Send a textBarristan Selmy takes stock after the departure of Daenerys on Drogon. As Hizdahr cements his power, the old knight is forced into plots that he hoped he'd left behind. Simon and Mackelly egg him on.Chapter Review:With Queen Daenerys Targaryen still missing, Ser Barristan Selmy is informed by the seneschal Reznak mo Reznak that King Hizdahr zo Loraq no longer needs him by the new king's side. Selmy is fine with that. He's short of friends right now, with Daario and company still hostages of the Yunkai'i, but Missandei tells him that a masked Brazen Beast approached her to say that the Shavepate (Skahaz mo Kandaq) wants to meet with Selmy. He doesn't trust these masked men, but he agrees to the meeting.Barristan is convinced that Dany lives. She was riding Drogon like the Targaryens of old. But also like the dragons of old, the body count can get out of control. More than 200 burned to death at the fighting pit. He reminisces about his early life and bemoans that he is now engaging in the plots and schemes he hoped he'd left behind in King's Landing. He meets with Skahaz who wants rebellion. The Volantenes are coming to re-enslave everyone. The peace treaty is a sham. Worst of all, it was Hizdar's confectioner who poisoned the locusts that had incapacitated Belwas, but the target was the queen. Selmy wants proof and if he gets it, he'll help Skahaz with his plans. Send a textCersei makes the only play she can. She wisely confesses to most of her crimes, that have already been verified by other witnesses anyway, but denies the big ones. For those questions, trial by combat will determine her guilt. Uncle Kevan reports wholesale changes in the Small Council. Mackelly and Simon weigh her chances.Chapter Review:Queen Cersei Lannister hates her jailors, three dour septas. But they break her down and she is ready to confess. She's brought before the High Septon. She admits to her infidelities, but denies the big ones: incest, treason, reicide, and deicide, all of which Osney Kettleblack implicated her in, under torture. The incest one is awkward for the High Septon. It is Stannis Baratheon's accusation and he has fallen in with a false god. He puts his faith in trial by combat to determine her guilt or innocence. She is finally allowed a visitor; her uncle Kevan Lannister. He's angry with her corruption of his son Lancel. And brings only bad news: Jaime has not returned, he was last seen cavorting the Riverlands with a woman believed to be Brienne of Tarth. The Tyrells and Tarlys have come to town to defend Queen Margaery, against whom the High Septon admits the case is weak. Kevan has assembled a whole new Small Council filled with nobody who cares for Cersei.Worst of all is the news that Myrcella has been wounded in Dorne. Cersei blames Tyrion. She asks Kevan to work with Qyburn to get the right man into the Kingsguard to defend her honor.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Cersei Lannister - Dowager Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Mother to King Tommen. The High Septon - Leader of the faith. Known as the High Sparrow for his piety and commitment to poverty.Kevan Lannister - Uncle to Cersei, new Hand of the King.Lancel Lanniser - Son of Kevan, former lover of Cersei. A Rare Glimpse at a Legend Before the Phenomenon In this newly restored 1996 conversation from Tony Tellado's original radio program — co‑hosted with Ernest Lilley — George R.R. Martin joins the show just as A Game of Thrones is beginning its journey into the world. Long before the global phenomenon, before the adaptations and cultural tidal wave, Martin speaks with the candor and enthusiasm of a writer who knows he's building something ambitious but has no idea how far it will reach. This archival episode, now presented on Exploring Humanity Through Sci‑Fi, offers a remarkable snapshot of Martin's creative philosophy at a pivotal moment in his career. Highlights From the Conversation
After delivering what possibly amounts to the most disgruntled eulogy of all time, Ebube summons Afam and Soonen through gritted teeth to talk about the loss that's currently hurting him the most, courtesy of this episode — he can't decide whether to love or hate Ira Parker, but stay tuned. They get into the tragedy of how the events unfolded and how it's partly a commentary on class warfare, before breaking down the story beats within the fight and the flashback, as well as the fascinating lore surrounding it. They discuss what's been lost, the significance of the episode's title, what the flashback really shows us about Dunk, and the fact that no good deep goes unpunished in the world of Game of Thrones. We'll all need some time to recover. You can support us hereAlso available on YouTubeHost: Ebube Ubochi Guests: Afam and SoonenProduction by: Ebube Ubochi

"How good a knight are you?"... Guess we'll find out.Ebube brings Bankole in to join the the guys for an incredibly fun roundtable and a lesson in the laws of gods and men, but frankly the real question here is how cooked Dunk truly is.Once Bankole recaps his own perspective on the show with a carefully curated list of "jokes", the guys deliberate on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to Baelor being the greatest Targaryen ever put to screen, Aerion being the kind of demon that's actually worth fearing, and Maekar living out all the stresses of fatherhood all at once. They also touch on the newest Targaryens revealed to us, discussing what Daeron brings to the table and what might be next for the baldest prince in history, all while trying to figure out what could possibly go right in a Trial of Seven. What even is that??!!!!You can support us hereAlso available on YouTubeHost: Ebube Ubochi Guests: Bankole Imoukhuede, Afam and SoonenProduction by: Ebube Ubochi

Welcome to Arlan's Anatomy, a show completely different from the one we signed up for, yet just as jaw dropping. After recovering from the episode's BOLD opening scene, Ebube, Afam and Soonen take a moment to acknowledge the firmly established rhythm of HBO's 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', and discuss how quickly — and effectively — the show is expanding its world. They share their thoughts on this era's crop of Targaryen overlords, what makes a great ruler, and why Dunk only has a chance at the lists, and with a certain tall lady, if he actually shoots his shot. Also, Afam also tries to convince the guys that Egg is secretly evil. You can support us hereAlso available on YouTubeHost: Ebube Ubochi Guests: Afam and SoonenProduction by: Ebube Ubochi
Well Star Wars fans can continue to argue, because Kathleen Kennedy stepping down certainly wont stop them. But something to stop to listen to, is George RR Martin telling all to the Hollywood Reporter. Plus, Fallout Season 2 is not falling behind season 1, people just don't remember how TV works. Ubisoft decided to lay a big one on the gaming industry by cancelling another Prince of Persia game, and Netflix wants to keep WB movies on the big screen if the merger goes through. That and more on this weeks episode.

Send us a textDaenerys hosts her conquerors, the Yunkai'i. Peace has cost her more than she can stomach. Mackelly and Simon sympathize with her.Chapter Review:Daenerys Targaryen attends a banquet thrown for the Yunkai'i to celebrate the peace. The accords hold, no re-enslavement, no more freeing of the existing slaves, but Daenerys is far from pleased that a slave market has been opened outside her walls - technically not in violation, but an obvious goad to her.To ensure a peaceful evening, hostages have been sent to the Yunkai'i, including Daario Naharis. Probably for the best because one of the envoys from Yunkai is Brown Ben Plum. He tries to smooth things over with Daenerys, but she's still bridling at his betrayal. She asks Barristan Selmy to make overtures to the sellsword companies, not believing that this peace can truly last. She takes Quentyn Martell to see the dragons, and urges him to go home. He wants to stay and fight for her. That night Hizdahr Zo Loraq drunkenly consummates his marriage and hopes for a son as he falls asleep. Daenerys has reason to doubt that his wish will be answered. The queen cannot sleep, tomorrow sees the unwelcome reopening of the fighting pits. She passes the small hours chatting with Missandei about sweet things. Characters/Places/Names/Events:Daenerys Targaryen - Last remaining descendent of the royal Targaryen line, Stormborn, Mother of Dragons, claimant to the Iron Throne of Westeros. Hizdahr zo Loraq - Noble of Meereen, husband to Daenerys.Barristan Selmy - Former Lord Commander of the Kingssuard in King's Landing. Current Lord Commander of Daenerys' Queensguard.Daario Naharis - Lover to Daenerys and leader of the sellsword company the Stormcrows. Quentyn Martell - Son of Prince Doran Martell. In Essos to offer his hand in marriage to Daenerys.Skahaz mo Kandaq (Shavepate) - Ghiscari noble of Meereen. Convert to Dany's cause. Despised by the Sons of the Harpy. This week the trio looked at 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' a prequel to Game of Thrones, on Sky and Now TV. It's based on three novellas by George RR Martin, telling the story of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell).Next, the long-awaited 'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' on Paramount +, which is a new spin-off of the beloved sci-fi franchise currently celebrating its 60th anniversary. Finally, 'Agatha Christie's Seven Dials' - a new adaptation of the novel, The Seven Dials Mystery, by the Queen of Crime. The three part-drama on Netflix takes place after a lavish country house party ends in murder. Bundle Brent (Mia McKenna-Bruce) and Superintendent Martin Battle (Martin Freeman) set about solving the case. Ever watched an episode of TV that felt both like a warm hug and a brisk bucket of ice? Like a song of ice and fire perhaps? Well, you certainly have if you've seen this one!HBO's brand new 'Game of Thrones' spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', is finally here and the squad is stoked to be back in Westeros. Ebube summoned Afam and Soonen to discuss the great new frontier this show represents for the Game of Thrones brand, the context it has the potential to provide for the two George R. R. Martin adaptations that have already premiered, and the fact that this is bound to be a fun ride. They also praise the production design and costuming, as well as the stellar performances, shouting out the two incredibly charming leads — Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell — and how everything on screen comes together to kickstart a journey that might just be a welcome departure from the status-quo.You can support us hereAlso available on YouTubeHost: Ebube Ubochi Guests: Afam and SoonenProduction by: Ebube Ubochi
Ready for an adventure? HBO certainly is, so we might as well strap in too. With 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' just around the corner, Ebube and Soonen start by delving into why HBO's brand new Game of Thrones spinoff will feel familiar, but different in all the right ways. They explain what a hedge knight actually is, and point out some of the ways this show will add some much-appreciated context to what casual viewers might know about the George R. R. Martin's colossal epic. They also explain why no prior knowledge is required, as this show is expected to be among other things, a great hang. You can support us hereAlso available on YouTubeHost: Ebube Ubochi Guests: SoonenProduction by: Ebube Ubochi
This is the recording of my presentation at the Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association 2011 conference, applying Aristotelian moral theory to reading George R.R. Martin's series Song of Ice and Fire. In it, I argue that Martin articulates a essentially neo-Aristotelian view of human nature, characters, development, ethos and moral qualities, referencing selected events, characters, dialogues, monologues, and decisions from the narrative, I focus upon four aspects of a neo-Aristotelian view of moral life, character, and discourse, namely: community as sharing (koinonia) but also locus of conflict over moral qualities and judgments motivational interplays between interests, desires, loyalties, and common goods ethos reflected in both individual characters and houses characters' choice and development as matters of better or worse practical reasoning towards and about the variety of human goods. Simon and Mackelly throw some rice in celebration of the new couple.Chapter Review:Lord Commander Jon Snow waits with Alys Karstark as Melisandre prays to R'hllor. Jon notices that his top ranking brothers are not in attendance. Eventually, Melisandre asks who is to be wed. Jon escorts Alys to her groom Sigorn, the Magnar of Thenn. The pair say their vows, jump a ditch of fire, and it's done. As the guests make for the feast, Jon talks to Melisandre. She tells him she still sees danger in his future. Jon is skeptical. She foresaw his sister Arya arriving and it was Alys. Melisandre insists the vision was clear, it was she who misread it. She is human.Next, Jon stops at the ice cells. Jon suggests Cregan Take the Black before King Stannis arrives and executes him as a traitor. Never, is Cregan's response. At the feast, Jon tells Alys to send her old men and boys to the Night's Watch rather than let them die when winter comes. She promises that House Karstark remembers. A letter arrives from Eastwatch, the ships have finally set sail for Hardhome and the stranded wildlings. George R.R. Martin has said that, as much as he respects Tolkien for basically creating the modern Epic Fantasy Genre, he has intentionally done things that go against his way of storytelling. Why? Because they do not fit his philosophy. With help from Inspiring Philosophy's video "The Philosophy of Tolkien," Daniel wants to go on, using Martin's own words, to further describe the distance between these two authors. You may have been taught to read texts with an eye for their literary and symbolic structures in English courses in high school and/or college, but rarely is this taught to seminary students or lay Christians alike when it comes to the Bible. Come along with us on our journey to reread your bible for the first time. We hope that through the words of those who have come before us, we can give Western Christianity its imagination back.
At the start of a new series, Daniel will be exploring the work of two prolific Fantasy writers: 1. JRR Tolkien. 2. George RR Martin. Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings have had a distinct cultural impact, but they also offer a window into the worldviews of the men who wrote them. This is what Daniel wants to explore. On the surface, GOT and LOTR may look quite similar, but that's due to an inability to see. Daniel's central question: How does the philosophy of two very different men produce vastly different worlds? Send us a textTheon continues to wander Winterfell. A fact that is noted when men start being found murdered. His worthlessness proves to be a sufficiently strong alibi. He is once again propositioned by Abel's women. Simon and Mackelly consult their IP lawyers.Chapter Review:Theon Greyjoy continues to haunt Winterfell, and Winterfell returns the favor. The blizzard rages on, making the living conditions increasingly intolerable. Ropes are strung between the buildings to prevent people from getting lost. Men start turning up dead. The first couple are explained away as accidents, but the third is clearly murder. Furthermore, the newly constructed stable collapses. The great hall, already redolent of men and dogs, is now used to house the displaced horses. Another of Abel's women tries to befriend Theon, but he still senses a Ramsay trap and avoids her. He's dragged before Lord Roose Bolton, as he's one of the few people who wanders the whole castle, and therefore has the opportunity (and let's be honest, the motive) to sabotage the Bolton cause. His demeanor and physical decrepitude end any suspicion. A warhorn appears to herald Stannis' arrival and cause panic within the Walls. Theon, knowing that for him Stannis does not represent salvation, goes to pray in the godswood. There he is again haunted by his crimes, hearing his name and seeing Bran's face in the heart tree. Abel's women again accost him. They will help ensure that his prayers are answered, but only once he has spoken to Abel.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Reek - Broken shell of Theon Greyjoy.Ramsay Bolton - Newly legitimized son of Roose Bolton.
