Why for Jazz

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 30, 2026 41:40

Playlist of the Show:[23:09] What'd I Say - Ray Charles[26:30] Early Summer - Ryo Fukui[28:52] Hymn to Freedom - Oscar PetersonAI建议的爵士乐育儿歌单(20月龄-36月龄)20个月:高保真钢琴触键(物理建模期) ● 曲目: Midnight Sugar (山本刚), C-Jam Blues (Red Garland), Linus and Lucy (Vince Guaraldi), Bag's Groove (MJQ) ● 深度分析: ○ 脑神经科学: 20个月的孩子,内耳耳蜗的**音调映射(Tonotopic map)**正在进行最后的物理微调。 1. Work Song (Nat Adderley) 2. Killer Joe (Benny Golson) 3. Blues in the Closet (Bud Powell) 4. 1. Moanin' (Art Blakey) 2. Song for My Father (Horace Silver) 3. The Sidewinder (Lee Morgan) 4. Watermelon Man (Herbie Hancock) 5. 1. Aruarian Dance (Nujabes) 2. Luv(sic) Part 3 (Nujabes) 3. Waltz for Life Will Born (Uyama Hiroto) 4. Take Five (Dave Brubeck) 2. Unsquare Dance (Dave Brubeck) 3. Blue Rondo à la Turk (Dave Brubeck) 4. 1. Waltz for Debby (Bill Evans) 2. Bluesette (Toots Thielemans) 3. Alice in Wonderland (Bill Evans) 4. Up with the Lark (Bill Evans) ● 深度分析: ○ 脑神经科学: 三拍子会强烈刺激小脑的前庭系统。 1. The Girl from Ipanema (Stan Getz) 2. Wave (Antônio Carlos Jobim) 3. Desafinado (Stan Getz) 4. 1. So What (Miles Davis) 2. Maiden Voyage (Herbie Hancock) 3. Little Sunflower (Freddie Hubbard) 4. 1. My Funny Valentine (Chet Baker) 2. You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To (Art Pepper) 3. Autumn Leaves (Cannonball) 4. 1. Scrapple from the Apple (Charlie Parker) 2. A Night in Tunisia (Dizzy Gillespie) 3. Donna Lee (Charlie Parker) 4. Early Summer (Ryo Fukui) 2. Scenery (Ryo Fukui) 3. Blow Up (Isao Suzuki) 4. 1. L-O-V-E (Nat King Cole) 2. Cheek to Cheek (Fitzgerald & Armstrong) 3. Fly Me to the Moon (Sinatra) 4. How High the Moon (Ella Fitzgerald) ● 深度分析: ○ 脑神经科学: SSIR 假说(Shared Syntactic Integration Resource)指出,语言与音乐共享神经资源。 St. Thomas (Sonny Rollins) 2. Moritat (Sonny Rollins) 3. Cantaloop (Us3) 4. Mambo Inn (George Shearing) 2. Manteca (Dizzy Gillespie) 3. Afro Blue (Mongo Santamaría) 4. Spain (Chick Corea) 2. Birdland (Weather Report) 3. Giant Steps (John Coltrane) 2. Naima (John Coltrane) 3. Speak No Evil (Wayne Shorter) 4. 1. Rhapsody in Blue (Gershwin) 2. Hymn to Freedom (Oscar Peterson) 3. The Köln Concert (Keith Jarrett) 4.

If you can make it as a professional musician in Austin, that is saying something. And if you can make it in Nashville, New Orleans, and also New York, that is saying something in all caps. Seth Walker has made it in all of the above locales. Making it as a professional musician in all of those iconic music scenes is not only impressive, but it also requires playing a variety of styles that sync with each city's musical tastes. With his 12th album, Why the Worry, Seth Walker shows off what he has learned (and unlearned) from all of those years gigging and recording with a who's who of roots music luminaries. In recent years, he has called western North Carolina home, which is not terribly far from his childhood home in a Quaker commune, a couple hundred miles to the east in Burlington. That is where his music journey began, and is the place which serves as the backdrop to his forthcoming novella, about a young girl on a tobacco farm. I imagine Seth Walker may even make some paintings to go along with that story, as he is also an accomplished visual artist.Seth is as laid back as he is intriguing, and we enjoyed a relaxed conversation at his home in Fairview, NC, nestled in the Appalachian mountains. Joining us was WNCW intern Elena Dickson, who hosted our recent episode on fellow western NC artist Sally Anne Morgan. We spoke about Seth's musical past and present, ranging from his love of jump blues to how an inspired take of Al Green's “Take Me to the River” set the wheels in motion for his latest album, to how Hurricane Helene very nearly left it in a ditch. All that and more, including music from Why the Worry, awaits you in this podcast. Welcome back to ArtBeat Radio! Today we are filled with love, and present our Valentine’s Day special! You’ll get to hear original love songs, a Valentine’s jingle for our gallery, a short history of Valentine’s day and an original poem! (2:20) “Milkshake and Fries” - CECA’s Songwriting Class Resident artists at the Cultural Education Center for the Arts (CECA), a program of Able ARTS Work, submitted an original song and video to ArtBeat Radio! The members of their songwriting class went through a list of themes, and they collectively chose to write a song about “love.” The lyrics were chosen by going through a series of love and relationship scenarios asking questions like: “Where would you want to go on a date?” “What do you feel when you like someone?” “When do you find yourself thinking about the one you love?” “What are you doing when you are thinking about him/her?” The lyrics were completed within a few days and participants assisted in choosing all stylistic elements of the music, including song key, tempo, chords, instrumentation, and melodies. Listeners will get a chance to hear several of the artists’ singing voices that were recorded live during classes. This project is a collaboration of two different classes (Songwriting and Music Video Production) and so it allowed many artists to be a part of it. We hope you enjoy! Lyrics: Here I am Lying on a beanbag Missin’ you Everyday you make me smile Strollin’ through the neighborhood And all I can think of is you And all I can think of is you I walked past Your pretty house And wondered what You’re doing too I wanna go watch a movie with you And all I can think of is you And all I can think of is you You make me happy You’re so dreamy I can guarantee To my heart you hold the key You give me butterflies When you look in my eyes We go together like milkshake and fries We go together like milkshake and fries You make me happy You’re so dreamy I can guarantee To my heart you hold the key You give me butterflies When you look in my eyes We go together like milkshake and fries We go together like batido and frita We go together like batido and frita We go together like milkshake and fries (5:18) “Long Beach Gallery Jingle” - CECA This Valentine Jingle was written by some of the students from CECA at Able Arts Work for the 2nd and PCH Long Beach Gallery to promote the Valentine products and activity “Make One Take One.” The students chose Valentine Candy Heart sayings like “Be Mine” as well as ones they created specifically for cards in the gallery like “Let’s Dance” and “You are My Sunshine.” The students then chose rhyming words to plug into the song as well as musical elements such as guitar rather than piano, tambourine rather than clapping, high or low bass parts, as well as a handful of other creative choices. Lyrics: It’s time to Make one Take one Valentine At the Long Beach Gallery Got Candy Heart cards asking, “Please Be Mine!” You hold my heart, and you hold the key V-A-L-E-N-T-I-N-E I’ll make one for you and you make one for me! Writing “Let’s dance!”, “Take a Chance!”, Come on over Catch a Glance! Grab a line, Make a sign, You are My Sunshine! It’s time to Make one Take one Valentine At the Long Beach Gallery Got Candy Heart cards asking, “Please Be Mine!” You hold my heart, and you hold the key. You hold my heart, and you hold the key. (6:20) “My Flower in the Garden of Life” - Brian Corder (ART Center) Brian was inspired to write a love song for someone special in his life. This is the first song that he has ever written! He wrote multiple versions of the song, making sure that he was expressing himself in the most accurate way possible through both the lyrics and the music. He shared his ideas with his music therapist and they worked together until Brian had completed the song he had been envisioning. Lyrics: My flower in the garden of life You are the girl for me Like when the sunshine plays upon your hair It's like a spring day. Two people going through this world together hand in hand I sing this song to show how much I care I sing this song to show how much I care for you The main reasons I love you so much is the way you laugh The way you walk The way you look The way you listen The way you talk I love everything about you I can't believe I'm looking at such a lovely, pretty young lady I want to know you for the rest of my life You are the most beautiful woman in the world to me As the song says, you can be sunshine on my shoulder You are so beautiful to me I'll be so lucky for you to cling to my arm You are so beautiful to me Let's face it, we were meant to be (8:25) “Love Another” a poem by ART Center’s poetry class Roses are charming Kindness is love Which reminds me of doves Frienship means you love someone Love one another with passion Thanks for listening! What kind of brain games do you think will help you focus better and remember more? If you're like most people, you're probably searching for an app. Well, not Christian Fitzharris. Actor, musician, sommelier and author, Christian plays brain games with words. And to make the brain exercise even more effective, he adds juggling to the mix too. In fact, I was so blown away when I saw a video of Christian playing an authentic brain game, I could help but record a response! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yx3goqUJYQ For the original video that started it all, check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGEuP-ls5hA Then click play on the interview above and discover: How Christian first encountered memory techniques and mnemonics. The differences between different kinds of acting. The role of memory techniques in becoming a sommelier. The role of using mnemonics while imbibing alcohol in a professional role. How to avoid the "Oliver Cromwell Effect" when learning to use mnemonics. This final point will be especially important for those who want to become a living mnemonics dictionary. The alternative? Getting endlessly lost in the constant hunt for mnemonic examples and be trapped in learned helplessness forever. The ultimate cure? Play Brain Games as Christian suggests. In case you want to follow along with his rap, here are the wonderful lyrics he created and the music video... “Brain Games”  BY SCHOLAR & Anthony Metivier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-KoZraMEkg   “I Define Establish Exercise and Practice Externalize Spatial maps As I attack the path of, “mature learner”. “Bottle Burner” But I yearn to max memory reserve In earnest/ I’m a furnace. “Adam the Carpenter” (Sello Autor, 2007). “Dedication” (Universal Music Spain/Magna Records, 2010) y “Ritual”.

This classic date shows alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson's deep bop roots. Lou surrounded himself with the cream of New York's young stars in this December 1957 date for Blue Note. Just four tunes and almost all first takes. Lou picked Donald Byrd on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Sonny Clark on piano, Jamil Nasser(aka George Joyner) on bass and the always swinging Arthur Taylor on drums. Two bop standards: Parker's "Dewey Square" and Gillespie's "Groovin' High" plus a blues by Lou called "Strollin' In" and the up-tempo variant on Porter's "What Is This Thing Called Love" called "Sputnik". Lou at his boppin' best!
