Your Home and Your Body

Could toxic mold be affecting your health? Mold is a tricky thing. It's affected people since the dawn of time – yet conventional medicine rarely addresses it.  But make no mistake: it is a serious issue. Mold produces mycotoxins that can drive up estrogen levels, overburden the body with toxicity and elevate inflammation – so if you're sensitive to mold (25% of people have the gene that make them sensitive) other symptoms will appear, like frequent illness, excess allergies, exhaustion, hormonal issues, and more. In this episode, I share the story of discovering toxic black mold in the vents of every room in my house, getting mold toxicity poisoning after an HVAC worker left the vent covers off - exposing me to more toxic mold, and mold spores - and what I am doing about it. Then, I am speaking with Jenn Malecha who has her own harrowing mold toxicity story - and it is a must-listen! Jenn Malecha had a pretty healthy up-bringing – garden, vegetables, an active lifestyle. But when she got to college, the long hours and stress caused by studying and working crazy hours caused her health to decline. Then, at just 25 (and having never been a sun-worshipper), Jenn was diagnosed with skin cancer…   She knew it had to be caused by her environment and lifestyle. Functional tests revealed that she had high oxidative stress, a clogged-up liver, and adrenal dysfunction. So she tackled all those things, and felt like herself again…until five years later.  She began gaining weight, her periods were all over the place, she had candida overgrowth and inflamed breasts. She went to experts, who were unable to tell her what was going on.   One day later on she opened the cupboard near her work desk, and guess what? Black mold everywhere. The Toxic mold had been what devastated her health. Having understood what was causing these issues, she began rebalancing her health. She became the boss of her health instead of relying on doctors. She now empowers others to have that same connection with their body.   Screen for Mold at Home: Visual contrast screening – You can take the test for just $15 Even if you pass this test, take an at home microscopy mold test by Citrisafe. This is a small Petri dish that collects mold spores. Once sent to the lab, researchers will analyze the type of mold present in your home. The other test is called an ERMI test and is available from Mycometrics . This is a cloth with which you dust surfaces around your house. The cloth is then analyzed for mold – this test can be good to do because, unlike the microscopy test, it doesn't depend on the mold spores being alive.    Getting Rid of Mold: Hire professionals to remove and remediate the mold (really important!) Clean air ducts and HVAC system. Buy anti-mold solution Bio-Balance. This is a natural toxin-free solution to remove mold from your home. Get rid of mold on your carpet and your pets – products available at www.citrisafe.com.  After 30 days, retest your home for mold. Get some functional tests done – if you're sensitive to mold, it will trigger a chronic inflammatory response.  Detox Your Body and Feed Yourself Right: Biotoxins can make the body hyperreactive to wheat. So avoiding gluten is essential. Eat more natural detoxifying foods like beets, dandelion tea, grapefruit, lemon. Keep an anti-inflammatory diet – remove grains, dairy, soy, sugar, and processed foods from your diet. Run a food sensitivity test to find out which foods to stay away from. Check your personal care products – do they contain allergens like oats or almonds? Start a food journal – this will help you identify what triggers your symptoms. Listen to your body – tune in and see what the body is telling you rather than just trying to follow protocols. Think yourself healthy – mindset and health are absolutely linked. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Practitioner, Founder, and Owner of Metabolic Solutions LLC, Brendan Dean Vermeire. Brendan has always been an extremely motivated individual and grew up active in martial arts and wrestling among dabbling in other activities. At a young age, he realized the importance of fitness and nutrition. Brendan felt empowered by the idea that he had control over his health and physique. Brendan enlisted in the United States Navy for the prestigious SEAL program. Unfortunately, his SEAL aspirations were cut short due to an inguinal hernia that led to a medical discharge. This episode originally aired on Friday June 4th 2021. Brendan transitioned into competitive bodybuilding and started personal training and nutrition coaching at the age of 19. When he started in the industry, he had the pleasure of working with experienced professionals with a vast array of backgrounds and education. Brendan was fortunate enough to gain exposure to many modalities and areas of science.Being an extremely motivated individual, that exposure has set him on a path to learning as much as he can to optimize human health, happiness, and performance. There is nothing more rewarding to me than being able to help individuals attain a level of wellness they never thought possible. In this episode, Brendan Vermeire talks all about mold and mold illness diagnosis. First, he dives into the importance of fungus for our planet and its role in our ecosystem. Then, Brendan explains how to know if you are living with mold in your home and what you can do when you discover mold in your environment. Later, Brendan reveals his personal story with mold illness. Finally, the conversation turns to EMF radiation and how you can protect yourself.  Order Keto Flex: http://www.ketoflexbook.com -------------------------------------------------------- / / E P I S O D E   S P ON S O R S  PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. Fungus has been on planet Earth a lot longer than humans have. How much fungal overgrowth do you have in your body? It can be a spectrum. Whereas mainstream doctors want you to believe that it's all or nothing. Here are some other questions you need to consider when thinking about mold illness: How many mycotoxins might be trapped in your tissues? How much mold exposure are you getting? How resilient is your body against mold? How robust are your detox systems and immune system? [11:50] How To Know If You Are Living With Mold Fungi feeds on carbohydrates and rotting material. Something you should consider is the role of fungi in the natural world. Fungi will break down dead carbon-based material to recycle nutrients back to the soil. Overall, it plays a very important role in our ecosystem. In fact, fungi seem to be a normal part of our gut microbiome. It trains our immune system and matures our immune system. Most people will find mold in their living environment. The US Environmental Protection Authority developed ERMI to provide a straightforward way to assess mold and indoor air quality investigations. Learn more about ERMI here: https://www.envirobiomics.com/product/ermi/ We have to think about the degree of mold exposure in the environment, the frequency, and the mold load. [20:25] What To Do If You Know You Have Mold In Your Home There's a very fine line between creating a problem where there isn't one versus identifying a healing opportunity where there is one. We are all exposed to a lot of bad things every single day. So, we can't make it sound like if you're at all exposed, you're going to be ill. The biggest thing you need to think about is if you have symptoms. However, if you're living in a compromised environment, it's probably just a matter of time before you do start developing symptoms. The first option is to remediate and reduce the fungal load to improve the home's air quality. Otherwise, it would be best if you moved out of your home. Check out @moldfinders on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/moldfinders [23:40] How Mold Played A Role In Brendan's Life Nobody cares about mold until they get really sick from it. One day, Brendan's fiancé at the time woke up with an unrelenting cramp. Eventually, she became emaciated. Brendan had fatigue, and it compounded his depressive tendencies. Unfortunately, Brendan's fiancé was the canary in the coal mine. Sadly, they ended up separating because it became such a toxic and volatile situation. Four years later, Brendan got the news that she had taken her own life. [34:30] EMFs Are Damaging The Body Humans are so disconnected from our innate intuition. The radiation that's being emitted from our electronic devices cannot be good for us. We need a lot more studies when it comes to EMFs and damaging our bodies. EMFs are already categorized as a probable carcinogen. We as a species, as a collective, are lacking tolerance to both mold and this radiation. [37:30] Reducing The Damage EMFs Can Have On Your Body The most important thing you can do is reduce the exposure. Turn off your wi-fi router at night. Put your phone on airplane mode. There's not a ton that you can do to reduce the exposure because it is everywhere. Instead, think about what you can control. [43:55] What Brendan Is Most Looking Forward To This Year Brendan is grateful to niche down in the mold world. Brendan is focusing on mental health and a functional medicine approach to mental health. Plus, Brendan is excited to start writing his book, and he is speaking at IMMH.
