The book of Acts has so much to say not only about our past but also about today and how followers of Jesus are called to live. This book also speaks to those who don't yet know Jesus as Savior, those on the fence, seekers, doubters and those questioning or interested. Chapter 2 Acts 2:1-2 "When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a soundalike the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting." This chapter starts out with the Jewish Festival of Shavuot or Pentecost. And the disciples and others gathered in a house. There would have been 10's of thousands of people gathered in the streets of Jerusalem and at the Temple for this festival. Acts 2:3-4 "They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues (languages) as the Spirit enabled them." Rushing wind! Tongues of fire! Acts 2:5ff The group has moved into the streets and Jews from every nation who had come to Jerusalem for the festival, heard the sound of the wind and gathered in bewilderment because each one heard their own language being spoken by those with the tongues of fire. The crowds were amazed to hear the disciples with the tongues of fire declaring the wonders of God in their own languages. In verse 13 we hear the disciples being made fun of as they speak in tongues. Some people saying they are drunk. But in the following verses Peter speaks to the crowd. Then and Now Holy Spirit is Predicted by Joel (Acts 16-21) Then: Peter speaks the prophetic words from God given to Joel "I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days." Peter ends with "and everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." They were witnessing what was predicted/prophesied hundreds of years earlier. This book (often referred to as The Acts of the Holy Spirit) shows us the remarkable ways God was moving. Now: Pentecost ushered in a new era in human history. In our day God's spirit is still moving. The gospel of Jesus is spreading around the world like never before. It is everywhere. God continues to move and pour out His spirit and change people's lives. The Risen Christ is Proven by God (Acts 2:22-24) Then: Jesus' miracles and teachings were seen and witnessed. Jesus was crucified on a cross but God raised Him from the dead. They had living proof. Now: No human life has ever made so powerful an impact than did the life and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It has changed the world. And we have the recorded history of those who did witness Jesus works, death and resurrection. Messiah was Predicted by David (Acts 2:25-31) Then: Peter quotes David who believed that there was One who would come and not see decay and would be One who would save. Peter continues by saying this One David talked about was none other than Jesus Christ. Now: God continues to be at work today and the things that Jesus spoke of that would come and those things He predicted are being fulfilled today. Jesus Ascended and was Exalted by God (Acts 2:32-35) Then: Peter tells them how God raised Jesus from the grave and has poured out the Holy Spirit and that they were witnesses to that. Peter tells them that Jesus is Lord! He is worthy of worship! Now: this is true for us today. Jesus is risen! He continues to pour out His Holy Spirit! Jesus is Lord! He is worthy of worship! Accountability because You crucified Him (Acts 2:36-37) Then: Peter gets personal, telling them that "God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah." And "When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, 'Brothers, what shall we do?'" The message of Jesus demands a response. We are collectively guilty of crucifying Jesus. We all have sinned. Now: The message of Jesus still demands a response. It is our sin that put Jesus on the cross. And still today, when people hear and internalize the message of Jesus Christ it changes them. Forgiveness brings New Life in Christ (Acts 2:38-41) Then: Peter called them to repentance and baptism Now: have you heeded the call to come to faith in Jesus. This is still the desire of God, that we come to Him through faith in Jesus, that we repent, are baptized and give our lives to Him. Pastor closes with a look at the recently discovered Pool of Siloam and its archeological impact on what the Bible says. Good Morning. Tonight is Seder night, the start of Passover, the Jewish Festival of Freedom, when we recall the Exodus from Egypt, our people's journey from slavery to liberation. It's a story which embraces all our stories. My mother, aged a hundred, tells how she escaped Nazi Europe. A woman whose husband is imprisoned in the Congo says, ‘May God who freed your people, free him.' A Muslim guest who fled for his life stands up and exclaims: ‘Your story is my story too.' For, far from free, so much of the world suffers beneath oppression and war. Maybe that's why the Seder ends with a song, Chad Gadya, which means ‘one little goat' in Aramaic. It's a ditty in the style of The House That Jack Built: a cat eats the goat, dog bites cat, stick hits dog, fire burns stick, water quenches fire, cow drinks water, butcher kills cow, the angel of death despatches the butcher. But then comes God and slays the angel of death. I have a vivid memory of my grandfather, aged and weak, catching my eye and whispering at what he knew would be his final Seder, ‘after death comes God.' That was his faith, his hope. But does God have the last word in our violent world? It hardly feels that way today. I phone family in Jerusalem: we're in and out of bomb shelters. My heart goes out to them. I call an Iranian friend: ‘No word from my sisters in Tehran.' ‘My hometown's just been bombed,' a Ukrainian acquaintance texts me. So that Chad Gadya song feels like a metaphor for history, only it's not goats and cats, but humanity who's the victim. In their heart-rending shared memorial service, bereaved Israeli and Palestinian families sing that song in Hebrew and Arabic together. Yet, I still see my grandfather's face and hear his whisper: after the angel of death comes God; life is greater than death. But I hear those words as a question: What world is this? What do we want it to be? Of death, or life; oppression or freedom; cruelty or compassion? I pray this Passover will truly mark our journey towards freedom, so that we can celebrate God's world together, knowing that the same sacred spirit flows through us all, whatever our faith or nationality, giving life to all that breathes. We've had too much of cat eating goat, human devouring human. May this Festival of Freedom mark our liberation from hatred, violence and fear, for my people, and every people.

Thank you for listening to our Surge Church Podcast. The Story of Queen Esther being used by God to saver her people from genocide is celebrated in the Jewish Festival of Purim. Esther is the only book of the Bible in which the name "God" is not mentioned. This is a great reminder that even when we cannot see or sense God, He is always at work in the background shaping circumstances and events for our victory.

Today is a special day for our world, do you know why? Two years ago today, final plans were being made by Hamas for a very sophisticated, brutal invasion into Israeli territory for the massacre of innocent Israeli citizens enjoying the festivities of one of their annual, very significant Jewish Festivals, Sukkot. This year Sukkot begins at sundown this evening (October 6) and will last for 7 days. The Sukkot week calls Jews around the world to remember that their ancestors wandered in the desert for 40 years living in temporary shelters after they refused to trust God and go into the Land of God’s Promise. Crystal Rivers | Word for Now | Sep 22, 2025 This content presents a Christian theological framework centered on Jewish festivals, particularly Rosh Hashanah, as spiritually significant seasons for believers. The central premise is that specific times of year, especially during Jewish holy days, represent "chairo seasons" when divine activity increases and spiritual encounters become more accessible. The teaching emphasizes that spiritual preparation through prayer, scripture study, and sacrifice creates opportunities for angelic visitations and divine revelation. It interprets biblical stories like Abraham's encounter with three visitors and Jacob wrestling with an angel as examples of how spiritual readiness during transitional seasons can lead to supernatural encounters and divine commissioning. The content reframes Rosh Hashanah (called "Yom Teruah" or day of trumpet blowing) as a time when God invites believers to "rule and reign" through receiving His word for the coming season. This is connected to the biblical account of David's anointing, suggesting that just as kings were anointed with oil that flowed according to their spiritual capacity, believers can receive divine authority and direction during these seasons. Several interpretations diverge from mainstream Christian theology, particularly regarding "evil spirits from God" in scripture, which the teaching explains as consequences of prior spiritual rebellion rather than divine judgment. The content also emphasizes that spiritual encounters require specific preparation and that only those with "ears to hear" will receive what God is releasing in each season. The overall message promotes active spiritual engagement during Jewish festival seasons, suggesting that believers who position themselves correctly through spiritual disciplines will experience restoration, encounters, and divine commissioning that others will miss. However, some of the claims about specific dates, direct revelation, and supernatural encounters should be approached with discernment, as they represent particular interpretative traditions rather than universally accepted Christian doctrine. Rabbi Chaim Landa joins the show to share details about the festival's mission to spread positivity and celebrate Jewish life and culture. The event has grown each year, drawing thousands, and especially in recent months, it has become a beacon of community support amid rising antisemitism. Rabbi Landa describes the festival's family-friendly activities, including an open-air marketplace modeled after Israeli “shooks,” cultural crafts, live Jewish music, kosher food, and a petting zoo. The conversation touches on the broader climate of support for the Jewish community locally and nationally, emphasizing the power of love and unity against hate. The segment closes with light-hearted personal notes from the hosts about family milestones and upcoming schedule changes.

On this episode of Taste Buds with Deb, host Debra Eckerling speaks with Warren Rockmacher, known as the godfather of kosher barbecue. Rockmacher discovered competitive barbecue in 2013. He competes with his kosher barbecue team around the country and has started competitions of his own, including the Great American Kosher Barbecue Championship and Jewish Festival in Lake Worth, Florida. “People love coming out for the food [but we also have] crafters, vendors,” he says. “We're celebrating being Jewish and that's really what [the event] is all about.” Their third annual event will be February 15, 2026. Rockmacher believes there's an art and craft to making barbecue. “[The art] is taking something uniquely American … and being able to make it your own,” he explains. “[This applies to] something as simple as just grilling hamburgers and hot dogs or elevating that chicken [or] brisket. “Try different things - you never know what you might like.” The craft of barbecue is the fire management. You use different wood pellets, rather than charcoal or propane, to get a nice wood flavor. And you cook it low and slow. “A good brisket is going to take you anywhere from 9 to 13, 14 hours, depending on how you do it,” he explains. “We start at night and they're done the next morning, and then you let them rest for a period of time and then go ahead and eat them.” Warren Rockmacher shares his barbecue origin story, name drops some of his favorite kosher pitmasters - including Dani Goldblatt of Holy Smokes in LA - and goes through the different types of grills and smokers, along with what you can make in them. He also shares barbecue tips, the 411 on competitions, and recipes for two of his favorites: honey bourbon crack hot dogs and brisket, which you can find at JewishJournal.com/podcasts. Raphi Fulcher's Musical Journey and Life as a Black Orthodox Jew In this episode, Raphi Fulcher, also known as Hebrew, discusses his unique background and perspectives. Growing up as the youngest of six children to parents who converted to Judaism in the 1960s, Raphi shares his experiences moving across different states and eventually studying in Israel. Currently a project manager in digital marketing, Raphi is also a passionate musician. He talks about his musical influences, family background in music, and the transformative experience of performing live. Raphi sheds light on the challenges of dating within the Orthodox Jewish community as a Black man and the importance of finding a partner who understands and is prepared for those challenges. He also discusses the significance of Torah values and the importance of addressing 'otherness' in the Jewish community. Additionally, Raphi shares insights into his music career, Jewish music festivals, and his aspirations to create music that heals and educates. 00:00 Introduction and Background 00:36 Religious and Professional Journey 03:05 Musical Beginnings 04:20 First Performance and Health Struggles 07:24 Stage Name and Identity 09:00 Growing Up Orthodox 20:46 Dating Challenges 29:14 Navigating Relationships and Conversion 30:44 Qualities I'm Looking for in a Partner 32:24 Challenges in Finding the Right Match 35:10 The Birth of a Jewish Music Festival 37:14 Balancing Tradition and Modernity in Music 43:21 The Deeper Meaning of Cain and Hevel 48:45 Practical Advice for Facing Fear 51:39 Sharing My Music and Inspirations https://www.hebromusic.com https://www.instagram.com/hebromusic/ https://www.youtube.com/@Hebromusic www.JewishCoffeeHouse.com franciskakay@gmail.com About Raphi: Raphi Fulcher is a man on a mission, a soldier, or a “soulja,” if you will, in the army of Hashem. So intent is he on spreading his message of acceptance and brotherhood through rap and hip hop music, that he performs under the name Hebro, a Fulcher-ism that declares his intent to use his artistic abilities to better the world as he serves in the ranks of God's military. The youngest of six children born to African-American parents who converted to Judaism 43 years ago under the guidance of Rabbi J.J. Hecht, the then-assistant to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Fulcher hails from a family of gifted vocalists. The singer, songwriter, rapper and producer lived in Crown Heights until he was four and spent his formative years in North Carolina, St. Louis and Israel. It was during his time as a student at Queens College that Fulcher, whose full name is Raphael Ohr Chayim, discovered his gift for singing publicly. “I was on the board at Chabad of Queens College and we staged musical events. I found that I had a deep passion for live performance,” Fulcher told The Jewish Link. After spending a Lag B'omer at the Chevra Ahavas Yisroel synagogue, Fulcher found himself falling in love with Crown Heights and he spent the next five years there, enjoying the unique warmth of the community and honing his musical voice. Deeply enamored with rap, hip hop, reggae and R&B music, Fulcher decided that the time had come to bring those genres to Jewish audiences, albeit with all new lyrics. “Just the music and the rhythm are very powerful and could resonate with a lot of people if we had positive, uplifting content,” said Fulcher, who previously performed under the name Hebro. “I kept imagining how powerful it would be if I added a real element that would allow listeners to vibe out to the rhythm, with lyrics that have meaning and purpose. I don't think you can deny that it is Jewish music.” Having stretched his musical wings on stage with Matisyahu, Nissim Black, Moshav Band, Lipa Schmeltzer, Zusha and others, Fulcher decided three years ago that it was time to share his God given gifts with the world in a debut EP titled Genesis. “It is an album that is inspired by Tehillim, by King David's work,” said Fulcher. “When I imagine David Hamelech performing during his life, I imagine that his music had rhythm and spirit and with all due respect, I don't think it sounded like the typical 'Jewish' music we hear today in the orthodox world” Genesis, featuring seven original compositions, will be released on March 17th, Rosh Chodesh Nissan. Fulcher is looking forward to sharing his music at a release party taking place at The Loft and Rooftop at 83 Essex Street on Manhattan's Lower East Side of Manhattan which will also feature up and coming talents Izzy Gilden, DJ Kamilly, Simple Man and others. His soon to be released Souljass music video, featuring one of the tracks on the EP, tells the story of Cain and Hevel, which Fulcher sees as the start of baseless hatred in the world. “I want to shed light on being fearful of what we don't control or understand,” said Fulcher. “There is a message there in Cain's conversation with Hashem, when he says he doesn't know where his brother is. If we focused on the other person, if we were conscious of one another, and were tolerant of each other, we would be able to bring about the ultimate redemption.” Still, Fulcher, a resident of the Wesley Hills section of Monsey, is subtle with his messaging. “I consider myself a chasid of the Lubavitcher Rebbe and his teachings and his mission,” said Fulcher. “That is what I wanted to do with this album of songs about redemption and while I may not mention that concept by name, it is there in broader terms and in a way that will allow more people to enjoy the music.” With an edgy style that is simultaneously youthful and appealing, Fulcher is a crossover artist who can appeal to the masses, but also has his priorities straight. Passionate about his music, he is even more dedicated to his religious observance. As someone with close ties to Chabad, Fulcher feels strongly about his own obligation to improve the lives of others. “My ultimate mission with my music is to do my part to bring redemption,” explained Fulcher. “I consider this to be my shlichut and I believe each of us has to bring the world to a higher state of perfection by doing chesed, by reaching out and not just harboring light, but shining light out onto the world.” Having been the only African-American student in the yeshivos he attended since first grade wasn't always easy, admitted Fulcher, but it was an experience that prepared him for his future. “It was challenging for myself and for my peers,” said Fulcher. “It was a reality that none of them had ever dealt with before and it was new for them. Still, growing up as an African-American Jew in a white Orthodox Jewish world gave me the experience to understand the potential of breaking down the barriers of fear and difference while creating an opportunity for growth. B'nei Yisrael come in all shapes and colors and sizes and the sooner we can all handle that the sooner we will all be b'simcha.”

Send us a textWe discuss whether Christians should celebrate the Jewish festivals prescribed in the Old Testament. Is something that we are required to do? Is this something that would be useful for us to do?
“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’” (John 8:12 NLT) The Jewish religious leaders wanted revenge on Jesus. He had exposed their hypocrisy and made them look foolish in front of a large crowd. They wanted to return the favor. They came up with a plan to embarrass Him in a public setting. They caught a woman who was having an adulterous affair and brought her to the temple, where Jesus was teaching during the Jewish Festival of Shelters. They asked Jesus what He thought they should do with her. This was a trap. Under Jewish law, a person could be stoned to death for adultery. However, the law was rarely enforced. If Jesus said, “Let her go,” He would be breaking Jewish law. If He said, “Stone her to death,” He would be breaking Roman law because the Romans didn’t allow Jews to carry out religious executions. Instead of passing judgment on the woman, Jesus turned the tables on her accusers. “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” (verse 7 NLT). The accusers had sinned by hatching the plot in the first place. And by bringing the woman to Him publicly to humiliate her. And by ignoring the man who had committed adultery with her. And by not really caring about her. They didn’t even try to argue with Jesus. Instead, they just slipped away, one by one. Defeated. Again. Jesus resumed His teaching with an amazing claim: “I am the light of the world” (verse 12 NLT). His words had special significance during the Festival of Shelters. The Jewish people celebrated God’s pillar of fire that gave light to the Israelites on their way to the Promised Land. Jesus wanted the people to understand that the same light that guided their ancestors centuries before was available to them. And it’s available to us too. Anyone who follows Jesus will not walk in darkness. Jesus illuminates the way to God. The way to eternal life. The way to lasting joy, peace, assurance, and fulfillment. Not everyone appreciates that light. Certainly not the men who had just brought the woman to Jesus. There are certain things people prefer to do under cover of darkness. Things they want to keep hidden. Things that might change people’s opinion of them if they were discovered. So they resent the light. They stay as far from it as possible, for fear of being exposed. They don’t realize that having their sins exposed is the first step of a life-changing process. When we acknowledge our sins, we can ask God’s forgiveness for them. We can break free from their power over us. Everyone who chooses to walk in Jesus’ light, to turn away from darkness and put their trust in Him, will be saved. And they will walk with Him forever. — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On a recent vacation, my wife and I had the opportunity to travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The house where we stayed was on the beach. From the balcony, we looked out at what seemed to be an endless supply of beautiful blue ocean water. But as beautiful as it was, I knew that a drink of this vast supply of salty water would not refresh me; it will only make me thirstier. I wanted water that was fresh, cool, and clean. In John chapter 7, Jesus' disciples went to Judea for the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles (vv. 2–3). Jesus went in secret, partway through the festival, because the Jewish leaders were pursuing Him, seeking to kill Him (vv. 1, 8). In John 7:37, Jesus spoke to the crowd on the last and greatest day of the Feast of Tabernacles. The practice of the week required the priests to walk from the pool of Siloam and pour out water at the base of the altar at the Temple. On the seventh day there was a special ceremony. It is possible that Jesus used this event to reinforce the meaning of His words to the crowd: “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink” (v. 37). Think about it. Parched and thirsty pilgrims could be refreshed only by the water that Jesus offered. Not only would the person who drank the water that Jesus offered be refreshed, but more than that, as Jesus added, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him” (v. 38). >> When we believe in Jesus we can be refreshed. But it also means that we can be a refreshment to others. It can happen because the Giver of refreshment and the source of refreshment is God. When you place your faith in Jesus Christ, you receive the Holy Spirit Who provides us with all that we need to flourish and refresh others in our spiritually parched world.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
As the Christian Advent season begins, there's always talk about faith and what people actually believe. The Jewish Festival of Lights, Hanukkah, is also a part of the season. But for Christians, Christmas is the high and Holy time of welcoming the birth of Jesus, Savior of the world. And it's also the time atheists offer more vitriol against belief in God. So, here's a preemptive strike that will help people of faith enjoy the Christmas season. On this episode of Lighthouse Faith podcast, best-selling author and radio host, Eric Metaxas, turns the tables on atheism and explains his book, "Is Atheism Dead?" The short answer is that while there are still people who profess no belief in an Omniscient Being, Metaxas blasts that position as intellectually untenable, and that those who still hold to it haven't done their homework. Metaxas takes on the four-horsemen of atheism: Dawkins, Dennet, Hitchens and Harris. He says while they appear scholarly, they've ignored the advances in science that give much more proof of there being a God than no God. Science, it turns out, has far more in common with faith in God. Chapters: 00:00:00-Is Atheism Dead?
