Kijk daarvoor hier!
This week on the RIPEcast, Space Cowboys welcome back Smoove to the Bay Area. Aloha Funkateers Back in Y2K era San Francisco, there was a trend amongst the uber cool restaurants where - as part of the dining room ambience - you would often find a DJ mixing live during dinner service. It was here, spinning vinyl all night propped up at the end of the bar, in this bastion of late 20th century California fusion cuisine I found my entrance into the fantastical wonderland that is the Bay Area DJ community. And it was here where I first encountered the Space Cowboys. The subsequent years featured a significant increase of the color orange into my wardrobe, Halloween undergrounds, a Unimog, breakbeats (so. Many. Breakz!) renegades in Golden Gate Park, that thing in the desert, decompression/recompression, Love parades, rhinestones, Martha, NewsBreakz, heartbreakz. And yes, a New Year's Day sunrise party. It was a glorious time to be alive So I think it's fitting my first time back at BOC in *this many* years was the 25th anniversary. I was hella psyched to be on this years line up because, if I'm being perfectly honest, I have missed you all. Spinning this set was a true joy and it was an honor to be back with the original crew. -Smoove

1. AMO F-15. El Fiat ruso. 2. GAZ AA. El Ford ruso. 3. 3HC: “3 Hermanos Comunistas”. 4. GAZ-51: El referente. 5. ZIS-150. Inspiración USA. 6. ZIL-130: “Best Seller”. 7. KrAZ-255. Muy moderno. 8. GAZ-66: Unimog a la “rusa”. 9. KAMAZ-5320: El primero de una estirpe. 10. Ural-4320: Ayudando a los norteamericanos. 11. BelAZ-75710: ¡Un gigante! 12. KamAZ-6560. 12+1. Tornado-U: Protagonista en la guerra. 14. KAMAZ-54901: ¿No te recuerda a Mercedes? 15. KAMAZ-4326-9 VK: El rey del desierto. Conclusión. Sencilla.

Good morning guests, Welcome to The Jurassic World Minute where we Visit Jurassic World one minute at a time. In this week's episode, David is on hand to dispense more marriage guidance tips, James reminisces about an Amazon (not the distribution company nor the archaic Volvo), and Charlie Watts is remembered. An attempted amphibious vehicle challenge hits a snag, so the lads decide to seek out Unimogs instead; the Vauxhall Cavalier appears before the Banger or Classic jury; pop songs in motoring commercials are (over) analysed, James waxes lyrical about the Suzuki Jimny, and David somehow refrains from dropping a broken piano on an MX5...
In this week's episode of Bangers & Classics, James spots a Unimog that may or may not belong to Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson, David wonders if there's a link between Nick Straker and UFO, and tribute is paid to Graham Robson. The Volvo 480 ES faces its moment of truth in front of the Banger or Classic jury – will it be on the receiving end of a clogging or will its pop-up lights come to the rescue? The Lada Niva is compared to the Range Rover, its erstwhile rival in (cold) war and peace, and remakes are discussed: will the lads come around to the manufacturers' way of thinking or is it the case that even Crayford Engineering couldn't convert them...
De Christian Schmit war op d‘Sich no ganz alen Exemplairen.

In this episode I chat to one of America's most well-know senior motoring journalists/car content creators, MotorTrend's Jonny Lieberman - you'll know him from his work on the mag but also videos like Ignition, Head 2 Head, Best Driver’s Car, and the World’s Greatest Drag Race videos on YouTube and Motor Trend on Demand (links below). Jonny Lieberman has been MotorTrend’s senior features editor for a decade. During that time, he’s written and made videos about every sort of car under the sun. From driving the one millionth Land Rover Discovery onto Red Square in Moscow, to nearly getting stranded on the side of a snowy volcano in Iceland inside a Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, to plunging a Mercedes-Benz Unimog into a frozen lake, to hammering a 5,000-pound Bentley Continental GT around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, Jonny has lived the car guy’s dream. We do talk about how he survived the Unimog in the frozen lake incident! Also there's a look back at his career, his top tips and advice for people wanting to get into automotive media, we talk about the cars he's currently testing, and we head into the difficult area of politics - tackling racism both in general and in relation to the automotive and media industries in particular.
Continuing our features exploring talent around the country, this week we're pleased to welcome a special guest mix from Chicago-based Duke Shin, resident DJ at WYA (Where Ya At?) CHI, Housepit Chicago and Vocalo Radio. Here's what Duke had to say about the mix: "My first encounter with Space Cowboys was on the playa in 2003. The theme that year was Beyond Belief, which is how I felt stumbling upon the mighty UNIMOG, deep playa, parked next to the Temple of Gravity--a 90 ton interactive sculpture featuring 5 gigantic stone slabs, mostly covered with happy climbing burners during the day. But this was latelate night, with a fire-pit underneath creating a warm shelter underneath the monolithic slabs, and a horde of dancers surrounding the UNIMOG and installation. I headed home for supplies and friends, and the sun was starting to rise as we pedaled back out. We found the UNIMOG by first hearing it, then zeroing-in on the cloud of dust from the dancers in that perfect Hi-RES-but-still-cool-on-the-playa magic hour of morning... you know it, yeah? Anyways, about this mix... new cuts and classic faves, from electro, techno, acid and house, perhaps a touch of breaks cuz RIPE. Thanks for listening!

Neugierig geworden? Dann gleich herunterladen und abtauchen! ******************************************************* Fotos und Links von Sabine und Burkhard findest du in den Show-Notes auf meiner Homebase: https://www.mady-host.de/podcasts.html +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Weitere Anregungen für deinen Ausstieg sowie amüsante Reiseerlebnisse bekommst du in meinen Büchern: https://www.mady-host.de/meine-buecher.html

Vehicles that rise to top form in extreme terrain have captivated with amazing technological feats for decades and have a dedicated worldwide fan base in their corner. Mercedes-Benz has no less than two of them. What the G-Class is in the passenger car sector, the Unimog is among commercial vehicles. And while the G-Class is celebrating its 40-year anniversary this year, the Unimog can look back on a tradition that spans more than 70 years. Enough reasons to bring both of them together for a summit.
Episode 1 gives you a look into our tastes and opinions on fun and classic vehicles. Instead of the boring old, "what's your favourite car," or "what's the fastest/most expensive _______," we have picked some categories that are a bit different! The categories are:a utilitarian vehicle;an affordable classic; and old skool performance. You get to choose a car, a bike or a truck to satisfy the three choices. However, once you've used up one choice for one category you cannot reuse it for another category! Our choices may be a bit odd, but welcome to The Clutch Basket Podcast!

This week on the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are featuring DJ Mancub with his live set from the recent Loveboat Halloween event. Here are a few words from Mancub: I love Halloween. Friday night at Love Boat was epic. It was not too crowded and I was able to spend time in each room without losing my crew. The Art and sound systems were on point. I really enjoyed myself this year. The night flew by and finally it was time for my closing set on Unimog stage outside. Murphstar had a full crowd on the dance floor before I started. I had spent a couple weeks working on my set and it all flowed nice!

Listener Feedback: I'm the guy who wants to run no spare rim but here is my story..... Buddy bought a set of "custom" beadlocks, they were trailready do yourself locks that were put on pretty nice rims. I don't even think he ran them before I bought them off him. There were only 4, I don't know what they started as and i'm normally a guy who wants a spare.... However getting a matching spare was going to be hard enough then there was the issue of new lock and installing it. I got thinking about the dead weight that wheel adds to my rig and money that getting another would take and decided that by building a square box that the 15" tire would fit over I could have storage space. B building it myself i'd be into it very little money, create more storage and still have a spare, seemed like a cool way to do it. yes swapping a tire on the trail wouldn't be the fastest way to do it but I'd ask to use someone else's spare if they had one that would work handy, then swap my good spare onto my rim when we got to camp or out. I do however carry electric impacts and this DIY kit allows me to push the tire right on by hand and not have to fight with a bead so breaking the back bead, taking off 18 bolts and putting it back together would be all it took to get it going. Yes time consuming but how often do most of us get flats on brand new tires? Id say not often enough for the work to be a frequent pain in the arse. As for the DIY, my jeep isn't my DD, but it's also not a trail only trailered rig. If it's just me and the fiancée going somewhere within an hour drive we take it. if dirt roads are involved I take it, and I always take it hunting. It def sees a lot of driving, I have a small shimmy at 45 that was there before the beadlocks and has increased a little now but other than that I have no issues. I do run dynabeads and did the dismounting with a buddy's tire machine then mounted myself and didn't have to worry about balancing due to the beads. I loctited all of the bolts and will maintain them and have no issues in my mind running them down the highway. This week we want to honor someone who recently passed away and brought so many smiles and so much joy to people's lives - Jon H of Fort Knox Five. The Space Cowboys have been honored to have Jon be part of our family and us a part of his. Thank you Jon for your legacy of music and everything you brought to our speakers, our parties and our lives. Keep it funky bother. This set was recorded live on the Unimog at Burning Man 2007.
This week's RIPEcast is a live recording* from the Space Cowboys Happy Hour on the Unimog taken from April 2015. * For your listening pleasure we removed the PA announcements in the middle of the set.
Well, OF COURSE we're going to do that. It's a full studio in this Garage Hour Reload, chock full of cars and trucks and beers and at least one gun. Do you like Evos? STis? Subie parking? 'Vette guys messing up their 'Vettes? Getting truck parts for Christmas? Kimbo Slice or Mike Tyson? Menacing people? How about a little Canoe Reeves and Nick Cage hate? Unimogs? Ford Fiestas? Ford selling Volvo to the Chinese? GM selling Hummer to the Chinese, and SAAB to Spyker? How about several reminders about not drinking and driving? Or perhaps you're just in it for the Hayabusa-powered Smart cars (which is totally understandable...). It's Hank Freakin' Watson's Garage Hour - have some.
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays in San Francisco... my chance to make new a costume and see the awesome creativity of our city. For those of you who weren't there on Saturday night of Ghostship, I played on the Unimog this year. Even though I was already standing on a box, you still couldn't see my head so I think I'm going to need two boxes next time so you all can see me! People kept telling me that all they could see was my blue feathered headpiece through the top of the Mog bobbing up and down while I was DJ'ing. I had an amazing time playing and it was quite a rush to have all the art cars surrounding the dancefloor! - shOOey About shOOey... shOOey has been a staple in the San Francisco dance scene since 2003. You can find her and her infectious energy at Space Cowboys events playing breaks and house. She also dedicated her time DJ'ing in support for non-profit organizations like SF Bike Coalition and La Casa de las Madres. If you don't find her on the decks, you'll probably find her on a bicycle. :D ★ FB fan page: facebook.com/djshooey ★ More ShOOey Soundcloud mixes: soundcloud.com/spacecowboys/sets/shooey ★ Follow her on Soundcloud: @djshooey ★ Contact: [info at djshOOey dot com] ★ Website: www.djshOOey.com ★ Space Cowboys: www.spacecowboys.org
Ghost Ship VII Asylum 2014 was as over the top as it gets! Two nights of amazing music, sick art installations, Thunderdome and thousands of freakish costumes. The Mog's heard a lot of DJs play a lot of music genres over the years, but there's one style that it always comes back to -- breaks. Yep, when the Mog made the bold decision to give up its profession as a gainfully employed radio truck and pursue its dream of becoming the playa's very first mobile DJ sound system, it did so marching to a broken beat. The year the Mog turns 40, and while it may be getting a little long in the sprocket it still hasn't lost its passion for fat nasty basslines with an amen! So to celebrate its birthday, I'm giving the Mog the next best thing to a pony. Here's 40 tracks (and a few more for good luck) of breaks, new and old, including many the Mog heard for the first time on vinyl back when it was rockin Technic 1200s in the DJ booth instead of CDJs. Happy Birthday Mog! - 8Ball For more information on 8Ball visit www.facebook.com/8ballxjoshdamon

Hope you've got room in your stocking for this last RIPEcast of the year. This week we've got Trav, live from the Mog at Ghost Ship 2013. About this mix Trav says: "Ghost Ship 2013 was another amazing production from the Space Cowboys, Sunset, and so many wonderful artists. I checked out the warehouse earlier in the day and saw the stacks and stacks and stack and stacks of speakers -- I don't think the Unimog has ever had so much sound attached to it! Thus, I decided to break out a couple deeper, bassier tracks with a hint of wubba-wubba to give those bass bins a workout. It was a real treat to play to such a beautiful, silly, fun, crowd. Thanks for having me, and PLUR on, ravers!"
We've got another incredible Ghost Ship 2013 mix for you on this week's episode of the RIPEcast. This round goes to Erik Hz, and he's serving up booty shaking tech house. About this mix Mr. Hz has the following words: "Party the World has ever seen. I think that it’s safe to say that now. Tickets are not cheap, and the reputation of the event, has lead our attendees to expect the best. This year’s event felt like we were really in the Big Leagues, the sound system I was to play on, was both exciting and intimidating (it broke two windows during sound check!), and I was on first. With all of that considered, I felt it was my responsibility to make good use of the big sound and play some music that would give the right start to the night. I had an amazing experience mixing this, and I feel like I got a lot right. By the time I stepped off the Unimog, the place was filled with Smiling Faces and the best party I have ever had the pleasure of being part of, was well underway. I hope you like it. Thank You for Listening."
I recently had the opportunity to be a guest host on the Autoblog podcast and it was a great time! Some experts predict car radios will go the way of 8-track and cassette players. According to preliminary data, the auto industry will meet CO2 emission targets, but not all OEMs. For all you off-road enthusiasts out there, Mercedes unveils its new Unimog lineup. All that and more, plus we take a look at a new bridge construction technique.
"Next to Burning Man itself this is one of the wildest parties on the planet. From the gigantic hangar packed with multiple sound areas, more than forty of the Bay Area’s finest DJs and performers, mind boggling art cars including the Unimog, two Silent Discos, and an enormous array of large-scale interactive artwork including an apocalyptic city with a giant flying saucer that did a live cow abduction, this was one party not to be missed. This year I was fortunate to be playing the main stage where the DJ booth was perched ontop of a massive wall of speakers over 15' tall by 25' wide! What better way to blow up an apocalyptic city than dropping some hard hitting bombs! So sit back and enjoy the ride!" - Sol If you want more check out DJ Sol's Ghetto Funk Decompression mix on his Soundcloud page: http://soundcloud.com/solsound/ghetto-decompression-mix www.spacecowboys.org Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com
This week our good friend from DISTRIKT, DJ Darren Grayson, makes his RIPEcast debut with this live recording of his set from the Unimog at Ghost Ship Apocalypse! "I was psyched to have my cherry popped with a first-sets-two-fer this Halloween - first time playing on the UNIMOG and first at Ghost Ship. This set kicked things off this year, and as usual it wasn't long until Treasure Island was rockin' full throttle. This is a tech house / progressive / techno mix, just the right vibe to suck you onto the dance floor and get you moving before dropping the hammer. Enjoy!" - Darren Grayson www.spacecowboys.org
"Ghost Ship Apocalypse was an experience I'll never forget. I've been lucky enough to play the last three years and the party keeps getting better. The production value and art were insane. I've got to give a shout out to my family in the Janky Barge for putting a fantastic room together yet again. I've always prided myself on being a shapeshifter, tailoring my sets to the party and the crowd, so when I found out I was playing on the Space Cowboys' Unimog, I thought I'd bring a little more of an old school breakbeat flavor to my set than one might usually find. It was especially fun to dig in the crates for classics like the Beat Assassins' remix of "Repeated Groove" and the Rogue Element's take on The Prodigy's "Girls." Those tunes, and some personal edits of "Rhythm Is a Dancer" and 2 Bad Mice's "Bombscare" really prove that dance music doesn't just have to be about the newest of the new." - Ground Control Jason Apple, aka Ground Control, is a San Francisco based bass music producer and DJ. It's been many years since I've DJ'd a Space Cowboy's party so I was thrilled to be invited to play their most epic event of the year. I've heard stories about Breakfast of Champions, but had yet to attend. I DJ'd Sea of Dreams the night before and was surprised how many friends of mine were just laying low and getting sleep on NYE so they were fresh & ready to rage at B.O.C. the next morning. When I arrived, the event had already reached capacity and the entire street was packed with dancing freaks! After getting my breakbeat on with Kapt'n Kirk out side, I went into Might and fulfilled another dream come true, played the main room on their legendary RLA sound system. I had a blast and the crowd was in full force. So much gratitude for Space Cowboys! - Zack Darling A little more background on this week’s guest... As long time North SF Bay native event producer and DJ, Zack Darling is well known as a highly effective mover and shaker. His DJ career spans over 20 years and began as a 14 year electro-punk DJ playing late night sessions on public and pirate radio stations in Mendo-fornia. He’s since dropped multi-genre-smackdown beats on night clubs and parties large and small, including Decadance, Space Cowboy’s Unimog, Mystic Beat Lounge’s Techno-Tribal Dance, as well as some of the biggest clubs and dance events in San Francisco, like 1015 Folsom, Temple, Sea of Dreams, Club Mighty, Kelly’s Mission Rock and many more. He also regularly plays within the festival circuit, including Burning Man, Burning Man Decompression Street Fair and Harmony Festival. Zack has played every year as a headliner at EarthDance Festival for a decade now, and in 2002 was the first electronic dance music DJ to play the main stage at Reggae on the River where he shocked the Humboldt rasta crowd with nu-skool ragga breaks. Musically Zack’s style is most difficult to classify as it spans a gamut broader than most dance floor DJs. His mixes are expressions of the alignment between Mashups and bass-heavy dance floor beats. Zack is moving forward into a style where he can follow all of his passions, old and new, merging Breakbeats, House, Dubstep and Mid-Tempo Hip Hop, with Reggae, New Wave, Folk, Funk, Soul and especially classic Rock favorites – remixed, retooled, repurposed for the dance floor. The emerging name for this unique musical flavor of bass-heavy dance floor bootlegs? Mashstep. Recently Zack launched the popular new website www.mashstep.com where fans of this sound explosion can saturate their spirits in bass-heavy dancefloor mashup wompers. Zack continues to feed the flames of the music community through his event production efforts. He is the lead producer of the Mystic Beat Lounge Techno-Tribal Dance, Associate Producer of Harmony Festival, North Bay Burning Man Regional Contact and co-founder of the cult-following nightclub event, Decadance. He produces many of the graphic art, posters and websites for the Northern California concert and festival industry via his Santa Rosa based company, Zack Darling Creative Associates which also serves as a central point for his event production endeavors. The respected and highly-esteemed, Bush Doctors, a.k.a Jem Panufnik and Rennie Pilgrem, are this week's guests on The RIPEcast. Our good pal, Jem Panufnik (a.k.a Jem Stone), is a true renaissance man: an accomplished Dj and producer, the co-founder of the world famous Fingerlickin' label and a talented illustrator (Fingerlickin is appreciated almost as much for Jem's artwork as for the label's cutting edge sound). As if all that weren't enough, Jem has recently added film and animation to his ever-growing list of artistic accomplishments. Oh, and that clever interpretation of The UNIMOG that we've been using as the artwork for The RIPEcast all year...yeah, we have Jem to thank for that too.... Rennie Pilgrem is equally accomplished in the world of dance music. Himself the founder of a hugely successful dance label, Thursday Club Recordings (now in its 18th year), Rennie is also credited for inventing the sound we know today as Nu-Skool Breaks. As you'll soon appreciate from their RIPEcast, Rennie and Jem as Bush Doctors are a truly unique concoction of funk, disco, house, breaks and a little black magic or "Voodoo Funk" as they like to call it. Enjoy Boys and Girls! If you see a plume of black smoke rising from the crossfader then you know Smoove (a.k.a. Ian Chang) just got off the decks. That was the case again last Saturday night at “Shackled”, a rockin' up-and-coming monthly at Shine Dance Lounge (http://www.shinesf.com), where Smoove provided the perfect climax to a fantastic party with one of his signature breakbeat sets. And guess who just so happened to be there to record it for your listening enjoyment? If you've spent any length of time in the San Francisco dance scene, Smoove needs no introduction. He's been igniting packed dance floors (and wearing out crossfaders) with infectious booty-shakin' beats for almost ten years now. But if you aren't from around these parts (or don't get out that often) here's a little more background on this week's talented guest DJ..... Rising out of the 90's Drum 'n Bass scene in San Francisco, Smoove quickly became a fixture on the underground Breakz circuit in 2001 DJ'ing with The Space Cowboys and their mighty Unimog. These days his signature power-funk Breakz sound can be heard every weekend all over San Francisco's night life, from underground warehouse parties to his residencies at The End Up, 1015 and Mighty. All his hard work in the night club trenches has earned him membership in nitevibe.com's DJ Dream Team since 2004 and was voted Best DJ 2008 by the readers of the S.F. Bay Guardian in their annual "Best of the Bay" issue. Taking his sound to the airwaves, Smoove has been featured on XM Satellite Radio's Thump Funk show (XM 80) as well as Below Zero on Energy 92.7 and was a frequent guest on Future Breaks on KUSF. Currently, he can be heard on Fog City Funk every Wednesday night at 8pm PST on Nu Skool Breaks Radio (nsbradio.co.uk) In 2004 he, along with Donna Matrix, started publishing the underground magazine NewsBreakz and more recently launched NBz 2.0 (newsbreakz.com) the on-line version in late 2008. Simply put, Smoove is one of the quintessential taste makers in the San Francisco Breakz scene today and can always be relied on to bring a big party fun sound that makes the crowd go giddy on the dance floor. Smoove's mix is also available on The Gough Street Sessions podcast: http://bit.ly/goughstreet-iTunes

It's that time again! Which reminds me... we're rolling out a new feature this month. It's a little something we refer to affectionately as "twice as many episodes." Starting... NOW! We will be releasing a new episode every two weeks. Now, i know what you're saying. "Twice as much memekast? Won't that like... rip a hole in the universe or something?" And it might. I, for one, am willing to take that risk. To mark the occasion, i contacted a very skilled agent, and founder of one of our favorite corporate allies, benchun of False Profit, LLC. For those who don't know, False Profit hit San Francisco in 2000 like a 7.5, with a relentless series of aftershocks at their corporate headquarters at 43 Norfolk lasting five years. During that time, benchun held down a two-year run of Wednesday's at Wish (with Halon of Fake Science), later called Samurai Soundsystem (with Joe Encarnacion of BFamily Records). He started FP's monthly Dividend events at 26Mix, later moving them to Nickie's in the Lower Haight. Dividend continues under the direction of other FP agents, currently at Anu. He also started their monthly happy hour at Il Pirata, Equity, with Boreta from Nexus. He was instrumental in orchestrating the legendary Priceless campout. He also rolls with the Space Cowboys, has rocked the Unimog in BRC, Tahoe, Breakfast of Champions... Yeah, the list totally goes on. But you get the point.
