Jump blues was the precursor to rock, emerging in post-war America. You can count Chuck Berry and Little Richard among those who were heavily influenced by jump blues. This lively and rhythmically driven music genre is characterized by the fusion of elements from jazz, blues, and rhythm and blues with a nod to big band. Urban migration led to this blending of musical styles and seemed to foster a faster and more electrified sound. Our show today zeroes in on some of the most influential performers in the realm of jump blues including Louis Jordan, Wynonie Harris, Lucky Millinder, and Jimmy Witherspoon. It's a Friday morning house party once again on KOWS Community Radio's Deeper Roots with your host Dave Stroud with some bluesy licks, upbeat tempos and joyful vocals.
Grace and Shawna decided to choose Swing Music for their theme song as an homage to the iconic Moonlighting episode "The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice" from Season Two.Even though this episode is set in the 40s era, they thought it was fitting to use this type of sound in their theme, as Swing Music was a style of jazz that developed in the United States during the late 1920s and early 1930s. It became nationally popular from the mid-1930s. Swing music had a danceable rhythm to it and the Big Bands of the time as well as the Bandleaders such as Benny Goodman were a dominant force in American popular music from 1935 to 1946. Swing bands usually featured soloists who would improvise on the melody over the arrangement. This was known as the Swing Era when people were dancing to tunes such as the Lindy Hop.The word "Swing" is used as a term of praise for playing that has a strong groove or drive. Some examples of Musicians from the Swing era include Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Cab Calloway, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, and of course Glenn Miller.Swing has its roots in 1920s dance music. New styles of written arrangements, incorporating rhythmic innovations pioneered by the incomparable Louise Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins, and Benny Carter as well as many many others.Unfortunately, during the World War II era, Swing music began to decline in popularity, and after the war, "Bebop" and "Jump Blues" gained popularity. Please enjoy this full version of Moonlighting The Podcast's Theme Swing Music.MOONLIGHTING THE TV SHOWThe show is all about the hit TV Show Moonlighting which aired from 1985 to 1989 starring Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd.Grace Chivell and Shawna Saari take a look at each episode in chronological order from the Pilot to the end of the fifth and final season. They discuss the direction, the production, the outfits, the lighting, the car chases, and the tumultuous relationship between Maddie Hayes and David Addison.FOR MORE INFORMATION:https://moonlightingthepodcast.comMerchandise: https://redbubble.com/people/moonpod2016Join Our Facebook Community:https://facebook.com/groups/moonlightingthepodcasthttps://facebook.com/moonlightingthepodcastJoin Our Instagram Community:https://instagram.com/moonlightingthepodcastTo learn more about Grace:https://gracechivell.com.auMoonlighting The Podcast YouTube Channel: bit.ly/maddieanddavidTo learn more about Shawna:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCft4ALOjBZnEt4DBUvx3HvQDonate:https://ko-fi.com/moonlightingthepodcastPersonal Instagram:https://instagram.com/grace_chivellhttps://instagram.com/saari_not.saari Hosted on Acast. • Ann Rohmer speaks with the Ontario Medical Association President Dr. Rose Zacharias. Ontarians will soon return to school, the workplace and public gatherings in greater numbers, yet we are still in the seventh wave of the COVID pandemic. The health-care system is bursting at the seams and we are facing a potentially bad flu season for the first time in three years. The Ontario Medical Association has assembled a panel of physicians to discuss what living with COVID could look like in the coming months. • Kevin Frankish discusses wastewater testing for polio. After new reports of polio cases abroad, and virus samples in the wastewater of several other developed countries, Canada intends to start testing wastewater from a number of cities "as soon as possible”. Almost 70 years ago, the most severe polio epidemic on record claimed more than 8,000 victims across the country. About a quarter of those stricken with so-called infantile paralysis were in Ontario. Our former Lieutenant Governor David Onley contracted polio when his was 3 years old. He shares his story with Kevin. • Ann Rohmer is with the CEO of Novo Integrated Sciences; Robert Mattcchione who says it's time to embrace a new model for treatments and diagnostics that puts patients first by using technology like our smart phones to bring non-catastrophic treatments out of expensive hospitals and into doctors' offices, clinics and even peoples' homes. • Jim Lang talks with Markham comedian Neema Naz…he has more than half a million followers on TIKTOK alone • Shaliza Bacchus is with Jay Douglas, first appearing on stage in Montego Bay, Jamaica when he was a youth. A remarkable 45 years (!!!) later, Jay continues to be one of the beautifully elegant reasons why Toronto – and Canada's – music scene continues to flourish. In the early '60s, Jay fronted the R&B group The Cougars who lit up the Montreal as well as Toronto's Yonge Street nightclubs in the late '70s with Soul, Funk and Reggae. He'll be performing at the CNE Bandshell on August 24 performing Jump Blues, Chicago Big Band Blue, Soulful Ballads, New Orleans Rhythm and Blues, all found on Jay's new album “Confession.”
Reggae icon & award winning artist Jay Douglas joins the DTP to discuss his first ever Blues album “Confession”! Jay Douglas' new 14 -song album is a testament to his long love of Jump Blues and the type of Rhythm and Blues that came out in the 50's from artists such as Roscoe Gordon, Johnny Ace, Bobby Bland, Dave Bartholomew and Ray Charles. In the spirit of his influencers Jay penned three originals that includes a toast to his city ("I Love Toronto") and a big band holiday song ("Merry Christmas") with the latter reminiscent of a Quincy Jones arrangement for Joe Williams with the Count Basie Orchestra. Throughout his time of entertaining, Jay has developed into an Internationally idolized musical renaissance man thanks to his wide-ranging repertoire of Reggae, American blues, West Indian rhythms, and jazz standards Connect with Jay Douglas — — Support Colton Gee and Desert Tiger ----- Check out our webstore @ Follow the Desert Tiger Podcast @ Follow Colton Gee @ -----

Thank you to all the DJ's, Dancers & Funk fans who came out to make yesterdays Block Party such a memorable day for us. Here is a little treat recording of our guest MEEM (Back to Funk) playing a dope old school hip hop, funk and disco set in the sun back in February 2013 recording live in the mix at Soul of Sydney secret jam. About MEEM: DJ Meem is a respected DJ from Sydney. With a mammoth music collection, Meems musical tastes are nothing short of diverse. His interest in all genres of music makes for dynamic and broad-reaching DJ sets. A love of Funk music (in all its forms) is the backbone of many DJ sets, although aside from Funk you may also hear Disco, Boogie, Hip Hop, Afrobeat, African, Reggae, Soul, Jazz, Hillbilly, Jump Blues, Swing, Re-edits, Mash-ups and all kinds of beats and breaks. His sets are praised for diversity, flow and fun. Meem has a genuine approach to playing the music he loves. Check out more mixes, releases and info on MEEM here meem.org & check out his radio show BACK TO FUNK on Monday afternoons (12-1:30)
Episode 52 Hey Everyone! Welcome to another sweet episode of creative riding! On this episode we head into the past. How would you like to resurrect an old bike and breathe new life into something classic? For fun, how would you like to use only the resources that were available when that bike was new? Wouldn't be very fun, would it? Not unless your version of "old" is something built within the last 10 years and you have the internet at your disposal!! Let's talk vintage cafe racers and music from that are with someone who knows a lot about both. We have a guest/expert on to walk us through their creative endeavors. Of course there will be a DIY tech tip. From BCB... http://bestofbcb.org/wu-276-bloedel-summer-concerts/ Bainbridge Singer/Songwriter Ethan J. Perry and his Remedy Band will kick off this summer's Bloedel Concert Series Saturday, June 25th at the Bloedel Reserve: doors open at 6pm. The beautiful grounds of Bloedel Reserve will be the setting for three concerts this summer with offerings for a variety of musical tastes. On June 25th Ethan J. Perry and the Remedy Band will bring their “Americana Indie Technicolor Jazz” style music to the Bloedel stage. Ethan is a Bainbridge Island singer/songwriter, and the band includes other BI talent. Expect high energy music with thoughtful lyrics! This kick-off concert will also include the Seattle-based Duke Evers Band. They self-describe as “rip roaring, barn burning rock-n-roll sound with pop melodies that'll make your toe shoot right out of your boot!” Next up, the Dusty 45s, Seattle's rockabilly, swing and jump blues band will perform on August 14. Melding styles ranging from Country Twang to Jump Blues and Surf to R&B, the Dusty 45's also use Dixieland and jazz elements -- another high energy band guaranteed to get fans on their feet. The season will close in a more classical mode with quite a coup: on September 4th Dale Henderson, whom Yoyo Ma describes as “a very gifted musician and natural cellist” will perform Bach's gamba sonatas at Bloedel with pianist William Chapman Nyaho. Henderson initiated the Bach in the Subways movement in March of 2010. Since then it has become an international event, held every March to celebrate Bach's birthday and raise appreciation for classical music. On March 22, 2015, Bach was played in public places in 130 cities, 40 countries, 6 continents. The three concerts will be in different locations around the Bloedel gardens, where families are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy the music. Wine and beer from Bainbridge Island Brewing will be sold on the grounds; guests may only consume liquor purchased on site. For more information about all three concerts go to bloedelreserve.org.
