Listen Now to Debra Giusti This week we had the opportunity to speak with Debra Giusti, known in our community as the “Creatrix of Transformation.” She is best known for founding the grandmother of West Coast festivals back in the 1970’s, Debra Giusti - Creatrix of TransformationThe Harmony Festival, showcasing the latest and greatest innovations of wholistic health, music, dance and art in the Bay Area until 2011. Since then she has been supporting many personal growth and tranformation events and people, many of which are linked to her website. We had the opportunity to work with her in creating video for the Saturday Night Alive internet TV series with Scott Catams, during the plandemic lockdowns, when much of the community was isolated and in need of more connection. She recently returned from an epic journey to Egypt, where she was part of a sacred mission to not just visit but activate the sacred sites in that country. What does this mean, ‘activate’? In our interview she speaks of unlocking the secrets of these mystical landscapes as well as other mystical adventures and projects with which she is currently engaged. Debra also discusses with us the massive consciousness change happening to our species, which she describes as an ‘ascension’ process. To further explain (beyond our interview) ‘ascension,’ Debra has created a free download called “Ascension Tips,” described as “a simple blueprint to support your ascension journey.” And if you specifically wish to know more about ‘Reactivating the Egyptian Sacred Sites’, check out her upcoming online event, “Egypt Reactivated.” Meanwhile, enjoy our interview with her!

Recycle Michael interviews Green Mary on Earth Day. Mary Munat "Green Mary" tells her story about getting inspired to make events Zero Waste. Mary Munat entered the waste diversion world from her position as Human Resources Manager with The Health and Harmony Festival in Sonoma County in 2001. There, working in the role of volunteer coordinator, she heard environmental activist Julia Butterfly Hill speaking on the urgency of all event-goers to heed their environmental impact out at public events. Green light bulbs went off. All systems aligned internally and socially to give birth to a local industry. Within three years, before “greening” was even a verb, Green Mary moved from one local festival to greening a dozen, to over 200 event-related dates in 2015. She helped shift the focus from recycling and throw away items to highly compostable food service wares, ensuring that everything that can be composted or re-used is diverted from the landfill. Most of the frustration, pain, and suffering that we humans experience is due to a lack of understanding about how to experience, manage, and express our emotions. What if you had a manual to release long-held feelings that no longer serve you? You're in luck. On this interview, I speak with Leadership Coach Joie Seldon about her upcoming book, "Emotions: An Owner's Manual". We discuss the profound value all emotions hold - even those we label "negative". We talk about the importance of business owners understanding how to navigate their own emotional terrain so they can effectively deal with conflict in their companies. Joie emphasizes that the result of this important work is less stress, more self-confidence, greater self-trust, and coming home to your true self. For 15 years, Joie Seldon, M.A. has been coaching and empowering executives and project managers at Fortune 500 companies, CEO’s, and entrepreneurs, to identify and quickly solve problems, improve employee engagement and reduce their personal as well as team stress. A master improvisation teacher, Joie was a professional actor, acting teacher and workshop leader for thirty years in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Improvisation teaches you how to think on your feet and deal with whatever is thrown at you, whether it’s a disaster or a sudden opportunity. Many people think that acting is a form of pretending. That may be the case when the acting is bad. However, great acting is the art of human behavior. It is the ability to be real. She has created numerous workshops that teach business professionals to how express themselves in authentic and compelling ways, whether in networking, public speaking, being interviewed or leading a meeting. Joie holds a master’s degree in Somatic Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. Somatic psychology has a scientific foundation that incorporates aspects of neuroscience, molecular biology and the autonomic nervous system. Her book, “Emotions: an Owner’s Manual” will be released next month. Jared Karol is on a mission to help mission-driven entrepreneurs develop and share their unique stories. As CEO and Founder of Storytelling for Good, he coaches business owners on how to develop their origin story then share it with the world. On this episode, he delves into why sharing your personal business story (on your website, social media, and at networking events) is the most powerful way to develop an emotional connection with your target audience. By authentically connecting with your ideal customers through storytelling, your business will attract and retain loyal clients. Grab a cup of tea and tune in to Jared's advice - learn why sharing your story is what will make your brand unforgettable. When Jared was 14, his father told him he was gay. This new reality totally changed the trajectory of his life. Growing up in 80s in the San Diego suburbs, homosexuality wasn’t a part of his existence. In fact, diversity of any sort––people, perspectives, cultures, ideas––was severely lacking. But things were changing, and his thinking was evolving. Visiting his father in San Francisco through his high school and college years exposed him to new ideas and a more expansive way of looking at the world. Over time, curiosity led him out of his comfortable provincial bubble, and he began to realize all that he had missed by growing up in a homogeneous environment. On September 29, 2000, Jared’s father died of AIDS. Shortly after, he moved up to San Francisco to immerse himself in a more socially conscious and diverse environment. Values such as empathy, collaboration, and inclusion became central to his world view, and he has applied them to his professional and personal life ever since––as a teacher, a writer, a parent, and a community member. He helps social entrepreneurs communicate the value of their business through storytelling and writes about diversity and inclusion in tech, education, and other industries. Most Solopreneurs love the autonomy and freedom they get from owning their own business but also crave collaboration and don’t want to do it alone. But, how do you create successful strategic partnerships? Tara Butler Floch, "the coaches' coach" shares her wealth of experience and knowledge on the different types of strategic partnerships and what to look for in a desirable business partner. On this episode, she dives deep into how to overcome obstacles to creating lasting strategic alliances and reveals her six-step plan to attract the right partner. Tara Butler, CPCC, PCC of Broadview Coaching is known as “The coaches’ coach”. She has been passionately committed to helping entrepreneurs launch and grow simple, joyous, and prosperous businesses since 2000 when she founded her own consulting and coaching practice. She has helped hundreds of clients create meaningful, sustainable, thriving businesses. As a coach herself, she witnessed many passionate coaches quit their full time job to launch their practice, only to put their dream on the shelf because they didn’t know how to build a successful practice and couldn’t do it on their own. Tara was first introduced to coaching in 1995 after hiring a coach in her first executive role at PhotoDisc where she ran their worldwide Sales & Service organization for 4 years. She found that it significantly impacted her effectiveness and execution, her personal and professional relationships, and her work/life balance. It planted a seed in her that sprouted into her own personal development journey. Sales at PhotoDisc grew to $150 million in her tenure before it merged with Getty Images, where Tara went on to have several Executive Roles (there and elsewhere) before realizing she wanted to merge her passion for business with her love of personal development and start her own consulting and coaching company. She thrives on helping others overcome obstacles and realize their highest potential. It drew her to become a Board Member of The Excellence Foundation, a non-profit organization that offers personal development programs, and later became their Executive Director for over a year. Stagedive is a podcast where musicians tell their stories, and their music brings them to life. The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne has multiple grammies and gold albums under his belt now, sure. But before he was a rockstar, worked at Long John Silver's for a decade. And the occupational hazards went beyond the odd oil splatter. Thanks so much to Wayne, The Flaming Lips, The Harmony Festival, and Snap Judgment--who originally ran this story.
It's been many years since I've DJ'd a Space Cowboy's party so I was thrilled to be invited to play their most epic event of the year. I've heard stories about Breakfast of Champions, but had yet to attend. I DJ'd Sea of Dreams the night before and was surprised how many friends of mine were just laying low and getting sleep on NYE so they were fresh & ready to rage at B.O.C. the next morning. When I arrived, the event had already reached capacity and the entire street was packed with dancing freaks! After getting my breakbeat on with Kapt'n Kirk out side, I went into Might and fulfilled another dream come true, played the main room on their legendary RLA sound system. I had a blast and the crowd was in full force. So much gratitude for Space Cowboys! - Zack Darling A little more background on this week’s guest... As long time North SF Bay native event producer and DJ, Zack Darling is well known as a highly effective mover and shaker. His DJ career spans over 20 years and began as a 14 year electro-punk DJ playing late night sessions on public and pirate radio stations in Mendo-fornia. He’s since dropped multi-genre-smackdown beats on night clubs and parties large and small, including Decadance, Space Cowboy’s Unimog, Mystic Beat Lounge’s Techno-Tribal Dance, as well as some of the biggest clubs and dance events in San Francisco, like 1015 Folsom, Temple, Sea of Dreams, Club Mighty, Kelly’s Mission Rock and many more. He also regularly plays within the festival circuit, including Burning Man, Burning Man Decompression Street Fair and Harmony Festival. Zack has played every year as a headliner at EarthDance Festival for a decade now, and in 2002 was the first electronic dance music DJ to play the main stage at Reggae on the River where he shocked the Humboldt rasta crowd with nu-skool ragga breaks. Musically Zack’s style is most difficult to classify as it spans a gamut broader than most dance floor DJs. His mixes are expressions of the alignment between Mashups and bass-heavy dance floor beats. Zack is moving forward into a style where he can follow all of his passions, old and new, merging Breakbeats, House, Dubstep and Mid-Tempo Hip Hop, with Reggae, New Wave, Folk, Funk, Soul and especially classic Rock favorites – remixed, retooled, repurposed for the dance floor. The emerging name for this unique musical flavor of bass-heavy dance floor bootlegs? Mashstep. Recently Zack launched the popular new website www.mashstep.com where fans of this sound explosion can saturate their spirits in bass-heavy dancefloor mashup wompers. Zack continues to feed the flames of the music community through his event production efforts. He is the lead producer of the Mystic Beat Lounge Techno-Tribal Dance, Associate Producer of Harmony Festival, North Bay Burning Man Regional Contact and co-founder of the cult-following nightclub event, Decadance. He produces many of the graphic art, posters and websites for the Northern California concert and festival industry via his Santa Rosa based company, Zack Darling Creative Associates which also serves as a central point for his event production endeavors.
