If we're being honest, fear of others thinking that we're self-promoting narcissists can keep us creating and marketing the book ideas on our hearts. You feel me? What's crazy about this is that we think that we're being good lil' humble Christians by NOT bringing our book idea to life and marketing it well, but in fact the exact opposite is true. Pop in dem earbuds and let's dive (pun intended) into this together. [WHAT YOU'LL HEARL:] How can you tell if a content creator is coming from a narcissistic head/heart space? . What's the saddest thing I see happening out there among other talented Christian writers? (AND: what can we do about it?!) . Is God really put off by our ambition? . What painful experience for 2 high school friends of mine made marketing a ministry for me? . How did a past student of mine end up creating the epitome of what she feared in her podcast? . What qualifies you as an Aquatic Specialist? . What happened when a past student was not honest with himself in his social media marketing? . What huge lesson around serving others with our content came from a recent petco experience? . What the flip is 'shadow work'? . Meg here! Our podcast has been on the air now for three months and we have stepped on some truly holy ground as folks have shared on the divine nudges that led them to serving others with their talents. As weeks go by, we realize that we have more left to learn about this medium--this artform--that we love so deeply. We were thankful that our friend (and Episode 4 guest), Aj Amyx connected us with a podcast guru named Chris Cerrone for an conference call to help us learn all of the stuff. On this conference call Chris pointed out that I was mistaken in my goal to interview like Oprah or Larry King, because podcasts are not overly-produced, formal shows. Podcasts are meant to be informal, vulnerable, raw and a lil' messy. After the call, Miranda boldly took Chris' advice, and suggested that we interview each other over a time when we lost our faith. I thought the idea was dumb. And I use the word ‘dumb' here to immaturity mask my true feelings, which were fear and discomfort. I disagreed with the idea, because I was uncomfortable with getting that real and weak. (Ain't nobody got time for that!?) But no matter how much I whined, Miranda stood her ground, convinced me that my ugly crying would not be seen through earbuds, and these “Rocking Chair Episodes: When Our Faith Was Rocked” are the fruit of her being right. Sometimes in sharing our hardest of stories, we help one another find healing. In my episode I share on my funky chromosomes and my issue of infertility. In this time of heartache, I wondered why would God put a desire in my heart for something I could not have? I share on the different weight the words “therapeutic termination” carry when it's about your body, and your baby and how it's hard to hear the doctor and genetic counselor tell you it's best while others in your social circle disagree. All in all, I share my realization of just how courageous the Holy Spirit can empower us to be during frightening moments, and my belief that most us (myself included) are stronger than we'll ever know. May this episode encourage and empower you, and may you be thankful that it's just an audio file so you don't see me ugly cry. And remember that God can bring forth light regardless of any darkness. Miranda Here! On this conference call Chris pointed out that we don't have to interview the BIG names, the people that are used to having their names in lights. Keeping it personal and honest is the way to truly connect. Podcasts are meant to be informal, vulnerable, raw and a lil' messy. After the call, I took Chris' advice, and suggested that we interview each other over a time when we lost our faith. Though Meg was hesitant, I persisted. And with some cake and hot beverages, we scheduled these interviews! Last year I went through the biggest breakdown of my personhood when I went through a divorce. All of who I was and who I thought I would be was questioned. But as Meg encouraged - “Sometimes in sharing our hardest of stories, we help one another find healing.” I still feel like God is healing me and the parts of my life that I label as broken. I share on the timeline of grief, or more of my desire for a timeline. You'll hear about the community that I leaned on, and the scripture that I grasped on to and haven't let go of since. You'll also get to hear the story of the commencement address that I HATED at the time, but turned out to be some of the best encouragement I've received. God's imagination and storytelling is better than our own. And to steal a benediction from Meg, “May this episode encourage and empower you, and may you be thankful that it's just an audio file so you don't see me ugly cry.” The Listening Chair is an outlet of the Institute for Discipleship (IFD). This episode is sponsored by the Timothy Circle.
On this podcast stories of all ages, stages and skill sets will be shared. Guests will share on how they live into the calling of being a beloved child of God, and on how they live out of this through their career/vocation. So if you are doubting what next steps to take towards a career, think you chose the "wrong" career, or are sick of people telling you that there is no money in that line work/ that the insurance plan would suck at that type of company/ or that that job does not exist, come on over and get cozy for a listen. Chances are that their stories will help you in writing yours. A fellow Texan, AJ Amyx (a life and business coach) walks Meg and Miranda through a medicine journey that he went on that brought him closer to God, as well as helped him work through a few barriers in his faith. He shares how hushing criticism is of the upmost imprtance in acheiving personal and professional goals. The Listening Chair is an outlet of the Institute for Discipleship (IFD)

Today's show is inspired by and dedicated to my business partner Aj Amyx and his great Facebook post last week. Here it is: "So many times as ENTREPRENEURS we WANT the vision we see and FEEL within ourselves created TOMORROW. I read these words from Lao-tzu this morning... Nature does NOT hurry, yet EVERYTHING is ACCOMPLISHED. The REALITY is this... You CANNOT make something GROW faster than it SHOULD. TRY and you WILL kill it. Where in your LIFE are you FORCING an OUTCOME rather than... SEEING it for where it TRULY is. Tell the TRUTH. ACCEPT the truth. Then maybe...just MAYBE... ...you can EMBRACE the reality and move FORWARD. A HARVEST is not reaped overnight. ACCEPT the stage of the PROCESS you are in. It's TIME...it's YOUR time...it's GAMETIME." -Aj

AJ Amyx, an online marketing expert, stopped by to share his thoughts with how building an online business can take you traveling and support you on along the way! His experience is all over the online world and he had some great advice with: Where to start, How to find a Proven Niche, and How to build an online presence!
Todays guest is a man with not just a unusual name, but a fascinating tale of how he has reached a place in his life where he seems totally at ease and loving everyday. Growing up in a tiny little town called Seven Points in East Texas for the first few years of his adult life he hadn't got into first gear. Studying Graphic Design at college, he didn't start setting the world alight. In fact I'm sure the only thing that he considered setting alight was the college. It didn't suit him, and he hated every minute. But he did what he had to do, and graduated before getting a job quickly in an advertising agency in Dallas. And looking back I am assuming he hated college as in many ways it supressed his free spirit. His desire to do things his own way. His need to be creative on his own terms. So fast forward to the evenings and like Bruce Wayne and his alter ego The Dark knight, our guest slipped effortless into his other role. That of guitar strutting rock god. Yes, he worked hard with his band, toured nationally, playing festivals, getting on the radio, and sharing stage space with some of the biggest bands of the day. And then it came to an end. His music career was no more. So what do you do when everything you have worked for comes to an end. Where do you go when you are at a crossroads in your life, and the dots that have led you to this point stop, and you are left with just your own vision of what life will be? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, the one and only AJ Amyx Dream Jobs, Online Courses, Persistence, Personal Trainer, Decision Making, Publicity, Young Entrepreneur, Freedom, Addicted, Shawn Stevenson, American Hustle, Make Money Online, Motivational Quotes, Expedition, Challenges, Steve Jobs, How To Start A Business, The Secret, Rich, Online Marketing, Time Management, Blogger, Videos, Recruiting, Authentic, Travel Blogs, Ultra Running, American Football, How To Make Money, Online Business, Company Culture, Law Of Attraction, Planet Money, Jobs, Video Marketing, Linkedin, Success Principles, Digital Marketing, Action Taking, Starting A Business, Successful Entrepreneurs, Personal Branding, Amazon, Lead Generation, Career Change, Life Planner, Comfort zone, Simplicity, Break The Rules, Book Launches, Personal Finance, Secret To Success, Business Plan, Health And Fitness, Tech Startup, Self Publishing, Entrepreneurs, Love, Career Path, Educational, Creativity, Selling, motivation, motivational, inspiration, confidence, success, freedom

Musician and rockstar turned Twitter guru and marketing strategist, AJ Amyx, joins us for a follow-up episode to teach us how to build relationships, a following, and your business using Twitter! For AJ, where it all starts in business is helping and inspiring others to pursue their passions. Many times we feel stuck in a job we’re not happy with, or simply unfulfilled with what it is we do for work each day, but it doesn’t have to be that way. A bridge that AJ found to quickly connect with people, join conversations, and build relationships (and ultimately customers) was Twitter. What’s unique about the Twitter community is that unlike most other social media platforms where conversations are private, Twitter conversations are intentionally public and when you join the conversation with something valuable to add, you are welcomed! One question that often comes up is how do I create meaningful, valuable content in only 140 characters? AJ’s recommendation is start to think like a journalist. View your tweets as headlines that are there to motivate someone to click your link to a longer article, post, etc.. Another common question that comes up is, since people are there to connect with other people, what percentage of the time do you weave in personal content or information? AJ’s tweets are about 5-10% personal (which are still related to his overall content strategy), and 90-95% his core content strategy. Next, we’ve heard a common theme over and over again, when it comes to establishing relationships with influential people in your niche, which is to GIVE first. On Twitter, that couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is share or retweet pieces of their content that you like! Direct messages, are they still relevant on Twitter? Absolutely! But, you have to use them in a genuine and “human” way. Nobody wants a spammy auto response direct message to go buy something, etc.. Using direct messages the way they were intended is a fantastic way to connect with people! As AJ points out, “It’s all about relationships.” And, Twitter is arguably the best social media relationship-building platform available. One of the biggest opportunities we see on Twitter is the ability to advertise. Historically, new platforms like Google AdWords and Facebook went through a period of coming into their own with regard to advertising. Twitter is approaching that tipping point. So, how do you get started on Twitter if you don’t have a lot of time? As AJ mentioned in his last episode with us, your graphic design is hugely important when it comes to how you and your brand are perceived. So, make sure you have good design, a good photo of you, a great bio, and start building a history of tweets with high value content. And, a final thought from AJ: “Figure out what is your stance, and then buy into it that you are literally born to liberate somebody.” That’s it! Go! Liberate! If AJ’s passion, tips, and enthusiasm has you fired up, please write us a review in iTunes telling us what you love about Life on Fire TV and leave us a 5-star rating. Thanks so much for subscribing! You’re a liberator!

Back to share some more marketing wisdom with us today is marketer and Twitter expert, AJ Amyx, to talk branding your social media and leveraging the “virtual real estate” the main social platforms provide! Virtual real estate? Yep! Your YouTube cover, Facebook cover, Twitter, and so on, those are all tiny little pieces of virtual real estate which you essentially own for your name or brand. Think of those as virtual billboards. When you think of it that way, it starts to make a lot of sense to advertise and create congruent branding across the various platforms, right?? One thing that often gets overlooked when we put our marketing hats on is that on social media people are still looking to connect with another human. So, put yourself in your brand. Use imagery where you’re looking them in the eye. Don’t have a huge budget for photography? AJ has a great tip! Seek out photography students at a local college. They often have access to high-end equipment and software, and would be happy to get paid anything at all to take photos! When it come to generating ideas, look to model other pages in your niche or industry you like and pull from the different styles you see to create something that is unique to you. We’ve quoted this before and we’ll probably quote it again, “In 2014, your graphic design matters more than your copy.” So, definitely don’t skimp in this area. And, one last idea you can consider is systematically changing your design. As an example, once a week we update our Facebook cover photo to highlight our newest “Firestarter of the Week”. Is there something in your business you could change or highlight on a regular basis?? If you got some great ideas from this episode, please write us a review in iTunes telling us what you love about Life on Fire TV and leave us a 5-star rating. Thanks so much for subscribing! You rock!
