Fur prices are in the tank. Perfect! There's never been a better time to hunt raccoons. Populations have boomed, they are plentiful, and these callable critters are fun to hunt. Mark Boardman, Erik Barber, and Ryan Muckenhirn aren't professional coon hunters, but they share what they know in this podcast and make a pact to chase coons together before the season ends. Additionally, just because you're not selling fur, doesn't mean you can't put it up for personal projects. And if handled/cooked properly to a safe temp of at least a sustained 165°, some folks swear they are pretty dang good on the table. Akin to pork in many ways. Tune in and give it a try yourself. I'm so excited about this this week's podcast! In this episode, you'll hear a live coaching call with Kristen where we use IFS (Internal Family Systems) to get to know some of the parts in her eating system. Kristen graciously agreed to volunteer for this session, and as you'll hear, she had some "aha" moments. When we began the session, Kristen mentioned a polarization between a "Diet Wrecker" part and a "Health Conscious" part. We got curious about this and began with the "Diet Wrecker" part. Kristen discovered some things about this part that she hadn't known, and it completely changed how she viewed this part. We were also able to meet (and unburden) a part that this "Diet Wrecker" was protecting. This session was such an amazing example of the power of IFS, the model that I use with both my coaching and therapy clients. Kristen left the session with a much better understanding of why she was turning to food, and the part of her that was frustrated about her eating was much calmer. She was also able to let go of a painful belief about herself. Yes, IFS can be truly miraculous. So please check out this week's podcast here, and hear the magic for yourself! The Gwinnett Stripers have added new seafood dishes to the menus at CoolRay Field, as well as other menu items, to reflect its fish-themed name and logo. The change was initiated by Coolray Field Chef Jamerius "Chef Jay" Sims, who noticed a lack of seafood items in the stadium's eateries. The three new seafood dishes include catfish baskets, fish tacos, and crab cake sandwiches. Other new items on the menu include Cuban sandwiches, home-brewed sweet tea, buffalo chicken philly, walking taco, blooming onion petals, and more. More than 130 students recently attended the Olifer Math Competition held at Georgia Gwinnett College in honor of the late Dr. Andrei Olifer, a mathematics professor who founded and organized the competition. Olifer's daughter, Maria, said her father wanted to inspire an interest in math, education, and learning, and the competition serves as a fun and engaging way to accomplish those goals. The Olifer Competition is open to students from first through 10th grade and continues to grow in popularity. Gwinnett County Public Schools Superintendent Calvin Watts will remain in charge of Georgia's largest school system through at least the end of June 2025, the county's school board decided Tuesday night. The school board voted 4-1 to give Watts a two-year extension on his contract, which had previously been set to expire this summer. Board Chairwoman Tarece Johnson cast the lone vote against extending Watts' contract. After the called meeting, Watts told reporters that he is "ready to continue to stay laser-focused on the academic, the behavioral, and the social well-being of each and every student" in the district. He sent an abridged version of his comments to parents and GCPS employees on Tuesday evening. To help parents and kids with food and all the fun of culinary medicine we bring you, once again, Chef Dr. Mike. As you learned last week, he is a board-certified interventional cardiologist, professional chef, and Professor of Culinary Medicine at The University of Montana. His children's book, coming soon (see a pic of him below)—is an offering to parents and their kids to help them relate to fun characters who teach positive messages about food rather than kids adopting ‘brand loyalty' to companies who produce food that is dangerous to our bodies. A bonus in this segment: studies from Harvard show cooking healthy food one night a week affects kids food choices into adulthood.1:05: There's an adventure-bound fairy!—to the King and Queen, no less.2:55: Brand loyalty….to processed food.6:30: The annoyance factor…yes, our kids are exactly that in a grocery store and some food producers and marketers use it to their advantage.7:40: Nurture your kids as they cook with you.See more about Chef Dr. Mike's children's book:www.joyoffairies.comTo help your heart burst with flavor, and much more, you can find out more information at www.ChefDrMike.com P.S. This episode of the Female Athlete Nutrition podcast is a special Rise Up Nutrition Round Table discussion between my team and I. Our conversation is full of fun food stories and tangents from myself, my partner in crime and fellow R.U.N. dietitian, Jenna Stranzl, and my assistant and podcast producer, Ruby Wyles. Ruby shares her passion for nutrition, speaking to how her own experiences with eating disorders drive her to help others, as well as being a Division 1 student-athlete looking to optimize her performance and recovery. We start by discussing some fun food stories, reminiscing about nostalgic childhood comforts and family favorites. Beginning with Jenna sharing about her mom's macaroni salad, we compare olives and pickles, before going off on some wild tangents about sea cucumbers. Family food memories often center around holiday celebrations, meals out and dishes made by others. For a lot of our clients and individuals struggling with their relationship with food, these times can be incredibly anxiety provoking as they feel less in control of their nutrition. We emphasize the importance of framing these occasions beyond the food: social connections and avoiding isolation. Sharing some more fun food stories, including a discussion on organizing a refrigerator, we speak about how encountering lots of food options, such as at buffets, schools/ college and group meals, can be paralyzing but also empowering. We advise listeners just to do their best navigating these situations, have self-compassion and to seek support from a dietitian. Even as professionals in this field, we're not immune to societal messaging about appearance and activity. We speak to cultural pressures for professionals like dietitians and athletes to look a certain way and train, for new moms to “bounce back” and lose weight, and for all women to conform to norms. We openly talk about where we're at with our bodies, stereotypical beliefs we've overcome, and arriving at a place of acceptance, free from trying to change our bodies through diet and exercise. We remind listeners that our appearance does not define our identity, value, fitness or health: “fit” has no look and health can be found at every size. This week the 14850 Dining Report is up in Trumansburg, enjoying fun food and drink at Atlas Bowl. This bowling alley on Main Street reopened late last year, and beyond bowling they have a full service bar and fantastic bistro menu. Lots of bowling alleys have bars, and some even have food, but it's more common to see pitchers of domestic beer, some hot dogs, and maybe nachos. Atlas Bowl steps it up to bistro levels, maybe even gastropub, with delicious and beautifully presented food made to order that should fit just about anyone's dining needs https://www.14850.com/021524154-atlas-bowl-review/ Subscribe to the 14850 Dining Podcast in iTunes or Google Play, RadioPublic, Spotify, or RSS Feed, or follow 14850 Dining on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter or sign up for our newsletter.

Hi! I'm Donna Reish, IF teacher, weight loss coach, blogger, and half of "The Minus 220 Pound Pair" as my husband and I have lost over 220 pounds together (160 of that in the past couple of years through the Weight Loss Lifestyle habits and strategies I teach!). In this episode, I present second part to Stress---this one offers some solutions! (Check out Part I where I tell the effects of stress on weight, stomach fat, cravings, and more! Think-Feel-Eat #36!) https://donnareish.com/think-feel-eat-episode-36-stress-cortisol-and-weight-management-part-i-of-ii In this episode, I first review stress and cortisol and what happens in the body when cortisol is released too much/too often/too long due to stress. Then I move into the big picture look of stress and cortisol, including: -Developing a life plan that helps you controls your stress (including looking down as an observer of your life, developing habits, building incrementality, convincing your brain that you are creating a stress plan, and more!) -Understanding stress eating (what I call “Frenzied Food” in the 4 F’s of Food Types—Fuel Food, Fun Food, Frenzied Food, and Fog Food) -Setting yourself up for food success with barriers, substitutions, and interrupting the stress eating pattern. Then I move into specific practices that can help us control stress and excessive cortisol release, including sleep, mindfulness/meditation/breathing, exercise, yoga, laughter, nature, and music. In this episode, I present the introduction to the Perfect Storm of Weight Loss. In this episode, I continue to teach about creating your Eating Protocol for the Perfect Storm of Weight Loss starting with a review of the Perfect Storm and how all three aspects of the perfect storm are interrelated. I then remind us what we already know about a strong eating protocol: what we eat affects how well we can stay on our protocol; habits affect how well we can stay on our protocol; our thoughts affect how well we can stay on our protocol. We also know that fasting and deciding ahead of time help us stay on our protocol. I use the mantra “Don’t take a bite until I write” every day. This means that I can’t eat anything until I have decided what my two meals will contain—right down to the time, the amount, the types, etc. while prioritizing protein and not exceeding what my body needs in order to either maintain or lose (depending on goal). Our protocol will help us succeed when… a. It is food we like b. It gives us a metabolic boost like protein does. c. It is low on junk food d. Put big rocks in your jar first---your real foods, your satiating foods, your protein, etc. e. It gives us fiber---Fx3= Fluffy, Fibrous, and Fluidy Next I went into detail about the Four Food Types: Fuel Food (80% each day); Fun Food (20% each day); Frenzied Food (want to avoid), Fog Food (want to avoid). I describe how to divide up your food into the 80/20—and how to avoid Frenzied Food and Fog Food. We must decide ahead of time what we are eating—and we must fill 80% of our foods with FUEL foods. We must plan our 20% of Fun Food each day and be sure that it isn’t Fabulously Fun Food (too high dopamine spike, too calorie dense, save for special occasions only). Check out past episodes in order: https://donnareish.com/perfectstorm Watch episode here: https://donnareish.com/think-feel-eat-episode-15-four-food-types-and-the-80-20-food-rule/ See full article here: https://youtu.be/lLv4VYXHlaE Watch new episodes live in free private FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/318664198605086/ See Index for my other broadcast, Weight Loss Lifestyle (formerly Donna's Intermittent Fasting broadcast) here: https://donnareish.com/intermittent-fasting-journal-index/ See index for Think-Feel-Eat Videocast/Podcast here: http://donnareish.com/think-feel-eat/ Check out my Intermittent Fasting Course: https://iintermittentfastingcourse.com Free Intermittent Fasting Start Up Charts: https://donnareish.com/daily-intermittent-fasting-start-up-charts/ DISCLAIMER: This is an intermittent fasting support group, blog, podcast, and/or course. Roger Anunsen (co-founder of MINDRAMP) recently invented a virtual activity for Senior Living Communities called The Mystery Dish. It uses in-room food service to conduct an engaging guessing game about food that can involve everyone in the community. The idea is now being tested, in association with Executive Chef Darin Leonardson, in a number of communities. The Mystery Dish reminded Roger of two other food-based activities he invented as part of his research validated activity program called MemAerobics. All of these food-based ideas promote sensory acuity, mindfulness and fun.

Step 1: Thoroughly sauté the onion and the garlic in a large pan with a lip of 1 inch or more, as the rice will expand several times over throughout the cooking process. Step 2: Once the onion and garlic are cooked, add the rice and lightly warm it before adding in the liquid (cook at medium/medium high, depending on your stove). Step 3: Over the next 45 minutes, gradually add in the stock and the water, as well as the optional white wine. Stir the risotto every minute or so. The key to all this is patience. You want the risotto to be creamy but not mushy*. The nice thing is that in between stirring, you can prep your veggies and the lemon bean salad. Step 4: After 45 minutes or so, your risotto should be ready to season. Add salt and pepper to taste. You can always add more olive oil or more white wine, depending on your flavor preference. Step 5: After the risotto is fully cooked and creamy, stir in in the greens and lightly wilt them, then remove the risotto from heat. Step 6: Serve the risotto on plates or in shallow bowls. Sprinkle the other veggies on top (cheese could be added for a richer, non-vegan version). Serve with my lemon bean salad (see below). *Visit bonappetit.com for risotto cooking tips. Heidi’s Lemon Bean Salad For the salad combine the following ingredients in a medium-sized mixing bowl: • 2 cups of fully cooked, cooled beans (chickpea, butter, navy, or kidney) • 2 cups of cooked, cooled corn (sweet corn is best) • 1 generous handful of chopped chives or green onions • salt and pepper Dressing • the juice of one lemon (add the zest if you want an extra lemony salad) • 1 tbs. of red wine vinegar • 1/8 cup of olive oil, or a light oil of your choice • Optional: a drizzle of light agave nectar if you desire a sweeter salad Taste your dressing first, then combine it with the bean mixture. Let these marinate in the fridge, as this salad is best when it has had time for the flavors to mingle. After it has cooled, taste and add additional salt if needed.
