Alex grew up loving and cherishing his local church family. As he grew in relationship to Christ, he sensed God was calling him to serve the global Church. In this episode, we discuss Alex's first steps serving his local church and then his first steps serving the Church around the world. With a summer in Birmingham serving at Oikos church and then a summer praying in new nations GEM is pursuing, we break down the lessons Alex learned. We then talk about the faith it requires to allow God's mission to be the focus of the church. “It is not so much the case that God has a mission for his church in the world, as that God has a church for his mission in the world. Mission was not made for the church; the church was made for mission – God's mission."― Christopher J.H. Throughout human history new parents had support with their newborns around the clock from their friends and family. Now, most parents don't have friends and family who are able to help overnight, and postpartum doulas are an option for nighttime support to help you get more rest. However, if you are a parent looking for someone who is knowledgeable and comfortable with nurturing biologically normal sleep and lactation then it's important you hire the right professional. In this episode, I'm joined by Alex King, a postpartum doula who exclusively does overnight support. We talk about what a postpartum doula is and how they are different from night nurses and newborn care specialists. We share some questions parents can ask to get a good sense of the doulas lactation knowledge and comfort with supporting normal sleep and an attachment-based approach to sleep. We discussed what some red flags and green flags might be to show where a doula is on the same page as them and where they may not be aligned. It's all about finding the right fit and as a parent, being clear about what you are looking for. Alex shares some of the ways her support helps parents create more of a set nighttime, helping circadian rhythm develop. And she reminds us that you are inviting a person into a very personal time and space so it's important that you are really comfortable with them. I hope this episode will give you some ideas if you want to hire a postpartum doula for nighttime support whether you are pregnant with your first baby or looking ahead to a second baby or more. About Alex Alex King is a certified postpartum doula in Los Angeles California who specializes in working with families overnight. This week, we're scratching The Itch for DOOMSDAY! The (mostly) Texas-based GORE. is one of the most exciting new bands in the metal world, and we were thrilled to speak with guitarist Alex King and bassist Devin Birchfield about their debut EP, A Bud That Never Blooms, out October 25th on Spinefarm Records. The fellas recount how they connected to frontwoman (and NASA engineer) Haley Roughton, their excitement about what's already next on the horizon, and the "emotional gore" that leads them to suspect that if their music isn't making you cry, they're not doing their job. Plus, of course, some major music nerdery in the Burning Questions section. These guys are going to the moon, so join us for lift off before their EP launches them to stardom. In this rendition of the Way Out I'm extremely excited to bring you my interview with person in long term Recovery and Producer and founder of Global Domination Productions Alex “King Roach” Montanez. Alex has been Recovering Out Loud with his Blog, Dominate the Glob since his Recovery began over a year ago and now he's Recovering Out Loud with us by sharing his journey to and through recovery to this point with us in a distinctly frank and compelling manner, and in a way that brings in stark relief hallmarks of addiction and alcoholism that are worth highlighting. Of particular import, is the common feature of active addiction that can be described as bargaining with ourselves, which we've discussed more than a time or two on this podcast. This is the act of restricting or changing the amount, frequency, type, environment, or manner of the problematic substance or behavior, which and this is key, invariably fails. As important to understand, is that we don't have to do this with other things we like, but don't have a problem with. It's the difference between liking strawberries, and being addicted to alcohol. As instructive in Alex's story is the manifestation of his Ego and how inextricably linked it was to his alcoholism. As he describes it, and so many of us can relate, alcohol was the key ingredient in perpetuating the persona he felt he needed to maintain, and without it, he was not able to be the person he wanted to be, and alcohol at the same time was destroying Alex and everything he held dear, which led to a crisis that ultimately produced perhaps an unlikely and most definitely an inspiring Recovery. An imperfect recovery that's a work in progress, but one that is proof positive that Recovery is worth every bit of effort we put in, and this phenomenal interview is worth every minute of your time so do be sure you listen up. We are so excited this week to have Parrish Gabriel and Matthew Rennick of Sicard Hollow joining us on No SImple Road!Nashville's psychedelic punk-grass rockers, Sicard Hollow, grew up sick of any existing institution telling them who and what to be. Now, as they navigate adulthood, they're equally tired of the music institutions telling them what their music should sound like—so they dunked it in patchouli and a skate-and-destroy ethos that brings an enduring sound into the modern age. Before the band met in 2018, none of the members ever considered playing bluegrass. Matt Rennick (violin) was working on electronic music, Will Herrin (mandolin/vocals) was playing guitar in rock bands, and Alex King (guitar/vocals) was barely playing music at all. After a few jam sessions, the bluegrass just kind of happened. Since adding Parrish Gabriel (bass) in the Fall of 2019, the band has been on a journey of self discovery within the genre while challenging themselves to make it their own.We talk with Matt and Parrish about coping with the realities of being on the road, the importance of having a network of friends and family that you can rely on when not touring, how it feels to actually be breaking genre molds with your music, Matt's side project 'Magec' and his personal struggles with mental health and what he's doing to keep his head on straight, Parrish's love of driving, and a whole lot more!Check out www.sicardhollow.com for all their tour info, merch, news, and more!No Simple Road Intro Music Created By ESCAPERFREE SHIPPING from Shop Tour Bus Use The PROMO CODE: nosimpleroadFor 20% off Sunset Lake CBD PROMO CODE: NSR20Make Sure to visit our friends at Fire On The Mountain for some amazing food at one of the 3 locations in the Portland area or one of the 2 locations in the Denver area!Check out the exclusive, limited edition SMARTWOOL / GRATEFUL DEAD collaboration HERE!!! I love that technology can allow me to chat in real-time while Alex King, guitarist/vocals with the progressive bluegrass band ~ Alex is on the Sicard Hollow tour bus, and gives insight into the band and their rise to becoming very established while not in anyway taking things for granted... Sicard Hollows recent crop of new albums are extremely enjoyable and filled with great and thoughtful lyrics. Short Bio: Sicard Hollow is a four-piece progressive bluegrass band who formed with a mutual passion for pushing the boundaries of genre. Heavily influenced by the Grateful Dead and New Grass Revival, these young pickers bring new energy to a timeless style with a combination of fearless improvisation and instrumental prowess.
