Dr. Berg’s Healthy Keto and Intermittent Fasting Podcast

Hilary Boynton is the founder of the organization School of Lunch. She has developed a training program to teach schools around the country how to create healthy, nourishing meals for our children. Hilary's family health journey led her to develop School of Lunch. Hilary is a mother of 5 who's dealt with infertility, eczema, epilepsy, speech delays, cancer, and Alzheimer's. Hilary's family moved to California during her husband's battle against cancer. There, she teamed up with a local school and began working on their lunch program. She started as the snack coordinator, then became the consultant to the lunch lady, and was finally given the keys to the kitchen. Inspired by Dr. Weston A. Price's works, Hilary began exploring the importance of traditional, ancestral foods and our health. She familiarized herself with the gut-brain and gut-body connection. After implementing these dietary changes, kids no longer felt the ups and downs of their energy and mood throughout the school day. Kids and their teachers, who followed the same diet, were satiated and energized throughout the day. These benefits trickled into the children's home lives, encouraging parents to join in after seeing the visible improvements.Hilary realized that more schools needed this information. Improving their food could greatly benefit schools, hospitals, churches, community centers, and more. If you're able, please donate to Hilary's amazing cause! Doctors do not factor in food when treating chronic illnesses caused by an ultra-processed diet. Hilary's program aims to turn this vicious cycle around not by simply changing the diet but by empowering children to understand the power of food. Hilary Boynton and Stephanie Gruenke: Reclaiming Family Health Through Nutrient-Dense Eating and Community Empowerment

The Essential 11

Shifting away from unhealthy norms is very difficult, especially when so much of society pushes convenience over well-being. The idea of reclaiming health often starts with small, everyday changes—like making better food choices or prioritizing time together as a family. Families can feel more in control when they move away from what's marketed as "easy" and instead focus on what truly benefits them. It's not about perfection but about carving out healthier routines that feel right for each family. Hilary Boynton is the author of the "Heal Your Gut Cookbook" and the founder of the School of Lunch Training Academy, and Stephanie Gruenke is a dietitian and the co-host of the "Doctor Mom" podcast. Today, Hillary and Stephanie gets into the topic of nutrient-dense school lunches and empowering families to adopt healthier eating habits. Join in as young leaders pose inquiries about life, personal development, and beyond! Quotes: “Busyness is kryptonite for intuition, and intuition is the superpower that we're all born with.” – Hilary Boynton “We really have to take ownership of what we're doing in our homes and with our families, rather than waiting for someone to come and save us. It starts with us, and I think that's one of the most important principles.” – Stephanie Gruenke “Never forget, simplicity is gourmet. It doesn't have to be Food Network worthy or complicated.” – Hilary Boynton “Protecting your family values, being around people and communities that uphold those values, and teaching your kids how to navigate relationships or situations where values might not be upheld, is so important.” – Stephanie Gruenke “Talking about how culture proceeds is crucial because the way it evolves is the defining thing. As I've always said, you make normal what you make normal.” – Matt Beaudreau Takeaways: Establish a culture of joyful, nutrient-dense eating in your home or school, as "culture precedes success." Involve your kids in the kitchen and meal planning to foster a positive relationship with food. Identify and address the root causes of picky eating, such as gut health and sensory issues, with the help of a functional health professional. Engage parents with empathy and open-ended questions to encourage them to take ownership of their family's health. Take advantage of local resources, like farmers and chefs, to build a sustainable, community-driven approach to nourishing your children. Conclusion: Creating a culture of joyful and mindful nourishment within families and schools is important for long-term well-being. Instead of depending on external solutions or quick fixes, the focus should be on empowering parents and educators to take responsibility for their own health and the health of their communities. By encouraging this sense of ownership, we can create a sustainable, community-driven approach to feeding future generations. This shift supports healthier, more connected communities and ensures a lasting impact on the next generation's well-being.

Where to start to nourish our family well? How do we make the time and develop rhythms to feed the family ancestrally? How can we incorporate more nutrient-dense foods on a regular basis? What if the family isn't "into it"? How do we handle moving in this direction, when the whole world seems to be going the other way? We posed these questions to a panel of experts at the Wise Traditions conference in Kansas in October 2023. Maureen Diaz, Hilary Boynton, Christine Muldoon, and Sally Fallon Morell were the panelists of wise women, who have much experience and over 20 kids collectively! Maureen leads God's Good Table. Hilary Boynton is an author and the head of School of Lunch. Christine Muldoon, from the Modern Ancestral Mamas podcast, is head of Nourish the Littles. And Sally Fallon Morell is the founder and president of the Weston A. Price Foundation. On this LIVE podcast, they tackle these questions and more. They address how to handle picky eaters, how to meal plan, and how they handle feelings of loneliness and challenge. They even share their secret tools of the trade, along with mistakes they've made along the way. We hope this live interview inspires you to continue to nourish your family well.   Check out our panelists' websites: Maureen Diaz - godsgoodtable.com Hilary Boynton - schooloflunch.com  Christine Muldoon - nourishthelittles.com  Sally Fallon Morell - nourishingtraditions.com  Join the Nourishing Our Children community: nourishingourchildren.org/groups Check out our sponsors: Paleo Valley and Optimal Carnivore

Hilary Boynton is a mother of five who refused to accept the quality of food her children were being served during school lunch. She began a relentless mission to change the status quo, and eventually took over the lunch program at her local school in Topanga CA. She worked with local farmers and food producers to create an affordable nutrient dense meal program that was based on the foundation of ancestral ways of eating and the results were astounding. Hilary went on to start her company School of Lunch with the goal of making real food accessible to everyone. In the beginning of our conversation, Hilary talks about her health challenges during her early years when she was a high-level athlete eating a highly processed & fat free diet.  Although she looked healthy on the outside, her body was breaking down. Years later, when her 4th child suffered from eczema, she came across the work of Jamie Oliver and Alice Waters.   A diet of raw milk and cod liver oil healed her son after a few months.  This opened her eyes to the power and potential of food as real medicine. During this time, Hilary learned about ancestral ways of eating and healing from Sally Fallon and later Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride. Ultimately, Hilary took over the lunch program at a nature based school in Topanga California that her children were attending.   She overhauled the menu to focus on farm fresh, seasonal and incredibly nutrient dense foods like bone broth, fermented foods, raw dairy and much much more. This led to the creation of Hilary's company called School of Lunch.  Her mission is to share this ancestral way of eating with schools, communities, families and people all over the world. Hilary explains that if you lose your health, you really have nothing.  That is why she prioritizes nutrient dense food as medicine to help prevent disease in the first place. For Hilary, making a change in your diet is really a mindset shift.  Once you make the decision to change, you can draw power from stepping into the work and getting started... one step and one meal at a time. If you feel inspired by Hilary's mission, you can learn more about her and the School of Lunch academy here: Join Hilary Boynton, Author of The Heal your Gut Cookbook and founder of School of Lunch, and become the change you wish to see in this world! School of Lunch Founder, Hilary Boynton is the mother of 5, author of The Heal Your Gut Cookbook and the Head of Nutrition Services at The Manzanita School in Topanga, CA. After seeing the power of food as medicine, and surviving a cancer diagnosis within her own family, she passionately dove into the challenge of solving school lunches where disease prevention begins. Rolling up her sleeves and becoming the Lunch Lady herself, she created a program implementing nutrient-dense, ancestral based, locally sourced and seasonal foods. She also brought in farmers and food producers to teach students where their food comes from and why they should be eating it! The Manzanita model is now spreading across the country and has led to the launch of the ‘School of Lunch' Training Academy, an intensive immersion program. In today's episode, Hilary and I discuss her efforts to “reinvent” school lunches to ensure that they are nourishing for our growing kids. Hilary Boynton is not only a mother feeding 6 kids, she's not only the author of the GAPS cookbook Heal Your Gut, but as you just heard she's a powerhouse who went into her kid's school and when offered the keys to the kitchen, said yes and transformed the menu serving them nutrient dense foods like organ meats, raw butter and kefir, bone broth and beet kvass. Listen in to hear: How, as a mum, she took over her children's school food, transforming what was served into real, nutrient dense food. The differences she's witnessed to the children, the parents and the school community. How she's taken what she's learnt and is teaching others to be lunch leaders globally. This week we are joined by someone who you may have already heard on this podcast once before—she is joining us again today because we saw everything she was doing recently and wanted to give her an opportunity to share it with you all. Hilary Boynton is a certified holistic health counselor with a bachelor of psychology from the University of Virginia and trained at the institute for integrative nutrition. She is also the author of the bestselling Heal Your Gut Cook Book and the Head of Nutrition Services at The Manzanita School in Topanga, CA. After seeing the power of food as medicine with her own family, she passionately dove into the challenge of solving school lunches. After years of frustration, she decided it was time to roll up her sleeves and become the “Lunch Lady” herself. Returning her children's school to an ancestral way of eating has eliminated dietary confusion and changed lives on all fronts! From the children and staff eating the lunches, to the farmers and purveyors raising, growing and supplying the food, to the dedicated lunch leaders lovingly preparing the lunches, her concept is so infused with love one can't help but want in.She believes a grassroots effort and bottom-up approach is where it's at. Hilary is most proud to see this infuse into the children's homes where this way of eating now becomes the norm, and people are once again valuing time spent around the table with family, locally sourced seasonal foods, and great conversation. Intro Song - https://soundcloud.com/cosimo-fogg/jazzaddictsOutro Song - https://soundcloud.com/croquet-club/breath-original-mix **Follow us!**http://www.instagram.com/fatfueledmomhttp://www.instagram.com/dannyvega.mshttp://www.instagram.com/fatfueledkidsYouTubehttp://www.youtube.com/fatfueledfamilyPlease make sure to SUBSCRIBE and leave us a 5-STAR RATING & REVIEW if you like our content! Please visit our blog:http://www.fatfueled.family Carnivore Keto Cut:https://carnivoreketocut.com/sales-page **PRODUCT CODES and LINKS**Amazon Store - http://www.amazon.com/shop/fatfueledmomKetoLogic 10% discount code: FATFUELEDFAMKetoLogic KETO 30: http://bit.ly/2EaqQRGKetoLogic BHB gummies: http://bit.ly/2DhgvkHFBOMB 20% discount code: FATFUELEDFAMFBOMB nut butters: http://bit.ly/2PySREs1Up Nutrition Supplements: Use code FFM20 for 20% off your order at https://1upnutrition.comSpiral Band Fitness: Use code MAURA to save 10% at https://www.spiralbandfitness.comPili Nuts: FATFUELEDMOM saves you  10% at http://www.eatpilinuts.comNeuroroast Coffee: KETOCC saves you 10% at http://www.neuroast.comSelect CBD: https://bit.ly/2AesxgyBeautycounter Safe Non-Toxic Beauty Products: http://www.beautycounter.com/mauravegaSanta Cruz Medicinals: Save $5 with code fatfueledmom

It’s time to disrupt the trend of chronic illness in the next generation of kids. Hilary Boynton has a bright idea for achieving this goal. Hilary is the head of nutrition services at The Manzanita School in Topanga, California, and she is the author of the “Heal Your Gut Cookbook.” Her plan is to reinvent the “Lunch Lady" and the very lunch she serves up. Her mission is to truly nourish children and she is training up a new wave of lunch leaders to do just that. She talks to us about how she and her team approach the lunches they make at their own school, how they follow Wise Traditions guidelines for nutrient-dense meals, their relationship with the local farmers, how they inspire the kids to try the food they make and more. This conversation challenges all of us to become a part of the change we want to see in the world. Hilary reminds us of what’s at stake and the power of just one meal to turn things around. You may be able to arrest health symptoms with the GAPS diet. Many health issues are a direct result of the foods you eat. The modern Western diet plays with pleasure centers, preventing you from recognizing the symptoms in your body after eating non-optimum foods. Becoming Predisposed to Health IssuesThere are more caesarean sections than in prior generations. This means fewer babies are passing through the birth canal to get a dose of mothers' vaginal bacteria. Vaccines, antibiotics, environmental toxins and processed foods disrupt a baby's gut bacteria. The bad bacteria start to outweigh the good. They attack the good bacteria, weakening the gut lining. The weakened gut lining leads to undesirable health conditions. Once you are diagnosed with a health condition, it's hard to undo the mechanics that landed you there. Using quality ingredients and spending more time in the kitchen can improve your health. The GAPS DietStarted by Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride, the Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS) diet is an elimination diet that cuts out anything that could deliver bad bacteria, such as boiled meats, broth, non-fibrous vegetables and veggies without stalks. Each stage takes a few days. Foods are reintroduced slowly. Bad bacteria will kick and scream to save themselves. It's not unusual to feel ill while on the diet. If a reintroduced food makes you feel sick, return to the prior stage of the diet without that food for a few more days. Listen as Hilary Boynton joins Dr. Mike Fenster to share how you can use food to improve your health.

In an age of information overload, it it is easy to become overwhelmed  and even paralyzed by the choices we have to make on a daily basis. Today, Hilary Boynton reminds us to slow down, take a deep breath, and cherish the moment.   Hilary is an author, real food advocate, and a busy mother of five. Her husband has been battling cancer for some time. Her life is full and challenging. And, yet, in the middle of the chaos, she makes healthy eating a priority.   She reminds us that it doesn’t take much to make delicious and nutritious meals. And that eating mindfully and in good company is just as important as eating clean and organic. Pursuing good health is a lifestyle, and it is as much about relationships (with our farmers, our friends and family, and ourselves) as it is about nutrient-density and diet.     Regarding our food choices, Hilary talks about perspective and how to navigate the fine line between being discerning and being neurotic. At the end of the day, it’s all about trusting that your body knows what it needs. She calls us to live consciously and courageously.    This interview was recorded LIVE in Topanga Canyon, California, and the audience was quickly enthralled and inspired by Hilary's heart and words of wisdom. We trust that you will be, too.   Learn more from Hilary at liveyumyum.com.    Visit our website, westonaprice.org, for the full show notes for this episode.

As someone who deals with a lot of people who are affected by gut and digestive problems on a daily basis, when I first heard about Hilary’s book ‘The Heal Your Gut Cook Book’ I was eager to read it. Firstly I wanted to see how much I agreed and disagreed with, and secondly, I wanted to see if I could pick up any extra tips that I could try myself. After reading it I can say that the book cemented a lot of my thoughts about healing the digestive tract whilst also giving me some new ideas on different recipes I could try. Digestive problems are one of the leading reported health issues in the western world today. More and more people are complaining of issues such as IBS, Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, stomach cramps, constipation, bloating and diarrhoea. So having Hilary on the show to talk about these problems and how to heal them was a real treat. The devoted mother of five young kids, Hilary has seen the power of nutritional healing firsthand. Processed foods, prescription medicines, sugar, toxins in and around us--these are feeding the bad bacteria in our gut and compromising our gut health, and consequently our overall health. Certified holistic health counselor Hilary Boynton discusses how to address a leaky gut and reverse the trend of deteriorating health. She knows what she's talking about since she and her family have faced many health challenges of their own, including eczema, epilepsy, infertility, and cancer. You will be riveted by her story and encouraged by the practical steps she gives for approaching the well-known GAPS (gut and psychology syndrome) diet to heal the gut.  Hear Hilary recount how her family got started on the GAPS diet and how they have benefited from it. Her son, who at two years of age couldn't speak and who was on the autistic spectrum, is now her "smartest kid," reading and writing at grade level. For other children, speech delays disappeared and skin issues resolved. Her daughter had fewer epileptic seizures. Her husband lost weight. As the author of the "Heal your gut cookbook," Hilary has heard from many whose lives have also benefited from the GAPS diet and a new emphasis on real food for lasting health.
