Green Lung, Creeper, Brutus, Malevolence, Zeal & Ardor, Bob Vylan, Dinosaur Pile Up, Bleed From Within, Boston Manor... all names we hope to see headline our festivals in the future. But what does it take to get there and why does the path to the top of the bill seem so clear at 2000trees, yet so complicated at ATG and Damnation? Gav and James also have a bash at booking a stage for the other's festival, from the sublime (We Lost The Sea and Tomb Mould) to the ridiculous (Moon Tooth?) .And there's Blanket and The Moth Gatherer and Meryl Streek and Pig Destroyer and Anaal Nathrakh and Spirit Adrift and...This is our fanboy episode. We go again, next Thursday morning. Be there.

I've been a Moon Tooth and Nick Lee fan for over a decade. I used to bounce around dumpy apartments in NYC and the highlight of my life was going to see them play from time to time. We're all native Long Islanders and I even went to school with one of the guys. It's really been awesome watching them grow over the years. Seeing Nick play in particular has always been inspiring. I watch him and often think, "this is exactly what this guy should be doing", and it has made me strive for something similar in my playing and relationship with music. We talk about booking shows, the pros/cons of social media, how prog has infiltrated the metal scene, and a personal favorite of mine: not comparing yourself to others. Follow!

Episode 8 of Season 6 went out live at 7 pm on Rebel Rock Radio on 23 Feb 2023. 23 2 23 what a day, what a week what a 26-month journey. I am out of the game. Long live Rock and Roll. We kicked off this very unplanned show with Guns ‘n' Roses and ‘Anything Goes'. From there something brand new from Black Star Riders and something old from Badlands, an awesome track called ‘High Wire'. Mike Orlando from Adrenaline Mob gave us all guitar lessons on a track called 'Dearly Departed'. Grunge duty was fulfilled by Nirvana, Puddle of Mud, and Temple of the Dog. We checked out another track from Indian rockers Girish & the Chronicles and a track off their latest album Hail to the Heroes, featuring Lamb of God's drummer, the brilliant Chris Adler. There was an interesting little biographical bit all about 23 2 23 which has become a special day in the life of TSORR. I'll tell you about it if you want to know. We checked out ‘Lay Your Hands On Me' off Bon Jovi's New Jersey album, then Bowie with ‘Changes' and finally, U2 with ‘Beautiful Day' which it was. From there we checked out Metallica and all 7:50 of the Diamond Head classic ‘Am I Evil' which is this week's Immortal track. The Ultimate Challenge this week looked at 1973. The choices were Led Zeppelin – Houses of the Holy, Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, The Rolling Stones – Goats Head Soup, and Black Sabbath's – Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. We hit the home stretch with some punk courtesy of Blink 182 and ‘Edging' then the Clash and The Stranglers and I couldn't resist Patti Smith and 'Rock ‘n' Roll Nigger',. We ended heavy with Death Angel and Slayer and said good night with ‘Langpad' by Cape Town legends The Uninvited. Artists featured: Guns ‘n' Roses, Black Star Riders, Badlands, Reef, Smith / Kotzen, Adrenaline Mob, Black Country Communion, Clutch, Moon Tooth, Nirvana, Puddle of Mudd, Temple of the Dog, Girish and the Chronicles, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Alice Cooper, KISS, Tesla, Rose Tattoo, Bon The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Blink 182, Jovi, David Bowie, U2, Metallica, ACDC, My Chemical Romance, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Blink 182, The Clash, The Stranglers, Patti Smith, Death Angel, Slayer, The Uninvited. The Story of Rock and Roll. TSORR - Your one-stop shop for Rock
S6E5 aired at 19h00 on 2 Feb 2023 live on Rebel Rock Radio. The opening track was by Warrior Soul, I have some good memories of this band. Marq Vas and I discovered them in the early ‘90s and their Last Decade, Dead Century album, where this track came from was always in heavy rotation. Next up, Thunder Mother with ‘Borrowed Time' conjured up the image of thousands of lighters held aloft, and ‘Turn of the Screw' from Heaven & Hell again reminded us of the magnificence of Ronnie James Dio's Voice. During the show, Tim sent me the list of 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations and coincidently four of them were in the 'possible track' playlist. So with that, I had to play Iron Maiden, Sound Garden, Sheryl Crow, and Warren Zevon. Good luck to all of them. Billy Idol has a very cool thing going, he has released an EP every year since 2021, I assume it is on purpose, and we will get another one in 2023. It keeps things fresh and as long as Steve Stevens is with him I will buy every single one. Suicidal Tendencies raised the tempo by a factor of about ten with a delightful track called ‘Disco's Out, Murders In'. We had a bit of fun trying to figure out which of these four albums released in 1984 you would choose if you could only choose two. We had Van Halen, - 1984, Iron Maiden - Powerslave, Metallica - Ride The Lightening and, Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith. There was no clear favorite which was to be expected given the quality of those albums, and that was the point. For my money, it was Metallica and the mighty Judas Priest, but tomorrow it might be different. Next week we will look at 1980. We took a listen to 'The Sentinel' and 'Creeping Death'. South African music was well represented by Future Radio, comprising Johnny Future and Drikus Roets, two very talented artist/musicians. We heard a track called 'DOI' off their Freedom album, then we had Johnathan Martin with 'Don't Want To Know' and finally SA Rock and Bluesman Kenny Hughes who spoke to me this week and told me a bit about the new track 'Midnight Man'. We listened to what he said about it and then took a listen to it. It is a great track and people liked it a lot. The plan is to do more of these short 5 min interviews and to give the artist a chance to tell you about their music. The UK Punk slot was ably filled by The Stranglers, UK Subs, and Sham 69 and then it was time for our weekly Immortals, i.e. tracks over 7 min long that will live forever. This week it was The Fall of the Peacemakers by Molly Hatchet. For my money the highlights of this show were Indian rockers Girish & the Chronicles, their new album Back on Earth is simply stunning, its got everything you would expect from a top-flight '80s style metal band. The brand new Iggy Pop is out and we played ‘Morning Show' which is wonderful. I advised you to listen to it a couple of times. It is a serious grower. There is plenty more to get into, this episode was a cracker. Cheers and thanks for listening. Artists featured: Warrior Soul, Thunder Mother, Heaven & Hell, Black Stone Cherry, Soundgarden, L.A. Rats, Slash, Suicidal Tendencies, Black Label Society, Billy Idol, Skid Row, Sheryl Crow, Iron Maiden, Moon Tooth, Pearl Jam, Future Radio, Johnathan Martin, Kenny Hughes, Girish & the Chronicles, ACDC, Judas Priest, Metallica, The Stranglers, UK Subs, Sham 69, Molly Hatchet, Santana, Uriah Heep, Iggy Pop, Bush, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, U2, Tim Minchin, Robbie Robertson, Warren Zevon, SlayerThe Story of Rock and Roll. Metalheads!! Tracey unleashes Moon Tooth as his pick for an album released in May!
Join John and I as he checks in from the road before a stop on their run with Dance Gavin Dance. We talk a bit about their first few shows back from the pandemic, and getting reacclimated to playing live again. We touch on how shows pre pandemic felt like a place people wanted to go to be seen, but not be there for the music, to where now it seems everyone is there for the bands and to let loose at shows. John and I also talk about their newest album, Phototroph, some of the lyrical themes and how the albums interesting artwork came to be. We also get into John's journaling and talking about how that's helped him over the years and when he started doing that and much more in this week's podcast. We have something different this week. We attended our first music festival in over two years, and hung out with the fine gentlemen in Moon Tooth!!! It was weird and glorious...so we decided to record on the way (and back) in the car. We listened to all the bands on the undercard and gave our two cents...most we had never listened to before. Because we recorded in the car...the quality is not quite our usual...especially for the first 30 seconds or so...but HANG IN THERE...it gets better. We did our best to tone down the road noise...but ultimately we were in a car going 70 miles an hour recording on iPhones with lav mics. Get our pre-show thoughts in the first half, and then an event recap in the second half!Great people watching, some good and bad music...a bonus hardcore show in a tiny venue, and good times were had. Shortly after we got there we heard one person in front of us say "I saw Good Charlotte when I was 13 and that shit changed my life". That pretty much sums up Swanfest we'd say! Here's a playlist of the bands we listened to in the order we listened...pause at the sweet guitar solo between each discussion and listen along if you like...for most we sampled the first couple "most popular" tracks on Spotify. Join us...it's fun!!!
Singer of Ponderosa Grove and producer of the upcoming Pure Imagination Festival in her hometown of Prescott, Arizona, Candace Devine loves whiskey and today, she brings her palate to the dance of tasting on the podcast. She talks about her current tour with Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Fred somehow tells a story about the time he passed out next to homeless people in New Orleans. Over drinks, Kevin talks about his favorite bands to hang out with at festivals and gets into the stories of 1990s rock. But it's when Kevin shares a personal Julian Van Winkle story, that you can see Kevin's really a whiskey nerd, even if he admits country music lends itself more for a band to start a whiskey than a rock band. He notes that fans want to see people's music not the band's face on a whiskey bottle, adding "Rock and Roll is cocaine and hookers." There is no bourbon in this episode. But coffee founder Sahra Nguyen, 35, teaches Fred how to taste coffee like a pro and discusses the state of the coffee business and how she is bringing back Vietnamese coffee beans. Nguyen is successfully transforming coffee culture with a focus on diversity, inclusion and sustainability. She launched Nguyen Coffee Supply in 2018 in Brooklyn, NY. It's the first specialty coffee company in the U.S to celebrate, champion and import beans directly from family-owned coffee farmers in Vietnam—the second largest coffee producer in the world—roasting 'single-origin' clean and organic beans prized by coffee connoisseurs. The daughter of Vietnamese refugees, this 35 year old coffee pioneer is helping to bridge communities by promoting cultural awareness and sharing stories of the underrepresented. Nguyen's accomplishments have been widely recognized by her industry and the media; this summer she graced the cover of Food & Wine magazine as one of "25 Game Changers." Food & Wine writes that "Vietnamese coffee culture is having its own moment here in America, in large part due to Nguyen." Happy Monday, Happy Holidays, and let's get down to the real question here...DOES IT DOOM???? Today's guest is Steve Reis...face of the very popular YouTube channel Does it Doom? Steve's channel helps break down stoner, sludge, and doom songs, bands, and gear...his goal is to de-mystify doom and help folks play the songs and get the tones. How does Matt Pike do it? How does Sunn 0))) make Sunn 0))) sounds? How can yo use gear aimed at the mass market to get very specific sounds? We talked to Steve about all of that, the birth of the channel, new bands to break down, getting into the business of building gear (pedalboards, pedals, guitars), the legendary First Act customs (he's a collector), and balancing a full-time job, a family, and an exploding YouTube empire. We also listen to some great music, including songs from the Dominance and Submission Blue Oyster Cult comp that Ripple is putting out featuring past guests Howling Giant, Zeke, Year of the Cobra, and many more. We wrap up by listening to Moon Tooth's new song The Conduit as we look forward to our 2021 wrap-up episode with the one and only John Carbone...singer for Moon Tooth.Does it DoomYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcnbt-HT9GbsN2jNw9iEJGwInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/doesitdoom/?hl=enFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/doesitdoomMoon Tooth - The Conduithttps://moontoothny.bandcamp.com/track/the-conduitDominance and Submission - A Tribute to Blue Oyster Culthttps://ripplemusic.bandcamp.com/album/d-minance-and-submissi-n-a-tribute-to-blue-yster-cultThis Week's SubmissionsFostermotherhttps://ripplemusic.bandcamp.com/album/the-oceanCrash Cadethttps://crashcadet.bandcamp.com/track/hot-bananasTears of Firehttps://tearsoffire.bandcamp.com/album/relics-of-ancient-loveBands! Country music star Clay Walker kicks back in his wine cellar and pours himself Michter's 10 Year, 291 Colorado Rye Whiskey and Seelbach's Bourbon. Fred and Clay talk about the impact of music on Fred's life, including a Clay Walker show he saw in his teenage years. They talked about the FFA, Rodeos, fallen friends, multiple sclerosis (Clay was diagnosed at 26) and upcoming shows, including a CMT appearance. Clay Walker by the Numbers - 11 No. 1 singles - 39 songs on the Billboard charts - four RIAA PLATINUM albums - two Certified GOLD albums *'Texas To Tennessee' album out now (7.30) via Show Dog Nashville: https://orcd.co/texastotennessee *”Behind The Album” video series launched in August, here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNSbbtd8Cx5-OXkWWzmQ2IQ *Clay will perform as part of CMT's "A Tennessee Kind of Christmas” airing Wednesday, Dec 8 at 9/8c on CMT *New single “Catching Up with An Ol' Memory” to be released early 2022 Clay Walker Bio Discovered in a Beaumont area bar by noted producer and head of Giant Records James Stroud (Toby Keith, Tracy Lawrence, Tim McGraw, Kenny Rogers), Clay Walker was in his early twenties when he started rattling off a string of smash hits: “Live Until I Die,” "Dreaming With My Eyes Open," “This Woman And This Man,” "Hypnotize The Moon," "Rumor Has It," “Then What,” "I Can't Sleep" and "She Won't Be Lonely Long." Four platinum albums, more than 30 charted singles and 11 No. 1's later, Texas-native Clay Walker has built a storied career blending country's timeless themes with music-of-the-moment timeliness. Nowhere is this more apparent than on Walker's debut Show Dog Nashville album ‘Texas To Tennessee' (7.30). Certainly, the realities of place are as central as this comeback album's name implies: Nashville - busily working toward the next fresh hit; Texas - moving at its inimitable and familiar pace. Embracing the role of social media in today's music industry, Walker has built a following of more than 1 million fans on TikTok. Produced by Michael Knox (Jason Aldean) and chart-topping songwriter Jaron Boyer, ‘Texas To Tennessee' delivers smooth bore country that would feel right at home on any of Walker's four platinum CDs. It's a modern album that nods at an earlier era in its time economy. The "aggressive progressive" guitarist chases "peanut-butter tone" with a pair of Vigiers, some fine-tuned drives, drifting delays, and ping-ponging pitch shifters.
Albums discussed are Moon Tooth's 'Crux' (14:58), Julia Michaels' 'Nervous System' (37:00) and Sly & The Family Stone's 'Fresh' (60:01). This week's listener album suggestion came from Apple Podcasts user Scottie Pippen's Bunz. To suggest an album for CLRC, leave a review on Apple Podcasts with the artist and title (five stars always helps). For playlists and podcasts, visit us on the web at carllandryrecordclub.com and on Twitter @CLRCPod. The theme song for Carl Landry Record Club is "I Should Let You Know" by Marian Hill. This is CLRC episode #27.
On this episode of The Fred Minnick Show, the hard rock band Moon Tooth, one of Fred's favorites, is the guest. Members Ray Marte, John Carbone and Vincent Romanelli talk about their song "Awe at All Angles," which is the new musical backdrop for Fred's podcast and other creative efforts. The band members also discuss their many musical projects, creating new songs, what they drink (and sometimes eat) while on the road, Pappy Van Winkle and much more. Along the way, of course, they sip some fine whiskey - and even some brandy - with Fred. Spirits tasted: Spirits of French Lick Hoosier Apple Brandy (18:10) Sonoma Rye (30: 53) Old Tub (40:31) Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond (54:30) Old Forester 1920 (1:21: 52) EPISODE SUMMARY Fred and the band talk about a wide variety of things, such as: Fred starts the guys off with the unexpected, kicking things off with an apple brandy instead of a whiskey. He then professes his belief that bass players are woefully underrated, and he asks Vincent what he does to make the band or a certain song sound the best it can. John talks about how a song comes together - and how important it is that the members of Moon Tooth are so often on the same page. John talks about his singing influences from Maynard Keenan of Tool to Delta blues and soul singers like Otis Redding. He also touches on taking care of one's singing voice. The band talks with Fred about how whiskey can help - or hinder - a live performance. Long story short, Moon Tooth isn't going onstage drunk. Fred introduces the band to Old Tub, a newer Jim Beam product that Fred has touted as outpacing its modest $23 price tag. Everyone talks about what got them through the covid shutdown of 2020 and how so many people have come to the realization that they probably drank way too much during that time - Fred included. "And I'm a professional!" Fred exclaims. Ray discusses the fact that covid also was a time when many musicians created a lot of new music, something that will benefit all of us going forward. Fred talks with Moon Tooth about how tough it has been to not be able to tour. Playing on stage is what being a musician is about. They talk about playing a show at the Thompson House in Newport, Ky. The early-19th century mansion is commonly believe to be haunted, thanks to numerous deaths that occurred there. Fred gives the guys a lesson in the history of bottled in bond. Ray gets a chance to talk about why the drummer is typically, as Fred words it, "the heartbeat of the band." The band agrees that "everything starts with drums." Fred gushes about how much he loves Moon Tooth's music. He then calls John King, the guy who hooked Fred up with the band, to offer confirmation. The conversation turns to a general discussion of the importance of doing what one loves. John promises to work the word "bourbon" or the name of a bourbon of Fred's choice into a song on the upcoming Moon Tooth album. Fred gets the band to tell the story of how they came to the band Moon Tooth. The discussion briefly turns to country music at around the 1:40:00 mark. Fred has the band go back and re-taste every spirit from the flight and pick their favorite: Vincent chooses Old Fo 1920; John picks the 1897, and Ray, the band's recognized "whiskey geek," liked the apple brandy. For Fred, it was the 1897, which was something of a surprise, given his love of the 1920. QUOTABLES John Carbone, lead singer of Moon Tooth, on playing live music: "When it comes to performing live, pursuing this has been the most difficult thing I've done in my life. But the feeling I get when I'm up there ... if you can think of a time where you felt absolutely free from fear. You felt you could do anything ... There word 'should' doesn't even exist. That's when any performer is going to give their best performance, when they're totally free of thought and fear. ... It's almost like a different...
Svend and David spend episode 2 discussing two bands that should be MUCH more popular in Rubblebucket and Moon Tooth. Songs on episode: Rubblebucket - Major Roxy (Intro/34:37), My Life (11:30), Carousel Ride (22:50), the Middle (25:00), Shake Me Around (26:00), Young and Old (26:45), On the Ground (34:04), Hey Everybody (37:06) Moon Tooth: Crux (37:20), Omega Days (42:13), Rhythm and Roar (45:03/46:03), Raise A Light (Epilogue) (51:28), Awe at All Angles (53:51), Trust (54:37/58:00) Drinks in episode: Svend - Woodford Reserve, Captain Dynamite by New Belgium David - Old Rasputin Russian Imperial by North Coast Brewing Company
Buckle up your big person britches…this goes all over the place. We only got through three submissions, but somehow listened to more music than ever before. Honestly we could write 10 pages of notes about this episode…but just listen to it. John takes a call from his sister, drops the news that Moon Tooth is recording a new record, takes a pee break (more than once), shows off records, talks about Orcs boning in Mordor. We deep dive into Serbian label LIBRARION’S catalogue because why not and we uncover PUSSEYDONE and some deeply disturbing Serbian death cult pop with sinister voices in the background. He also tells a story about accidentally putting a chair on top of Pound's tour van (he had no idea it was theirs)...so now we have a full-fledged Blynd Submyshynz shared universe.John also drops out a few times, but always comes back. John gives us the lowdown on one of his early bands Rice Cultivation Society (also featuring Nick Lee from Moon Tooth), and talks about Nick’s Band Exemption. Check the links below, but if you listen to Rice Cultivation Society and Exemption, Moon Tooth’s crazy mix suddenly makes sense. At the end of the episode we tacked on 2 full tracks: Trust from Moon Tooth’s latest LP Crux, and Blood Heaven from Exemption’s Public Cemetery Party. Stick it out…two killer tracks!Oh, and if you take only one thing from this episode, let it be this: if the government would only fund the arts like they do in other countries, maybe Americans will learn to f*ck better. In Episode 8 we interview Moon Tooth. If you haven't listened to them and you love hard catchy music, which we know you do you listen to DGD after all, this will be your new favorite band. Moon Tooth truly defies the concept of genre. You can hear influences from the Foo Fighters and Incubus to Mastodon. These guys are so talented and so creative we are so lucky to have a chat with them before they are selling out stadiums. In this episode we hit all the topics such as their approach to song writing, their new album, originality and their fearless approach to writing music about the issues that move them. I promise you will have as much fun listening to this as we did recording it.

Ever wondered what it would sound like if guys named Clint, Bryan, and Charles made a Covid-19 quarantine inspired instrumental album? If the answer is yes, boy do we have the show for you! If the answer is no, lets see if we can change your mind! The band is Sexbat, the album is Diurnal Curse and it is up everywhere you stream music. We take you sort of behind the music, if you will, where we talk about each track and then play said track. We are super stoked to put this album out and for people to hear it. There's something for everyone and a face melting solo from Nick Lee of Moon Tooth. Tune in and let us know what you think!
Another IT episode? That's right, two episodes dedicated to film adaptations in as many months. The legendary novel by Stephen King gets adapted much more competently in Andy Muschietti's very ambitious film series. If you are listening to this as a precursor to It: Chapter 2, fear not-- we announce when our discussion gets into spoiler territory. 2017 stars the magnanimous Bill Skarsgård as It / Pennywise, Jaeden Lieberher as Bill Denbrough, Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben Hanscom, Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley Uris, Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie Kaspbrak, and Chosen Jacobs as Mike Hanlon. Not only do we discuss easter eggs, nods to the books, and these actors' great performances, but we discuss the casting process for the sequel. It: Chapter 2 stars Jessica Chastain as the adult Beverly Marsh, James McAvoy as "Big: Bill, Bill Hader as Richie "Trashmouth" Tozier, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon, Jay Ryan as Ben "Haystack" Hanscom, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, and Andy Bean as Stanley "Slice 'Em Open" Uris. We discuss the film, our impressions, and where the franchise can go from here. Director, Andy Muschietti, is actively campaigning to do a supercut of both films combined, returning the deleted scenes, and even adding new ones. So yes, it is wholly possible that Slashers will do yet another episode on It... Beep beep. This week's "Hidden Track" is Moon Tooth with their song Trust. Welcome to Episode 26 of Tapestry! If you’re new to the show, thanks for checking it out. If you’re a storied listener, I hope you enjoy another interview. Today I had an on-the-road chat with Nick Lee and John Carbone, guitarist and vocalist, respectively, of Long Island-based “aggressive progressive” band Moon Tooth. They’re self-professed multiple-time World’s Sexiest Man nominees and legally, NOT werewolves… with lots of stories to tell. We go into detail about the conceptual link between their two albums, Chromaparagon, and Crux, and the changes that take place in the studio after an album gets written. Plus, stay tuned to find out which author John has paid homage to in a Moon Tooth song.
WOW! Jam packed show this time ladies and gentlemen! We do a recap of the Sonic Temple Music Fest which was a fantastic time and one last thanks to them for the tickets and experience. Then we dive right into a conversation with Shapel Lacey, a comedian who performed at Sonic Temple. Cool stories about the people he met, how one becomes a comedian, and Bryan asks him apparently the worst question you could ask. Yes there's more... we then catch up with Moon Tooth's guitarist Nick, who has been on the show, but this time in person! We sit down and bullshit over a couple beers about how the tours going and get into some meanings behind some of the songs off of their latest album Crux. Huge thanks to both guests for their time and a special thanks to Moon Tooth for letting use their new single Musketeers. We have a beauty of a show for you this week! Clint sits down in a quiet nook (aka his car) to have a very laid back and insightful conversation with Colin from Amenra. Colin's take on every aspect of what they do is refreshingly different and all around just flat out interesting. Nothing but thanks to Colin and Amenra for letting us use their song A Solitary Reign off of their latest album Mass VI and Stephanie for helping us coordinate the interview. http://amenra-official.tumblr.com In news we talk about Devin Townsend digging deep into his pockets for his latest album and Marilyn Mason's drummer quits (I see a theme here). We review Ola Englund's solo album Master of the Universe but (spoiler alert) the new Moon Tooth album Crux steals the review spotlight by far! Holy Mother of Metal!! We got ourselves a jammed packed episode this week. Consider this a Double Feature "Creature Feature" as we present not one but two kick ass interviews. First up is the return of Misery Index axeman/voice Mark Kloeppel. With the new album "Rituals Of Power" still fresh on the racks, we got Mr. Kloeppel on the horn. We go deep into the new Seasons Of Mist album and he catches us up the band's side projects. As well, "aggressive progressive" metallers Moon Tooth are making major waves themselves. With good old fashioned rock'n'roll elbow grease, MT have carved out quite a following. So it was a good time to sit down with vox John Carbone and get the 411 (plus a surprise cool cameo!). In our "News, Views, and Tunes" we congratulate the mighty VoiVod in their Juno win, discuss the (non) value of Joe Average's record collection, and pay tribute to Thrasher editor Jake Phelps. Musically, we crank the latest from our guests plus new stuff from Wormwitch and Vile Creature, ACXDC, Psychroptic, and the legendary Assuck! Double Horns!!

March 29 will see New York's Moon Tooth release their second full length Crux on Modern Static Records. To say it's hard rock with metal armor is putting it lightly since the band shifted their trajectory a bit from 2016's progressive leaning Chromaparagon and opted for some of the most hard charging, arena ready rock they've ever done. It's aggressive and memorable, two things that rarely go together these days but Moon Tooth nails it. Just ahead of the album's release, guitarist Nick Lee took some time to chat with our own Josh Stewart about the new album, a current tour with one of the album's producers Mark Morton, lessons learned, solid advice for any new band, and all manner of other things Crux-related. We now present that conversation to you. Jump on in and take a listen! 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
Guitarist Mark Morton recently put out an ambitious solo album, Anesthetic, which features a ton of notable guests: Mike Inez of Alice In Chains, Myles Kennedy, Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, Mark's Lamb Of God bandmate Randy Blythe, and the late Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, just to name a few. Mark is taking the new material on the road and stopped by the MMR studios before his show at Underground Arts in Philly. He talked with Sara about his history with Philadelphia, how it felt to step on stage for the first time to play these new songs, the diversity of sounds on Anesthetic, being a part of Slayer's farewell tour, when we'll hear new music from Lamb, and a lot more. See Mark Morton TONIGHT (3/14) at Underground Arts with Light the Torch and Moon Tooth - some tickets remain. You can also catch Mark on tour with Lamb of God this summer supporting Slayer; they'll be in Camden on 5/24. In the meantime, pick up Mark's new album HERE!
After a week off we catch up with Nick, the guitarist of Moon Tooth! We talk about Muppets, sword fights, guitar gear, upcoming tours (one of which in support of Mark Morton of Lamb of God)... oh yeah and their new album Crux due out March 29th! Huge thanks to him for taking the time to talk with us and thanks to everyone in Moon Tooth for allowing us to use their song Trust off of said album in this episode. Find them and the video for Trust below. In the news we talk Dave Mustaine's affinity for the martial arts and talks of a new Guns N' Roses album. We talk about the new Mastodon and Skeletonwitch tours and review the new album from Herod titled Sombre Dessein. We wrap up the show with some rants and raves about what the Grammys got so right and also VERY wrong! https://moontoothny.bandcamp.com Moon Tooth's Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vP0D3oVfOxc Shout out to our new sponsor Sonic Temple Festival, more exciting news about that coming soon.... Welcome to this weeks episode of Heavy Metal History. My guest this week is Nick Lee, guitar player of New York based band Moon Tooth! Nick's intriguingly unique guitar playing style struck me immediately upon hearing the bands 2016 release “Chromaparagon” and if I had the podcast going back then I would have had him on immediately. But here we are two years later and the stars aligned with Nick coming on the podcast to discuss the bands upcoming release “Crux” Nick and I discuss working with Mark Morton from Lamb of God as well as “Machine” aka Gene Freeman for the pre-production work on “Crux” we discuss many other topics like his guitar playing, his early metal influences and the history and beginnings of the band Moon Tooth! The word “Crux” is defined as the “decisive or most difficult point of an issue.” The album ‘Crux' tells the story of the band at this crucial point: where the past must die so new life can begin. ‘Crux' is due out early 2019 on the soon to be launched, Modern Static Records. Official release date and pre-order info TBA very soon. Follow Moon Tooth on FACEBOOK / TWITTER / BANDCAMP
Troy and Randy play a new game called "We Got You Covered". Before recording the show, they each provided the other with ten songs. The object, come up with three bands/artist to cover each song. The person who gave the song, has to choose who they want to do the cover from the three bands/artist presented. Songs like, Fire and Ice (Pat Benatar), 10 Seconds to Love (Motley Crue), Stranglehold (Ted Nugent), Lack of Communication (Ratt) and many more made the list. Do you agree with Randy and Troy and the groups the picked? Out of New York, comes the band Moon Tooth on this episode's music showcase. A really heavy aggressive band with a very cool prog sound going on. Imagine The Who meets Motorhead meets Anthrax meets Dream Theater, because that is Moon Tooth. They know how to really bring it.
